Customer Reviews:
Exactly what I was looking for!.......2006-07-02
I had finished piecing my first crazy quilt and only knew about two embroidery stitches with which to embellish it...of all the books that said they were "the one" I chose this one, and it was PERFECT. Each stitch, no matter how complex, is broken down into simple stitches and explained, so not only did I add feather stitches, I made vines and flowers and butterflies! This book is perfect for the beginner who wants her project to look like she's not a beginner!
Crazy Quilt Stitches . . . a success!.......2005-08-24
this book, An Encyclopedia of Crazy Quilt Stitches and Motifs, was very useful and
informative for my current needlepoint project which included crazy quilt stitches
as an overlay. the color photos allowed you to see the application of each stitch.
the pages of illustration were easy to follow. i am very pleased to own this book for
my stitching library.

I love looking through this book.......2005-03-27
I love to get ideas from the first few pages that show all the stitches in one place. I've learned lots of new stitches that have looked great. The drawings make it easier to see where the needle should go. I wasn't disappointed.
Great For Learning Crazy Quilt Stitches.......2002-01-11
This book was exactly what I was looking for, it teaches you many different basic stitches and then later in the book combines them together to make great looking designs. It also has a small section on embroidering with ribbons which is really nice. It shows you how to make flowers, birds and even a spider web with a spider attached. If you haven't done much embroidery and are looking for a book to show you how to get started this is the one for you. Happy Quilting.
I was most let down with this book.......2000-06-23
the motifs, embellishments and stitches were great but for the price I felt quite let down with the inside of the book.
it would have been nice to see more.
there have been other books with a lot more work and color but cheaper than this book
but great cover! please dont be offended

Its the best.......2007-08-11
In my opinion this is the BEST book out on making Crazy Quilts. I have four others but this is my favorite. You'll love it.
Good crazy quilting resource.......2007-05-13
Good comprehensive book on crazy quilting -- from basic construction of crazy quilt blocks to stitch diagrams and materials suggestions. Also includes drawings of how stitches would be used in crazy quilt blocks.
Crazy Quilting.......2007-04-11
I found this book very helpful in deciding what stitches to embellish my crazy quilt. I thought the books drawings made it easier to visualize how the stitches would look on my pieces. I am new to Crazy quilting and just did'nt know where to start. The book solves that dilemma with useful diagrams and helpful information. This is a most for all serious quilters. My work is getting raves and it is so easy!!! Buy the book, you won't be sorry.
nice book.......2007-01-10
This book is very useful, there are alot of great ideas in this book.
a taste of everything!.......2006-05-25
this book has a taste of everything, see what gets your attention. From hand embroidery to marble dying of fabric. I've read this book with almost everything getting my interest.
the only bad part about the book, not enought examples for some of the hand embroidery sections. Other than that, I'll keep going back to this book again and again.

Customer Reviews:
Great Quilts.......2007-05-17
This book is great. Karla Alexander has many great patterns in many different books.
Interesting........2007-01-14
The only reason this did not get a 5 is that I am not sure about how to do this, more over I am a traditional quilt lover and I am not very artsy. I know folks that love the stack and wack. Nice book and great colors.
Alaska quilter.......2006-11-12
The instructions are clearly written in this book. What it lacks is any information how to quickly and easily enlarge the quilts. The majority of the quilts are approximately lap or twin size. It would be very helpful to add info for those of us who are mathematically challenged on how to enlarge the quilts either by larger blocks or how to go about creating more blocks with more fabric.
Great Variety for Fast, Contemporary Quilts.......2005-04-26
I like this book SO MUCH more than the original Stack the Deck. The variety in this book is great, and the concept is easy to follow. Plus, the quilts look GREAT. My hand-dyed fabrics really shine in these quilts, and I can showcase special pieces with ease. The Red Onion quilt is my favorite, although I was really attracted to the floral squares one, as well. My only issue with the book is that the borders shown are fairly plain-jane - some different examples would be nice. But hey - if that's the only thing wrong, I can find borders (or create some) for myself!
nice book.......2005-03-27
I just received my copies of this book and the first, Stack the Deck. I like the looks of the ones in this book better. I'm wanting to make at least 3 of the quilts in this book. The only 'problem' I see with the books (so far) is that she shows a small photo of different cutting diagrams with the cutting and piecing orders, but you have to either 'free style' it or draw your own or enlarge these to size (which may take several copies since some are oly about an inch square and the fabric square starts out at 9 3/4 inches!) anyways, I haven't tackled this yet and I'm not sure if I'll just draw my own or what. there are also a few with curves in this book and circles..as well as several 'square inside a square' looking ones as well as a few others. Other than not having the full-size 'templates' I'm very happy with this book (but Iguess the idea is to get away from using templates and be creative!) I originally thought I'd give this a 4 star rating but for the type of book it is I think it fits the bill. It reminds me also of some patterns I have by two kwik kwilters, except with theirs they give you the fullsize pattern and you trace it on freezer paper for each set of blocks..but there are more ideas in this book than these patterns currently offer.

