Customer Reviews:
Great overview of what can be done for your horse........2007-06-08
This book serves as a wonderful reference for the health of my equines. It gives very descriptive things that can be done. Recently when my warmblood foundered, I found the suggestions very helpful and empowering. I got to implement some of them right away and therefore made my girl more comfortable in this hard situation. I highly recommend this book as it takes the mystery out of many different approaches of equine care and gives one the opportunity to make informed, well thought out choices.
Happy for the paperback.......2007-01-21
I own the hardback edition of this book and am very pleased the paperback edition has arrived. Sent it to a good friend looking for the pressure points of the horse, which Mary does a great job of showing in the sketches provided. This is the best alternative medicine book I have found for the horse.
Great.......2007-01-09
I bought this book for my girlfriend and she said that if she didn't have it she never would have passed some of her college classes last quarter.
Thank God for this book!!.......2003-02-15
As I am coming into more holistic approaches to life, I have found this book to be a Bible!! As it covers so many topics, giving guidance to directions for all of us, I can easily understand the value of this book!! Amust for all readers who want to keep their Equine healthy and sound --Naturally!!
Complete Holistic Care.... Brennan/Eckroate: a review.......2001-09-23
This comprehensive volume addresses dozens of concerns for the horse owner, covering traditional and alternative health practices. The book is very complete in covering the health care options in two sections. The first part dealing with health care is an overview of traditional and holistic options. The final section of the volume is a comprehensive listing (with photos) of typical horse ailments with specific recommendations for each one. The entire book is written in a style easily understandable by the novice, but not too simplistic for the experienced horse owner. Photos and very complete appendices round out the coverage for this topic. Additionally, Brennan includes a comprehensive horse management section which is equally impressive in its scope, covering topics such as diet, grooming, tack and trailering. This book is truly a "must have" for the concerned horse owner.

It was very helpful and helped in answering the usual questions that you might be too embarrassed to ask =D It also was good because it had many pictures that aided as well.
The Whole Horse Catalog: The Complete Guide to Buying, Stabling and Stable Management, Equine Health, Tack, Rider Apparel, Eques.......2007-03-09
Great book
No color pictures.......2006-12-08
I just received this book. I find it quite outdated. The drawings and illustrations are poorly done. There are only a few black and white pictures. Just beware that this is a 1998 book and I am sure you can find a more updated horse book than this one.
Absolute must for new horse-lovers!.......2006-10-05
If you're considering doing ANYTHING with a horse in it, get this book. It's by far the most complete book on basic horse health, stabling, activities, breeds, etc. (And I do mean "basic".) Would have been five-stars for a glossary.
Horsey Lovers.......2006-07-22
My daughter wants us to buy her a horse. We didn't have a clue what to look for and this horse catalog gave us a thorough preview. We didn't fathom the expenses or the responsibilities of caring for a horse. An encyclopedic eyeopener that prepared us for reality.
Customer Reviews:
Great beginners book.......2007-10-10
This book is a great beginners book. It goes into detail about the structure of a hoof, both wild and domestic, internal and external. The detailed instructions for trimming are very helpful and easy to follow. I recomend it highly.
finally ...the truth............2007-08-18
After over 35 years of keeping horses and caring for their feet...I have discovered I was wrong...and Jamie Jackson's methods are right...this book began the process of my rethinking hoof care...at 55..if I can change my thinking and start rehabilating my horses feet...you can too...start by reading this book.
Groundbreaking, but not the best.......2007-05-24
I'm grateful to Mr Jackson for his pioneering observations of the hoof in nature and for writing them up. But I didn't find the book itself particularly useful. It has very little step-by-step, practical text or pictures; and throughout there is a tendency towards pomposity that gets very off-putting.
I bought this and Pete Ramey's book at the same time, reading Jackson's first, as Ramey advises in his book. Never re-read Jackson, but Ramey's is dog-eared from studying again and again. I also appreciate Ramey's voice--humble, sincere, doesn't have to be "right;" eager to learn from any source and to incorporate new research and better technique the minute they occur.
Best Barefoot Book.......2007-05-14
Great book! Jaime Jackson is easy to follow and understand. Detailed info. for the horse owner.
Very Good Reference.......2006-12-18
Gives plenty of detail and well illustrated with before and after corrective shoeing photos and diagrams. Highly recommend.

Practical Guide.......2007-10-11
A good reference my wife and I have already found useful in dealing with our outside farm animals.
