A Great Guidebook.......2007-05-13
This book is a great handbook for anyone who wants to learn how to communicate with animals. Carol is the founder of HeartTalk and blends story with techiques to help you learn animal communication. I've read many different communication books--Carol is one of the leaders in the world of animal communicators and I can recommend this book without hesitation. If you get a chance and are seriously interested in developing your skills don't miss her workshops.
Intriguing.......2007-03-09
What a fascinating subject... This book reminds me of another favorite, "Adam's Task: Calling Animals by Name," by Vicki Hearne, which also focuses on communicating with animals. It combines animal training with philosophy, linguistics, and literary criticism. The Atlantic Monthly called it "A fascinating and often surprising discussion of animal-human encounters." If you are an animal trainer-- or even just an animal lover-- it's definitely worth checking out.
Good Learning Tool.......2005-10-26
Carol Gurney's book is an excellent place to start if your goal is to actually gain an ability to communicate with animals. She does a great job of explaining her methods and of giving "for instances" and exercises to build the reader's confidence. Follow this book with Learning Their Language by Marta Williams.

The Language of Animals: 7 steps to Communicating with Anima.......2003-09-07
Very informational. Her techniques really do help communicate with our companions.
a little too "touchy feely".......2003-04-28
What I liked about the book was that it gave me validations on some "communications" I've received from my dogs. Their communication came to me the way she said they could. Their thought or opinion just flashed into my brain from their brain. They don't have to be looking at you; thoughts from them just come, like she says in her book. She says to be "open" to your animal, to let them "say" whatever they want. I did this, and one of my adopted strays brought up things like "I've had a hard life" and "I had to run from cars a lot". When I asked my other dog about her previous life (also a rescue dog) she said "I was bad", meaning she fought w/the other household dogs.
Now, my husband would say that I picked up these things because of prior information I may have already known about them, or was obvious. But after reading her book, I don't think so...
I also liked how she taught us how to communicate with our minds to our animals, explaining things clearly to them. The dogs act like they aren't paying attention, but they are-- just like she says in her book.
I don't have the time or patience to "meditate" for long periods, as she recommends, in order to reach your "center" where you can communicate w/animals. That part seemed a little too touchy feely.
I am glad I read this book, and glad that I have it on my bookshelf. It had some helpful "tidbits" and the examples of what SHE did were interesting to read but don't think it is practical enough to recommend. I certainly don't feel like I can go out and understand the thoughts of animals because I read this book, but maybe it's because I'm not willing to put in all the "touchy feely" time that may be needed to do it. However, it did give me a few tips for communicating w/my own dogs.

Another great book from Sonya!.......2006-03-07
This is another great book from Sonya! It has helped me understand the animal world much better. Thanks to her book I am now able to better understand my cats and the animals around me. I help my family and friends with their animal problems now. I am very thankful to Sonya for helping me to better understand the world from an animal's point-of-view. I have no doubt that people can communicate with animals telepathically. If you are truly open to the idea, want to communicate with your pets, and have a true love for animals, then you can develop your ability to communicate with animals. Sonya tells in her book about the many animals she has encountered over the years; by telling people of these stories she has opened up the reader to what animals are like and how they perceive us. This book is truly a must for pet owners in order to better understand their animal companions. She tells ways to effectively get through problems that a person might be having with his/her pet and then gives helpful tips to help remedy the situation. The stories she tells apply to every pet owner. In the book, she has covered almost every animal you could possibly have. I recommend this book to anyone who has pets or works with animals. I give it five stars! Sonya truly is a gift from God!
Good Book for all Cats Lover!.......2003-12-29
I really enjoyed this book, it make you understand more how cats think. It a great book for all cats lover.
A good book for cat parents.......2003-10-27
As a cat person who enjoyed Sonja's book "What the Animals Tell Me", I was looking forward to reading this book. I was not disappointed.
In this book, Sonja gives more details about how to communicate with animals and a lot of practical cat care advice. She fills in the gaps left in her life story by the previous book. There are, of course, stories about the cats Sonja has worked with. My favorite is the story of Rosie, a hungry, frightened, pregnant kitty rescued by Sonja's husband, Fitz, who is evidently as much of an animal over as she is. This book would be most appreciated by cat lovers who are open to the possibilities of interspecies communication.

