Book Description
With her latest book, A Treasury of Magical Knitting, Cat Bordhi introduces knitters of all levels to the warm welcome of a simple and mysterious dimension of knitting. Here you will find thirty-three projects, including scarves with one side and one edge, knitted in one fell swoop, like the Fringed Cedar Bark Scarf or the Mercurial Moebius Wraps. . . graceful headwear, like the Beaded Tresses Hat. . . felted footwear both practical and functional, like Sophie's Mermaid Feet . . . the Lost Trail Cape with its four-way convertible collar . . . and the Seven Socklings Necklace.
Cat, who is known for her clear and comprehensive instructions both as a workshop teacher and as the author of the best-selling Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles, has taken outdone herself in this full-color, 112 page coffee table quality book. Instructions for the simple technique are illustrated with close-up photos showing every move, almost like a slow motion movie, accompanied by clear descriptions so that learners of all kinds will find it easy to get started.
This author of novels (Treasure Forest, first of The Forest Inside trilogy, recently won the Nautilus Award for Young Adult Fiction) and knitting books blends the art of fine story-telling with instruction. In her own words:
"Following the unfolding path of a novel is astonishingly similar to following the unfurling flow of a knitting book. Both ask me to simply show up, keyboard or needles in hand, all my senses alert and willing to welcome what wants to meet me. Sometimes I think that it is because I am tame, and so the beautiful creations that populate both novels and knitting books come nibble the grass near my feet. I do not invent any of it. I simply get to be where it is, experiencing it fully so I can share it with you. And if you recognize it, if it sparks something in you, it is because it lives in you too."
Customer Reviews:
Marvelous Moebius.......2007-09-05
Cat Bordhi's book on the moebius loop is a bit of a one-trick pony, but you gotta admit, it's a really good trick. The patterns are the same thing over & over again in different gauges, but the cast-on technique is clearly explained & was quite easy to pick up. This one's a good addition to the knitting library.
For the mind and the fingers.......2007-08-24
Cat writes engagingly about the mobius and the creative process she experienced in channeling the projects in the book. I appreciated her encouragement along the way with guidance like "If something goes wrong, rejoice and dive in to see what treasures are revealed" and "Find something to do more or less of and see what happens" and best of all, "Have at it". Sure, if you stick to her patterns you'll have great projects, but if you stick to her advice to engage your creative muse you'll also have the satisfaction of a one-of-a-kind reflection of you. One caution with this as well as any other knitting book: do an internet search for errata before you start any project.
Knitting out of "the box".......2007-03-19
Cat's book will have you thinking about knitting in an entirely different way than you've ever thought of it before! You'll certainly find something in here to nudge your creativity and be thinking of doing many new things with your needles and yarn. The book is a special memory for me after having a mobius workshop with her. She shares both her personality as well as her love of the craft of knitting in the book. It is a treasury you will treasure because of the clear instructions and explanations.
Mobius magic.......2007-03-15
If you are looking for something new in your knitting projects - buy this book. I am addicted to knitting mobious objects after reading this book. The cast-on method is a bit tricky but just follow her clearly written directions and you can do it. I love the projects in this book and the photgraphs that demostrate them. It helps to catch Cat Bordhi on The Knitty Gritty show if you want some extra help figuring this out.
not satisfied with the instructions.......2007-01-12
I have been a knitter for over 40 years and am adept at reading patterns. This particular book was written assuming people had taken her class. If you haven't the insturctions are skimpy at best. I was very disappointed. I tried to email her at her email from the book and received no response.

