I love Three Dog Bakery.......2007-07-03
I love what these guys have done with the dog treat industry. This book had more of a story to it rather than just recipes.
Canine Cuisine.......2005-09-08
I saw a show on Food Network about the Three Dog Bakery and found out about their cookbook. I have 4 dogs, a sheltie, a toy pomeranian, a st.bernard/retriever mix, and a "heinz 57", they all love it when I spend the day in the kitchen cooking. My favorite form of relaxation !! There is an invisible line they do not cross between the dining room and the kitchen, so all 4 will sit at the line and wait for a treat... they don't really understand but now they get a lot more treats than before and it only took a couple of times with the new "doggie treat" jar for them to all sit, with tails wagging and tongues hanging out waiting for the dog friendly and healthy treats... The treats are easy to make, most of the ingredients are readily available in my kitchen and they store well... I collect cookbooks and this one has moved to a prominent place on the shelf...
Interesting only if you want to start a similar firm.......2004-12-21
This book is mostly an entrepreneurial autobiograhy, interesting only if you want to start a similar firm or know the owners personally. The writing style is annoyingly self-congratulatory. There are only a handful of recipes. If you have a bit of baking skill, you can easily come up with better ones on your own. My dog and I received this book as a gift along with some treats from the Three Dog Bakery. The treats were great; the book is not. I wouldn't recommend it as a gift.
Great entrepreneurial yarn.......2003-10-25
Like everyone else, I loved the story of this family, men and dogs, and how they came to build their business. It was a true American entrepreneurial tale, and I'm glad they've had success. The descriptions of the dogs were also compelling.
I have to admit, though, that I've tied several of the recipes, and my dog never cared much for the results. The ginger snaps in particular seemed inedible to him. I've made many other dog biscuits for him using recipes from other places and out of the newspaper that sent him over the moon.
If you don't plan to use the recipes, I highly recommend this book. It is a wonderful story and well written.
What an inspirational story!.......2003-07-17
I really liked this book and have read it twice. Some parts of it were humorous. In short, I recommend this book to all dog lovers and owners!

Book Description
On Halloween day, Hank comes to school dressed as a table in an Italian restaurant. Nick McKelty, the resident school bully (dressed in a total blood-and-guts costume), thinks Hank's costume is wimpy and that Hank wouldn't know how to be scary and gross if his life depended on it! So Hank decides to create the scariest haunted house ever, and plans to invite McKelty over and show him what scary really is. The only problem is that Hank's dog, Cheerio, is scared of Hank's haunted house. So scared, in fact, that when Hank tries to find him, he's nowhere in sight! Have Hank's Halloween hijinks gone too far?

Book Description
In this exuberant new picture book, Lois Ehlert takes us on a trip to the farmers market with a group of friendly, furry, and (mostly) well-behaved pups. And when the shopping's done, the gang heads to the dog park for some serious playing.
Readers will be wowed by the gorgeous collage illustrations, subtle counting elements, jaunty text, and--best of all--dogs galore!
Includes a spread that features pictures, names, and traits of all the dogs, so children can go back and follow their favorites throughout the story.
Customer Reviews:
Bow wow wow!.......2007-04-25
It's not often I review a book for the world's littlest listeners, but Ehlert's "Wag a Tail" took hold of my imagination and wouldn't let go.
As fitting for a 1-to 3-year-old audience, "Wag a Tail" doesn't suffer from too much plot. In fact, nothing much actually happens. Dogs go to the market. They proclaim "We are cool." They break some rules. They "never drool." At the end of the "story," they frolic in a dog park, outdoing one another with silly dog tricks.
So what's so special about "Wag a Tail," then? The illustrations. They are vibrant, stunning, and child-friendly. Ehlert uses fuzzy felt-like collage to create her dogs and their passive, non-speaking people. She chose deep, jewel-like colors on a background of green; color choices unique in the preschool market. When I read this aloud to a six-year-old, he kept touching the pages, saying "this book looks like it should be lumpy." It sure does.
Ehlert's dogs, though created from pieces of felt and bits of button, are lifelike and recognizable. (All sixteen dogs are afforded a short bio on the inside back cover. My favorite is Lucky, the Scottish Terrier.) The dogs are mischievous , brazen, and ready for fun. Any toddler would approve.
"Wag a Tail" is the type of book you'll catch your toddler browsing through (maybe upside down?) on her own in a corner. Don't miss it. "Bow wow wow."

