surgery bible.......2007-03-10
This book is a must for everyone who want to upgrade his knowledge about surgery technics
Top Book.......2006-08-22
I am a final year veterinary medical student and this book is fantastic. The procedures are easy to follow and pictures are really great. It reminds me a little of Nelson & Couto (so if you like that one this book is for you!). The only thing thats not very good is the ovariohysterctomy and the castration- were kind of confusing!
Useful surgical text.......2006-03-19
This book contains excellent descriptions of most procedures required in general practice. Good diagrams and has a better orthopaedic section than other texts. Should be in library of all general practices.
Very useful for students.......2005-10-04
The book is great for students and surgery beginners. Maybe the author should include more personal tips and "secrets" in the next issue.
Book Description
Take an unforgettable journey through the English countryside and into the homes of its inhabitants-- four-legged and otherwise-- with the world's best-loved animal doctor.
For over 25 years-- since All Creatures Great and Small was first published-- readers have delighted to the storytelling genius of James Herriot, the Yorkshire veterinarian whose fascinating vignettes brim with the wonder of life, animal and human.
Whether struggling mightily to position a calf for birthing, or comforting a lonely old man whose beloved dog and only companion has died, Herriot's heartwarming and often hilarious stories of his first years as a country vet perfectly depict the wonderful relationship between man and animal-- and they intimately portray a man whose humor, compassion , and love of life are truly inspiring.

Beautiful edition.......2007-07-16
I bought this edition as a gift for a graduating vet student (every vet needs a copy in his or her office). The book is a classic, and the hardcover is suitable for gifting.
Good reading.......2007-05-07
I read his books as a teen and loved them. Bought the whole set for my grandsons, [teens]. They laughed until they cried. [so did I].
Heart Warming.......2007-04-21
As a child, I grew up in a family that devoured the stories of James Herriot. You will laugh, cry, smile at the stories that are shared with the readers. At times I feel like I am right there by his side as he operates on an animal.
At the present, I am re-reading the whole series. PBS movies are good-but not as good as the books.
This books deals with the beginnings of his vet practice, and I get a kick out of James being an "uncle" to a dog and a pig.
An Amazingly Gifted Storyteller.......2007-04-16
Read the first page. That's all you need to decide you want this book. The author is a veterinarian in Yorkshire, and perhaps my American readers are aware of a PBS series by the same name. He's just an amazingly gifted storyteller. This guy is a veterinarian, but his writing puts most "professional authors" to shame.
The best book in the universe bar none except no substitutes Numero Uno etc...........2007-02-16
Yes, this is my all-time favorite book, and it begins my all-time favorite series. Can you summarize the almost limitless appeal of Herriot? I will try. First of all, this book takes place in England, and I am a committed Angliophile. It is warm and compassionate without being soppy. It is a timeless memoir that cuts a slice out of the pie of time and keeps it forever. Prior to Herriot, I exclusively read fiction. Not just any fiction, but Science Fiction and Fantasy Fiction, both of which are as different from this book as jam is from vegemite (eeuurggh!). Reading Herriot made me realize that the old saying "Truth is stranger than fiction" left out something. Truth is BETTER than fiction. Enjoy wiht my compliments.

