Book Description
In The Te of Piglet, a good deal of Taoist wisdom is revealed through the character and actions of A. A. Milne's Piglet. Piglet herein demonstrates a very important principle of Taoism: The Te-a Chinese word meaning Virtue-of the Small.
Customer Reviews:
Hoff Sounds Like the Biggest Eeyore of Them All..........2007-09-18
The Te of Piglet started off innocent enough, why with cute characters and even cuter writing how could this turn out bad? Don't get comfortable just yet! Before I knew it, I was being bombarded by Hoff's complaints about the Western world and its wretched politics. Oh how the West has lost its way--or rather, never knew the way to begin with! This is NOT a spiritually informative book, it is a compilation of Hoff's frustrations with the Western world, in particular, America. He makes it a point to vilify Eeyore who, to my knowledge, was always a lovable, albeit, depressive character. Furthermore, on the one hand, Hoff criticizes China's authoritarian government and on the other, he praises them, saying "these people know something" when referring to the country's tree planting policy. Perhaps it isn't that the Chinese are so wise and forward thinking that they know to instill tree-planting into children's hearts but rather that China has some of the worst desertification problems on this planet and that the Gobi Desert grows by the size of three Englands a year! Don't buy Hoff's political rants either because a few of his opinions are uninformed. Lovers of the Tao of Pooh, be forewarned, this does not deserve to be called its companion book. After I completed the Te of Piglet, I found it hard to take anything from Hoff seriously again. Aside from lacking the spirit of Taoism, the book is just plain disorganized. I am still wondering, "what was the point of all that?"
Piglet on meds.........2007-08-08
I didn't find this book as lovable as Tao of Pooh. Piglet while seemingly an ideal model to learn the Te from there is alot more ranting and raving then the simple lessons from Pooh. Maybe Piglet needs a change in his prescriptions.
take the time to read this one too!.......2007-06-27
Another great book by Benjamin Hoff and a perfect accompaniment to the Tao of Pooh, his first book of these 2. Like the other, I continually buy this book just to find myself gifting it away and then buying another copy for myself so that I can continue to re-read it. Always an inspiration.
Love It!.......2007-05-07
Just finished reading "The Tao of Pooh" and am halfway through this one. As a lover of the Winnie the Pooh books (and children's stories in general) and a more simple, happy way of life, I am thoroughly enjoying this book and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a little help in trying to live life differently, more simply, more easily and, by default, more happily!
Great Read.......2007-03-24
I read the Toah of Pooh years ago so I powered thru this, I am always interested in the outlooks of other spritualities. 5 stars!!!!

Learning to count to 10 is no chore when accompanied by Olivia, piglet superstar of Ian Falconer's Caldecott Honor Book, Olivia, and Olivia Saves the Circus. Preschoolers will giggle to see reminders of Olivia's mischief in this simple counting book: "one ball, two bows, three pots of paint"... on up to "ten Olivias," pictured in various familiar poses: trying on pantyhose, standing on her head, earnestly jumping rope, sunbathing, etc. Each sturdy page of this small, square board book provides a backdrop of white on which our black and white porcine heroine struts, with occasional red accessories. Early learners will also enjoy Olivia's Opposites. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter

Another Great Olivia Book.......2007-03-17
This one is so cute! I gave it to my daugher for her birthday and it's exceptional!
My daughter loves Olivia.......2007-02-21
Olivia is a great book and since my daughter and Olivia have alot in common she likes it when I read them to her.
nice book.......2007-02-11
nice, and we love olivia, but it was a tiny bit of a letdown because this is mostly just regurgitated drawings from the original olivia book paired with numbers 1-10. nevertheless, if you can find a cheap copy, it's a fine addition to a kid's book collection.
Olivia counts a great book for children.......2007-01-11
I think that "Olivia counts" is a great book for children under 2-3 years. I'm a huge fun of Ian Falconer, I love all Olivia's books. This one is a different kind, it teaches your kids to learn how to count, but with the beautiful pictures of Olivia and the great creativity of Ian Falconer.
Super book.......2007-01-11
If your child is learning to count and loves the Olivia books this is perfect.