Must have!.......2007-01-05
This book is a must have for anyone who wants to have farm animals and doesn't know anything about animals. It is in depth and informative with instructions on how to enclose, feed and care for your farm animals. It is truthful about when you need a vet and when you don't, if you want to save money, time and energy read this book before you buy your land, animals and equipment!
Veterinary Guide for Animal Owners.......2005-09-07
The book contained all the info I was looking for
Excellent Reference.......2001-06-17
At our house, you never know what the kids will bring home next or the parents for that matter. This book has been a quick reference on any new species introduced to our household as far as domesticated animals---we do have a gecko and unfortuately there is no info on exotics in this book. It has become a well worn book as we thumbed through finding answers to problems and also on ways to prevent future problems. We have 3 cats, 2 dogs, a bunch of chickens(cochins and silkies), 2 pigs, a pygmy goat, a shetland sheep and an African Fat tailed Gecko so we needed a book that would cover a lot and this has answered many questions. It has more than paid for itself----if it saves just one vet visit!
THE ANSWERS CAN ALL BE FOUND IN HERE.......2000-08-19
This book more than paid for itself in the first 15 minutes of reading. As the owner of 2 cows, 3 cats, 7 dogs, & 8 goats, I have been using this book as my animal bible. It's written in terms that everyone can understand and the directions are clear and precise. It's saved me many calls and visits to my vet. This is a MUST HAVE book for every pet or animal owner.
Customer Reviews:
Best Arabian book I've found.......2007-06-17
If I bought only one book about Arabians, this would be it. What I like best about this book are the pictures of foundation sires of the past and influential stallions of more recent years. The reader does have to keep in mind that the book was published 20 years ago, so a lot of modern stallions won't be included. This is a great book that covers every subject in detail and has some really good conformation drawings that show you what is and is not desirable.
A Must Have!.......2007-01-16
As an Arabian horse breeder, I have had this book for years and always recommend it to any new owners of an Arabian horse. There is a lot of overall general horse information as well as highlights on historical breeding programs, Arabian conformation, showing basics, building/fencing etc. This is a real "How to..." book.
Excellent book for beginners.......2003-12-06
I am a first time Arab owner and have found this book to be invaluable. Geared toward the Arab breed, Sharon included many topics in her book that can be used for any breed. From confirmation and breeding to the best halter to show off your horses head and how to train your horse how to hold that "Arab pose". There is so much to learn from this book for everyone from the backyard owner to the professional trainer/show person.
The Arabian: A Guide for Owners.......1999-12-18
This book is absolutely the best book I have ever read about the Arabian Horse.I am a small Bask line breeder and this is my reference book, I have two copies, one I use on a daily basis, and one I purchased to keep because it is signed by Sharon Byford and I will treasure it always.
Excellent book for the Arabian horse owner........1997-12-22
This is an excellent book for the Arabian horse owner; both the novice horse owner, for which this is a MUST and the experienced horse owner, form whom this provides excellent back to basics. The author's knowledge of the Arabian horse and her obvious pleasure at living amongst them generates enthusiasam for the reader and encourages capable, caring horsemanship. Illustrations and photos are nicely balanced with text, rich in history of the Arabian horse, foundation bloodlines, proper conformation, tips on grooming, feed, trailering, showing, behaviour, selecting veterinarians, and much, much more.
Book Description
A respected equestrian author teaches novices how to breed horses.
Book Description
A commonsense guide to successfully managing personal, household, and equine-related finances.
Book Description
Readers can use this book as a guide to learn whether their horses are being shod properly or use it to learn to shoe their own horses. The book stresses good horse handling techniques and proper trimming. Correct trimming of the feet is the basis of good shoeing, and neither can be accomplished if the horseshoer cannot get the horse to stand still long enough to work on him-thus the importance of handling. To get really proficient at horseshoeing, it takes a lot of practice trimming and shoeing a lot of different horses. This book covers all the basics in plain, simple language, lavishly illustrated, and diagrammed.
Customer Reviews:
Informative.......2007-06-29
I had some knowledge on how to trim my horses feet. The book gave me more detail and insights I wasn't aware of. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Great for DIY trimming.......2007-05-13
The best book I've seen on the subject. It is informative, easy to understand (for the layman) and without pretensions.
Expert advice from an expert practioner.