Book Description
Readers of the first book in this two-volume series (A Treasury of Magical Knitting) have fallen in love with the new world of Magical Knitting, a dimension so simple yet so captivating that one could spend a year exploring the huge variety of designs which Cat offers. Beginning with Cat's unique Moebius Cast-On, which is so easy that she usually demonstrates it in workshops behind her back while twirling slowly around on one foot, the reader first learns to knit a Moebius band, or scarf. This is the magic key that opens the way to all the other designs. The Second Treasury includes felted baskets (with no inside or outside!), felted fringed bowls, felted and unfelted sling bags, six different felted cat beds (one with paws and a tail!), and the trifold designs, including a knitter's bowl with pockets for tools and a place to keep working yarn away from playful felines. The Felted Needle Cozies, colorful, highly textured sheaths to hold straight needles, and the felted wallets are both excellent patterns for beginners and first-time felters. The book includes detailed information on felting, designing, and yarn substitutions.
Customer Reviews:
Magical Moebius Worlds.......2007-08-23
I bought this book on a recommendation from a friend. I immediately knew I wanted to make the marvelous moebius scarf pictured in the book. Cat's photographic directions on how to do the magical cast-on were excellent, and I managed to make a scarf. It finished with an applied i-cord edging, which I had never done before, but once again, her photographs made the directions very clear. I've made 3 of these scarves and they are quite fascinating.
I'm now ready to attempt some of the wonderful baskets that she features in the book. I want to see how some of them would work up in self striping yarn. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for something a bit different.
Excellent fun!.......2007-07-21
Although I find the projects in the first book more interesting, there are enough in this one to justify buying it - especially the bowls and cat beds. The Mobius Cast on pages are very clear, as are the instructions for Round One. I used her suggestion of a smaller needle on the left side and found my stitches slipping quite nicely on my Denise cords. No need to go out and buy more circs. Hurray! However the suggestion for using two circs on the body of the bowl was not necessary as I used a 16 inch and then double pointeds at the ending.
I am having great fun using up partial balls and adding eyelash and ribbon yarn as fun striping and edging. Also I had been wanting to learn the I-cord bind off for a while. Cat's instructions are definitely easy to follow. This is a book for adventurous knitters unless you have worked the first book so are familiar with mobius knitting.
Not as great as I thought it would be.......2007-02-14
I bought the "Treasury of Magical Knitting" and this book. One would have been enough.
emperor's new clothes.......2007-02-09
I paid nearly $30 for this book and wish I'd spent it on something more worthwhile. The Moebius cast-on is nothing more than a provisional cast-on done on a looped circular needle. While the introductory project, a Moebius scarf, drapes nicely, it's hardly worth a $30 book just for the casting-on method. The rest of the designs are unattractive. I couldn't care less if the strap on a bag is twisted. Ny cats would undoubtedly turn up their noses at a knitted bed (no matter how many hours I'd spent on it). And unless I'm missing something in the photos, anything felted won't show whether it's been knit by the moebius cast on or simply begun as a strip conventionally cast on and off, given a half-twist and joined at the ends, and the long side's stitches picked up again. I think we have something of a boondoggle here.
Mobius rocks.......2007-01-07
I am a new knitter. After taking a class on the Mobius method, and getting into Cat Bordhi's fun and quirky head, it will be very boring for me to pick-up any of my other started projects. I have this and the first book, and was able to create many quick christmas presents that were a hit. Cat has found many ways that have simplified so many of the knitting methods, I am now able to transfer her methods to other knitting book patterns that I was afraid to try. I highly recommend trying these 2 books, you won't believe how how fun and strange it is, and knitting will never be the same for you.

Customer Reviews:
Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty.......2002-12-14
This "Treasury" is a collection of Sunday Garfield comic strips from October 1984 through November 1986.
This treasury collection also shows the final morphing by creator Jim Davis of Garfield and his friends into what we see today in the comic strips.
Yes, Still Missing Logos-But Still Funny........2002-05-19
Garfield is back in living color for the fourth time and it's funny. In this book, Garfield and Odie run away from home and do several other things in color. Garfield makes me laugh all the time and I'd recommend this book, as well as his mini-books and other treasuries. Funny.
Good, good, good.......2000-04-27
This book is a nice anthology of some of Garfield's funniest moments. Really enjoyable
a wonderful book.......1999-11-16
The first time I read this book I was only 8 years old Garfield has done wonderful things for me. He has given me a companion. Even if he is a cat.
A cat's cat.......1999-04-01
Speaking as a writer of humor/satire/parody (most recently, Scratching the'Net: Web Sites for Cats - a book answering the question, "What would the internet look like if it were run by cats?"), what can I say except that Garfield is truly a cat's cat. And it's all here in this excellent collection.