Olivia knows all about opposites. Sometimes this porcine heroine of Ian Falconer's Caldecott Honor Book, Olivia, is "plain," attired only in red briefs. Other times she is "fancy," with high-heeled dress-up shoes, lipstick, pearls, and a big red bow. Sometimes-when Olivia is running the circus, for example (Olivia Saves the Circus)--she is very "loud" with a lion, which renders the lion rather "quiet." Whether meeting this energetic and incorrigible piglet for the first or the 100th time, readers of all ages will be happy to watch Olivia do pretty much anything, even something as simple as counting (Olivia Counts) or teaching about opposites. This sturdy little board book, with lots of white space and black-and-white illustrations, splashed with occasional red, is a perfect introduction to the concepts of opposites, from "up" and "down" to the "open" and "closed" mouth of our yawning, pajama'd pig at the conclusion. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter

disappointed.......2007-05-07
I think this is more suited for a one year old not a 3 year old. It is too simple and basic for the older kids. But, we do love Olivia.
Olivia's Opposites, an inteligent book.......2007-01-11
I like very much this book, it's a small book for children under 3 years, It teaches in a original way how to recognize some opposites, with beautiful pictures of Olivia.-
Super book 2.......2007-01-11
Another great Olivia book. My daughter loves saying opposite words now because of this book.
Masterful Olivia Performance........2006-12-05
I can't explain the somewhat tepid reviews for this board book. It is compelling, a must-read you will not be able to put down (unless of course you are acting out the "down" page). You owe it to your toddler to get this book for bedtime, if only to puzzle out exactly how to explain "plain" and "fancy" to a two and a half year old. Good luck and enjoy!
-Fred
Another fun Olivia experience.......2006-03-24
My one-year old chooses this book to have read to her all the time. She especially loves the Quiet-Loud and Open-Close opposites, but you can have fun with all of them.

The Stranger, who appeared in Winnie-the-Pooh on Management, returns to the Hundred Acre Wood to explain to Pooh and his friends the SOLVE Problem- Solving Method, a step-by-step system of identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems. Pooh, and you, learn all the principles of practical problem solving, which can be applied as easily to rescuing Tigger from high up in a tree as to the many challenges that are part of today's complex business world.
Customer Reviews:
Basic -- But Right On Point.......2000-06-12
All to often problem solving becomes a team exercise where each member "shares their ignorance (of the essence of the problem)" while searching for a solution. Having a systematic approach to define, research, select alternatives, implement, control, and encourage feedback is a better way to reach a successful solution. This little book provides a fun guide suitable for the novice in problem solving techniques. I found the book to be entertaining yet helpful, especially for my strategic planning clients.
Good approach, and easy to understand.......1998-11-30
Great way of making pooh's likfe look like ours. It shows us how simple life can be, and how much and how little things matter. Great book, easy to understand.

I purchased the tape and found it to be most disappointing.
I would not recommend this book (nor the tape) to anyone.

Is there such thing as a Western Taoist? Benjamin Hoff says there is, and this Taoist's favorite food is honey. Through brilliant and witty dialogue with the beloved Pooh-bear and his companions, the author of this smash bestseller explains with ease and aplomb that rather than being a distant and mysterious concept, Taoism is as near and practical to us as our morning breakfast bowl. Romp through the enchanting world of Winnie-the-Pooh while soaking up invaluable lessons on simplicity and natural living.
Book Description
One of the world's great Taoist masters isn't Chinese, or a venerable philosopher, but is in fact none other than A. A. Milne's effortlessly calm, still, reflective bear Winnie-the-Pooh. While Eeyore frets and Piglet hesitates and Rabbit calculates and Owl pontificates, Pooh just is. And that's the clue to the secret wisdom of the Taoists.
Customer Reviews:
Non Fiction.......2007-09-03
A complete waste of time. I suppose it is a whimsical idea to use Pooh to explain the version of philosophy that you favor. Others might term this exploitative. In fact, there is probably a comic in there somewhere, The Revenge of Pooh, where pragmatic realistic toys with weapons come and kick the stuffing out of wacko writers.
What a great book.......2007-08-27
If you only read two books this year, this and "The Te of Piglet" should be those.
wonderful, insightful book..........2007-08-08
I found this to be a simply delightful read. It was easy to comprehend and get through. Whoever thought that Pooh might one day come back and enlighten me as much as he entertained me as a kid growing up.
Interesting concepts.......2007-08-04
I learned of this book through my truck insurance auto person in Minnesota. He told me of this book and I bought it and thought it had some great insites on life. They were always there but Pooh brings them out in a way that makes me think farther into it. Really good. PSM
Cottelston, Cottelston, Cottelston Pie .......2007-06-29
"What did you think of the book?" "What book?" asked Pooh. "The Tao of Pooh," replied William. "The who of me." "Yeah, that was a chapter. Did you like it?" "How could you not like a book about a bear?" Pooh said proudly. "That was how I felt," William confirmed.
A wonderful little book that not only introduces one to the thoughts of Taoism but also shows you how a clear mind without worry can make your life better. Don't be a Bisy Backson. Pick up this book and sit down and enjoy it. That's the whole point, right?
Book Description

