Danger At The Zoo.......2006-09-28
There was a girl who needed a job, so she applied to work at the zoo. She got the job a few days later. After she was working for a few days all of the workers food was gone or the food was missing. ( apples, bananas, crackers, ext...) So then all of the workers and the person who owns the zoo where keeping a eye out, but then they thought that someone broke in. Then they figured out that no broke in because there was no evidence. So then a few days later, at night, a few people stayed and found out that there where two homeless people that where living there because they didn't have no money. ( poor ) So now all of the people that work there are all happy!
Danger at the Zoo.......2006-05-03
When the American Girl company released the first American Girl Mysteries, nobody knew quite what to make of them. I must admit I'm glad this one is here!
The story begins when Mr. Gibson, the Cincinnati Register editor, gives Kit a corner of the Ladies' Page to write a children's column. Kit begins on this operation to write an article about the Zoo Guides boy scout program. As usual, she gets sidetracked when trouble arises at the zoo. The doors of the monkey house are unlocked night after night, a baby rhesus monkey is in danger of being stolen, and a strange tramp is lurking around the gates of the zoo. Kit and Stirling put the pieces together and discover that the monkey house is the target of a devious inner conspiracy that will endanger the lives of the monkeys and the well-being of the zoo.
Kit bursts onto the page with a slightly revised character (she is much more natural) and burns through the mystery while managing to stay sharp. The storyline is somewhat cheesy and unbelievable, but it is a good story nonetheless, and well written too.
A Wonderful Mystery for History Fans.......2005-09-16
The year is 1934, and ten-year-old Kit Kittredge is ecstatic when she lands a summer job with the local newspaper working on a Kids Column, for she'll finally be fulfilling her dream of being a real life newspaper reporter. The best part? She'll even be getting paid one dollar for every story that the paper publishes by her, which will really help her family during this time of the Great Depression. But when Kit begins snooping around the Cincinnati Zoo, gathering facts for her story about the Zoo Guides, she stumbles upon some very strange monkey business, that happens to be taking place right in the middle of the monkey house. Kit's nose for news tells her that she's onto something big. And she knows, with a bit more investigating, she'll definitely be able to get the scoop!
I have been reading the AMERICAN GIRL books since I was six-years-old, and I suppose I never grew out of them, for I adore delving into any new additions to the series, which is why I was ecstatic to discover the AMERICAN GIRLS MYSTERIES series. Kit has become my new favorite character in the AMERICAN GIRLS COLLECTION. Her nose for news, and her snoopy personality bring the short mystery to life, while her companions - her pal, Stirling, and Will, a local hobo - bring a wonderful spice to the story. The chapter of information about the Cincinnati Zoo is wonderful, and will teach young readers some unique information about the historical site. Overall, DANGER AT THE ZOO is a wonderful mystery story for middle readers who love historical fiction. And if you enjoy DANGER AT THE ZOO, I recommend checking out ANNA'S FIGHT FOR HOPE, a book about the Great Depression from the SISTERS IN TIME Series.

Kit's Reporting Career Begins.......2005-03-21
The best of the three American Girl mysteries I have read. If you can look past the "Mary Sue" convention that a newspaper editor like Mr. Gibson would even give a kid like Kit the time of day, this is a great story about Kit and Stirling investigating mysterious goings-on at the Cincinnati Zoo that threaten the employment of their friend Will, a hobo who knows he is not trusted by the local adults.
Filled with great tidbits about the zoo's past and also how the Kittredges and their boarders have to live, this is quite an interesting read. There's even a few lessons herein, but the author doesn't beat you over the head with them.
I hope the fact that the Pleasant Company people are now publishing mysteries featuring the American Girls doesn't mean they will abandon their History Mystery series where other girls from other eras get involved in mysteries. They are well-written and it's interesting to see what eras and what girls they pick.

Cougar or grizzly - I'll be prepared.......2005-04-01
I hope I never have to confront a grizzly bear or a cougar, but given there are grizzly bears near our ski condo and cougars have been seen in a local nature preserve I'm not taking chances.
You probably know the basics of hanging your food in a tree and not letting bears see your cooler in your car. This little book goes way beyond the basics. With a chapter per animal, it explains animal behavior and takes you through your options. You can find out whether a bear is predatory, how to select a campsite and what a cougar does before it pounces. Be careful of those buffalo in Yellowstone - it lists the other parks where you might find them too. It also tells you about javelinas - a risk I had never considered.
There is an excellent section on pepper spray. It has good statistics - like the weight of a moose or the number of people that die of rabies. Your odds of getting eaten alive are pretty low - but why take chances. As it says "Hiking in grizzly country is dangerous and that's all there is to it."
Read this book - the techniques for each animal are different.

