This is a book for people who want to know exactly how to groom Poodles. Very thorough and shows many styles
Poodle Clipping and Grooming.......2007-05-16
Another grooming book for my collection. A wonderful book (although not a current 2006/7), it displays great pictures, explores and explains different clipping styles available for poodles. A great book for the beginner to gain more knowledge or a more in depth book for the professional. Black & White print.
Poodle Clipping and Grooming extraordinaire.......2007-05-09
Poodle Clipping and Grooming: The International Reference Has pictures which show every imaginable clipping for you poodle. If it isn't in here it isn't a recognize clipping. It shows you which blade to use on what part of the body. Gives advice on the best equipment. In short everything you need to know to groom your own poodle and start saving all that money you pay the professional groomer.
A great book to own and keep as a reference if you own poodles.

Awesome book find!!!.......2007-01-17
This book is awesome. The step by step instructions and photos helped guide me through from clipping...bathing...brushing...getting the right equipments down to trims... it's a helpful tool for novices and pro groomers alike. Trust me, it's a wise investment and worth every dollar spent. So for those of you who have it in their hearts to bond and groom your pet and show poodle... this book is it!
the gold standard in poodle grooming.......2007-01-17
I chose this book because it has been known as the gold standard in poodle grooming books for many years. I am just beginning to groom my two standard poodles and this book is very helpful. It covers trimmers and other grooming equipment thoroughly and has a great chart that explains what type of cut each numbered blade provides, for five different brands of trimmers. It includes almost every type of cut you might consider giving your poodle and each cut has great photographs and/or black and white drawings that help you visiualize what you are doing. The book also has seperate sections for how to groom feet, topknot, tail, face, stomach and ears- I have refered to these chapters many times and they have very helpful instructions and tips. I would highly recommend this book, it will be the only one you need-its so complete. Many people are surprised to find that I am grooming my own dogs and they often comment that the dogs look like they went to a professional.

Answering life's deeper questions..........2005-06-09
The Imponderables book series by David Feldman is the pinnacle of interesting and useful bathroom reading! Since the beginning of the series, Feldman has been highlighting questions that we didn't even know we had (like exactly why is it that a mile is 5,280 feet? and where is Donald Duck's brother?) then he finds "the experts" on any given subject to answer the question. At the end of each question and answer, you are left with a little better insight into the world around you (and you can go out and impress your friends with an expanded catalog of obscure anecdotes).
These books are fantastic overall. They are one part almanac, one part encyclopedia and one part a book form of the show Mythbusters. Many of the questions Feldman seeks the answers to are sent to him by his many readers who want to know about these little-known facts (like why there are 18 holes in a golf course and why tennis balls are fuzzy). Okay, these may not be the most important questions in the world, but these are the things we take for granted in everyday life that we normally don't take the time to stop and think (why is that little finger on our hands called the pinky?).
Feldman has been answering these questions since the first Imponderables in 1986. He has a masters degree in popular culture from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and taught to first ever college course on Soap Operas. If you enjoy trivia, David Feldman is the man for you. He uncovers the hidden meanings and lost history of sports, food, words, science, politics, and everything in between, often in a humorous and insightful way.
So where did Oreos get their name?
What is the difference between Dead End signs and No Outlet signs?
Why does the letter K mean Strike Out in baseball?
You'll have to read the books to find out.
READ THIS REVIEW.......2005-05-15
This was a awesome book I read. I found it when we were cleaning the basement, and I read most of it on a trip. It is a book that answers many interesting questions as in "Why is Bettie Rubble not a charator in the Filnstones Vitimans?" I hope you pick this or another "Imponderables" book.
As a fiction reader, I still enjoyed the things this book........1999-11-22
This book teaches you lots of interesting stuff, and asks lots of interesting stuff. We never thought we would never get the answers. However, David Feldman got them for us. HOORAY! I could have gave it 5 stars, since it was a very interesting things that helped me help others with imponderables, and taught me stuff that was head-scratching.
1) What kind of a title is "When Did Wild Poodles Roam the Earth?" 2) I am a person who enjoys fiction and flowing prose, so when I read this, it didn't grab me. 3) Some of the answers were long, boring sometimes.
it's well worth the buy.

