How to Keep Koi.......2007-03-14
Terrific book on Koi's, and a good book for my
collection on how to help me with my Koi's.
Four for now... probably five stars really !.......2006-08-11
We are starting to keep koi, and I have been shopping for a couple of good koi books but it's been tough going... most pet shops around here don't have much, and the bookshops don't either -- either they have books that are too simple, or too complex. There is a lot of detailed categorization and medical information available for the serious koi breeder, but for many of us, too much information is worse than too little. After a lot of research I settled on this title and one other, and I also upgraded to the complete online viewing edition of this title at amazon. Wow! This is a great book... there is clear and interesting text about the history of koi, how they are handled, their anatomy (with diagrams) and the different color patterns. The photos and pictures are lovely and clear as well. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in keeping koi, or even if you are just interested in looking at nice photos and learning about them. :-)

THE AFRICAN BATMAN?.......2007-08-18
THE BLACK PANTHER TIE IN WAS ONE I CHOSE TO BUY BASED PURELY ON A LIST HERE.VERY GLAD I DID.NOT A CRUCIAL PART OF THE STORY BUT GOOD TO SEE A NON AMERICAN STYLE STORY, EVEN IF NAMOR BRINGS US THAT ANGLE EVERY TIME HE POPS UP.WHICH IS A LOT, THIS IS NO EXCEPTION.PANTHER & STORM GO AROUND TRYING TO BE NICE TO EVERYONE ,BUT WHAT FUN WOULD THAT BE FOR A COMIC.NEVER KNOWN ABOUT BLACK PANTHER MUCH,BEING FAIRLY NEW TO COMICS AND ALL,BUT THIS SERIES WAS ALL ABOUT LEARNING THE PEOPLE OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE.AND THAT I HAVE.HOPE NO-ONE IS OFFENDED BY MY BATMAN REFERENCE BUT COME ON.IF IT WAS DARK HOW WOULD A BAD GUY STEALING A WOMANS PURSE REALLY KNOW THE DIFFERENCE????ANYWAY,GREAT SUPRISE TIE IN FOR ITS STORY, ACTION AND THE ALL IMPORTANT POLITICAL SIDE WHICH IS REALLY WHAT THE WHOLE GIANT SERIES IS ABOUT.QUICK..TO THE PANTHER CAVE!!
Great "Civil War" Tie-In.......2007-07-30
While this tie-in to the "Civil War" event isn't entirely necessary to understand the main story, it's filled with scenes that expand upon the "Civil War" series and infuse it with some much-needed humanity in the form of the Black Panther and his wife Storm. Hudlin, the President of Entertainment for BET television, doesn't write wall-to-wall action, so his "Black Panther" series isn't everyone's cup of tea...it just happens to be mine.
Meh...Black Panther in the Civil War.......2007-06-08
I haven't been very impressed with Reginald Hudlin's relaunch of Black Panther thus far, and his Civil War tie-in doesn't so much either. Now that King T'Challa, AKA the Black Panther, has married Storm; the two embark on a planet wide (and even beyond) tour doing meet and greets with plenty of familiar faces. In America though, T'Challa sees the results of the superhuman Civil War that is ravaging both hero and villain alike, and has a talk with pro-registration leader Tony "Iron Man" Stark himself. Naturally Tony wants T'Challa on his side, but he finds it wiser to stay out of the struggle between Iron Man and Captain America as the Civil War rages to cataclysmic results. If you've read the main Civil War storyline by Mark Millar, then you no doubt already know what side Black Panther picks and what kind of impact he has on the events at hand. This Civil War tie-in really does nothing of the sort to expand much of anything, and Hudlin's story is honestly pretty boring. The artwork is pretty good throughout this TPB, but overall there isn't anything we haven't seen before, and there isn't anything really vital to the overall effect of the Civil War. All in all, Black Panther: Civil War may be worth a look for hardcore Black Panther fans or Civil War collectors who need every TPB tie-in, but this is better left on the shelf.

Not Koi about information.......2007-08-23
A good intro ductory book on the hobby. More information about building the pond than an established koi keeper might like and not enough detail on their dietary habits.
Would recommend to anyone who needs koi help.
The Ultimate Koi.......2006-02-23
Helpful for understanding the types of koi and their origins; as well as care of koi. A good book for beginning koi keepers.

