Franciscan:An American Dinnerware Tradition.......2006-11-06
My Father was the last Dinnerware Plant Manager for Franciscan China while it was still made in California. This book included alot of Franciscan China that is usually left out. I recommeded this book to my Father, who bought it and loved it too.
Franciscan: An American Dinnerware Tradition.......2005-09-11
Excellent material, but I wish the colors were more vivid and true to the real colors of the pottery. I recommend the book because it has a wealth of information for anyone who enjoys learning about all the patterns and their history. It would be a wonderful addition to the library of a collector or anyone interested in California pottery.
Franciscan: An American Dinnerware Tradition.......2005-08-23
Great resource. If you're a collector, BUY THIS BOOK. The pricing guide is an amazing reference for rare and uncommon pieces.
Some things lacking . . . ........2002-12-06
The book is well written and I've learned quite a bit. However, I don't like that there isn't a photo of every piece (like the child's plate) or how to tell the difference between a casserole and a covered vegetable. I also didn't like that the price guide doesn't break down the year the item was made, just prices of American made, and made in England. Is one made in 1941 worth more than one in 1980??? The book and the guide doesn't say. I also felt as though it was CLEARLY written from a SALES perspective, complete with a photo of The Replacements headquarters on the back cover!
A good book.......2002-01-20
This is probably the best book on Franciscan dinnerware around. It gives a lot of information on the company, it's history etc. I would have liked to see more information and photos on the handpainted items, namely the Apple and Desert Rose varieties. There are only a few pages devoted exclusively to them. There is a price guide included that covers most of the items, although it doesn't show photos of each piece. I think it's a pretty good book though and I'm glad I bought it.

Collectors Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain (Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain)
ASIN: 0891456465 |
Book Description
This book documents and illustrates over 1,000 pieces of china, the Pickard trademarks, and old advertising with color photos and current collector values. It also includes over 150 brief artist biographies, patent information, a bibliography, and the various china associations. All known antique pattern names, as well as popular designs of anonymity are listed, many patterns never before identified. Due to the lack of a source of information on Pickard china, Alan Reed has devoted a decade of research on his own -- through interviews, letters, papers, U.S. Census records, and through other collectors. The history of the other Chicago studios and the artists from the 'golden era' (between 1894 and 1925) of handpainted china are included. 2000 values. REVIEW: Over 800 photos with no repeats from Book I are featured in this collector's guide. It's divided into six collectible categories: early years (1700 - 1875), cabinet cups, nineteenth twentieth century, English bone china, miniatures, and figurals. A marks section, helpful appendix, and bibliography are included, as well as useful tips for dealers and collectors. -Robert Clayton

Recommended by Debby DuBay Author of Antique Limoges.......2004-02-16
I found this book after I went to a appraisal in Dallas Texas where author Debby DuBay was speaking on antique Limoges porcelain. I purchased DuBay's book Antique Limoges at Home and then purchased American Limoges by Ms. Limoges to help me with my American Limoges pottery. I found out by reading these reference books every thing I needed to know about my grandmothers "Limoges" Thank you to two wonderful authors who have published two very useful and valuable reference guides on the subject.
Recommend American Limoges and Antique Limoges at Home.......2003-01-27
I found American Limoges after reading Debby Dubay's "Antique Limoges at Home". If you want to know the difference between antique Limoges and American Limoges I highly recommend Antique Limoges at Home! For more info on American Limoges recommend this book.
Good basic reference on American Limoges.......2001-05-30
Full-color photos on every page and current price values for each item are the pluses in this book. Many items are not actually identified, however, and names given to the pieces have been coined by the author. Even so, this one serves as a handy reference and guide to those wishing more information on American Limoges, the history and major pieces. I wish there'd been more examples of Viktor Schreckengost's connection to the company and designs made by him for American Limoges but that is a personal preference.
A necessary tool for the collector of American Limoges china.......1998-07-08
Do not purchase any Limoges China, (american) without this book. It is a priceless resource to be carried with you as you explore antique shops. I wish that I had it with me before I gave away my American Limoges China, thinking that it was worthless. Raymonde Limoges has done a great job in assembling this book.