WELL-SHOD IS WELL WORTH IT.......2007-04-28
Recently I watched as a local farrier plied his trade with four horses belonging to a friend. Originally I had gone intending to help steady the horses but, as I watched, I became more and more intrigued with the processes that were unfolding before my eyes. Suddenly I found myself wishing that I had paid better attention.
The following day I began my search for a book that would review for me the things that I had witnessed the previous day. My first reaction was discouragement as I, at first, found very little available and then found some excellent books but priced so high that I would have had to hock the farm to buy them. Even my local library fell short.
At last I ran onto this book. WELL-SHOD provides everything I was looking for. There are no lengthy and complicated explorations of unnecessary horse anatomy or boring historical treatises on the evolution of the horseshoe or the process of fitting sets of shoes to horses. Instead you will find excellent explanations of the process including removing old, worn shoes, preparing and trimming hooves and finishing up. The book also provides an excellent look at the necessary tools and how to use them, along with photographic and graphic illustrations that clarify the process.
Don't get me wrong. If I were interested in becoming a veterinarian or in working in or teaching comprehensive levels of hot and cold farrier work I would likely invest in the text-like books that I encountered and shell out the exorbitant dollars required for their purchase. But, having a goal to become proficient in taking care of a horse's hooves--from getting rid of old shoes and applying new ones--I think I'll stick with this one and be happy that I did.
THE HORSEMAN
A MUST-HAVE for horse owners and/or farriers........2006-04-10
This was an outstanding book! Mr. Baskins relies on his MANY years of experience to guide you on properly caring for your horse's hooves and how to ensure that your farrier is properly shodding your horse. I was completely ignorant of what was required to properly shod a horse....that is, until I picked up this wonderful book. I would recommend it as a foundation book for any good horse "person's" library. Even an experienced farrier could pick up vital techniques to assist him/her in shodding the most difficult horse, WITHOUT threatening, bullying or harming this beautiful creature!
Great book for the novice horse owner........2004-10-23
I wanted to know more about how my horses feet are trimmed, and what I could do to keep them maintained and healthy inbetween farrier visits. I was VERY impressed with the quality of pictures, and the ease of explanations for the proceedures being talked about. I have since gone back and used it as a reference tool. It's a book you will use more than once!!

Great Book!!.......2006-12-16
This is a great well written book. I love the chapter on massage with the pictures and great explanations on How-To. The intoductions to every chapter are great as are all the contents in the chapter. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to go "The Natural Way"!!
Chapters link common horse conditions to effective natural healing choices .......2006-06-23
Plenty of books cover horse health - but how many focus on natural treatments and options for preventing illness? Any who want to go the herbal route for the horse will welcome a book which covers not just herbs but massage, aromatherapy, vibrational healing and more. Chapters link common horse conditions to effective natural healing choices and expand greatly on the options a horse owner can choose for optimum horse health.

Overpriced........2006-03-16
For the price, I would have expected to get a CD with form templates. The paper forms alone are good guidelines, but really not as helpful as I would have expected.
Legal Forms, Contracts & Advice for Horse Owners.......2005-11-04
The cover says the book comes with a CD that can be used with Microsoft Word. When I received my copy there was a holder for a CD on the inside of the cover but no CD in it. Since I bought the book in order to draft contracts, and I do not like to type, it is useless. I could not even find a telephone number to call to request the CD.
Legal Forms, Contracts, and Advice for Horse Owners.......2005-03-28
I purchased the book with the intent of being able to easily draft contracts for various types of horse owner activities. I was not pleased with the example contracts. The book is very poorly done.
For example, the partnership agreement was missing words and apparently sentences, and was missing major partnership points. Essentially,I determined that the writer never read the agreement once in print or ever drafted a useable business partnership agreement.
A beginning law student not knowing anything about the horse business could do a better job drafting the example agreements than the person who attempted to write this book.
So where's the software?.......2004-05-12
I bought this book, which has been very helpful for the start of my new enterprise... but.. the front cover says Software Version... am i missing something??? There was no software with the book. Am I to order it or something?? Other than that., very useful book..
VERY Disappointing!.......2004-03-19
I bought this book because I needed to have access to different types of contracts associated with my horse business. In the ads it states that the program works with Win 95 all the way up to Win XP. NOT SO! It ONLY works with Win 95 and Win version 3.1. To make matters even worse, the technical support number listed in the back of the book for problems is NONEXISTANT! Some of the tear out blank contracts are OK, if you have the time to tear them out perfectly then scan them into to your computer. In short, this product does you no good if you have a good computer. Find another source for your equine contracts!