Customer Reviews:
The most comprehensive book on Westies out there.......2007-04-11
If you are serious about Westies, you absolutely MUST have this book. Faherty has a writing style that's humorous and informative, and she gives the nitty-gritty on the mysterious art of handstripping. No other resource out there gives this much detail. I've taken the plunge and am stripping my own Westie, and Faherty's comprehensive chapter on grooming has been a tremendous help. This book is really geared for Westie connoisseurs, who have an interest in showing their dogs. In addition to the grooming chapter, several sections are devoted to the art of showing your dog as well as breeding. This may be too dense a book for a general pet owner and the more general Westie books may be more appropriate. However, if you are looking for THE resource on Westies, buy this book!
A great book.......2007-03-13
Every dog enthusiast, westie lover or not, should read this book, because even though it talks about westies, one can learn a lot about dogs in general. I have more than 15 years of experience in showing dogs and more than 12 years of professional grooming experience and I still learned a lot from this well written, very detailed and comprehensive book.
Essential for your West Highland White Terrier Library.......2007-03-09
Westies:From Head to Tail 2nd Edition is a most readible, comprehensive treatment of all topics of concern to both Westie breeders and neophytes to the breed. No serious Westie enthusiast should be without this attractive volume.
well informed book .......2006-02-17
MUST HAVE PUBLICATION FOR ALL WESTIE OWNERS,VERY INFORMATIVE AND WELL WRITTEN BY RUTH FAHERTY ENJOYED THE HISTORY OF THE BREED SECTION,IT HAS BEEN A REAL ASSET FOR US IN GETTING OUR TWO ADDITIONS TO OUR FAMILY,NICKY-TAM AND RORY,HAVE BENEFITED FROM THE GUIDANCE THIS BOOK GAVE US.
a bum steer from amazon.......2005-08-28
This is a great book for people who plan to breed West Highland White terriers, but as the owner of a six-month-old Westie I'm finding it worthless with the exception of the author's charming introductory remarks about the breed. There's no practical advice on training and far more advice than any typical pet owner is looking for with respect to breeding and whelping. The section on grooming is almost ludicrously intimidating. I simply cannot believe the deceptive reviews I read here.

Great art work.......2006-03-16
What a darling book about a Japanese Chin and his adventures. The art work is wonderful. Although it is officially a children's book, I appreciate it for the art work and the cute extra details put into the book. If you love dogs you will love this book, especially if you know about the Japanese Chin breed.
Amazing book for children of all ages.......2005-11-01
This is a must-have book to add to your holiday shopping for children of any age. My 6 year old and 3 year old boys have an extreme love for all sort of dogs and instantly fell in love with Henley. We hope Henley and the author will make more journeys together.

Customer Reviews:
BORN WITHOUT A TAIL.......2007-10-01
An energetic page-turner that catches the reader by surprise. What seems, at first, to be a simple memoir about pets becomes an astounding love story about commitment and responsibility in the face of insurmountable obstacles. Ironically, Cayr Ariel Wulff's riveting adventures with animals - some hilarious, some heartbreaking - become lessons in what it means to be truly human.
Born Without a Tail.......2007-09-29
For animal lovers, these paw pal tales will resonate. It is clear the author has a deep love and regard for the critters who strayed into her life as well as those she deliberatedly invited in to share hers.
Born Without A Tail.......2007-08-23
"Born Without A Tail" is an easy read yet, thoroughly absorbing. I haven't read anything that so lucidly individuates each of the author's critters since "Call of the Wild". This book is difficult to put down but easy to pick-up where you left off. Animals are people, too. Don't believe it? Suggest you read this book. I hated that it ended. I think that says it all.
Born Without A Tail.......2007-06-26
This book is a first rate read. Filled with very interesting tales of real life tails, the book held my interest from the first paragraph until the last. It left me wanting to read more about this wonderful family.
Born Without A Tail.......2007-06-25
A remarkable read! Born Without a Tail has appeal for readers both young and old. The book's stories of animal rescue experiences range from comical to tragic, enlightening the reader to the complexities of animal advocacy. A natural storyteller, Wulff reveals the personalities of her ever changing menagerie with such clarity that the reader feels a personal connection to each. Three cheers for Wulff and the tales of her furry friends!

Customer Reviews:
My K Class Loved This Book.......2003-05-04
Every year a leprechaun visits my classroom. This year she/he left this book. The kids loved it. They felt sorry for the dog and predicted what might happen between the unlikely pair. We talked about the leprechaun's demeanor and feelings. The thing that i heard about most with this book was that "Lucky," the dog, was a girl! This is a very big deal with 5 & 6 year-olds...especially the girls! This book is perfect for St. Paddy's units or getting in the mood for the holiday and talk of wee folk. The illustrations are charming as well.
Magical!.......2001-09-04
This is a wonderful tale of the unlikely friendship between a lovable dog and a crusty old leprechaun. My almost nine year old daughter loved the pictures in this book.
A wonderful tale of friendship.......2001-07-31
My daughter loves this heart-warming tale of a cautious leprechaun and his unlikely friendship with an outgoing dog named Lucky. Perfect bedtime reading any time of year.
An original, engaging story with vivid, colorful artwork!.......2000-07-14
The Luckiest Leprechaun is the delightful, hilarious, and thoroughly entertaining tale of friendship between a Leprechaun and a big shaggy dog. Justine Korman's original and engaging story is perfectly showcased by Denise Brunkus's vivid and colorful artwork. The Luckiest Leprechaun is enthusiastically recommended for young readers at home, in school, or at the library.
Were they serious?.......2000-06-23
Yet another awful kids' book. No story, no plot, cheesy illustrations, no moral. Just mindless. If you care for your kids, get them something with meaning, not this rainy day junk.

A great idea but doesn't make it.......2007-05-13
I loved the idea of this book, but I was amazed at how glamorious the author made some of the places I know very well. She does give good advice about watering holes & information as to when pets are welcome & when they are not. However, the book just lacked reality of life and socializing a dog. I felt like I had wasted my money on information I already new.
Great Resource!.......2007-01-05
This book was just what I was looking for -- a concise directory of many dog-friendly parks and towns throughout NJ and all compiled by county for easy reference. It contained more entries than I could have even imagined and I'm determined to travel to as many locations as I can!