Book Description

Almost 500 color photographs, many not featured in the first edition, are included, with many never-before-seen photos of May and Vieve Hamilton pottery. She authored two books, Versatile Vernon Kilns in 1978 and Versatile Vernon Kilns Book II in 1983. She published Collectible Vernon Kilns in 1994. After that she spent many years researching and uncovering scare examples for her second edition, published in 2004. Art ware, specialty ware, dinnerware, and famous artists and designers are featured.

"The Bible" for collectors of Vernonware........2006-03-23
This book is a must have for anyone interested in collecting any of the numerous shapes and/or patterns of pottery made by Vernon Kilns. I won't repeat what's said above in the book description or product details, but I will add that many years of obvious painstaking research has culminated in Maxine Nelson's 4th book on the subject.
I had no idea what a challenge it would be to complete a collection of dinnerware in just ONE of the patterns ("Gingham", a green and yellow plaid design) that was made. Even with this book in hand you will never be 100% sure of all the pieces that exist in whatever pattern you're attempting to collect. In my opinion, the "not knowing" is part of the challenge that only serves to make collecting this truly versatile line of wares that much more fun, interesting, and rewarding.
By the way, this book has 320 pages, not 192 as listed above. Sadly, this book is already out of print. However, at the time of this writing quite a few copies are still available.
If you're a fanatic, you'll want to find copies of the newsletter "Vernon Views" printed from 1981 through 2003 by Pat Faux and Nancy Scadeberg, but we'll save that for another time...

Book Description
This bright and colorful guide presents a sweeping survey of the Homer Laughlin China Company's most popular dinnerware-Fiesta Ware. These brilliantly colored, inexpensive dishes helped brighten The Depression when they were introduced in 1936, and are avidly collected today. Hundreds of color photographs chronicle Fiesta's many forms, from the most common to much sought-after rarities, and the dazzling spectrum of glaze colors which adorn them. Also included in the text is a history of the Homer Laughlin Company and examples of their manufacturer's marks. Updated values are provided for the various wares, along with an index and bibliography.
Customer Reviews:
Nice pictures of vintage..........2007-05-04
This book as some interesting info but not great. The book is 97% Fiestaware, most of that being the vintage pieces.
Being a collector of the post 86 Fiestaware, the book didn't do much for me.
Why can't we get a decent Fiesta Book?!.......2001-09-27
I don't care what Martha Stewart says. I love her show and all... but this book stinks and was the worst recommendation she has ever given!
There are just not really good books on fiesta ware out there. T
All this book was to me (i returned it as well) was a nice picture book with beautiful color representations. If I didn't care about the rip of price of [cost] I would have laminated it and given it to a baby as a picture book.
Outstanding photography and color accuracy just don't make up for the lack of valid information. I read the book cover to cover and I just missed the reference part of the book aside from a list of prices. It is full of errors and distorted information. When you do find something reference about the book it is mostly confusing or plain wrong.
Things are mislabeled... etc.
This is more of a coffeetable book than a reference guide.
Overall [the price] is too much for picture book.
A mixed bag of good and mediocre..........2000-04-02
I am not sure exactly how I feel about this book. On the one hand, it's got some excellent photos, beautifully lit, lush with color. On the other hand it is not in any way an exhaustive reference of Fiesta, as one would expect with a collectible as popular as this. I like the fact that photos are shown of the various backstamps (marks), but I'm not wild about the lack of organization and skimpy table of contents. I'd like to see more examples added, categories more organized, and prices more accurate (mind you, prices in reference books these days are hard to pin down, due to the affect of online auctions on collectibles). Long on nice visuals, short on information (and a bit too expensive for what one gets!)
Useful, fast reference, superior images.......2000-03-10
If I had gone by the first reviews I would have left this book alone and that would have been a mistake. If the text had errors in the past they are long one. The images are fantastic, the text is informative and very readable, the prices are right on target. Particularly good for those new to the field but of use to anyone. Maybe old reviews should be removed now and then. This is a great book!
Great Photos!!! Easy to use, good reference book!.......1998-10-05
I love this book!! I think that the photos are great very useful information.