Better books Available.......2007-10-10
I was disappointed in this book. It uses very few ingredients, and just offers a number of variations on those ingredients. Also there is no explanation of why each ingredient has been chosen, which makes it difficult to substitute when necessary. I have a number of other pet-food books, and most of them are more useful.
Pet's health already improved!.......2007-09-10
After following the easy recipes in Dr. Strombeck's book for a month our 4 year old Cocker Spaniel's health has improved significantly! She has the energy of a puppy, her eyes are bright, she sleeps less, and she has fewer bathroom needs. Dr. Strombeck has written an easy to read book and includes his research and rationale for the ideas he proposes. He also includes recipes for pet health problems. The recipes take only a few minutes to prepare and the ingredients are easy to find. NOW Foods, Bone Meal Powder - 16 oz. Using beef or chicken broth to cook the rice or carbs in adds a lot of flavor. Our dog loves the food (even the tofu!) and cleans her bowl every meal. And I feel confident that she's getting all of the nutrition she needs. I highly recommend this book.
A HUGE difference within 1 week!.......2007-08-14
I was preparing a stew for my dogs in lieu of wet food, but still serving them commercial, organic kibble, which they would barely eat. I asked my vet about feeding them 100% home cooked meals and he recommended this book. It is an expensive book and I sort of felt like I need a refresher course in biology, chemistry and math, BUT after reading it a couple times in a quiet, distraction free room, and making notes as I read, I got it. The only complaint I had is the dog weights go in 10lb. increments and a 20lb dog does not get twice what a 10lb dog does, so figuring out a portion for my 12lb dog was kind of an educated guess, BUT I am amazed to report an HUGE difference in their coats in just one week. My 12lb. Boston Terrier has soft hair like when she was a puppy again and our 60lb. lab mix has shown a great improvement with her allergies. It is a little bit of work, but it is easy to cook for a week at a time and just add the oils & supplements daily. If you love your pet, can afford a slight increase in your weekly trip to the market and have the time to prepare the food, DON'T HESITATE.
Healthy Dose of Preventative Care.......2007-07-30
Lots of great recipes for cats and dogs, including special recipes for disease or allergies. Some ingredients are difficult to find, so search around. The book is written for a vet or someone in the industry, so it's not a simple petfood cookbook for your everyday animal lover. But it is pretty simple, really, just a collection of recipes.
If I were to remake this book, I'd:
- Organize the pages so there is only one recipe per page and no recipes were cut in half by a page change.
- Suggest where to find certain ingredients
- Give storage and serving information in the recipe, not the front of the book.
Probably the best guide available.......2007-05-31
Probably the best guide available for those who prefer to avoid commercial processed pet foods. Extremely detailed.
Book Description
This outstanding reference focuses on the clinically relevant aspects of the most commonly encountered internal medical problems in dogs and cats. Now in its 3rd edition, Small Animal Internal Medicine has been hailed for its emphasis on diagnostic approaches to clinical signs, diagnostics techniques, general therapeutics, and synopses of important disorders. It teaches readers how to think critically and develop decision-making skills. The first sections cover specific disorders by body system, while the final sections pertain to oncology, hematology and immunology, and infectious diseases. Each section has been developed by one author for a consistent approach, beginning with discussions of clinical signs and leading into diagnostic techniques and appropriate treatment. Extensive color illustrations, tables, and algorithms set this book apart.

excellent resource for clinical rounds or every day practice.......2007-03-10
As a veterinary student, I have found myself using this book on a weekly basis. If you are looking for a quick overview of specific diseases or a complete description of diseases you are learning for the first time, this book is an excellent resource to have in your collection. Every practicing veterinarian should have this text in their library collection.
Best SAM Book!.......2007-01-28
I'm a veterinary and even though this book wasn't on my school's book list, I took the advice of a veterinarian that I worked with and bought this book. It is so good! It has a little bit more information than my professor;s notes, but nothing crazy. If you are a vet student I would for sure recommend this book even if it isn't on your school's book list. It's written very simply and isn't "wordy" as many of the texts can be. There are lots of diagrams and pictures to help out. I love this book!
One of the best SA Medicine books out there.......2006-02-24
I love the book. It is an excellent reference for my practice.
Beats Ettinger Hands Down.......2002-06-14
That pretty much sums it up. This book is a lot more user friendly. Ettinger's is good for those in acedemia. Nelson & Couto is for those in the "real world".
Vet Students Agree.......2002-05-06
I recently consulted with a group of advanced veterinary students on which of the small animal internal medicine texts would be the most useful to me. For the record, I am an allied health professional with more background in human medicine. I looked at this text and Ettinger's, which--again!--my sources kept referring to as the bible of small animal internal medicine. Ettinger was only about $30 more than this text, and as a big two-volume set, it looked like a better deal at first glance. However, this text is FAR more user-friendly, and there were sections that I read right away out of sheer interest. Unless you are a vet student planning to make a meaningful investment in heavy books, this book is likely to meet your needs and do so in a relatively painless way.

Excellent book.......2007-08-09
The 3rd edition of Infectious Diseases of Dogs and Cat is an excellent book for DVM, BVSc & AH and other equivalent degree programs. It is also an uptodate source of information for ACVM exams. I would recommend it for all Veterinary Microbiologists and Veterinary Practitioners.
Greene's Infectious Diseases.......2000-03-29
As a vet student, I purchased this for a small animal medicine course, but have used it for almost all of my classes. It would be an invaluable reference for the small animal practitioner or vet student and, in my opinion, is the most complete source for information of infectious diseases of small animals currently available.
Book Description
No other quick reference comes close to providing this much accurate, timely, and clinically useful diagnostic and therapeutic information. It's like six books in one -- Diseases and Disorders, Procedures and Techniques, Differential Diagnosis, Laboratory Tests, Clinical Algorithms, and a Drug Formulary. Plus, it includes free access to a fully searchable companion website featuring an electronic version of the text, a searchable drug formulary, and 100 customizable Client Education Sheets in both English and Spanish.