Cult of the Koi.......2002-07-21
Great book! Equally helpful for the novice and experienced Koi lover alike! Great pictures and detailed descriptions.I highly recommend this book.
Not much details, outdated.......2002-04-25
I don't think this is the best book on Koi. Although it covers all the standard topics (Koi identification, pond building, filtration system, diseasees, etc.), it does not give enough details in each topic. The "Tretra Encyclopedia Book of Koi" is by far the best . I know, it is not available for sale any more, but try to find it in a library. It is well worth the effort and you can save money as well.
Cult of Koi is the best I have seen!.......2000-05-16
The book is an excellent reference for beginners and experts as well. It gives a great overview of the history of Japanese, Domestic and German Koi. It gives an excellent
review of the different types of Koi that have help me a great deal in identification.
My local Dianichi and Sankaye Koi dealer also says that their consensus is that Cult of the Koi is by far the best they have ever seen.

Great book for the koi keeper.......2007-05-26
This is one of the best books that I have found on Koi. Beautiful color
photographs abound in this informative book. If you have to have only one book on Koi-this is the one. Lot of good advice on building a pond, what to do if there are problems such as illness, identifying fish pathogens and their treatment, different kinds of koi. I especially like the pictures of other people's ponds and landscaping-full of good ideas.
Good book-- but BE CAREFUL!.......2003-06-21
I lost half of my Koi in the space of 6 hours, because I was counting on this book, and it does not even mention the catastrophic disaster known as PH Crash. Unless you find out about that, and take preventative measures, this WILL happen to you!!
This book fails to describe water chemistry in sufficient detail, and these days it's pretty outdated. However, it does have a fantastic photo catalogue of koi varieties, and a decent overview of health problems, pond construction, and seasonal care. If you have fish, make sure to get multiple books in case one is missing important information.
This is the book.......2002-02-07
I have kept koi and bred them for around 5 years now. And when I pick up a koi book this always seems to be the first one I go to. As far as I'm concerned, if I had only one koi book this would be the one. If you're about to get into koi don't do it without the Tetra Encyclopedia of Koi.
All books should have such a high standard - kudos to tetra.......2000-09-20
Amazing. The only problem I had with this book is getting it out of my wife's hands. It covers EVERYTHING. Sections on Filtration, Pond design, Feeding (listing alternative foods that Koi enjoy), Anatomy (first rate), Selecting & showing your koi, a detail listing on the different patterns and scale formation and probably the best ( in my opinion) Parasites and Diseases, what they are, were they come from and how to destroy them.
This could be and should be renamed to "The koi instruction manual". If you are a koi breeders, I highly recommend this book, after reading it, I would wager that it would be THE book to recommend to your customers. The reason being that they would have less problems and get better enjoyment out of their hobby. It truly would be hard to go wrong with this book.
Wonderful & Enjoyable.......2000-01-26
This book is as easy to read as any grade school book and as indepth as books which I have read that cost 5 times as much. I have enjoyed reading it so much that the day after I was done reading it, I started reading it again. I own a nursery for watergardening plants, fish and supplies, and I highly recommend it.

very good for the price.......2004-09-13
If this were an expensive book, I wouldn't rate it so highly, but it has more information than you'd think for a cheap little paperback. The koi varieties section is mediocre, but you want a big glossy hardcover for that anyway, right? The advice on koi handling and transport is outstanding, with great emphasis on minimizing stress to your fish. There is also information on plants, something most koi keepers disdain to mention. Another reviewer thought the author was against wheat germ sticks for koi--he's not condemning them, just saying there's no proof they make a difference in over-wintering. So much of koi advice is unsupported, it doesn't hurt to mention the fact.
Ok.......2002-06-04
Where's the part about behavior, the part about training your fish to come on over (admittedly this is easy) and how about a more comprehensive types and markings - it was also sad they really skipped over butterfly koi. Otherwise nice pictures and a good disease section.
Oh well. Nice book to have, but it is not by any means complete.
Good, but could be better.......2002-05-16
This book includes everything you need to take care of koi, but sometimes in too much detail. Many of the items in this book are exactly the opposite of what I have read elsewhere (e.g wheatgerm sticks are bad for koi??)
While too much detail is usually the problem, there are also many parts when there are not enough facts to actually understand what thi book is trying to say.
It's an OK beginners guide, but some parts can be tedious and confusiong.
One of the two books you need........2002-02-07
This book has all the information you need on keeping Koi. Don't let its small size fool you. I have browse through all available Koi books, this book is the only one you need. You will not get more information from other books, except for more pictures. Buy this book and another book titled "The ponder's Bible" for excellent information on pond building and maintenance. These two books will be more than enough for keeping Koi sucessfully.
Excellent.......2000-07-18
If you're a beginner at having a pond and keeping koi, this is a great book. It has everything from digging the pond, filters and pumps...to everything you need to know to keep the pond clean for your fish. The book identifys the various breeds of koi, with a complete section on diseases.

