Book Description
How can you tell if a river's under a spell? River trolls, rock trolls, blue-wing fairies—the usual suspects—the stretch of the Mississippi where Claire lives has rumors of them all, not that she's ever spotted any. But then Claire's cousin Duke takes a swim and sprouts a horn—a long, pointy, handsome thing. After that, Claire doesn't have much choice but to believe that something rivery is going on, especially since she's the only one who can help Duke lose his new addition. In the tradition of grand river adventures, Joseph Helgerson's tale is as twisty and unpredictable as the Mississippi River itself, while an unusual cast of characters adds pepper to the pot. Readers of all ages will enjoy getting in—and out of—trouble with Claire and Duke in this nimble, sharp, and funny fantasy.

I keep getting this one for brithday parties.......2007-09-30
This was a gift for my 6 year old twins for Christmas and I have purchased about 5-6 more to give as gifts for their friends. A good fantasy tale without pink and purple fairies (though there is fairy dust), interesting characters and a compelling, quirky plot. My husband and I competed to see who would read with my daughters as it was a good read for us too.
Juvie Fantasy with a fantastic moral.......2007-09-09
The universe created in this book - a pocket of magic trapped along the northern part of the Mississippi - is so very real and imaginable. The author has done such a fantastic job of portraying the fantastic that even his footnote on how to find the fictional town is cute and believable.
The story itself centers around a few main characters. The main three: Claire, her cousin Duke, and a strange, nameless old lady are introduced within the first few pages. Claire is the hero of this tome. She's pure and cute and feisty. Duke is her bully of a cousin, and his bullying ways lead him down a strange path.
Claire's family are not thoroughly described, and yet, you feel as if you know them anyhow, so good is the craft in these words. You can see her moody older sisters, her uncle the dog-trainer, her grandfather the storyteller.
The story did at times have a bit too much reliance on the magical, though, and I found myself a bit lost trying to follow just what the author was trying to express.
But in the end, it was a very good story with a very good hero and a very good lesson. A good easy read for any fantasy reader; a good find for a young adult.

An excellent fantasy adventure powered by strong characterization evolves........2006-12-10
Joseph Helgerson's HORNS & WRINKLES tells of a river possibly under a spell: Claire's uncertain of the rumors until her cousin takes a swim in it and sprouts a long horn. Can she solve the riddle of the changing waters and help him? An excellent fantasy adventure powered by strong characterization evolves.

Fantastic Instructional Polymer Book! .......2007-09-22
Maureen Carlson has done a wonderful job with this book in teaching armature and sculpting of whimsical characters. The book is beautiful to look at with lots of little sidenotes and pleasing backgrounds. I think that Maureen explains and shows through photographs hot to sculpt so that nearly anyone can do it. It's a great alternative to taking a class if you can't attend one of hers.
Great for beginners..........2007-08-24
I ordered this book to get a feel for Ms. Carlson's technique...very detailed instructions, many projects to choose from, overall a lovely start for anyone interested in sculpting fantasy figures.
Wonderful Book.......2007-07-17
I'm trying to learn how to sculpt & this book is very very easy to follow. I learned how to do the body armature very easily. It's very well written & easy to follow.
Fairies Gnomes & Trolls, Oh My!.......2007-07-16
An excellent book. The pictures and instructions are clear and easy to understand. The projects are fun to do. I recommend this book for anyone interested in fantasy polymer clay creations.
A "Must-Have" when learning polymer clay techniques.......2007-06-15
I am new to sculpting and polymer clay. I bought this book as well as 3 others to help me learn techniques and basic "what do I do with this lump of clay?". I browsed thru all 4 when the books arrived and I still have NOT gone back to the other 3 books - after a week! This book is a joy to read. I've skipped around projects, browsed thru the beautiful pictures and checked out the "helpful hints" placed thru-out the book. Unlike many computer manuals and "Dummies" books, the hints in this book are REALLY useful. I can see myself referring back to this book for years to come - long after I feel I'm no longer a beginner. I am definitely going to purchase other books from Maureen Carlson. She's one of those people that is not only good at what she does, she's able to explain it without making it seem like she's a Mensa memeber OR that she is "talking down" to you. TEN stars!! If you want to hear any "cons" (to go with the above "pros") I'd say that I will not do most of the projects in the book. However I didn't buy it to learn other people's projects. I just want to learn how to do what I want to do. By reviewing her projects I'm learning what I need to do different aspects of mine.

