This book is the first one in trying to describe the living boas. The author tells in a bright way the differences between the species. Also there is a clear way of telling general things like names of scales, scalecounting, describing the habitat and so forth. I've read the book with lots of pleasure and I 've used it several times to look after some deatils about BOAS.

Book Description

Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code has become the best-selling hardcover adult novel of all time, spouting a tenuous postmodern worldview akin to the age-old heresy of "Gnosticism." Though Gnosticism has been refuted repeatedly throughout the history of Christianity, and many of Brown's sources have been proven frauds, people are still reading Brown's books to become "enlightened."

The Gospel According to The Da Vinci Code not only refutes the philosophies behind this blockbuster book. It also looks at Brown's other writings to form a clearer picture of the worldview that guides his writings, why this worldview is so popular and what the church must do in response.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Thank You.......2006-05-20

I read the book "The Da Vinci Code" and found it to be extremely disturbing. In fact I was furious after completing it. I kept saying "Where lies the truth in this book"? Did someone jump of the train too soon? Then fortunately for me, a friend informed me that your book was being written. For that I say thank you. You do an excellent job of dispelling a number of innaccuracies while empowering the readers to validate the "facts". Though the Da Vinci Code is a work of FICTION, it is written in a fashion in which it may lead to the clouding of the senses! I half expected your book to be a "preachy" rhetoric but it was by far anything but. So my thanks goes out to you for putting a fresh perspective out there for readers to enjoy and to provoke thought so that they too will seek the TRUTH.

Sincerely,

Wm. Quinones

3 out of 5 stars Dealing with the big picture.......2006-05-15

Most of the responses to The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown deal strictly with facts (or the lack thereof). But what about the big picture? What does the novel communicate and how has it impacted our culture? As Christians, how ought we to respond? The Gospel According to the Da Vinci Code by Kenneth Boa and John Alan Turner seeks to answer these questions.

While the novel is actually fiction, our culture is such that many people treat it as non-fiction. "What Dan Brown says he believes is fundamentally incompatible with historic, orthodox Christianity. However, in a pluralistic society such as ours, millions of people seem to think you can pick and choose your beliefs like toppings on your pizza." (2)

Through their introduction and 12 chapters, Boa and Turner analyze the problems The Da Vinci Code presents in our current culture and how Christians should respond. "So what is the gospel according to Dan Brown? Simply put, `Everything you've ever heard about Jesus is wrong.'" (23) They discuss postmodernism, truth, and history, while pointing out Brown's problems and errors.

The authors ask, "What Would Jesus Do With Dan Brown?" (90) They essentially boil down the proper Christian response to "We've got to stop being foolish. We've got to stop being tacky. And we've got to stop being mean." (118) Though they deal a few of the errors in Brown's novel, they point to Darrell Bock's Breaking the Da Vinci Code for a more thorough critique.

There are a number of great points throughout the book, such as, "Saying that Dan Brown's book is about Christianity is like saying Finding Nemo is about marine biology. We have just as much evidence to suggest Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene as we have that clown fish talk." (25) The authors also get points for using Jack Bauer as an illustration (102-103).

Unfortunately, these good points are counterbalanced by poor ones. In at least one case they esteem a cheesy slogan as good methodology: "people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care." (106) The book doesn't appear to have a logical structure and often switches focus without reason. The authors make some brief points about Gnosticism and "the sacred feminine," but no thorough analysis of those topics is offered.

The Gospel According to the Da Vinci Code has periodic good points to offer, particularly in regards to the status of our culture. In that sense, it succeeds in dealing with the big picture. However, readers would be better off reading a book responding to the historical claims and pagan worldview of The Da Vinci Code.

5 out of 5 stars You NEED this book.......2006-04-15

I wondered what the hubbabaloo about the Da Vinci Code, so when I received the ARC to review this book, I was eager to start it. I was a little confused with Code book, because I liked the story, but found some of the narrative a little boggling, but this book, the Gospel according to, was amazing complex and simple at the same time. These authors take the reader piece by piece through the Dan Brown book and shows who, what, where, when and whys the book is a failure on so many levels. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoyed the Code or didn't like hte code...either way you'll be enlighted!!

    Book Description

The major philosophical, scientific, sociological, and historical reasons for believing in God are presented clearly and concisely. Why do so many people assume that there is a God who exists and seeks a relationship with them? Remarkably, though millions upon millions do believe in God, they cannot give a single reason why. No wonder those who don't believe God exists remain unconvinced-there's no one to argue God's side. Now there is a resource that tackles the most profound arguments from philosophy, science, sociology, psychology, and history . . . and presents twenty clear, concise, and compelling evidences that make faith in God-and specifically Jesus Christ-reasonable. AUTHOR BIOS: Kenneth Boa is the president of Reflections Ministries, an organization that seeks to provide safe places for people to consider the claims of Christ. His books have now sold more than four million copies. Recent publications by Boa include Faith Has its Reasons, Conformed to His Image, and An Unchanging Faith in a Changing World. He is the consulting editor of the Zondervan NASB Study Bible and the editor-in-chief of The Life Promises Bible. Boa holds a B.S. from Case Institute of Technology, a Th.M. From Dallas Theological Seminary, a Ph.D. from New York University, and a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford in England.