Book Description
Poodlena is a star. Every day she powders and pinks herself to perfection. And every day she parades through the park, keeping clean and perfect. One day, after a heavy rain, another dog knocks poor Poodlena right off the path and into a giant mud puddle. The mud is dirty and icky. . . and so much fun! Now Poodlena still primps and pinks herself close to perfect-but she always saves time for playing with friends, too!

Fun for all poodle lovers.......2005-07-21
I guess that the best way to describe this book is as a cross between Eloise and Dr. Seuss.
The illustrations are adorable and I wish that I could have a print to frame of Poodlena primping and "pinking" herself up.
This is a darling little book that I would recommend to all poodle lovers, young and old. [If you've never been owned by a poodle you wouldn't understand.]
Great!.......2005-02-01
This is one of the best children's books I've come across for this age range. The perfect gift for a little girl, especially if she loves PINK (all the pages are very pink).
Adorable New Children's Book.......2004-09-02
Ms. Poodlena Pompadour, a poofy, pink poodle, lives quite the life in a high-rise apartment on the very top floor, in a beautiful big city. Every day Poodlena has a crew of stylists come into her high-rise apartment to primp her up. They poof her, and pink her, and fluff her right up. Then, she is taken to the park at three quarters past four everyday, where, as opposed to playing, like the other dogs who visit the park daily, she parades by them on the walking trail, making sure to never get messy. However, by doing this, Poodlena never has the opportunity to have any fun, for you must get a bit dirty to have some fun. So, after a long rain, Poodlena gets all puffed up, and heads to the park, where she is promptly knocked into the mud by a dog chasing a ball. It is only then that Poodlena realizes that she would have much more fun if she spent less time poofing, and more time playing.
E.B. McHenry has created an enchanting new character in POODLENA. Told in a wonderful rhyming prose, and filled with wonderful illustrations, featuring various pink puffs and swirls, and pink little curls, POODLENA is sure to become a hit with children. A must-have on the bookshelf for any family, whether you have children or not.

Poodlena.......2004-07-09
Poodlena Pompadour, the dainty pink puddle, lives a rather glamorous life-style on the top floor of a high-rise. Her male owner fluffs her cotton candy-like head of hair, which is of course pink, as well as, powders and perfumes her each day before her afternoon play time at the park. Much too stunning to join in with the other dogs in their rough games, Poodlena simply remains spotless on the sidewalk. After a heavy rainfall an unforeseen twist occurs that alters Poodlena's prissy routine.
E. B. McHenry's charming story is definitely a girly-girl book. With the powder pink pages and countless beauty supplies many girls will be able to relate to the primping that Poodlena endures. The surroundings appear French, from the manuscript font to Poodlena's owner's attire. The song-like verse and softly painted illustrations are remarkable. E. B. McHenry's writing style resembles David Kirk of the Miss Spider books. E. B. McHenry writes in four-line rhyming verses, similar to Mr. Kirk, to tell the frilly life of "little miss" Poodlena, whose daily regimen keeps her pristine.
excerpt:
"In a big-city high-rise
On the very top floor
Lived a pink, fluffy poodle-
Poodlena Pompadour.
She wore on her head
A pink mountain of hair,
As light as a feather,
And mostly pink air."
Book Description
Sometimes I wonder
do lions use irons,
Do poodles
eat noodles,
Can chickens
read Dickens...
WHAT'S THAT? You don't know the answers, you haven't a clue? That's okay -- sometimes it's fun just to wonder. In this collection of playful poems there are musings about everything in a child's world, from "A Day at the Beach" to "My Friend's Freckles" (do they go all the way down to your toes?). The short verses are a delight to read aloud and are brought to life in funny, imaginative pictures. This book is sure to inspire plenty of giggles as it challenges readers to find the silliness in their own surroundings.

