Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

got for my son who is 14.......2007-07-12
My son thought this was a good book, but a little hard to follow, because it uses older terms. Otherwise, he said it was a great book. He enjoyed the Light of Eidon more.
Good, a little boring.......2007-05-01
I don't know about you, but I have to read a book with lots of excitment to keep me reading. After reading the first three chapters, this book lay forgotten on my desk, getting covered with dust and cobwebs. My mom found it (I am an eleven year old girl who is homeschooled) and told me I had to read it. I picked up the boring book and stuck my whole face into the book. I read and read and read. I almost fell asleep a few times. Then, the light turned on for me. About half way through the book the excitment happened. I could put the book down until it was over.
So, I think this book is worth four stars and four stars only. If it doesn't have a booming introduction, I'm not reading it. (or at least not until my mom says)
Some good books, however are the following. I had to read them for school. They are historical fiction.
Bonze Bow
Hittite Warrior
Golden Goblet
...just a few of some really good books. The Bronze Bow is the best book I've read in my life.
Over all, I think that The Cat of Bubastes has its share of boring parts in it. I would much rather read Harry Potter books than this, let's put it that way. But, it has its share of excitment in it too. I would read it again if I had to.
Great read!.......2007-03-19
Great addition to our study of Egypt. And it's a Henty of course!
Old-Fashioned, Rip-Roarin' Fun!.......2005-10-30
This was the first Henty book that I ever read, and when I finished it I was hooked. Henty will take you to the land of ancient Egypt, and you will be able to live his story because of the depth and detail of his writing. Excellent characters and adventurous plot keep you into this book. If you enjoy historical fiction without objectionable content, give G. A. Henty a try!
10 YEAR OLD BOY.......2005-10-15
This book was exciting from the very beginning until the very end. I thought it was one of the best books I've ever read. It is about a Rebu Prince who lost his kingdom, his father, his family, and his home to the Egyptians in battle and was taken captive to Egypt. There, he was made a slave with his friend, Jethro. But he was not sad there for he was chosen by the high priest of the temple of the god, Osiris. Amuba, the Prince, made a friend at the priest's house, called Chebron. The main part was when they were outside trying to shoot a hawk who was killing all the water fowl. They both fired their bow and arrows. Since the prince had been in a battle, he hit the hawk but Chebron, who had never been in a battle before, missed and killed the sacred cat. In Egypt, if you kill a cat, you will be killed. From that point on in the story, things get exciting. People die, battles happen, the Prince and his comrades flee. In the end, Chebron is save because of the heroics of his friends. I rate this book a 5 star. If you want any kind of book just read this one!!

Unsual subject treated very well.......2003-03-15
From the wild cats domesticated in Egypt around 2,000 BC to the worship of the cat goddess Baster, this readable but authoritive book has many color as well as black and white illustrations.
Published by the British Museum Press in London for the museum there, it is an absorbing read that would interest any cat lover who wanted to get a little beyond the "pretty pictures of cute cats & kittens with scant text" as depicted in so many books. I recommend it to add to your feline library, or just to your library!
Great Book for Cat Lovers and Eyptophiles.......1999-03-20
This is a wonderful look into the evolution of the relationship between the Ancient Egyptians and the cat. Starting from the Wildcats of the swamps to the "domestic" cat and to the gods who took the cat as their theogeny, Malek probes the relationship between animal, the Ancient Egyptians, and their Gods.
A great book overall with well-documented and researched material.
For those who truly love, and want to understand, cats!.......1999-02-24
Cats are life, everything else is details! This book allows you to understand your cat(i.e. life companion) This book is for the cat lover or the person who wants to "try" to understand the housecat today(if that is possible).
Book Description
Clearly written text offers an answer to the question of why ancient Egyptians mummified thousands and thousands of cats. An easy-to-understand introduction to ancient Egyptian history.
Customer Reviews:
Glad I Bought It!.......2005-09-11
What an amazing find! We came across this book while looking for Ancient Egypt textbooks and we love it. The author has done an outstanding job and is obviously well researched. The fascination the Egyptians had with cats is very interesting and this book draws you straight into it. Highly recommended and the illustrations are the perfect accompaniment. Just lovely!
Short and Sweet.......2004-02-02
Short and Sweet are the only words that can describe this book. With beautiful color illustrations on every page, you can really begin to understand what these people and their surroundings looked like and what they believed in. Even though I rated this book 5 stars, because of the wonderful artwork and descriptive words, this book was very short. I'm in the 7th Grade, and it only took me 10 minutes to finish, so I recommend just reading it in your library or bookstore rather than buying it outright. All in all, 'Cat Mummies' was very informative, though it could have been just a bit longer.
great great great.......2001-03-30
this 56 page book is filled with lots of info. it is great for all ages. it is filled with great illustrated pictures by Laszlo Kubinyi. it's one of the best books i'v ever bought.
Cat Mummies is a very good book, it provides good info........1998-11-30
This is a good book because it provides a different side to mummies. It has beautiful color drawings of some mummies. It can be helpful when doing a report ,or making a model of one as I did. This book also provides other sources to look at. If you are interested look in your local library or bookstore. (Great for young readers and Egypt book worms)

