Book Description
It's not lumpy, bumpy, or designed to hold potted plants anymore
* Top-selling author!
* 22 amazing projects--simple and stylish
* 14 knotting techniques for fun, easy jewelry making
Macramé. Just the word summons up images of hideous 1960s atrocities designed to hang plants. But what was good about macramé in the 1960s is still what's good about macramé: It's easy, it's fun, everybody can do it. And now everybody can get great results, making gorgeous jewelry that's sure to astonish anyone born before the Reagan era. Best-selling author Sherri Haab takes a completely fresh look at the craft, using fine cords and shimmering beads that are popular with today's beadwork and jewelry designers. Clear illustrations show how to do 14 simple knotting techniques. Then it's time to try 22 projects for bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces, even a belt, a purse, and an iPod pouch--each one stylish, colorful, and easy to create. Beaded Macramé Jewelry is macramé for today!

Not what I thought.......2007-09-09
This book just wasn't what I expected it to be. I really can't see myself making more than a few of the pieces. Although her directions, photos, and reference for material sources are excellent. Its just that I was hoping for more elaborate jewlery selections.
Any crafts library will welcome the different approach........2007-03-12
You may think of hippie or old-fashioned styles when you think 'macrame' but Sherri Haab demonstrates a vast difference with her modernized Beaded Macrame Jewelry, which goes beyond the usual hemp and wooden beads of the past to display macrame's contemporary possibilities. From bead-enhanced belts to intricate necklaces with plenty of detail, BEADED MACRAME JEWELRY shows you don't have to regulate macrame to the 1960s: any crafts library will welcome the different approach.

Sherri did a great job with this one. Good examples, interesting materials, and great illustrations.
New Macramé styles: Great retro stuff.......2006-10-29
I love this book; the instructions are was easy to follow, though you have to have some experience knotting friendship bracelets. The illustrations are also great and the earrings I made from the easiest instruction turned out great. If you are looking for something new to try in jewelry making this is the book to pick up.

The Best Bead Show in Town.......2007-09-22
This is truly a beautiful collection of "beadwork". Not only is it wonderfully diverse in the inspiration department, but the photographs are stellar, too. I got this book for my daughter who works with beads on the same artistic level, but having sent it to her I knew that I needed to have these wonderful images for myself, too. So I have bought two copies so far and will probably by more as gifts for my other art-minded friends. A treasure trove of imaginative art. I highly recommend this book .
a photographic bonanza of beadwork.......2007-08-25

This book is beautiful.......2006-09-27
This book has a great variety of beadwork techniques that resembles a museum in a book. I can read it over and over and always feel inspired. I love this book.
500 Beaded Objects.......2006-08-31
Great book, wonderful way to spark creative juices. Amazing pieces, such fun to look through. Reccommend this for anyone who is even thinking about beading beyond stringing. Purchased this as a gift for many of my beading buddies, and my daughter and daughter-in-law.
BEST BOOK outthere for BEADING!!.......2006-08-20
The book came in excellent condition, as it should have, it was bought brand new. The contents seem to me to be excellent. I am not the one to whom the book is for, it is a BD gift for my daughter.

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous Book.......2007-04-19
This book is absolutely inspiring! It is wonderful what sophisticated designs can be created with these techniques and simple beads. The author is a woman after my own heart (she asks, "Can any one person own too many beads?"), and her knowledge and passion show in her writing. I think this book may overwhelm someone who is an absolute beginner, someone who has never done any beadwork before. To get the most from this book, I think you need a little experience. But her illustrations are the best I have ever seen, and her instructions are very clear. This book is worth the price just for the gorgeous color photos of projects. Another thing I like about the book is the fact that she gives many pointers for variations in the techniques, and encourages you to take off on your own. If you like seed beads and want to get beyond stringing, this book is essential.
Inspiring.......2006-09-21
There is only 1 other book at this level and that is the author's Creative Bead Weaving. Buy either one or even better both. Not only are the instructions excellent but the pictures and the projects are creative and inspiring. Please - when is your next book coming out.
Bead Weaving.......2006-07-27
Great book for instructions for all types of bead weaving. The beads are numbered so you have exact directions on where to go next. A "must have" book for any beader.
Fabulous.......2006-07-04
I found this book at the library and I was enchanted. I ordered my book from Amazon and thankfully received it before I had to return my copy to the library. I made many beautiful Christmas gifts from the ideas I got from this wonderful book. This book has challenged me and showed me the way with clear directions and diagrams. I am inspired to build on the techniques I have developed with the guidance of this excellent book.
If you had just enough money to buy 1 book, this is it!.......2006-02-28
The techniques are all encompassing, directions backed up with good illustrations. Easy to follow, and should I find the time to experience all that is in this book, I'll be a great beader!
I have many Beading Books, and consider this one my finest at the present time. 2006