Great Gift for Child's Birthday.......2006-08-15
After purchasing the book for my son, I decided to purchase this book for each of the families attending his birthday party. It was a great little party favor gift rather than candy or silly little noise makers. The art is very well put together to incorporate relevant pieces from each story. My son looks at the pictures and picks out different animals each time we read it. The story talks about riding on the tale of a whale and within the pictures you see a child riding the tale of a whale.

Good General Book, Cookie Cutter Poodle Book.......2007-01-02
This book is a good general guide. If you are getting a poodle for the first time and do not have experience training dogs this book would be a good general guide with a few poodle specific facts (if you have not already bought a general guide). I was very disappointed in it as a "poodle book". There are a few paragraphs scattered throughout its pages, which were written (and well) by a poodle person. However, the rest of the book seems to have to the word "poodle" inserted where the word "dog" would be in any general guide. It is a cookie cutter attempt at a poodle book. Most of the poodle information is very basic anyhow, and I (as I hope any true poodle person would be) was turned off at the advocation of poodle mixes. There is not enough information guiding someone to rescue an older or mix poodle as opposed to buying a designer mix poo. Most poodle people are strictly against this. Also, there are not a lot of pictures, and the ones there are aren't very colorful or informative.
THE EVERYTHING POODLE BOOK;A COMPLETE GUIDE TO RAISING,TRAINING,AND CARING FOR YOUR POODLE.......2006-07-15
I NEEDED THE INFORMATION IN THIS BOOK WHEN I BOUGHT A POODLE PUP AND GOT IT HOME TO FIND OUT IT WAS ONLY 7 WEEKS OLD AND HAD ONLY THE 4 FANGS NO OTHER TEETH. IT WILL CONTINUE TO HELP ME RAISING THIS WONDERFUL, SMART, SWEET POODLE.
Best book by far about poodles.......2005-05-19
Lots of information that I had never read anywhere else, and I've read a lot of dog books. It is obvious the author loves dogs. My only complaint is just not enough pictures. But great, great book.
Lives up to its title.......2004-08-19
Janine Adams has written the definitive guide to living with and loving poodles. Her lively, well-written text answers every conceivable question that a person who lives with a poodle -- or would like to live with one -- could possibly ask. Without question, this book is a five-star opus.

Labradoodle .......2007-04-26
This is a review for a book no one has asked J. Acomb "Typeface diva" to comment on a breed itself. I happen to like this breed and was looking for a book review not someone's smart comment.
Adopt!.......2007-02-20
Designer dogs are mutts sold for expensive prices. They are not a breed, because breeds must conform to certain specifications- size, shape, temperament, and so forth. When you purchase a designer dog, you are effectivly buying a lottery ticket to what may either be the puppy you have been promised, or a genetic nightmare. When dogs of two completely different breeds are bred, you can have NO idea on what the puppies will look like. You can't guarentee what the coat will look like, how large or small they will be, what their attitude will be like, or whether or not they will have a plethora of genetic problems.
Because of this, thousand of designer dogs are abandoned to shelters when their owners realize that the dog was not what the breeder had promised them.
RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS DO NOT BREED DESIGNER DOGS!
If you want a dog of a specific cross, look at your local humane society! There are mutts abounds there, and they have been tested for health and temperament problems. Go to [...], and you can even search by type of breed for dogs and cats near your home.
Contribute by saving an animal for [...]$ instead of helping overpopulation by spending 500$ on a puppy whose future you can't be able to predict.

