A Cat Care Manual.......2007-08-23
I find Anitra Frazier's "The New Natural Cat" an exellent reference. It offers good, common sense solutions to feeding, health, and behavior for your cat along with discriptions of diseases and injuries with suggestions for treatment. The book leans toward holistic solutions, but doesn't put down traditional treatments where needed.
The New Natural Cat: A complete Guide for Finicky owners.......2007-05-31
This is a wonderful reference book on how give the best care to your cat by useing natural products such as herbs and whole foods before you rush to give them conventional medicine and drugs. I volunteer as a foster mom to kittens until they can be adopted. I have bought over 10 of these books so far to give to all the new adopted parents(of course their are times when there is no substitute for a Vet's care). You can find anything that you want to concerning cats. I would also recommend Dr.Don Hamilton's book "HOMEOPATHIC CARE FOR CATS AND DOGS' as an excellent companion book. Each of these book instructs you on how to work with your pets immune system to keep them as healthy as they are meant to be. A testament to their advice is that my cat Abigail lived to be 23 years old.I highly recommend these books for the love of your cat.
Natural Health for Animals Too.......2007-05-21
Being macrobiotic myself I was looking for ways to bring up my new kittens in a healthier, more holistic way than I had with previous animals (when I, myself was not eating and living so well). This book provided me with all I wanted and more. I was looking for recipes and found them. I also found a wealth of information on how to communicate with cats and how they see the world as well as natural remedies for when they are less than in top form. Following the advice from this book and other books such as The Whole Pet Diet, and Foods Pets Die For, my cats are healthy with the shiniest, softest coats I've ever felt on a cat before. It's a wonderful book and the author, you can feel, has a real understanding of what life looks like from the cat's point of view. I would highly recommend it, and I feel if it is the only book your have about your cat it would probably be enough as it is so comprehensive.
Very entertaining and informative.......2007-01-11
I bought this book as a gift for my daughter (at her request). Her cat was having health and behavioral problems. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed reading the book from cover-to-cover and has implemented many of the ideas with success. She is constantly telling me about interesting things she has read in it and the entertaining writing style of the author and urges me to purchase a copy for myself.
The BEST book for any cat lover.......2006-02-05
I have refered to Anitra Frazier's "The New Natural Cat" as my "kitty bible" for many years. My own cats are now fourteen and fifteen years old, having been fed and cared for via Anitra's advice since they were a year, and a newborn. They are young, lively, playful and in supreme health. People who meet them can not believe their age when I tell them. Even my new vet, the first time she met my fifteen year old, guessed that she was only five or six and was astounded when she heard the cat's real age. I honestly believe that raising and caring for them naturally, and with the natural foods recommended by Anitra in this book, is a large part of their excellent health and youthful vitality.
If you have a cat, or if you simply love cats, do not hesitate to purchase a copy of this book.

Practical Guide.......2007-10-11
A good reference my wife and I have already found useful in dealing with our outside farm animals.
Must have!.......2007-01-05
This book is a must have for anyone who wants to have farm animals and doesn't know anything about animals. It is in depth and informative with instructions on how to enclose, feed and care for your farm animals. It is truthful about when you need a vet and when you don't, if you want to save money, time and energy read this book before you buy your land, animals and equipment!
Veterinary Guide for Animal Owners.......2005-09-07
The book contained all the info I was looking for
Excellent Reference.......2001-06-17
At our house, you never know what the kids will bring home next or the parents for that matter. This book has been a quick reference on any new species introduced to our household as far as domesticated animals---we do have a gecko and unfortuately there is no info on exotics in this book. It has become a well worn book as we thumbed through finding answers to problems and also on ways to prevent future problems. We have 3 cats, 2 dogs, a bunch of chickens(cochins and silkies), 2 pigs, a pygmy goat, a shetland sheep and an African Fat tailed Gecko so we needed a book that would cover a lot and this has answered many questions. It has more than paid for itself----if it saves just one vet visit!
THE ANSWERS CAN ALL BE FOUND IN HERE.......2000-08-19
This book more than paid for itself in the first 15 minutes of reading. As the owner of 2 cows, 3 cats, 7 dogs, & 8 goats, I have been using this book as my animal bible. It's written in terms that everyone can understand and the directions are clear and precise. It's saved me many calls and visits to my vet. This is a MUST HAVE book for every pet or animal owner.