For the money you can't do better than this if you collect Blue Ridge Pottery. Although there are many patterns of Blue Ridge dinnerware not pictured the majority of the most collectible patterns are. Book Description
This book focuses on 'new' Fiesta, or what some collectors call 'post 86' Fiesta. Somewhat different than the 'old' Fiesta, post 86 Fiesta maintains the historical dignity and the beautiful Deco design philosophy of Frederick Rhead. Candleholders, plates, vases, tumblers, platers, teapots, and coffeepots are all included in this pocket-size handy reference. Decaled new Fiesta is covered, including the Sunporch, Moon over Miami lines, and the MegaChina offerings. Approx. 200 detailed color photos.
Customer Reviews:
Great learning tool and reference.......2005-09-26
Great learning tool about fiesta dishes. Good pictures showing colors and their names. Quality book.
Severely disappointed.......2002-07-30
I'm both a collector and a bibliophile, and this is the first time I've ever thought it necessary to this say about any collector's book: In my opinion, this book stinks. A shame, as it's clear that the author has in-depth knowledge to impart. Unfortunately, it's clouded by the author's apparent dislike of dealers, fellow collectors, and the Homer Laughlin China Company itself.
The book designer's work is exuberant and cheerful, much as is Fiestaware; however, the author's text is mean spirited. I don't think I've ever seen an odder combination. I hope for better things from the obviously knowledgeable author in the future.
Someone published this?.......2002-05-16
The idea for a book dedicated to Post-1986 (P86) Fiestaware® is a terrific idea and I was pleased to order it.
What a poor execution! Racheter's attempt is inconsistent, sophomoric and diseased with his unceasing attacks on Homer Laughlin China Company. (Who cares why he hates Homer Laughlin? Not me!)
The (little) new information and price guide for some P86 colors - the book's innovative features - are overshadowed by the pointless commentary.
Unfortunately the book isn't worth keeping for the pictures either... Don't buy this book!...
So Much Has Changed.......2001-10-20
This book is a good start, but so much has changed in post 86 Fiesta... items, colors added and discontinued, prices. An update is desperately needed. Also a bit less "filler" as far as stories and dramatic exposition and more emphasis on actual introductions and discontinuations in the new line. Also, so many competing lines are similar... a back of the book section showing other contemporary dinnerware lines that currently compete with Fiesta.
My biggest suggestion would be a chapter showing comparison of old versus new items to show the evolution of design...1.e. the old casserole versus the new one, old cup next to new one. Many collectors of the new do not appreciate where the design evolved from
Also, the only decaled ware shown is...well.. the less said the better about what is shown... where are the artistic and popular patterns like Sunporch, Happy Pumpkin and Moon Over Miami?
The Post 86 Bible-Better than Collector's Encycl. of Fiesta.......2001-09-27
This book is better than the Collector's Encyclopedia of Fiesta. So save yourself about $... and buy this book instead if you want informations on POST 86 Fiesta.
It is full of pictures and has easy to use information boxes with every mold/piece. You know what colors they came in, mold and item numbers and lots of detailed informations.
The downside to this book is that you only find one picture per item (mostly) limiting your view by only offering one angle.
The price list is extensive enough to not leave colors out.
I personally enjoy the authors style of writing thoroughly with his light humor. Mocking Martha Stewart a little, because he seems to think that she's a stuck up snob that only wants the Super Old stuff and abominates the new colors for the most part. He tells funny stories about TV and where he's seen fiesta. However, a little more history and facts would sometimes be nice. I assume, people buy this book for information not funny short stories.
I thoroughly enjoy that fact that he includes uses for some odd pieces. Looking at some candle holders they could be anything. He explains what the item was meant for and what else it is commonly used for.
LAst but not least... unfortunately it seems like this author was not given the same acces to limited pieces and photographs in is therefore lacking some details on limited ed. pieces.
