The Definitive Book on Period Furniture.......2007-08-12
This is the most thorough, extensive, well-organized, beautifully photographed book on period furniture and interiors on the market today. It should be a required text for all design schools as well as a treasured resource for collectors, historians, and lovers of furniture of all kinds. Well worth it at twice the price.
A Must Have .......2007-05-13
This book is amazing, and needs to be on your shelf if you are involved in Interior Design, Historical Renovation, miniatures construction, film making, etc., etc! What I like best is that it treats less-expected styles, such as Scandinavian and Russian, which are often difficult to locate. The photos are outstanding. The quick Elements of Style at the beginning of each chapter are nut-shell explanations of how to identify a piece as belonging to a certain era. Well worth the price.
Furniture: World Styles From Classical to Contemporary.......2007-04-05
I am an interior design student, and have found this book to be a quality 5 star reference. The book is stunningly illustrated with furniture styles co-ordinated in easy to follow chronological order. This book has obviously been compiled with abundant thought and passion. I am thrilled with this book and highly recommend it!
Beautiful book!.......2007-03-10
This book is stunning! It is full of color photos of every type of furniture from Anciet Egypt to Modern designers. Each period is also divided into countries, so it is easy to find specific information. I highly recommend this book.

A British Book.......2000-05-02
This book is truly superb - and an excellent encyclopedia, filled with tons of useful information. However, I must say don't forget this is a British book. Therefore, you will see references to British Pounds and U.S. Dollars. This is not really a problem, except when you are looking up a specific piece of furniture, which may have a different name in England. That said, I doubt most people will even notice the difference - so, not to worry - just something to keep in mind. I definitely recommend it -the images are incredible and all in color, filling every page cover to cover. It is the best book I've ever seen on antiques. In addition, I bought it at my local bookstore and paid $80.
Well worth the price!.......1999-10-28
Similar to Understanding Antiques in format, but offers more information. Well written and illustrated with good, clear color photos on every page. This is a must have book for any antique collector.
Book Description
'It's not a quilt until it's quilted' and 'How do I quilt it?' are two statements often heard among quilting enthusiasts and quiltmakers. The ENCYCLOPEDIA OF DESIGNS FOR QUILTING by Phyllis D. Some of the diagrams are: straight lines, geometrics and triangles; squares and circles; diagonals and diamonds; ovals, crescents, and curves; ropes and cables; hearts and feathers; and representational, naturalistic, designs taken from a quilt pattern, and combination designs. In the back section, the Numerical Index has numbers assigned to the designs for easy documentation and reference. Phyllis's quilt designs have helped her win numerous awards in quilt competitions. You'll find the tools in the ENCYCLOPEDIA FOR DESIGNS FOR QUILTING will help you create your own designs and make your quilts ribbon winners, too! AUTHORBIO: Phyllis D. A to Z Quilting Designs.......2006-08-15
This is an excellent "how-to" on just about everything pertaining to quilting designs. Instructions are illustrated and written not just on how to draft the design/s - but how to mark your quilt with the design - suggestions on where they might fit appropriately on your particular quilt top. She gives you a listing of the tools you will need to do each particular design, helpful hints, and much more. The variety of designs ranges from the common to the more unusual. The manual also includes a numerical listing of the quilt designs using a numbering system similar to the one used by Barbara BBrackman in her "Encyclopedia of Applique." If you only plan on purchasing one book of quilting designs you can't go wrong with this one!
Encyclopedia of Designs for Quilting.......2004-11-21
New quilters to seasoned hand quilters will benefit from this book. The how-to part of the book is thorough and plentiful. Keep in mind that it was published in 1996, and the tools and methods described are traditional, similar to those used by our ancestors in quilting.
This encyclopedia of quilting designs completes what B. Brackman started with her encyclopedias on pieced and appliqué patterns. I will definitely bring this book with me to future documentation activities. This book will help train my eye to see the various patterns on a quilt and identify them in my memory so that I will see all the patterns on a quilt. A more in-depth look will be my gain.
Every quiltemaker must own this book...........1999-12-15
I have been a quiltmaker for 6 years now, but have yet to become a good quilter until I read this book. In just one evening, I was able to draft a border pattern using the box from Stovetop Stuffing and draw it on my current quilt project, a double 9-patch. I actually teach quilting but never got very intricate with my quilting stitches. I can now do feathers and cables with ease. I will refer to this book forever and will never need another for designing quilting patterns and getting ideas for future quilts. This book is entirely focused on the quilting stitches where most quilting books give you that info. as an afterthought. Thanks Phyllis D. Miller! I will now have some real heirlooms for my children.
Book Description
For the first time, this invaluable sourcebook will enable collectors to identify transfer-printed pottery patterns through visual references. Divided by subject category, the individual patterns are illustrated and identified in an easy-to-use, accessible manner. Captions accompany each color photo, revealing essential information on pattern, maker, date, relevant marks, and other important details. Right at the start, a timeline pinpoints significant events in the history of design, while at the end, a wide selection of unusual and common shapes are shown and an alphabetical list of factories provided.

