A New Zealnd Pond.......2007-09-05
I used Interpet Products available from my local garden centre and I decided to check out some of the books advertised with their products and so ordered the "Your Healthy Garden Pond".
I have read this book and found it a very useful reference, easy to read and with good illustrations. I would recommend it to anyone with a small garden pond.
Must Read for a Healthy Pond.......2007-08-13
This is a very good book for those who already have a pond. It does not get into the design and construction of ponds, but concentrates on maintaining the pond you have. This is exactly what I was looking for. I did not need to design or construct a pond; however, I did need the knowledge to maintain an existing pond, and this book fit the bill perfectly.
It covers:
* Water quality - the nitrogen cycle and what tests you need to perform
* Filtration - types of filters, filter media, cleaning filters
* Algae and plants - types of plants and how to grow them, how to contain algae
* Fish - the different types of fish suitable for a pond and how to diagnose problems
* Pond cleaning - when and how to clean the pond
* Seasonal maintenance. - fall and winter preparations
Also this book is illustrated with many full color pictures so you can see clearly what the author is talking about.
Super explanations.......2007-06-06
Borrowed this book from the library but have to buy it. It's a good reference and does great explanations. Real helpful for a novice like me.
Awesome .......2007-04-10
I wasn't sure if a small compressor would meet all my needs but this Makita has plenty of power for operating a nail gun or filling truck tires.

useless book.......2007-09-30
This book was too complicated for the beginner and too superficial for everybody else. While all the photos of plants contained more than one type of plant, the caption failed to identify more than one type and it was never clear which plant the caption was referring too. Many of the more complicated topics were treated so superficially as to be of any use to anybody and should have been left out entirely
Why & How to kepp and aquarium........2007-09-13
The authors have done an excellant job of describing water chemistry and the reasons various filtration systems work. pH, KH, hardness, nitrites, and nitrates are all covered. Testing and correction of water deficiencies are described very well. The explanation of Kingdoms of platnts, animals, etc. is very enlightening. The different catagories of plants are also covered as well as their use in an aquarium. Fish that are compatible with a planted aquarium are also suggested.
Very nicely formatted Overview or Introduction.......2007-03-25
I've kept planted aquariums for a number of years, but was intrigued by this book because one of the co-authors is a well-known advocate of low-tech planted tanks.
The format of this book is VERY nice. The writing is friendly and inviting, and there are lots of pretty full color photos. Personally, I didn't learn a whole lot of new information, but it was a pleasant read nonetheless. I would certainly recommend it to someone just entering the hobby, or someone looking for an overview on planted tanks, especially if they're seeking some guidance on what type of planted tank is the best fit for them - high tech, low tech, biotope, etc. All around, a very good presentation, and an excellent invitation to exploring planted aquariums!
Good book for beginner........2006-03-02
This book has been quite helpful for my husband who is setting up his first planted aquarium. It is well organized, informative, and easy to read. The authors offer suggestions of compatible fish as well as plants, substrates, and water management.

Excellent Water Gardening Book!.......2003-02-22
This book should not be missed! Bill Heritage is one of the true experts in water gardening. While you can find books that are more current and have more photographs, it is hard to find one that is so well written and factual. Whether you are a novice or experienced water gardener, you will frequently refer to this book.
Reference of Choice for Beginners.......2000-04-23
Bill Heritage has put together one of the easiest to understand and complete guides for installing water gardens, for both the beginner and experienced water gardeners, on the market. The various construction methods are explained completely and no existing knowledge is assumed
One of the most valuable aspects of this book is the way he walks the reader through setting up a pond so it will balance naturally, without expensive pumps and filters, thus allowing a minimal expenditure of money for maximum pond enjoyment.
After six years, I still refer back to this book frequently for trouble shooting, cleaning schedules, and planting ideas.

Ponds.......2007-01-22
This was an excellent book for information on our pond. We will find it and the references inside very useful!
Not Very Helpful.......2000-10-18
I found that this book would have been helpful for pond plants or if I needed a recipe to cook something I had raised in a pond, but I wanted information on keeping fish in a pond. Specifically I was interested in catfish, and silly me, I 'judged the book by its cover.' This book provides very little helpful infomation on raising pond fish as a hobby. If you're interested in spending several thousand dollars to commercially raise fish such as trout, then this book has something to offer. Otherwise don't bother.
A poetic account of country living........1998-05-12
This is a beautifully written book! It contains many whimsical anecdotes on the process of building a pond, also much practical information on plants, fish, frogs, turtles, and ducks. Having just built a pond, I found this book just the ticket. It doesn't have much about the actual digging and construction--that information is best obtained from your local Soil and Water Conservation Office. But I highly recommend this book if you're building a "real" pond (not one of those plastic pool things).
Bad Rodale Books revisited. Where's the meat?.......1998-03-17
Mostly touchy feely pointless antedotes. At most one page of useful information.

Don't bother with this one.......2002-07-24
Obviously this book is considered for beginners, but if you really are a beginner, it will just lead you in the wrong directions. And if you're experienced, then you'll be shaking your head at some of the stuff written. While there are some nice pictures, even that is organized badly because you have to flip about 10 pages over to see the picture of the plant being discussed. The plant profiles section is very short and almost useless, especially the "Similar plants" category, which is very inaccurate. And there's not one mention of Aponogetons, or some other very common aquarium plants. Save your money for something better. I bought this and returned it for a full refung 3 days later. If you're looking for a quality, cheap beginners book, get Scheurmann's Aquarium Plants Manual instead.