Customer Reviews:
Very Funny, But Still Missing The Logo Boxes!.......2002-05-10
I laughed a lot throughout The Ninth Garfield Treasury, but I wasn't completely satisfied with my purchase. Why? Well, as other reviewers have noted, the logos and very first little box in each strip is missing! This is a problem because I'm sure Jim Davis spends a lot of time thinking up these creative logos and I don't know if he's happy about them being cut out.
Other than that, The Ninth Garfield Treasury is a pretty good buy. I've always thought color was the best way to go with Garfield (check out the funny one that's half black-and-white and half color in this book!), and so I've been purchasing the Treasuries for that one reason. This book is noticeably a lot more bright than the previous few. Red, black, white, green, all sorts of colors show up in this book, and with good detail, too. I think Jim Davis is one of the most talented cartoonists ever (take that, Snoopy!), and his ability to make all his Garfield strips funny and cute (some quite heartwarming, too). I hope Garfield goes for another twenty years (or forty, or sixty!), because I find him constantly inspired. He rarely fails to make me laugh! Keep up the kicking, Garfield!
If you like this book, I'd recommend Garfield Treasury, and The Tenth Garfield Treasury.
What can I say.......1999-11-06
The best yet. it is so funny and I don't just say that because I'm a die-hard garfield fan. it was very well written. I'm telling you if you like garfield you like this book.
The best garfield book..............1999-03-21
Get ready to laugh! This book is the best book of the treasuries!I like this book, because it has lots of color in it.And I agree, this book dosen't have logo boxes like the other books! The bad part of this book is that it is short. But I think Jim Davis should make the tenth treasury!
A very good book, with one exception..........1998-07-12
The only thing I don't like about the Garfield Treasuries (the recent ones anyway) is that they don't show the Logo-boxes or Drop-panels (as shown as in the "mini-books") with the sunday comics! These things might not show up in all comics sections every week (just like some newspapers still have dailies in b/w) but they're still a major part of the strip and I'd love to see the colors of the logo and drop panels in the Tenth Garfield Treasury. Other than that, this is a great book and a must-have for any Garfield fan.

Compiled by Martin H. Greenberg this is an anthology of 21 mysteries involving cats. Previously published short stories by Lilian Jackson Braun, of the famous "Cat Who" mysteries; Bill Crider and 19 others most of the short stories are interesting. They, for the most part, are quick reads, for this reader wanted to get to the next cat tale.

As addicting as candy corn on Halloween!.......2007-01-25
Halloween is just a few days away, and Mandy Hope and her best friend James Hunter are ecstatic to celebrate the spooky holiday. But first, however, they need to send out the invitations to their annual Halloween party, otherwise Halloween is sure to be ruined. But when a string of vandalism takes place in Welford, Mandy and James put their Halloween plans on pause and decide that they have to get to the bottom of the tragic acts. However, even that takes a backseat when their friend John's family receives a package full of candy from America known as candy corn, and the friends begin chowing down on it, only to discover that a black Burmese kitten with orange eyes is hiding beneath the sticky treat. Mandy promptly names the kitten Pumpkin, and begins creating signs of different various sizes and shapes in an attempt to locate the feisty kitten's owners, but the more snooping she does, the more she realizes that perhaps Pumpkin isn't a lost little kitty after all, but, rather, was abandoned by someone heartless. Luckily, Mandy's parents agree to allow Pumpkin to reside at Animal Ark, at least until after All Hallows Eve, to see if someone claims the kitten, but that only creates more trouble. For it's by hanging around Animal Ark's reception office that James and Mandy run into Ms. Greenwood. Ms. Greenwood lives out in the forest, amongst trees and wildlife, and rarely makes her way into the town square, but when the woman - whom the townspeople, including James, believe is a witch - stumbles upon a badger with a hurt leg, she knows that only Mandy's parents, Drs. Emily and Adam can set the badger on his merry way again. And, while she may be a sight to look at, her heart is in the right place. So when Mandy thinks of an idea involving both Pumpkin and Ms. Greenwood, James knows that he'll be dragged into the scheme unwillingly, before you can even say "trick-or-treat!"
One thing I have come to rely on with Ben M. Baglio's ANIMAL ARK series is that he coincides many of the books with holidays, which really makes them take on a lifelike reality, and puts readers in the mood for the holidays - be it Halloween, Christmas, or the Fourth of July. Baglio's ability to add in facts about holidays (like the uniqueness of America's candy corn in England), combined with an animal-oriented tale is always such a delight. Pumpkin is a cat who will leave readers in stitches, what with his crazy antics, friskiness, and just plain, all-around friendliness. He manages to wiggle and worm his way into your heart instantly, and leaves readers craving a furry playmate of their own. Mandy, on the other hand, is wonderful, as always. Her dependability, and kind heart make her an irresistible character. While her willingness to welcome anyone into her world, be it friend or faux, child or adult, stranger or relative, is certainly refreshing, and nice to see in a world of books circling around cliques, and unfriendly teenage girls. Her friendship with James is hilarious, as she constantly drags her into her hare-brained ideas, as he reluctantly tries to escape them. As addicting as candy corn on Halloween!