Excellent resource.......2007-05-28
I am very impressed with this book - it was recommended to me by colleagues. I find the differential diagnoses lists especially helpful, and the online reference tool is excellent too.
Highly recommended!
A Must Have!.......2007-02-28
This is a must have for any small animal veterinarian or student. It blows the "5 Minute Consult" out of the water. There is always someone using it our practice, we have just decided to leave it out on our treatment table. It's a very concise but thorough reference for everyday use. It's well organized and easy to read. 95% of the time the information we need is in there. If not, we refer to specific books on Optho, derm etc but you could practice veterinary medicine with just this book! I highly recommend it!

Helpful.......2007-09-30
This book was purchased for me to help set up a business plan for self-serve dog wash with employees. I was not impressed with some of the ideas that were mentioned in the book regarding the design and style of cards to send to the customers to encourage continued business. Overall, this book was helpful and it sparked my own ideas.
Pet Grooming.......2007-05-15
Not exactly what I was looking for. Thought it would have more of example business plans in it. Good starter book for the Pet grooming.
From Problems to Profits Succeeds.......2004-08-10
This is the definitive book on the "business side" of grooming. Why another reviewer here would say to refer to Notes From The Grooming Table doesn't make sense. It's a great book on the "how to groom side" of grooming and is not a book on the business side of grooming at all. From Problems to Profits for the business side of grooming and Notes for the styling side of grooming and you have the best of the best today.
Useless for House Call or Mobile Grooming.......2004-07-18
I was recommended this book by grooming board but I found it totally useless for the mobile groomer or house call groomer. The book called "Notes from the Grooming Table" is a much better investment for the groomer in general.
The best of the best for grooming........2003-12-23
I visited the office of this author today and asked if I could write a review, and they put me online here so here I am. At first I thought this book was the biography of the author. It's not. It's her system she used to go from a tiny salon to a major pet salon. No matter how small or large a grooming shop you want, you can do it. I was so impressed look at me, I came to visit the author and what a warm welcome I was given. I bet her 5,000 pet owner clients loved her as much as me. This is a classic and many books on how to for any type of service business could take a lesson from the format of this book. If you are going to own a grooming small or large there are so many gems of info in this book. I am so impressed and feel so great about my future as a grooming business owner.
Book Description
The 2nd Edition of this popular reference provides all of the information needed to form a diagnosis quickly and accurately, establish a prognosis, and recommend treatment for a patient suffering an illness, injury or toxic event.
Customer Reviews:
Great book for all small animal veterinarians, buy it!.......2006-07-08
I have worn out the first edition, which is just under 300 pages. This book is about twice the size but has more than 2X the info because the type is smaller. This is the book I often use daily to get me through poisonings, trauma and more. Each problem has the treatment completely listed, you do NOT have to page back and forth to find drugs, procedures, etc. Buy it, I'm glad I did!
Needed for emergency vets.......2006-03-09
Great book for an emergency practice or just to review the occasional emergency problem. Definitely worth buying. Also, worth updating from the first edition.
Recommended.......2006-02-22
I have purchased several reference texts on emergency medicine over the years - this is by far the best - well organized and (quickly)readable.
This is THE Emergency Book to Own.......2001-12-10
Practical, concise and to the point, easy to find what you need and reasonably priced. Need I say more?
Just get it!.......2001-04-26
I had the first edition; it was very good. This is a different book; much better. Tiny letters, no drawings, 574 pages, information on virtually every emergency you can think of. And good information, right to the point, no words wasted. It reviews 99 emergency syndromes in dogs or cats, 40 intoxications, and emergencies in 14 different exotic pets (including fish). Every item includes at least diagnosis, prognosis , and treatment, and has all the details and alternatives that you may need in an emergency situation. There is a certain amount af repetition but this allows one to use any chapter with complete independence from the others (that is what you want in an emergency). Not all syndromes may be real emergencies, but all need some quick medical response, and this books makes them easier and (I am sure) better. When I face an emergency, just feeling this book next to me is reassuring. Bravo, Signe, you wrote a great book and made a big favor to our profession!