Customer Reviews:
My son liked it.......2006-11-05
We read a lot to my kids, so this book gives me a little break now and then and reads for me. The CD helped my 2-year old son follow along quite well without me telling him when to turn pages. The stories are cute and well read.
Pooh and Tigger too!.......2006-07-05
Both child and parent friendly. Nice pictures. 4 stories. Excellent! My godson and his siblings adore it!
Addicted!.......2005-12-08
This is some of the best money I ever spent. My soon-to-be three-year old son is absolutely addicted to this cd! He wants it in the playroom, in the car, at his friends' houses, in his bedroom when he's sleeping... I think we have listened to it almost non-stop since I purchased it over a month ago. He also asks to read the stories several times a day. He has even decided to change his birthday theme from trucks to Pooh.
My complaints about it are that, although the narrator's voice is quite soothing, all of the narration is done by the same person and there are no sound effects or music in the background. Also, there aren't chimes for turning the pages. And, beware...it takes at least 30 min. to read one of these very long stories! But this is my adult criticism. The set is obviously perfect to the ears of a little boy.
Customer Reviews:
Very nice combined version of the originals.......2007-01-11
It's the two separate publications combined ... duh. I bought these way back when, so I have the separate harcover editions, but I bought this one as a gift for someone who had never read either. If your main purpose is reading and not collecting this is an inexpensive and simple way to get both in one shot. If you've never read them, well you must. No excuses. Whether you're interested in Taoism or not these books have some great little kernels of wisdom and truth for all beliefs and walks of life.
A little basic........2006-08-15
This is a nice easy introduction to Taoism but I feel the analogy between Tao and Pooh Bear is a little bit of a stretch. Pooh bear is really just an aloof and naive but very cute character for a kids book, yet Taoism is a philospophy/religion that has had thousands of years of evolution and change. Nevertheless its a nice easy going read but for something with a little more guts I still like "Talking Zen" by Allan Watts. The similarities between Zen Buddhism and Taoism seem to be quite mutual by chance or by design and Allan Watts talks at lenghth about Taoism. Benjamin Hoff is a little off in some his assumptions also, stating that Buddhism is all about dispair and suffering and that is why the Buddha has a sour look. Actually that is a very lay view, and the Buddha usually has a smile on his face because he has reached true happiness by understanding the essence of suffering. There is a big difference.

Customer Reviews:
WONDERFUL BED-TIME STORY - A WELL DONE LITTLE BOOK........2007-09-15
Piglet has lost her mom and starts her search. This is a wonderful little bed-time or read along story for the little ones. The art work by Stephen King is great and the text by Margaret Wild is easy to follow. Piglet, in her quest for her "lost" mom encounters various barnyard critters such as a duck, dog, horse, can and several others. All these friendly animals try to make piglet feel better in offering her different activities such as the horse who asks her to dance in the daffodils. Piglet of course just wants her mom. The story is cute, kids seem to like it and it is fun to read to the little ones. With the well done pictures, great text and nice story, what more could you want. Recommend this one highly.
precious story about how there's no one like Mama.......2007-04-26
While you shouldn't be tricked into buying a book by the cover, this one did for me! The illustration on the front of the two cute pigs was just too adorable to pass up. The story is about a Piglet looking for her Mama and while she finds other animal Mamas on her search, they just aren't HER Mama. Heartwarming bedtime tale.
If you have a little one that loves their Mama.......2007-01-11
This book is so adorable and is a must if you have a little one that just LOVES their Mama so much.
Adorable story.......2006-03-07
This book is about a little piglet that has lost his mother. He goes around looking for her, encountering other animals along the way that invite the piglet to join them in some sort of activity. The piglet only wants her mama. When she finds her mama, they enjoy all of the activities together ending up taking a nap snuggled up together. This is an adorable book to read with your child. My 20 month old daughter, snuggles up beside me before bed while I read it to her.

Customer Reviews:
Good activity for alone time.......2007-08-12
My 4yo dd got this package about a month ago. She has really enjoyed sitting in her room and "reading" these books by herself. She won't sit through all three stories, but she will sit through the first two. This alone time gives me about a half-hour where I can get other projects done around the house.
At night, some nights, my daughter insists on listening to the CD while falling asleep. The voice for the reading is very calming. The beeps to signal to turn the page are obvious, but not annoying. I think that's why she wants to listen while falling asleep.
My daughter has never seen any of these movies, but she knows who Pooh Bear, Roo, and Piglet are. She does enjoy these books. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars, though, is because I think the CD should include the version of each story where there aren't any beeps. The CD only has the 3 tracks for the 3 stories. It would have been nice to have the stories replayed without the beeps.
Storage box needs work.......2007-01-11
The three star review is for the packaging material only. The disk is NOT held securely in the package, and slid around quite a bit during transportation. Once the box is opened, you have to find a cd holder to store the cd in.
The cd and books are fantastic - five star worthy. Both my children (5 and 2) enjoy "reading" with these books to the point they will disappear into their rooms for hours. We have bought several sets of these cd/books over the past few years and are very pleased with the quality. The children like hearing the characters and song snippets, and being prompted to turn the page when it is time.