Customer Reviews:
GREAT LITTLE BOOK, GREAT LITTLE PRICE1.......2001-03-06
This handy guide is well organized, factual and contains a lot of pertinent information specific to longhaired cats. All this for an affordable price! The basics in cat care, health, immunization, nutrition and grooming are contained in this book, along with some cute coloured photographs. Not that longhaired cats differ greatly from shorthaired cats in general cat care; however, certainly the grooming requirements are more laborous and you do need the right tools of the trade to work with. One item that I have found to be of tremendous value that was not mentioned here was a "detangling comb," a wide-spaced steel comb to remove mats, which can be purchased at any pet supply. This is a great little book at a great little price.

Customer Reviews:
My name is Mongo and I have FIV.......2007-01-29
When I heard the words, "feral B "Mongo" positive" being shouted from one room to another while waiting in the vet's office, I felt my heart drop into my stomach. I listened to the doctor's words but did not hear him. First thing I did when I got home was to try to find out as much information about FIV as possible as quickly as possible. Immediately I ordered this book "Feline Aids: A Pet Owners Guide" and I cannot say enough good things about the book or Mr. Hapka. He actually took the time to speak personally with me, and offered nothing but encouragement and hope during a time when I was getting nothing but negative feedback about Mongo. The results I have had are amazing and I will be forever grateful for the wealth of information and support I received from the book and Mr. Hapka. On a scale of 1 - 10 I give it a 100!
A Must for ALL Cat Owners.......2006-11-04
This is an excellent book! Tom is straightforward in regards to what an FIV+ cat is facing and tells the owner exactly what to do. He provides all sources and guidance for the use of his recommendations. Tom's plan works!
We have used Tom's plan and had amazing results with our cat. The attending veterinarian told us she would not make it; however, today she is perfectly healthy and living a normal life.
The nutrition chapters are applicable to ALL cat owners. We are using the raw foods and the high quality canned food daily. Along with the supplements. EVERY cat will achieve a much healthier state following Tom's advice. I feel guilty about the way I used to feed our cat.
Managing veterinarian care is another good section. Our vet was well meaning but he was taking a treatment approach that was having negative effects. Tom does not adocate forgoing vet care - he tells you what bad treatment is and what good treatment should entail.
This is the first review I have ever written and I am doing this one because my cat is with me today following this advice. We did hours of research looking for help and much of what is available is dated or only a partial approach. Tom has pulled everything together for a cat owner's benefit.
Helped to save Kuro.......2006-10-28
This book is so important for those people who have cats with FIV. Kuro who has had FIV since adoption in 1999 was gravely ill this spring (2006) and we thought we were going to lose him. In my desperate attempt to seek other options after exhausting all medical treatments, this book gave me information and contacts I would not have otherwise had. I learned that being proactive with nutrition, vitamins and supplements are key in keeping a FIV+ cat in good health and that homeopathic medicine can help when traditional medicine fails. Tom has been of tremendous help to our Kuro.
A MUST HAVE!!!.......2006-06-26
At a time when our veterenarian didn't have any answers we began seeking information ourselves and found Tom's book...what a blessing!
Our Grey Kitty had become very ill and refused to eat..Tom provided tons of valuble insight and information regarding every aspect of Feline Aids and alternative treatments. This book, along with Toms support and encouragement are priceless!
Tom's love & dedication to cats is amazing and so very appreciated!!! We thank you and our Grey Kitty thanks you-he looks better than ever!
Thank you Tom!!!
Feline Aids .......2006-04-26
When a book is written from the heart, like Tom Hapka wrote this one, you know the information is well researched, practical and realistic. Tom was fighting a deadline, his cat's Jac's life. It was clear Tom would leave no stone unturned. I admire him for this and am glad I found his book. When I first discovered our cat Mitts had Feline Aids I clicked through the internet and found very little that was useful to us in our day-to-day existence with Mitts. Than I found Tom's book. His book was very helpful and enthusiastic in giving the message that FIV does not mean the end. It means you have to ramp up your efforts in helping your cat live a healthy life. Unfortunately we had to put Mitts to rest about a month ago. He took a turn for the worse after the first of the year. About a year and a half ago, I had read Tom's book and put much into practice but could not find his book when Mitts started to fail. I ordered another copy at which point Tom called me and gave me more advice and updates by phone. Mitts fought the good fight but his time had come to leave. I emailed Tom and told him. He responded with a lovely email and how he understood. In re-reading his book I noted a very important section speaking about when Jac passed at the well deserved age of 18. Tom understood. Clearly he loves cats and respects life. I urge anyone who needs information on this subject to purchase this book.