Customer Reviews:
The first and still one of the best.......2007-01-02
Back in 1992, If you said "beadwork," people would think of the simply strung love beads of the 1960's, or they might consider Native American beadwork. Yet the art of serious beadwork was still alive and was growing, thanks to people like the authors of this book. Unlike today, when there are more books on beadwork than one could possibly read and still have time to actually DO some beadwork, there were no real books on the kinds of beadwork being produced by a few small pockets of artisans.
Then "The New Beadwork" was published.
It would be hard to overstate the impact that this slim volume has had on the art of beading. In the early nineties, if you wanted to buy a book on beadwork, this was it. Not that anyone buying the book would feel as if she hadn't gotten her money's worth - this book became an instant treasure. It was a major factor in elevating a certain calibre of beadwork to an art, just as a beautiful woodcarving or an ancient mosaic is art. The beadwork in this book is so far from love beads or the macrame potholder hanging in your grandmother's kitchen, it seems almost criminal to speak of them in the same breath.
Any serious beadworker, or anyone who aspires to be a beadworker needs this book, as inspiration and also to see how far we have come. If one could only purchase a half-dozen books on beadwork (which would be tragic), this would have to take a place with "The Art and Elegance of Beadwork" and "Creative Beadweaving" by Carol Wilcox Wells, "The Beader's Guide to Color" by Margie Deeb, "The Art of Beadwork: Historic Inspiration, Contemporary Design" by Valerie Hector and Lois Sherr Dubin, and "The History of Beads: From 30,000 B.C. to the Present" (Unabridged Edition) by Lois Sherr Dubin. This listing is subject to debate, of course, but most beadworkers would consider these books to be the best of the best.
It's a pity this book is out of print - but it is still available, and still fresh and useful. It is a worthy purchase for anyone who wants to raise her beadwork out of the craft category and into the realm of artwork.
Extreme Eye-Candy for Beadwork Lovers!.......2002-12-10
This book is for one thing only - inspiration! But what inspiration! I'm an actually on my second copy of this book as my first became so worn from my paging and drooling.
The pieces are shown alphabetically by artisan with a two line biography, then a brief desciption of the piece and a listing of techniques used - I love the fact that the dimensions are given with each piece! There is also included an artisan's statement giving you insight into how the artisan sees his/her work.
As this was originally published in 1992 some of the resources are out of date but a web search will remedy that. Also, don't buy this book for instructions on how to do the beadwork, this is strictly eye-candy and how sweet it is! This is the book I pull from my shelf often to remind me of how much I love this medium, how far I have to go in my explorations, and how much fun getting there will be!
Sadly this book is out of print, but if you are a serious beadworker or someone who wants to see the best that beadwork can be - spend the time and money to get a copy of this treasure.
Gorgeous beadwork!.......1999-12-18
Inspirational...helps get your own creative ideas going when you see some of the incredible stuff other bead artists are doing. Has a small how-to section which is not very helpful, but the photographs are wonderful.
indispensible book for the serious beader.......1999-02-04
You can't be a serious bead artist if you don't own this book, that's all there is to it. The introduction itself--with its cogent and encompassing trace of the contemporary groundswell in bead art--is worth its price. As a source for the work of the most well-known and emerging artists this book is a museum in itself. Ms. Withers is to be commended for the beauty of her presentations as well as for her sensitivity to the deeply spiritual and downright funky satisfaction both the bead artist and the bead art owner derive from the humble bead.Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but women prefer beads. And yes, real men do make bead art!
The most beautiful book on beadwork I've ever seen!.......1999-01-20
This book full of photos with amazing artworks. I was surprized what people can make with beads. You can find a lot of great ideas or you can give this book as a gift to someone who enjoys beading or just loves albums with beautiful pictures. You gonna love it!

Full of definitions and illustrations, the book's step-by-step instructions, reference charts, and project photos inform and inspire.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Reference Book.......2007-09-19
After having taken a week long course in beading and then returning to the "real world" where I did not get to bead for a few weeks, I found that I could easily pick up this book for a quick review and follow the step by step instructions easily and with excellent results. I also own the same series for knitting and have referred to that for years when I needed a review. I believe that even a beginner with no previous experience would be able to follow the instructions with success. The book covers a good range of techniques with background info on the supplies as well. A definate for any beaders library.
very good reference.......2007-07-11
A helpful tool for any beader!
Contains information about bead types, bead sizing, useful materials (needles, waxes threads etc), stitches types, stringing, beads in crochet, knitting, wirework, embroidery and macramé.
Small and simple to use, but I feel that I need to mention that this book is a reference and not to learn how to bead.
I mostly refer to it when I'm creating my own projects (I may have something in mind and I need to find a most effective way to develop it).
I was a little bit disappointed when I searched for peyote stitch- edge increase (not included) but overall the book is great and well presented.
Design of book and contents helpful.......2007-05-30
I am fairly new at beading and found this book to be simple to understand and informative. The top spiral-bound book is easy to read and look up. It is a basic book that explains things clearly.
Beading Reference.......2007-04-10
This little book is jam-crammed with info essential to beaders whether beginner or long-time addict! Get it and keep it close for reference!
The New Beader's Companion.......2007-03-10
I received this book in a very timely manner and in great condition and at a wonderful price. I would definitely use your service over almost all the others I have dealt with. Thanks again.