Excelent... but, is harder than it seems!.......2002-06-20
Excelent pictures, writing, and presentation. However I think it would be much more interesting to invest in the main matters and not so much in tricks.
I would give 5 stars if the method of administering medication were explained more fully, as well as cleaning hears, bathing, etc...

Terrific book!.......2001-03-21
I found this book extremely helpful. I had been looking for information on my cat's behavior problems, specifically litter box avoidance and furniture scratching, and the other books I'd tried either didn't have much information or were poorly organized, making it hard to find the info I needed. However, Communicating With Your Cat was well organized and well written, with lots of helpful information and suggestions on behavior problems. Not only does the author cover how to deal with behavior problems, but goes into a lot of detail about why they occur, so I understood what was happening and why. The book really improved my understanding of how my cat thinks. I could tell the author really cares about cats, and her suggestions worked -- Squeak scratches on her cat tree now and uses her litter box! Lots of other interesting information, too -- I particularly liked the chapters on how to develop a bond with your cat, the origins of cats, and the cat's senses. Lots of great photos and illustrations, too.
The book is a bargain. I give it five stars. Everyone owned by a cat should have this book!
A Must Have for Cat Owners.......2001-03-12
Helgren did a wonderful job of describing the evolution of the cat and how nature selectively created the breed of the domestic cat that is uniquely capable of loving humans just as much as we love them. The book describes cat behavior and teaches us to translate a simple meow into a meaningful sentence that we can use to establish a meaningful relationship with out feline friends. If you have ever wondered why your cats do the things they do, reading this book will explain it. Many color photos and step by step training included.

In Communicating with Animals, veteran reporter Arthur Myers explores the phenomenon of human-animal communication in hundreds of case studies. Readers will learn the history of animal communication, compelling evidence of animal reincarnation, and how to use their untapped mind power to form psychic links with animals.

If only they could talk........2006-12-01
It's true.A communication is not only between men and animals,it's also between animals themselves. They have idiomatic expressions with the tails, the heads and so on.
There are animals that can even talk!! my Hara does.If he scream, you'll loose your sense of hearing for three days.
If only they could talk and defend themseves, who knows how many malicious people would be sentenced over what they did to animals and children.
A must have for animal lovers.......2003-04-10
Art Myers has done it again! I am a fan of Art Myers work in both fiction and non-fiction, and this book is a must have for animal lovers everywhere. Art has put a lot of research, time, energy and thought into the spiritual aspect of communicating with our animals, and has come up with a fantastic book!
Thank you Art!
Should be on every animal lover's wish list.......2003-03-01
A must read for every animal enthusiast. They should put it on their wish list, and tell their friends. Opens up a whole new world of communicating with our pets on a subliminal basis. The animals will thank you, and they will definitely appreciate the concern and effort made on their behalf. I loved it; hard to put down! Arlene Millman, author of BOOMERANG - A MIRACLE TRILOGY (The tale of a remarkable Boston Terrier).
This is a MUST HAVE........2003-02-01
My curiosity with Animal Communication lead me to pick up Arthur Myer's book on communicating with animals. It is a must have for anyone interested, curious, and even skeptical on the whole subject. Myer has more or less written on his investigation with so-called communicators; their stories, their techniques, and has left it up to his reader's to believe or not to believe. This is the foundation for anyone opening their eyes to this world. Though it is not written to "teach" you animal communication, it certainly sheds light on the subject enough that will encourage you to desire to learn more.
Let the spirit be with you!.......2002-09-03
This was a book that raised my curiosity in the introduction then pulled me further within it many fascinating chapters on the world of communicating with animals. It was well written and researched book full of detailed documented cases, with tips from all the experts laced throughout make it a must have volume I feel for any serious animal lover, veterinarian or scientist wishing to gain more insight into the spiritual nature of the other living creatures.

