Poodle Clipping and Grooming.......2007-05-16
Another grooming book for my collection. A wonderful book (although not a current 2006/7), it displays great pictures, explores and explains different clipping styles available for poodles. A great book for the beginner to gain more knowledge or a more in depth book for the professional. Black & White print.
Poodle Clipping and Grooming extraordinaire.......2007-05-09

Awesome book find!!!.......2007-01-17
This book is awesome. The step by step instructions and photos helped guide me through from clipping...bathing...brushing...getting the right equipments down to trims... it's a helpful tool for novices and pro groomers alike. Trust me, it's a wise investment and worth every dollar spent. So for those of you who have it in their hearts to bond and groom your pet and show poodle... this book is it!
the gold standard in poodle grooming.......2007-01-17
I chose this book because it has been known as the gold standard in poodle grooming books for many years. I am just beginning to groom my two standard poodles and this book is very helpful. It covers trimmers and other grooming equipment thoroughly and has a great chart that explains what type of cut each numbered blade provides, for five different brands of trimmers. It includes almost every type of cut you might consider giving your poodle and each cut has great photographs and/or black and white drawings that help you visiualize what you are doing. The book also has seperate sections for how to groom feet, topknot, tail, face, stomach and ears- I have refered to these chapters many times and they have very helpful instructions and tips. I would highly recommend this book, it will be the only one you need-its so complete. Many people are surprised to find that I am grooming my own dogs and they often comment that the dogs look like they went to a professional.

complete accurate.......2007-09-03
the book is such an accurate portrayle of our hispanic culture. some one who is ignorant might see it as a racist view but you have to be able to be open minded.
Great book I identified and had similar stuggles growing up as a Mexican in Los Angeles. .......2007-06-01
What a great book. I was able to identify with the author. Being raised in Los Angeles by Mexican parents, and only speaking spanish till the second grade, was equally shocking as it was for Ernesto Caravantes.
Great Book. Identifies the main problem with Hispanics in the USA and why they rarely get ahead........2007-05-31
As a former school teacher, this book was refreshing to read. From first hand experience, my worst students were always the hispanic kids. I felt more like a baby sitter with them. They were constantly absent and had no interest in learning (for the most part). Naturally, many dropped out. The hispanic kids in my classes were usually disruptive and interfered with the white and Asian students who generally were eager to learn. Another thing is that the hispanic kids would always mark their desks & books with graffiti, showing they have no respect for anything. My advice would be to separate the hispanic kids from the others because the hispanics severely interfere with standard coursework and thus hold the entire class back.
Excellent title!.......2007-05-23
This book highlights the many problems currently facing the Latino community with regards to education. A must read.
Clipping their own wings.......2007-05-14
This should be a required reading for teachers, educators. administrators and anyone who is in that field. It might be a good idea to translate it into Spanish for those who do not speak English and motivate them and their children to better their chances by simply learning English.