Strips & Strings, a very clear quilting guide........2007-09-05
Evelyn Sloppy's "Strips & Strings,Sixteen Sparkling Quilts" is a very clearly written guide to making quilts mostly from strips of scraps. It was required for a class that I will be taking this fall, but I expect to make several more of the projects besides the one we will do in class. After using some other books full of typo's and bad instructions, this book is a breath of fresh air.

Customer Reviews:
amazing, freeing.......2007-03-14
I used this book in a class. If you are using it on your own, take your time and experiment with a small project. Most Important to keep track of the order of the cut pieces. Number them on paper and keep on the stack.
As you sew them together, do not press them. You must complete a whole block before you press because there are so many pieces on the bias. As you sew, none of the seams will line up and the whole thing looks like a mess. When you finish the block and press it you will be amazed.
It is very freeing, you don't have to control anything, except the order in which the pieces must be sewn. Chose your fabrics carefully. When I was finished making a table runner, there were two of the fabrics I did not like so did not use a couple of blocks. The rest were very interesting as random cuts and looked great.
Nice and easy!.......2005-07-19
The instructions were easy to follow. I was fortunate enough to be taking the class from Karla as I used the book! You can get rid of a lot of scraps using this technique.

Learn a super quilting technique.......2005-07-19
This book will inspire you to make quilts - lots of quilts. I've pieced two in just over a week and now I imagine all kinds of possibilities for future quilts.
Karla's technique is just plain fun, easy and creative. And if you ever have the opportunity, take a class from her, her classes are as great as her books.
More of the same.......2005-07-06
I was a little disappointed in this book. Every quilt started looking the same with little useful information.
Very Easy but they look so complicated!.......2004-10-10
My daughter and I are sharing this book, it is wonderful!. The designs are so easy to put together and the finished product is wonderful! I highly recomend this book and her follow up book for quilters who work full time and don't have all the time to quilt that they want.

Disappointing.......2006-10-14
I was hoping to find some very unique ideas in this book but I was very disappointed. Most of the projects had the same look. It reminded me of 1970s patchwork. Not "crazy" as the title suggests, but probably can be accomplished in a weekend.

If you only buy one crazy quilt/embroidery book, THIS IS THE ONE!!.......2007-10-11
I've read and own several books on crazy quilting. THIS IS THE BEST!! It has tons of information on embroidery stitches, motifs (patterns, sorta) and instructions. Michler is a knowledgeable author and I highly recommend any of her books on crazy quilting but this is my personal favorite.
Great Book.......2007-06-07
I have really used this book. It has lots of designs and has given me great ideas.
Great for Crazy Quilters.......2006-07-28
I love this book. Sure, I could find many pictures in other books but this one has the motif outlines by catagory. If you know nothing about some CQ techniques, get a different book.
This book shows how to transfer your designs, how to create your own alphabet and has lots of designs to copy. Many flowers, bugs, dragons and such. Some surface techniques I had not done. (a vintage lady with 3D clothes)
This book is a joy.

Customer Reviews:
Can't stop crazy quilting now.......2006-10-19
I had already begun crazy quilting by machine before purchasing this book, but frustrated in how to expand on just a plain zigzag machine. I ordered this book and have been closely pouring over it ever since. The encyclopedia of machine stitches was not as full as I anticipated but nevertheless informative. Just carefully looking over the beautifully illustrated projects provides inspiration for many projects to come. Ms. Michler also provides many useful patterns. This book confirmed I was headed in the right direction with machine crazy quilting, and I discovered ways to fulfill some of my own ideas and to do things I thought not possible on a machine. It turned out to be the perfect book for me.
Crazy Quilting by Machine.......2005-07-29
Having made several crazy quilts by hand I was anxious to try machine quilting. This beautifully illustrated book gave me all the information I needed to proceed and inspire. The photographs are exceptional; the author is truly an artist both in photography, gardening and design. The instructions are clear, precise and easy to follow. This book is a welcome addition to my quilt library.
A Good Book for your Llibrary.......2005-06-03
This is well illustrated and includes some beautiful pieces from which to draw inspiration. Well written with concise instructions, including templates you can copy and material lists if you wish to create the projects contained with in the book.
Crazy quilter's delight.......2002-11-14
This book shows several different techniques on making crazy quilts. Lots of coloured photos and the instructions are easy to follow. I would have liked the author to have gone into more detail regarding sandwiching and quilting techniques for crazy quilts. Still, this book is worth adding to your collection.
Gorgeous book-- terrific for crazy quilt ideas, projects.......2000-08-31
This is a fantastic book. Whether you hand or machine embroider your crazy quilts, it has terrific ideas for cq projects and techniques. Get it and you wont be disappointed.
