Customer Reviews:
A wonderful resource.......2007-06-20
I have an older edition of this book, just found this 2001 edition (new) at a book sale at Barnes & Noble for only $20.00! As a Docent at a local wildlife facility, this is an excellent resource book, as well as good reading material. Super illustrations, with easy-to-understand text makes this a "must-have" for anyone interested in the Mammal world.
An excellent survey of the latest developments in mammal science.......2006-12-14
Both high school and public library reference holdings strong in animal science will find the second updated edition of the three-volume set The Encyclopedia of Mammals to be an excellent survey of the latest developments in mammal science. A team of editors have produced volumes which lend to both serious study and leisure browsing with a blend of color photos and drawings and articles newly revised to reflect the latest research and trends. From maps demonstrating species distribution patterns to articles that survey conservation issues and mammal natural history, the set seeks to clarify scientific terms and perspectives and will prove a delightful resource for any student of natural history.

Fantastic Book - Hard To Find Under $100.......2005-03-21
"The Encyclopedia Of Mammals" is a wonderful book. BN offered a one-volume edition with over 930 pages until sometime in 2003 for under $50. The book covers all the mammals in the world in full color with comprehensive text and weighs about 12 lbs. The current offering is a 3-volume edition by Facts On File Natural Science Library at about $300.

Customer Reviews:
Perfect for my animal-loving son!.......2002-07-31
Bought this for my son's 6th birthday after reading all the reviews. I am definitely impressed. It has beautiful pictures - to be expected from National Geographic. It also provides a map highlighting the habitat for each animal and a pronunciation key as well. The text is interesting but not too technical for younger readers and each animal gets more than just a paragraph or two. It will grow well with him. I highly recommend it.
Excellent Book for your Kids.......2001-07-22
My son loves animals and received this book for Christmas two years ago. He continues to read this book every day. He is now six and this book have been his passion. He reads it to find out where each mammal lives and what he or she eats. What I found very good with this book was the fact that this was the book that helped him to start to read as well as got him interested in geography - "Dad, I didn't know that lemurs lived in Madagascar!" - What's a lemur and where is Madagascar?
I have bought a number of other mammal's books for him, but he always comes back to this book, even with the scotch-taped pages and duct taped cover. I recommend this book to anyone.
Wonderful pictures!.......2000-03-04
I bought this book for my 4 year old grandson, who just loves animals. He shows the pictures to his 2 year old brother, and teaches him the names of the animals. They both love this book, and have spent many hours looking at it.
great book with wonderful pictures.......1999-11-05
the pictures in the book were wonderful and the animals seemed to pop out right onto your lap. it has every imaginable animal on the planet with a detailed description to go with it
Instructive reference book on mammals for 3rd grade and up........1998-10-31
This book is an excellent encyclopedic reference on mammals for children and adults alike. It has the high quality photographs that one would expect of National Geographic. The information on each mammal is detailed enough to hold interest, yet no so long as to become tedious.
Best of all, it is readable by many precocious 3rd graders! Adults, however, should not be turned away. This is a great book for animal lovers of all ages.

Customer Reviews:
No good deer books.......2007-02-09
There are nice pictures and nice tidbits of info about deer but generally there are no good, unbiased deer books that exist. Most books are loaded with jargon about hunting and "management" practices. Sadly, I have yet to find a good deer book with unbiased educated information about deer. I wish the book had more pictures for each type of deer and more specific info about the animals. Many deer books just talk about deer and people, something I don`t care about. If I wanted to read a hunting magazine I`d buy one for my bathroom reading.
Informative book.......2006-11-19
Good book about deer around the U.S., along with moose and reindeer. Includes info about deer habitat and breeding, etc. Better price buying through Amazon.com than Barnes and Noble.
A M A Z I N G.......2005-04-22
THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK EVER! ITS GOT REALLY GREAT PICRURES AND NICE LITTLE TID BITS OF INFO ON TONS OF DEERS! REALLY GREAT FOR ARTS AND CRAFT INSPERATIONS! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.

The Veterinarian's Encyclopedia of Animal Behavior.......2006-08-24
What a masterpiece!
I am not sure that "encyclopedia" is a good description for this book, as it is more like an dictionary of terms relating to animal behavior. Having said that, it is truly a MUST HAVE for anyone who has a real interest in animal behavior!

Customer Reviews:
Good overall book but be warned.......2005-06-02
This was purchased for a young elementary school girl who loves horses. The description did not say that there are photos/drawings of horses reproducing. This made things a bit difficult for her parents who were forced into a discussion they hadn't planned on. I did not know about this from the description.
The rest of the book had some great photos and information about horses.
Not that great.......2005-01-12
The first part of the book contains a list of horse and pony breeds which are described quite comprehensively. The other parts I found a little incomplete and sketchy. The horse care basics in this book are messy, some horse sport descriptions are poor. The photos aren't of highest quality and the index contains some inaccuracies.
This book will be helpful for a beginner.
Awesome book.......2003-04-10
I had a blast reading this book, the pictures go along with everything it talks about, and everything is clearly seen in pictures. Very educational and fun book, also one to refer back to later.
Every horse lover's dream!.......2000-03-27
I borrowed this book from a friend and was so pleased with it-it has hundreds of full-color photos and such crystal-clear information-that I went out and bought my own copy. This book includes rare chapters on the Western and harnessed disciplines (among a few well-written others)and covers the basic breeds and has a detailed horse care section. The price is well worth it.
Brilliantly Written!.......1999-08-31
The book was great! Even a beginner could understand this information. Horse Owners and Lover: Buy this one!