Book Description
In the universe of whales, orcas are definitely stars. Beautiful, graceful, friendly, awesome in their size, strength and intellect, they amaze everyone who sees them. Yet with all the fame, the study and the interest, orcas remain fundamentally mysterious. What if you could ask them what you would most like to know and have them answer you directly?
You can, and they did.
Communicating with Orcas - The Whales' Perspective is the true story of an amazing journey into the unknown world of orcas by two curious and dedicated women. Written by a respected whale naturalist and professional animal communicator, Mary J. Getten, takes the reader on a voyage with her and a colleague. Together they use their telepathic skills and communication abilities to interview wild and captive orcas including Granny, a 90 year old whale the scientists call J2.
This is a book like no other. It is a captivating story of an encounter between two open-minded, seeking women with a wise elder who calls them her daughters, even when she is describing the horrendous whale captures of the 60's and 70's. It explores the many mysteries of orca life, providing some answers and suggesting many areas for future research. It is a moving description of a close family group, where all members travel, work, eat, play and even sleep as a family. Most of all, it takes you inside their world allowing you to see things from their perspective and to understand another way of life - the orca way.

Telling it like it is!.......2007-06-27
The book came within 5 days Yeah!!! It was in perfect condition. This is a great read!
Time to suspend judgement.......2006-11-01
This is well worth the read if only to gain information about the pods of Orcas that are resident around the San Juan Islands. But well beyond that, whether or not one accepts the author's ability to communicate with the orcas, what she relates about the wisdom of whales (primarily Granny, the 90+year old leader of J pod) is a wake-up call for humanity.
Makes for fascinating reading........2006-10-15
Whale naturalist and animal communicator Mary Getten goes beyond what other research has achieved in the way of whale study and communication processes: in 1991 she studied the J-Pod, a family of whales off Washington State. Her contention that they use direct telepathic communication between themselves and can do so with humans also makes for fascinating reading.

Communicating With Orcas - The Whales Perspective.......2006-09-08
I found this book amazing. I'm from Michigan and we "Michiganders" tend to think about lakes not oceans. This book opened my eyes to a new way of thinking about the world. It also made me start to think about the oceans creatures in more than just a "far away" way. If you do believe in animal communiation you will find this book to be a wonderfully different type of perspective. If you think animal communication is a "bunch of nonsense" this book may seem really strange to you, but it also makes you start to think "What if the whales do think, What if other animals think, what would they think of us and our running, running rather than enjoying and loving life" I highly recommend this book to all!!
Can you believe?.......2006-08-06
This book contains some 25 chapters of a woman and a female Orca communicating telepathically. It changed my entire perspective on animal intelligence, and opened me to greater human possibilities that I had been denying but now know are possible.
So dont listen to the nay-sayers. Pick up this book and decide for yourself what you really think about this phenomenon.

Book Description
The Philadelphia Inquirer's reviewer called this book's previous edition "...the best canine behavior-correction book I've ever read." This brand new slightly enlarged edition is even better, with information n how dog owners can test their pet's "IQ", and instructions for teaching a dog to respond to twenty basic words. Author Ted Baer emphasizes a humane approach to teaching canine obedience. Full-color photos throughout help to clarify training details.