I could still use it as a supplement for a computer graphics course.......2007-02-19
In the late 1980's I taught a computer science course in computer graphics and I used this book as the text. It was one of the most interesting courses I have ever taught, the students and I had a lot of fun. The action on the screen was slow and patience was required as we were running Turbo Pascal on IBM PC's.
Although it is now dated, this book was more than adequate for our needs. While it was abbreviated, the coverage was complete, well suited for a beginning course where the emphasis was on the mathematical foundations rather than the modern bells and whistles. Even today, if I were to offer a computer graphics course, I would consider using this book as a supplement, computer power may have advanced over the years, but the mathematics has stayed the same.
Nice and Concise.......2006-09-01
I bought this for its worked examples in graphics, particularly projections and perspective transformations. It covers these topics throughly and clearly. The chapters on clipping to the view frustrum and transforming to the device coordinates were also excellent. The material on general graphics transformations was easy to follow. The appendices cover necessary parts of vector algebra and geometry. The level seems suited for a reader who has had undergraduate vectors and calculus classes. This book is complete, understandable and certainly a bargain compared to other texts costing 5 times as much
Helpful for computer graphics algorithm details.......2006-01-07
Two things that you'll likely find in most computer graphics textbooks are:
1. A triple digit price tag
2. Disorganized and obfuscated algorithm details
This Schaum's outline is an excellent antidote to both of these problems. Besides its low price tag, it has a very clear presentation of the basics of computer graphics algorithms. It starts out talking about image representation including common color spaces. It gives a clear definition of dithering, halftone approximations, and error diffusion. Next comes a discussion of scan conversion, which is how to translate geometric figures into pixels. Chapters 4 and 5 discuss two-dimensional graphics and their transformations. This includes good discussions and examples on matrix transformations and how they can be chained together. Chapters 6 through 8 extend these concepts to three dimensions. Very detailed information is given on transformations, projections, and clipping in 3D. This includes a definition of a typical 3D graphics "pipeline", which is basically an assembly-line of computer graphics from object definition to display. Chapter 9 on geometric representations was not as good as the other chapters in this outline, since it didn't do a very good job of talking about such representations in greater than two dimensions which is necessary for the development of wireframe models. However, the last three chapters of the book on hidden surfaces, shading models, and ray tracing had very good examples and discussions that could lead to pseudocode. I would highly recommend this guide to anyone taking or planning to take a course on computer graphics as a good language-independent guide to the basic methods and algorithms of computer graphics programming.
Very handy reference.......2001-01-09
This book is a very handy guide to have while you are studying computer graphics. It explains a wide variety of topics in the field computer graphics as well as the math that is involved. However, this book is all concepts and math. You will not find much code in here, but rather a good review of the theory behind elementry computer graphics. I recommend this book to those taking an undergraduate course in computer graphics.
For software engineers / programmers an excellent choice.......1999-09-18
This excellent book enabled me to design my first graphics pipeline from scratch. Even though technologies like DirectX, OpenGL and Glide provide this all for you on a platter today; if you want to understand the maths that they all share at their core, this is the book !

Clippings from Orene's Garden.......2003-04-01
Orene Stroud Horton, renowned garden writer and true southern lady gives us a wealth of practical and artistic information in this book. It is a wonderful resource for novice to expert gardners, as well as pleasant reading. Espically important are the numerous plant combinations that provide guidance to southern gardners for beautiful color and texture. It wonderful to have her wisdom in one place and not scattered on many slips of paper. A special thanks to her family who have made this gift available to all.
A User Friendly Gardening Guide.......2003-03-20
After years of trial and error gardening that's hard on the back as well as the budget, I welcome this practical guide that tells me as much or as little as I want to know.
I like the author's conversational, neighbor to neighbor style. And she presents the reader with regular bouquets of gardening tips from experienced friends and professionals, specific ways to make gardening easier and more pleasant for both the gardener and the plants.
Using the book's helpful calendar month organization, I easily found instructions on how and when to prune my Crape Myrtle -- and the mistakes to avoid. In the accompanying table, I found its height, flower color, trunk color, and fall color.
Whether she's discussing Monet's garden, her garden, or mine, I like the wit and humor with which the author explains "rose rustlers" and "passalong plants" and "xeriscaping". Her guidance in how to choose the right plant for the right place will help any gardener eliminate landscaping disappointments. And I especially welcome her "southern fried" section on how both gardeners and plants can beat the heat.
This book is fun to read, easy to use, and my new gardening companion.
Walking with Orene through her winter garden.......2003-03-19
This afternoon is gray and cold, but I've really been unaware of it, as I've had the companionship of Orene as she "walked me through" her winter garden. With her today, I have seen things I have never dreamed existed outside in winter. Having lived all my life in North Carolina, I have always taken for granted the flowers and trees that are indigenous to this area. My mother had a "green thumb" and worked in her roses tirelessly, humming to her heart's content. I merely enjoyed the fruits of her labor. Until today, as I walked with Orene. I was totally unaware of the wonders that take place before and during the growing season. For her to hold my attention so completely and to bring several chuckles to my lips as she describes her world has been a thing of beauty. I have several hobbies that are so different from hers (although hers was a way of life) that it really surprised me just how much I learned from her sharing and how much it kindled my interest in gardening. I can readily see how gardeners share her interests and have knowledge of the names and habits of the different flowers and trees she so beautifully describes gain much from the pages of her book. It is easy and enjoyable reading and written in such a personal way that one feels she is talking strictly to them. After having shared this adventure with Orene, I know that I will be more mindful of the surprises that lurk in my own yard and seek to see them through her eyes. How grateful I am that she has left these thoughts and the vast knowledge she had about her love of gardening so that we may benefit from her life forever. Such love and beauty should be preserved and treasured. How like her to devise a way to continue to give and to share her passion, not only for gardening, but for God's people!
A wonderful layman's guide to gardening!.......2003-03-19
It's in my blood but I never appreciated what gardening meant to my mother and her mother until reading "Clippings." The "open letter" at the end sums it up.
I have been a homeowner for 30 years and searched for a practical guide to gardening. This book provides a layman's perspective--enough detail to understand pansies, crape myrtles, camellias, azaleas, etc. but not be overwhelmed--there are references if you want that.
Orene's style is that of a patient mother teaching an eager leaner. I appreciate that and recommend "Clippings" to my fellow weekend "gardening" warriors.
A GREAT REFERENCE.......2003-03-17
Orene Horton's wise advice works for beginners and experts alike. She obviously loved her gardening and sharing that feeling with others. This is a book that can be read straight through and then kept as a continuing reference.