Anatomy of Domestic Animals.......2006-03-25
This book is an excellent soure to study anatomy, diagrams are very clear and there is not much writing however, what is written is useful and written well. probably best used in conjunction with another anatomy book in order to get the most out of it. I would highly recommend this book for any body studying anatomy.
Thank you.......2006-03-12
the delivery was rapid, even coming from the USA to england, item is new and in perfect condition. definantly a worthwhile buy. thank you
Excellent!!.......2005-10-11
This book is great. Very helpful. Pictures are well drawn and labeled. Highly recommended.
Excellant animal anatomy book.......2005-08-19
This book is excellant for the study of anatomy of all mamals. The pictures were very desciptive and the text helped to explain things alittle. The book doubled as a coloring book if one chose to use it as such to help reinforce where things were located. The only thing I wished it had was information on birds.
Better than Dyce.......2004-01-12
This a great book that gets right to the point instead of dancing around it like dyce. I highly recommend it to all of my fellow vet students. It will save you tons of time!
Book Description
James Herriot's Treasury for Children collects all of the beloved veterinarian's delightful tales for young readers. From the springtime frolic of Oscar, Cat-About-Town to the yuletide warmth of The Christmas Day Kitten, these stories-radiantly illustrated by Peter Barrett and Ruth Brown-are perennial favorites, and this new complete edition will make a wonderful gift for all readers, great and small.
Customer Reviews:
We LOVE this book!.......2007-09-08
My 7 yr old son and my 5 yr old daugher both LOVE this book. And so does mom! It has beautiful illustrations and the stories are warm and wonderful.
Excellent bridge to the pleasures of independent reading.......2007-04-24
I constantly search for beautiful books to develop my children's minds, souls, and taste for literature and thinking. There is a struggle for every parent to find books during the period occurring AFTER the child has learned the mechanics of reading and BEFORE the child can read more than the chapter book pablum churned out by most educational houses and curriculum providers. It seems now the "hook" given to young children is magic and witchcraft lore spawned by the Harry Potter books - but that is another topic entirely.
I have a deep appreciation for beautiful, well-chosen words. Very few books are rightly called "literature," but this book is one of them. Each story is written beautifully and powerfully, obviously from the pen of a great master. The author brings out the details of appearance, background and psyche and the stories resonate with beauty and truth.
I like best that the power of the story comes from the beauty and wonder of the simple and ordinary. So much of our modern literature relies upon shock and caters to the overstimulated, easily-bored personality which needs ever-increasing levels of shock and stimulation to be amused. This book nourishes reflection and the meditation upon the things which are true, honest, just, pure and lovely,
Another delightful thing about this book is the rendering of the artwork. The book is heavily illustrated on each page, and the words are IN the paintings. The visual and verbal components are wedded together in a way that the words are friendly and integral to the story - an absolute necessity for the child to cross the bridge from mechanical reading to reading adventures. The illustrations are masterfully done and very much in keeping with the beauty and power of the language.
The book has sophisticated vocabulary presented in an unobtrusive way. The child learns these words without knowing he has done so.
My seven-year-old son has just finished reading this book, and the joy we both have in listening to him read and explain to me his thoughts and feelings about the stories is priceless (as is his pronunciation of some of the larger words).
Life lessons in empathy and compassion........2007-04-24
This is an absolutely delightful collection of stories, generously illustrated and put together with a child's point of view in mind. It belongs in every library, in every home with children, and on every child's reading list. There is so much information about treating animals (farm animals, family pets, and special companion animals) that is interesting to children and adults. As a bonus, the stories evoke emotions that help little ones develop compassion for all living creatures. It's a wonderful book. But don't forget the DVD's: All Creatures Great & Small: The Complete Series 1 Collection
Sweet farm-based tales.......2007-03-29
My six-year-old son loves the stories in this book, just as I loved James Herriot's series starting with All Things Bright and Beautiful. The vocabulary is a bit sophisticated, even for my well-spoken boy, but it's not too distracting.
Love books by this author!.......2007-01-16
My whole family loved this book. My 5 year old especially enjoyed when I read it to her. We have read it several times and she still asks to hear the stories again.