Good dog training book.......2007-07-12
I have several dog training books, but this is the one I lend out to friends who have children, so that the friends and their kids can read it. The idea of using your dog's name as a lead to commands, and nicknames the rest of the time is worth the price of the book. For the 16 years of my Aussie's life, whenever she heard 'Kiri...', she would look at me expectantly, because she knew what would follow would be a command (sit, stay, etc) that she would understand, rather than the 'blah, blah, blah' when I chatted with her. Another great point was training the dog to hand gestures at the same time as verbal commands. For the last two years of her life, Kiri had hearing problems, and the hand gestures really helped there. This is also an interesting read, and not a particularly difficult one either. Appropriate for tweens with good reading skills and older.
Your Dog Will Thank You! (its worth every penny).......2003-12-24
If you really want to learn to communicate with your dog, this is an excellent book! I agree 100% with the other positive reviews in every way. When I bought this book, I had never trained a dog before. I was not only AMAZED at how quickly I was able to find a common language with my dog, but also at how many of the classic "A-ha!" moments that my dog and I mutually shared. With this book as my guide, my dog not only obtained her Canine Good Citizen Certification, but is now also a fully trained and liscenced Therapy Dog--a great honor and accomplishment and one step down from a working Service Dog! With a common language we are able to communicate wonderfully. Also, many of the commands can be combined to string along a fully functioning sentence which is always fun! I am often asked where I had my dog professionally trained and people are always impressed that I did it all myself. With a reasonable amount of intelligence, patience, and creativity, anyone can teach their dog the basic commands. True, the author is no comedian, but who cares.
FYI, some of the more advanced commands (such as 'jump') may at first seem 'ridiculous', but I have found when I need to tell my dog that I need her to get up into a car, or onto the scale at the vet, or even just to jump up on the bed to say goodmorning (which she knows she must have permission to do) its a lifesaver. I also can't live without the command 'leave it' (invaluable!) and if you are a puppy owner, the communication 'bells' worked so well for me that housetraining took under 2 weeks! My dog still uses the windchime I have hung on my back door to tell me that she needs to go outside--something I don't always pick up on if I am on the computer. I can't say enough good things about this book!
The best book to train and have a great dog........2003-09-04
This book promotes a consistant training program for everyone in the fmaily. You see results quickly if you are consistant with your dog. This book is also very effective in its use of positive reinforcement. I never hesitate to recommend it to a friend.
Simple - easy - powerful... get it!.......2003-07-15
This book is the best book I've seen on training a dog to be a great citizen of your home. It's not for the show dog/agility/retentive dog people so humorously portrayed in "Best in Show." This book teaches you, in order, the vocabulary you need to completely control your dog by voice command. This system keeps your dog from becoming confused by different people telling it to do different things in different ways with different expectations. It is absolutely amazing what you can do with your dog once you have taught it the "Twenty Magic Words" vocabulary that this book teaches.
Don't discount this books short length or seemingly simple language. It's a book about talking to dogs! Of course the vocabulary is simple. If I had to choose only one book on dog training, this would be it. Highly recommended.
Best Dog Training Book I've Seen.......2000-11-15
Uses a simple and extremely effective system of vocabulary to get you to understand how to train your dog. Correct expectations are set, with clear instructions on how to meet the goals you want to acheive with your dog. I've tried and tested this method with spectacular results. My dog is totally on voice control even in the presence of other dogs--the leash has been relegated to a merely legal and not a practical necessity. The best thing about this book is that you are taught how to help your dog succeed, and it really works if you stick to it.

Clear, Concise and Fun.......2004-04-13
Finally! a book that explores feline health, behavior and feline/human communication with intelligence, sensitivity and humor. I initially purchased the book searching for practical solutions to some behavioral problems we were experiencing with our family cat (they actually worked!) but learned much more about what our cat was trying to tell us in the process. The format makes the material incredibly accessible, and the quality of information makes this book a must-have resource for both the experienced and novice cat owner alike. It also makes a perfect gift for friends welcoming a new cat into their lives.
Fantastic Resource for Cat Caretakers.......2004-04-12
Practical, fun, and perceptive, Janine Adams' contribution to the "How to Say It" books is an invaluable resource for cat lovers everywhere. This book is chock-full of practical advice, invaluable resources and straight-forward descriptions, all in a delightful format. I particularly appreciate Ms. Adams' holistic, positive and caring approach - it is obvious that she loves and understand cats. 4 paws up!
Great Reader- and Cat-Friendly book, full of useful info.......2004-04-12
This book is full of valuable information and advice about understanding your cat. Each complete, yet short chapter covers a different issue or problem, with ideas on what your cat is trying to tell you, how you can best deal with the situation, and what problems and pitfalls to avoid.
There are more than 50 chapters to help you understand just about anything you might face with your cat. From litter box problems, to grooming, to hairballs, it's all covered! Adams offers great insights and a variety of options to solve problems and prevent them in the first place. Her advice is cat-friendly and helps you strengthen the bond with your favorite feline.
I've had cats my whole life, and this book is my new favorite resource when I have a question or concern about my two current cats. It's also a great book for the person new to cats. I have two copies -- one to loan out, and one to have on hand when I have a question myself.
An insult to anyone's intelligence.......2004-03-20
Not content to put words in cat's mouths, pet psychic-style, she introduces the lunacy of Bach flower remedies and the nonsense of Tellington Touch (what you and I call "petting) to compound a worthless book.
"How to Talk to Your Cat" by Jean Craighead George is more reliable. Or even Roger Caras' "A Cat is Watching"
If you want reliable information in this format try "100 Questions Your Cat Would Ask Its Vet" by Bruce Fogle.