YOU WILL WAIT!!.......2006-07-18
The book is good; not totally comprehensive but good for a collector. I ended up finding it elsewhere. Be careful when ordering... I ordered it in early May and just got word that the ship date has been delayed AGAIN until late August! Go find it elsewhere!

WEIRD AL.......2006-08-17
i bought this cause i like weird al but it is a geat book buy this before it goes to $100 like everthing on amazon!!!!!
Very good overview.......2002-04-19
What this book lacks as a reference it makes up for in structure. By stylistically grouping the vinyl entries and providing a well written preamble for each section, Chuck Miller does a great service for the vinyl collector who may not be an expert in every musical genre. If you need a good general vinyl primer or are new to vinyl collecting, this is it. If you need a reference book, get Tim Neely's volumes.
A FIRST RATE AND FAR-RANGING MUSIC INFORMATION GUIDE!.......2001-11-26
This is a terrific book that not only fits the needs of anyone seriously interested in music, but will also hold the interest of the more casual music fan. It is filled with fascinating
trivia and a knowledge of the music industry that gives an added depth to the various genres of music explored. It will updoubtedly send the reader re-examining their record collections in search of hidden *finds*. For *anyone* buying or
selling records ... or even just learning more about American music ...this book is a *must*!
Chuck Miller's encyclopedic knowledge of music shines through in this record guide! It would make a perfect gift for the music lover (or even the trivia buff!) in your life.
I recommend it most highly!
A Fix For Music Junkies.......2001-11-13
Warman's American Records is not only a great reference book but is also a terrific source of entertainment. Being much more than a price guide, it delves into the history of many of the recordings and offers quite a bit of amusing trivia. I am not a collector in the true sense of the word (although I do own a couple of pieces of valuable vinyl) but I am a music junkie and this book delivers a great fix! I'm looking forward to Volume 2!
Definitely informative, a great record collecting guide.......2001-08-16
This book is a tremendous guide for people who want to start their own record collection, but aren't sure where to begin or which genre to collect. Over 50 different musical genres, artists and labels are profiled, each with photos of classic and rare LP covers, 45 labels, 78 RPM records, and 7" picture sleeves. The book even explains some rising collectible genres, such as Northern Soul music, Space Age Pop, and jukebox-only collectibles. It also contains ancillary information on record and music websites, magazines, museums and books, in order to help collectors increase their knowledge of their favorite music. If you are a record collector, or are thinking of becoming one, this book is essential reading! I enjoyed it immensely!!
Book Description
Virtually every passenger ship over 15,000 tons built between 1860 and 1994: Great Eastern, Lusitania, Titanic, Normandie, Queen Elizabeth, Monarch of the Seas, many more. Captions give builder, history, tonnage, length, speed, etc.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent basic reference........1999-11-07
If 1/3 of a page and one photo for each ship is enough info for you, this is an outstanding quick reference. I only wish the author had included a few significant ships of under 15,000 tons, and with the recent spate of very large new cruise ships, the book is slightly dated. A cross-reference list of sister ships might also have been welcome. No matter; this is still one of the most heavily-used books on my shelf.

Not exactly an encylopedia of soda pop.......2003-01-08
I applaud the author for attempting to catalog the arcane world of old soda pop advertising, a difficult task when you're overshadowed by the 500-lb gorilla of Coca-Cola advertising. However, this book does not do enough to fill in the gaps of soda pop history. There is no attempt made to identify the years or bottlers of the soda pop brands illustrated. The collectibles pictured are organized by type of object rather than type of soda pop or region. A simple index of known soda pop manufacturers, their locations and years in business would have added so much more to this book. And why not a timeline to give the types of collectibles a little context in the history of bottling? Just a few extra pages would have added a lot of value to a thick book which is taking up more of my shelf space than its worth!
A MUST HAVE FOR SODA COLLECTORS.......2001-01-05
A SUPER BOOK FOR THE NON-COCA COLA INDIVIDUAL. AS AN ADVID MOXIE DRINKER AND COLLECTOR I'M ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT FOR MOXIE ITEMS. THERE WERE MANY ITEMS IN PETRETTIS BOOK THAT I HAD NO IDEA EVEN EXISTED. IT REALLY ADDED TO MY EDUCATION OF VALUE, SCARCITY AND CONDITION REQUIREMENTS. MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF SODA ARE WELL DOCUMENTED--PEPSI,HIRES,DR. PEPPER,KIST,ETC. ETC.
Truly The Encyclopedia of Soda Pop Collectibles........1999-11-01
An outstanding guide to all forms of soda pop collectibles - every type imaginable. Covers signs, smalls, paper items, bottles, thermometers, fans, tin, clocks, radios, trays and coasters, mini-bottles, toys, mirrors, lighters, labels, music, and on and on. Superior black and white and full color photography. The collector won't be able to put this book down. Add it to your library. You'll refer to it often.