Magical Illustrations.......2006-10-26
Dena's illustrations are so captivating. The personalities really come thru with the wonderful expressions of the Poodle Princess. If you are a fan of Dena's artwork this book will not disappoint you.
What a great new addition to our book shelf!.......2006-10-20
As a mom of a pink princess obsessed 4yr. old, this book is right up her alley! The story is fun and well written. I love this Sassie character! The illustrations are bright and eye catching, such a fun and whimsical book that my daughter hasn't let out of her sight! (let alone, let her younger sister even touch!) We've even decided we're going to buy another copy to donate to her preschool so they can fall in love with it as well!
One of the best children's book illustrations I have ever seen... BRAVO!!.......2006-10-19
I have been a fan of Dena's work for years. Sassafras's illustrations manage to capture the emotions of the spoiled pink poodle perfectly. The illustrations are colorful, whimsical, and utterly delightful. Some of the best children's book illustrations I have ever seen, and it is now my two children's absolutely favorite book.
Sassie is fabulous.......2006-10-12
I absolutely LOVED Sassafrass. It perfectly captures in a comedic way how success can change and warp a personality, and how when a person (or a dog) starts to believe her own publicity, she can lose track of who she really is. Staying true to yourself and keeping your head on straight in good times and in bad is a great message for children and adults. And this tale is told with such a light touch--that it's like eating a chocolate souffle! Brava Sassie! You are adorable!
Terrific Charmer.......2006-10-12
This is a must-read for your kids! They will be enthralled by the story, with characters you too will enjoy!

Terrific Kid-Pleaser!.......2007-06-03
This book was on the 2006-7 Texas Bluebonnet List. I used it to put together a musical readers' theatre program for my third graders. They loved it! This book is high-interest, the illustrations are top-quality, and it will provide endless classroom applications to the elementary crowd.
I have included a link below of a song called "My Poodle Dog" that was perfect for the play. I couldn't find any sheet music for it, so I transcribed it from this CD.
[...]
This book is a must-have for elementary teachers and school libraries.
GRIZZ is GREAT!.......2006-01-17
What a clever, fun, and unexpected gem of a story. You could not ask for a better blend of humor and storyline to keep a child riveted and laughing all at the same time. I am so happy we got this one and hope John Frank will write some more! The illustrations are marvelous and augment the story beautifully.
SUPER Funny! Highly recommend for Boy OR Girl!!.......2005-06-20
I bought this book because of the reviews given here on Amazon... I am SO GLAD I DID! What a treasure! (You must read this in your best Southern Texas Drawl.) You will be in stiches. I'm recommending this book to everyone I know and will be giving it for all the birthdays this year.
A Gem.......2005-01-22
Dense with rich narrative language, crackling dialogue, stunning art and sidesplitting humor, this enormously entertaining western stands apart from the rest of the herd. The text is longer than that of most picture books, but it's all muscle and no fat; there's nary a wasted word. Many of the students in my undergraduate children's-literature course are headed for a career in elementary education, and all of them ought to include this title in their future classroom libraries.
Terrific book for all - especially poodle fans!.......2004-11-09
When my son pointed out this book in the bookstore, I started glancing through and then couldn't put it down. The illustrations are amazing, but the story is very funny and clever. The author uses puns and such gruff character names and traits along with a sweet little poodle, and weaves a really delightful story. The little poodle looks exactly like our neighbor's dog, so we bought two copies - one for them and one for us.
I think my husband and I have read it to our boys at least 10 times - and each time we find something new. For example, last night my son noticed that the sign SALOON had an O painted over to make the SALON sign (which I don't want to give any more away about). Even my grandfather (who had been a cowboy) loved it when we read it to him. He said the illustrations were very accurate. It's just a super book. We'll be giving it often for birthday and holiday presents this year.

A good general overview of the breed........2004-02-24
Think of this as an owner's manual for poodles. The book is aimed at those thinking about adopting or who have recently adopted a poodle. The history and characteristics of the poodle are highlighted, particularly the versatility of the breed. There are sections on preparing the home for a new puppy, feeding, health care, grooming, and training. There is lots of information here, for not much money.
Lots of good information for new dog parents........1999-03-11
I loved it, particularly because my dog is pictured in the book several times (see page 61 for my favorite shot). The editor has done a series of these books, one for each popular breed. Good how-to info and photographic examples of dog care and training.