"This endearing tale is sure to find favor wherever cat stories are in demand. Worshipped as a god with servants to coddle him, a temple cat in ancient Egypt yearns for the freedom to live as a normal feline . . ." -School Library Journal
Customer Reviews:
A story about the best life for gods, cats and humans.......2005-01-31
A beautiful and enlightening book. This is a simple little story of a runaway cat, set in ancient Egypt, but its subject is really nothing less than the purpose of life, equally applicable to cat or human. Is it better to be pampered, eternally exalted, but apart, or to live in the world and be free to eat fish heads in the sand? The temple cat finds his answer.
Less, maybe, for those who want their children to seek everlasting happiness in an afterlife, then, but for those who want them to see eternity here and now in the mud huts of everyday existence, this is an excellent bedtime story.
For this Dad, Temple Cat is a favorite book. I mean a favorite for myself. My seven-year-old daughter likes it too: "It's nice that he found a nicer home. The illustrations are really beautiful."
A story that doesn't quite work.......2000-08-03
This book is nicely crafted, with a simple story about a beautiful cat. I like it, but for some reason it did not capture my 6 yo's imagination or attention, despite her extreme interest in Egypt, pyramids, mummies, hieroglyphics and even deserts. My daughter thought the temple cat was a golden cat, in Egypt, and a sad cat. So she got the basic premise, but just hasn't been keen to read this, unlike other books that have captured her completely.
The illustrations are fabulous in this book!.......2000-03-27
This is a wonderful book, and a great teaching tool. As a teacher, I am always looking for new ways to teach. This book was recommended by Crayola magazine on the subject of Ancient Egypt, so I checked it out at the library. I fell in love with the book because of the illustrations and original story line and will now buy this book. Most if not all of my students enjoy animals and they like that the main character is a cat who is worshipped and lives in her own temple cared for night and day by servants. It really was interesting to learn history through the eyes of an exalted feline. They enjoyed it immensely.

Book Description
Far from being pampered house pets, the cats of Cairo are street-smart survivors who roam freely throughout the city. However, their ancestors in ancient Egypt were revered as gods and were so beloved that they were portrayed in statues and jewelry. In subsequent centuries,
the tradition of adoring cats continued and today, as Lorraine Chittock’s captivating photographs display, the mystique of the cat lives on. Discover your cat’s Egyptian heritage in this delightful gift book, which pays homage to the special and timeless bond that Egyptians have with the cat in the ever-changing city of Cairo.
Rambling through mosques and markets, Lorraine Chittock, a cat-lover-cum-photographer, searched Cairo’s nooks and crannies for city-savvy felines, becoming a wildlife tracker in an urban environment. The resulting photographs are remarkable for their spontaneity and often
whimsical sensitivities to both feline and human body language. Each intimate and thoughtprovoking photograph is complemented by an apposite literary passage, tempting the reader to explore tidbits of folklore, religion, and poetry from Egypt and the Arab world, while giving
insights into an animal that has inspired fascinating tales for at least five thousand years.