Customer Reviews:
An Interesting and Reliable Guide.......2004-10-05
It may be out of date, I don't know. When it comes to important matters, everyone should consult with a trusted veterinarian. But for emergency care, interest, and a general guide, I've raised four cats on this book. Everything, from warnings on what and what not to feed your cat and what plants you can and cannot have in the house to when to call your vet, is covered, well, and easy to find. The book could use a more extensive index, but it was a very convenient and affordable helpmate for an anxious mother.
Tuxedo was four weeks old when we brought him home, which we didn't know, because he was a barn cat, and nobody really knew how old they were. Twenty-four hours after we got him settled in, we discovered that baby had no teeth. So, there we were, desperately going through the library and the pet store, frantic to figure out why baby didn't use the bathroom, didn't eat, and was losing weight at an alarming rate.
Some books were more helpful, but we were poor, and some just didn't cover enough, and some covered TOO much. I got lost in extemperanious information, and couldn't find what I needed. This one was "just right." ;-) It gave me just enough to quiet my new mother fears, and help me answer all of my questions, without losing me in technical terms, and kept me from calling the vet every ten minutes.
Tuxedo is now 16 solid pounds, healthy as an ox, and well trained. He has welcomed three women into his family, and they've all been at different stages of health, and different ages, but this book has helped us get through them all. I keep it handy, and still, after four years, turn to it about once a month when I'm in over my head.
Old Info Out of Date.......2002-02-23
In 1996 when this book first appeared it offered current information and was one of the first to address "training" in cats and to promote early-age neutering. It is written in an engaging style and remains a good basic reference for first-time kitten owners. But in the seven years since publication, much has changed in the world of feline health care, such as vaccination recommendations, and the understanding of behavior and feline diseases. DO NOT rely on this book for health care advice.
Shojai's latest book, "COMPLETE KITTEN CARE" is a much better choice. This is the author's 18th pet care title and it has up-to-date medical information and advice based on Shojai's interviews with hundreds of veterinary experts. The training and behavior material comes from Shojai's hands-on personal experience with shelter cats and kittens, as well as insights from professional breeders.
Cool!!!.......1998-03-12
VERY COOL!!!It'S Really Nice And Interesting!! Cat'S LOVER SHOULD HAVEE!!!Thats'Me!!HeHe!!
Product Description
From the Publisher Why won't Friskie play on the expensive cat tree I just bought her? How can I help Quincy lose a little weight? Is there a way to get Sami to stop scratching the sofa? If you're a cat owner with questions, Dear Tabby has the answers, and they're all right here in letters that are as witty, readable, and pertinent as any good advice column. Have you ever looked a feline in the face and wondered what she was thinking and how you can get her to understand you? According to that wisest of felines, Dear Tabby, cats have as many good reasons for their behavior as we have for ours-it's simply a matter of understanding how they think. Did you know that Socks might be scattering her cat litter around because she can't stand its perfumey scent? That Jellybean would be more energetic if his cat food had a higher protein content? That moving the cat tree next to the window will suddenly make that $200 investment look much more enticing to Mrs. Claws? As offbeat and entertaining as it is wise, Every Cat's Survival Guide to Living with a Neurotic Owner is the perfect book for all you conscientious cat owners who have ever bought a cat care manual but couldn't bring yourselves to read it. You'll read this one with pleasure, and your furry friend will purr with contentment at the results.

Award winner.......2005-04-03
Every Cat's Survival Guide to Living With a Neurotic Owner won the Tidy Cats® Feline Behavior Award presented for the best entry in the 2004 CWA Comunications Contest on the subject of feline behavior, and the 2004 CWA Muse Medallion for best book about feline behavior.
Wow! What a terrific book!.......2005-04-03
This book is a great book on cat behavior. If you want a humorous guide to understanding what makes your cat tick, "Dear Tabby" has all the answers. This book covers Diet and Grooming, Boredom, Litterbox problems, scratching, aggression, and misbehavior, and affection -- from the cat's point of view but aimed at showing owners what they need to know about cats. I read this book through and laughed at Beth's humor. She does a great job explaining what to do when your cat doesn't do what we humans think is right.
Buy this book! It's a great one.

Tender Care for Cat and Owner.......2003-06-25
I have used this book throughout the life of my shelter-adopted cat, Sami. It's well written and illustrated to give the owner a sense of what's going on with the pet, its behaviors, illnesses, etc. For a layperson, the book is an excellent handbook. I'd recommend that anyone contemplating adopting/buying a cat or kitten read this book before they take the step.