Robert M. Bowman Jr., is the president of the Institute for the Development of Evangelical Apologetics (IDEA). Previously he served as a researcher and editor for the Christian Research Institute, the Atlanta Christian Apologetics Project, and Watchman Fellowship. For five years he taught apologetics, theology, and biblical studies at Luther Rice Seminary. He has authored six books, including Why You Should Believe in the Trinity, and coauthored two other books with Kenneth D. Boa, including the Gold Medallion winner, An Unchanging Faith in a Changing World.

1 out of 5 stars Your typical christian un-scientific fable.........2006-11-27

This book is obviously not in any way connected with science and real evidence. The author even lies straight out about different matters regarding science. One has to wonder how some people can accept whatever is offered them so long as it is in agreement with what they already thought. So then why even NEED evidence if you're that dumbfounded and biased from the start..? I'll never know.
The day there are evidence for gods we'll read the scientific reports in the news and see it on TV. Untill then all we can do is being amazed over how adults can still belive in fairy tales. Do you belive in Poseidon? No. You're an atheist regarding Zeus. Me too, and I just go one god further. Snap out of it already!

5 out of 5 stars Grips your interest and provides ammunition for the beleaguered Christian.......2006-04-04

Just as its title says, 20 Compelling Evidences takes a deep look at how we can know for sure that God exists. The Foreword is an interesting discussion about our relevant doubts and how to find answers for them. Then the evidences begin. Commencing with reality, knowledge, and existence, the authors reach outward to the Universe, life's origins, and a fallen world, and then take a hard look at the Bible, its reliability, prophecies, and wisdom and our Lord's own life and those who have lived for Him. It is written with humor and fact, embellished with quotes ranging from Scripture to Lily Tomlin, firmly seated in the Bible, a wide range of data, and intense research. Closing materials include useful indices and a Reader's Guide which will help with focusing the information and in group discussions.

Graduate of several prestigious schools including Dallas Theological Seminary and Oxford University, head of Reflection Ministries, and prolific author, Kenneth Boa brings wide experience and knowledge to this book. Professor of Christian Apologetics and Christian researcher, Robert Bowman provides a strong base of facts. 20 Compelling Evidences is the most recent book in an honorable genre with a long lineage, going all the way back to our Christian forebears and the New Testament era. It still behooves Christians to know what they believe, why they believe it, and how to voice these beliefs to honest questioners and as well as scoffers. This book both grips the interest and provides ammunition for the beleaguered Christian. - Donna Eggett, Christian Book Previews.com

1 out of 5 stars Probably the worst book I have ever read.......2005-09-29

For starters, this book seems fairly substantial...until you open it. I laughed out loud when I saw that the only reason it is 276 pages is because it is triple spaced throughout with big gaps between paragraphs. If it was printed like most any book you see, it wouldn't be 100 pages long.

The arguments are among the weakest I've ever seen.

For example, chapter 4 provides a chronology of scientific thought from Einstein to the 1970's on the question of whether the universe is expanding or not. The authors point out that many scientists, including Einstein, resisted the idea of the universe having a beginning because a begining implies the existence of a beginner. Obviously this is silly (and patently false) since scientists don't ask the question, "Does this imply a god?" when formulating hypotheses and conducting experiments. They consider only facts that can be tested and proven.

Ultimately of course, everyone accepted the idea of an expanding universe as a scientific fact and the authers cite that as evidence God exists. (Which is ironic since fundamentalist christians were among the last to accept the idea of the big bang and the most fundamentalist still do not accept it.) Perhaps that is the case yet there is no evidence of a creator in that line of thinking. Essentially, the authors are assuming that where no explanation exists, there can only be one answer: God and not just any God but their God.

It is interesting to me that there are so few books on this topic. After reading the pathetic arguments contained in this one I think I understand why.

4 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone interested in religion.......2005-09-09

Really good book! I would recommend this book to anybody. While their chapter on prophecy hints their dispensational slant (referring to the significance of Israel occupying Palestine and the dates 1948 & 1967), they don't spend a lot of time on the subject. The book makes a strong case for the existence of God that a non-Christian could read and understand. I enjoyed their lists of books at the end of each chapter for people who want to read further on the subjects discussed.

4 out of 5 stars Compelling evidences leave one hungry for more.......2003-01-24

This book merely whets one's appetite. The arguments presented are truly compelling evidences for God's existence as the title suggests, but they lack the detailed substance that the topic requires. But readers are forced to dig elsewhere to resolve missing details. This entire book is like a preface to the real arguments. It's best feature are it's quotes, bibliographies and endnotes. These features lead the reader on to more meaty details. This book does a valuable service in introducing (scientific and theological) laymen to the true arguments and debates that surround the evidences presented here. The writing is geared to people who are just getting acquainted with the arguments. Folks with some study behind them will be disappointed. Look through the notes and bibliography and if you've read 50% of what's there, you can pass the book along to an uninitiated friend. However, another valuable service of the book is that it provides easy to remember analogies that readers can carry with them into discussions on God's existence. If you've ever been in a discussion and couldn't quite remember the facts of your case, their handy analogies will prove a big help. I believe it's still worth having as an introduction and for it's references. Their writing style is easy and fluid as well.