The best poodle grooming book to date.......2000-10-11
I have yet to find a more comprehensive, practical book on poodle grooming. If this book is available at your library and you are considering buying a poodle, check it out! There's nothing better in print for unraveling the mystique of poodle grooming. Whether you wish to attempt grooming and clipping your own poodle or simply wish to become an educated consumer when taking your poodle to the professional groomer, you'll find enough detailed, easy-to-understand information in this book to do the job. Future editions could be improved by adding some color pictures and possibly a review of new grooming products, techniques and /or styles. Even so, when a book has been around this long and is still getting rave reviews, consider it a must-have for the poodle-owner's library.
Best poodle grooming reference on the market.......2000-02-12
This book, along with the Oster poodle grooming video, were my lifelines when I first stumbled through grooming my black standard poodle almost 7 years ago. I have since bought other books on poodles, but the concise text, pictures and diagrams were extremely helpful in the beginning. I have opted for various pet trims instead of the traditional show trims as they are much easier to keep. I can now clip my poodle, trim, pluck hair, etc. better than some of the groomers I have taken him to. The initial equipment cost for anyone owning a standard poodle (clippers, table, scissors, etc.) is quite a chuck of money added already to the purchase price of the dog, but it is much more cost effective than spending $70-$100 for a good groomer every 6-8 weeks. I highly recommend this book and will buy the new edition when it comes out in November. I'll then pass this one on. My only recommendation, use some colour pictures next time too.
the complete poodle clipping and grooming book.......2000-02-07
without a doubt a " must have "book for the serious poodle owner who also wants to clip and groom their poodle.great step by step instructions for all the show clips and directions for brushing and cleaning your poodle are included. this is not a book about "poodles" as much as how to groom and clip your poodle.this book is invaluable to me as a fancier with show dreams....
Just what I needed--lots of specific detail.......1999-05-14
I have my first Poodle and am learning to groom. It's going fairly well, and this book tied a lot of loose ends together & answered questions. Pictures are good. Text gets to the point--very helpful.
An EXCELLENT "How To" Book! Very Informative and Detailed.......1999-03-22
Wonderful and Fun book for the person who wants to clip their own poodle at home. I've been looking for many years for a book like this to come along! I loved the detailed pictures of the different poodle clips. Also, I learned many new aspects of grooming health that I did not know, previous to reading this book. Ms. Kalstone's book makes it easy for anybody's poodle to look like they came out of a professional grooming salon.

Annoyed and disappointed.......2007-01-19
I bought this as a gift for my teenage daughter and thought I was getting her something that would be funny and adult-like. I was very disappointed because it was designed to be almost like a kindergartener's cardboard book with many cute pictures. It was the written equivalent of "Funniest Home Vidoes" TV show where there is too much time spent being cute and funny in the studio and not enough time showing funny videos. There were lots of bright colors and pictures, but not enough writing. My daughter was excited to get the book but then read the whole thing in about 5 minutes. I think they took one sample "moment" from each magazine from the past couple of years to fill this little book. I would never recommend purchasing this book to anyone.
BEST BOOK EVER!!.......2006-11-10