All my Beads just hit the wall.......2005-08-09
OMG! This could not be harder to follow if it were written in a different language! Even the first basic leaf is not logical with three different wires being called for but only one in the directions..... The pictures are nice, some beautiful flowers, great ideas on what to do with the things once you get them done.... but I'm going back to the internet to get the directions... those are written step by step and easy to understand... I'll get those basics and maybe come back to this for ideas how to put together flowers from those petals....
A Clear Guide to an Old Craft.......2002-07-06
Those who have ever admired the tradional Victorian beaded flowers under glass domes - or who have seen on the net how new techniques have added to this fascinating craft - will welcome the chance to acquire a clearly written, well illustrated beginers instruction manual. Many species of flowers are included from exotic orchids to native favourites; hints on arrangement and display help newcomers make the most of their work. I really got enthused by the photos and followed up with a search on the net to locate clubs and suppliers. I recommend this book to anyone looking to make antiques of the future, or to begin a profitable new hobby.
Not Quite a Beaders "Bible" but close!!.......2002-05-16
While these weren't the first beaded flower patterns in my collection, it was the first book...and I've never regretted my decision to purchase it! It is a wonderful resource, with clear patterns and assembly instructions. The fact that she gives general recommendations for colors then leaves the actual color selection up to the crafter/artist is commendable. (I very rarely use recommended colors in patterns, preferring to go my own way and trust my own color choices. I am most appreciative of the fact that Ms Kelly doesn't try to "hold my hand" when it comes to my creative choices.)
I am currently designing my wedding bouquet, the bouquets for my brides maids, as well as the corsages for the mothers/grandmothers in the wedding party...So far, with the exception of the beaded wheat I'm working on, everything I'm planning on using has come from this book! (As an aside, Ms Kelly does have a beaded wheat pattern available, just not in the book. However, I had already found another pattern to use before I discovered that...) The biggest problem I've had is trying to determine which of her patterns to use, if I don't limit myself, my bouquet is going to be to heavy to carry!
a delight to own.......2002-05-07
A nice addition to my collection. There are plenty of projects. The pictures are nice, the instructions are easy enough to follow and my results with the finished product is very satisfying. This is one book worth having.
Class with Dalene.......2002-05-06
I have the honor of being able to take classes taught by Dalene making the flowers that are shown in this book. I have found the book to be easy to read and very helpful.

Color photos.......2006-07-29
This book has color photos. I found the photos and the lessons on how to make them intriguing, so intriguing in fact that I learnt more about this hobby because of it. I really liked the book, and as I knew nothing about it when I got it, I found that the colour photos and the detail pictures and writeups really helped me learn all I needed to know. To prove my point I uploaded one picture of a hosta and the directions. I hope that you find that useful as I did. I am not sure what the other reviewer was discussing, but perhaps that was a different edition?
This book is dated 1969 and that's ok.............2005-01-15
The pictures in this book are in black and white and small. If you are a visual learner, as I am, this is not the book to start with. After saying that, I also have to say that if you have even a little experiance with French Beaded Flowers this book is worth the price. There are lots of projects to do and the insturctions are fairly simple. Each and every book on French Beaded Flowers, and there are not to many of them, offers something the others missed. If you are just starting out use one of Darlene Kellys or Donna DeAngles Dickett books because the pictures are better. It makes it easier if you can see a picture of what your flower is going to look like. This book though is a welcome addition to my growning library of books on French Beaded Flowers.

Book Description
New in Paper
Master craftswoman Ann Benson exemplifies the art of beading with these fresh and stylish woven designs for jewelry, clothing, and decorative items. The appealing techniques range from loom weaving to brickstitching, and a primer with all the basics covers each method so beaders can get going right away. An Irish Sunset brooch features classic Celtic knotwork and exquisite stitchery; pearls and stones add extra dimension to the pin. A Heart Ornament, done with filet beading, makes a great gift for a loved one. Or stitch and bead a Kilim Rug, Kimono, Pretty Bridal Bag, Bargello Lamp, and Sunset Panel.
"Great! This book is more than a jewelry making guide. It also demonstrates projects that are decorative and useful."--Craft Digest