KOI KICHI is an excellent reference book.......2000-09-01
I recently purchased the book KOI KICHI. I cannot compare it to others, but I have found it very informative. It goes into detail about pond construction, koi care, koi types, and is full of background information and stories.
The thing that may make this book less useful to the DIY person is that Waddington(author) is talking about what he calls a 'proper' system which excludes a lot of what poeple who like to do it themselves consider staple. For example, he leaves out many details about pond construction because he believes it should be made from concrete, and should be left to a professional along with electrical wiring, surveying, and landscaping.
As far as a reference book on koi, I found it to be excellent, and it certainly gives a different perspective on pond setups.
"Koi Kichi" is a must book for any serious Koi enthusiast........1999-08-15
"Koi Kichi" contains many areas of information notusually found in other books. Most importantly it has a lot of commonsense answers based on 20 years of Koi experience.
His chapter on parasites, bacterial, viral, and fungal diseases is authoritative, detailed, and complete. It is just what will save the novice Koi keeper from poor advice from uniformed sources. The specific remedies he recommends have already saved enough of our Koi from death that we have more than recovered the cost of the book.
The author goes into detail on pond planning, design, construction, and the whys, whynots, and how-to's of water treatment. He also includes specific recommendations on water pumps, air pumps, plumbing equipment, biofilter material and pond materials.
His chapter on filtration is incredibly good. His knowledge is exactly what any Koi pond builder or keeper needs.
Peter Waddington is a typically British author with understated wit and humor liberally sprinkled about to keep us smiling.
His frequent and detailed trips to Japan's Koi breeding area acquaint us with the most famous Koi breeders for each Koi variety.
His pictures are beautiful, numerous, and show each of the Koi varieties.
Simply the best KOI book.......1999-05-01
KOI Kichi is simply the best KOI book that I have ever seen. It is so complete. It is a must for KOI beginer and also a very good reference book for the experienced.
The book describe in detail about KOI type, KOI selection, how to build a good KOI pond, KOI disease and treatment, KOI breeders in Japan and almost every other single thing about KOI. I guess that the book is so good as it is written by an author who is a KOI Kichi (Crazy about KOI)
If you a serious KOI lover, you should buy this book.
the koi book.......1998-06-22
koi kichi is with beond a doubt the best Koi book available that covers all topics in a realistic view advice from Peter leaves the reader aware and full of info about the fish they adore Koi
Warning! This book is it. The true koi keepers bible........1997-12-20
The worlds Koi hobbyist were unknowingly waiting for this book. It shows and tells the Koi world as it has never been shown before. If anyone that has an interest into koi is not presently Koi Kichi, (crazy) in Japanese, they will be after reading Waddy's words as only he could describe the Koi kingdom. I was driven so Kichi, I spent November in Japan following the books description as I went from pond to pond and breeder to breeder. Having read the book, from cover to cover, made every place visited seem like I had been there before. A must for all Koi keepers.
Customer Reviews:
Ok, but slightly outdated.......2007-05-30
Koi keeping is an ancient art and little with raising koi has changed. The historical references are still accurate and the preadators as well. It's a pretty good place to start when learning about koi. But there are newer problems that have arisen health wise and there's only little in the book about koi types. I think that if you can get a different "intro to koi" book, you should.