In Praise of Cairo Cats.......2006-11-18
Following is a verbatim passage from a recent e-mail message I sent to Cairo Cats mastermind and photographer, Lorraine Chittock. She suggested that I post it on Amazon, which I am happy to do. I actually purchased the earlier edition of Cairo Cats from Amazon, which is quite similar to the new 2006 volume, but not as good, in my opinion. There are some new images in the new edition, the text font and text color are better, and I even think the coloration on the wonderful images is more robust and eye-popping in the new edition. Also, the new edition is printed in Cairo, which adds character and authenticity as far as I'm concerned. The reason I became interested in the Cairo Cats volume was to provide background, reality, and a worldwide viewpoint to a Breed Booth display for a large, well attended international cat show. Our breed, the Somali, claims the North African geographical area and the ancient Egyptian culture as part of its "Creation Mythology". Cairo Cats helps present the Somali legend to the public, and provides context and an enjoyable reference book for the breeders represented by our display.
>These artful, captivating, intriguing images from a distant, exotic
>land will hopefully provide depth and background to our exhibit
>for the 2006 CFA International Show. Your volume illustrates
>a culture with perhaps the world's premier claim to a long and
>sincere Cat Fancy tradition. Both ancient and modern
>manifestations of Egyptian Cat Fancy are beautifully presented.
>Thoughtful readers can meditate on poetic Egyptian quotations
>spanning four millenia. There is much to value and appreciate
>in your Cairo Cats volume, Lorraine. I feel very lucky to be
>able to offer it to a broad audience, some of whom will
>deeply appreciate its rich cross-cultural offering.
The Perfect Gift Book!!.......2006-08-05
An inspiring book, that captures the true essence of Cairo, one of the world's most incredible cities. The pictures range from amusing, to awe-inspiring to poignant. Cat lovers and anyone with an interest in Egypt will absolutely cherish this one-of-a-kind book.
An enduring book.......2006-08-03
Cairo Cats is highly professional but down-to-earth, with enchanting images, arresting quotations and an illuminating introduction. It helps us expand our understanding of the world and its creatures. Enough to make a non-cat person like me into a cat lover.

Poetry by cool cats such as Naomi Shihab Nye and Nizar Qabbani, inscriptions from The Prophecies of Neferti, cat fiqh from Aisha and Imam al-Shafii (is that not delightful?), Persian folk sayings, Turkish proverbs, cat wisdom from Afghanistan, cat notes from Egyptian Nobel Laureate novelist Naguib Mahfouz. Cat calligraphy! "Qitt" with an inky tail!
All arranged amid lush, delightful cat photos: Cat among the Pharoahs, cat goddesses and gods, cat on a Persian rug, cats making careful cat-ablutions, cats on Cairo streetcorners, cat in a coffeeshop, the cat and the copper tray.
What a GEM!
I app-purrrrrr-rove.
Perfect for any cat lover who wants something a little different.......2006-06-23
CAIRO CATS are street-smart, hold a fine lineage, and are not to be treated the same way as your typical Western cat: that's the message in the blend of history and pet insights of CAIRO CATS: EGYPT'S ENDURING LEGACY, which uses the backdrop of Cairo to explore the cats through verse and prose alike. Lovely photos display the cats against fine Egyptian scenes while descriptions draw readers in. Perfect for any cat lover who wants something a little different.

Book Description
This rare volume is a detailed visual record of art and artifacts associated with the worship of the cat and the goddess Bastet in ancient Egypt. The book begins with a brief history of the cult, tracing its development from earliest times to the height of its popularity under the Bubastite dynasty, noting that organized divinity only passed from the cat and the goddess in 392 AD when the Emperor Theodosius I forbade paganism. The remainder of the work, profusely illustrated with objects from the authors' collection, describes pieces depicting cat figures, cat heads, groups, inscriptions, mummy cases, scarabs, amulets and jewelry.

A Great Classic Returns.......2001-03-30
The reprint of L. and B. Langton's classic The Cat in Ancient Egypt is a welcome addition to the library of any professional or amateur Egyptologist, cat lover, or modern Pagan with a dedication to Bast. First published in 1940 (and now only available used at a spectacular price) this volume combines both the best of catalogue (no pun intended) studies and social and cultural analysis. It is never dry! While modern archeological techniques have added much to our general knowledge, the comprehensiveness and sheer love and dedication of this work represents the finest of the tradition of old fashioned diggers and collectors. The photographs in the 1940 edition are, unfortunately, grainy, but the number and variety of cats, cat goddesses, votive objects, and lions more than makes up for the lack. I anxiously await my own copy. (Review based on the 1940 edition)