good.......2005-03-10
Okay, sure this book was an interesting mystery, but NIGHTMARES? ok, that's not a common reaction, so ppl, don't, like, not buy thuis book because you think it'll be frightening, because it's not. In this book, Glory wins all of the races he's entered. Then, he wins some big race at the belmont by 16 lengths. They test him for drugs, and he ends up postitve. Of course, Whitbrook didn't drug him. So it ends up that someone is sneaking into the barn and drugging him so that he won't be any compettion, or to kill him. After a second time of Glory testing positive for drugs, Cindy sleeps in the barn. But while she's protecting Glory, she realizes, is she willing to risk her own life for his? Interesting book, messed up ending though.
I have never been a Cindy fan, but I love this book!.......2005-02-17
The Cindy and second generation eventing portions of the series were dark days for Thoroughbred. This book is an exception. I thoroughly enjoyed the intrigue and adventure contained in the story and would reccomend it to any young horse fan. The newest few Thoroughbred books have been even more exceptional. Just as we thought there was hope for the Thoroughbred series to be restored to its former glory Harper Collins has decided to end the series abruptly after #72. With such a dedicated following and online fan base with members from all over the world, this is a classic and beloved series that has inspired many people and provided horse fans with vicarious thrills and adventure. Ashleigh saved Wonder, now it's up to you to help save Thoroughbred. [...]

I've read this book so many times I think I know it off by heart. I still love it, even though some of the details are a little far-out. I just can't believe that Harper Collins is considering ENDING the TB series!!! I started reading these books when they first came out, and, even though I'm now 19, I still love to read them! Glory in Danger was an excellent book, really a great read!!!

Christina loved Dylan they were such a cute couple, and what about Katie I guess her "Best Friend" wasn't really her best friend because she just dissapeared. Cassidy even had her own book then another POOF! I know Cindy comes back in the later books but you cannot just make people dissapear. Um...and what about the horses Pride, Sierra, Shining, Glory, Champion, Honor, and soon I hear Sterling is just going to be sold! I mean COME ON STUPID AUTHORS READ THE OTHER FRIGGIN BOOKS!!!!! Also...I hate the way that from Without Wonder to Star in Danger there is THREE YEARS IN BETWEEN!
I mean they could have made a few books in between to say what happened to all of Christinas friends! The thing I like about the new series Wonders Legacy (YIPPEE!!!!)
is that they are getting back to racing I liked eventing but it wasn't as thrilling as racing so WHATEVER!

Star in Danger.......2001-12-28
When Ashleigh's Wonder died just days after giving birth to her last foal Christina's mother, Ashleigh, couldn't even bear to look at the orphaned colt. Christina had to bottle-feed him around the clock. That was when she named him Wonder's Star because of the white, heart-shaped star in the middle of his forehead. After adventures with a mischeivous goat, giving Star an 'identity problem' Christina and her father had to start all over to overcome the tiny foal's fear of other horses. And when Star was at last in the paddock with the other promising weanlings Christina hears Ashleigh eagerly closing a deal with Clay Townsend and his son Brad, half-owners of Star. Wonder's Star was being sent to Townsend Acres.
Christina has to say "good-bye" to her dreams of making Star her eventing horse and riding him in the olympics. There is no question about Star's future now--Brad is already training him to race. At first Christina had to admit that the yearling was getting good enough care at Townsend Acres. Before his 'training' begins. When Christina starts having trouble on cross-country with her mare, Sterling Dream, she makes the decision not to visit Star anymore. Maybe then she could concentrate on her dreams for the olympics...with STERLING. But when she and her cousin, Melanie, finally return to Townsend Acres Star has changed. He isn't groomed as often because everyone in the stable thinks he is vicious and agressive. Even Ashleigh remarks coldly that Star is becoming like Terminator, one of Whitebrook's stallions. Christina wants to regain Star's trust, and that means she has to be able to work with him. When Christina gets the opportunity to groom for Brad she knows she has to do anything for Star. But at the same time she is having trouble with her boyfriend, Parker. She always thought of them as just FRIENDS. Now she is afraid that they're becoming much more than that. She has to forget about everything for her event at Meadowlark. But then she gets the news that the head trainer is going to teach Star to carry a person on his back--TODAY. Christina knows Star isn't ready. But how can she convince anyone to see her side? Christina is positive that it's time to get Star HOME--at Whitebrook. Whether her parents like it or not!