A fun read.......2007-08-05
A little girl named Treva tells her story wen she had trouble with trolls. She lives on the slopes of Mount Baldy and was hiking it to visit her cousin who lives on the other side. With her is her dog Tuffi. Trouble happens along the way as a troll will jump out and declare "I want dog"
She tricks them into taking pieces of her clothing but eventually she reaches the top and discovers they still want the dog. She declares she can fly with her skies but needs all her cloths back. She asks for a push but they can't since they are holding Tuffi. She offers to hold the dog and away she skis to the cries of "Dog, Dog, Dog!"
This is a fun little story and my little girl has taken to it. Probably because the artwork is very good!
There is also a small side story of a hedgehog who wanders into the home of the trolls.
This is a sweet well written and drawn story that will make for any child's bedtime reading. Be prepared to hand over the book so the pictures may be viewed.
How To Outsmart Trolls.......2004-11-25
Treva lives on the slopes of Mount Baldy. One day she goes to visit a relative on the other side. She will climb up with her dog and then ski down the other side. But on the way up she runs into the trolls. Each troll she meets is interested in her dog. Treva manages to trick each of them into taking some of her clothing instead (mittens, hat, sweater, boots). But just at the top the trolls decide they still want the dog. Treva has one more trick up her sleeve and winds up same with her dog and all of her clothing. The ultimate fate of the trolls is quite interesting.
This is a very nice story with an intelligent and quick-thinking protagonist. Troll legend has been change a little. There is no mention of the trolls wanting to eat the dog (a la Billy Goats Gruff) but instead to help warm them and act as a pack animal. Their fate is also one I am unfamiliar with. Many stories have trolls turn to stone in the sunlight but this transformation is quite interesting.
The illustrations are just what you expect from Jan Brett; beautiful and packed with detail. Earrings and hair ribbons should be paid attention to as well as the happy hedgehog who invades the trolls' home. A truly delightful story from an author who has written more stories about clothes than you can imagine (The Hat, The Mitten, Armadillo Rodeo, Etc).
WOW, don't hesitate, read this book.......2003-10-29
As parents, bibliophiles, and teachers, we are always on the lookout for good children's books and books with positive girl characters are always needed. This one is fabulous. Treva is smart, creative, courageous, loving, strong, competent and clever. This is exactly the kind of child that we would want our 2 1/2 year old son to be exposed to. It's a fun adventure story that shows how a child can be creative and use their imagination and other intellectual abilities to problem solve and come up with a plan in a tough situation (without resorting to physical force) and then use their physical and creative skills in executing their plan. The last few sentences of the book also add a more abstract, creative idea that expands the depth of the book depending on the age and abilities of the child who's hearing the story. The illustrations are well done - they're good and easy to follow and help the child to understand the story, They also provide additional details and threads for the child to explore. And, something I'm always on the lookout for, it was a great alternative troll story. On the chance that most of his fellow schoolmates would be talking about pirates, superheroes, fairy tale characters and such, I didn't want my son to have no idea what others were referring to simply because we tended to avoid such stories because they tend to be completely objectionable in terms of their values and characters. So, I'm always on the lookout for good alternatives, and this was a very positive way to introduce him to a troll. (As a side note, a good alternative for superheroes is "Max" by Bob Grahm; for pirates try "Pirate Pete", "Edward and the Pirates" and "Pirate Pink"; and there are many fractured fairy tales which are clear winners over the traditional sexist, violent, etc fairy tales, e.g. "The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig", "Wolf" by Becky Bloom, "The Big Bad Wolf is Good", "The Emperor [Penguin] has no clothes", and on video - CinderElmo - where Elmo goes to the Princesses ball). This was my first exposure to Jan Brett and I'm looking forward to more books.
A delightefull tale of an adventurous hike.......2003-10-08
Treva, a girl in Norway wants to go visit her cousin on the other side of a mountain near her home so off she goes with her dog, and her skis straped to her back. Her little hike soon meets with excitement when a troll tries to kidnap her dog! She comes up with a clever scheme to trick this troll, and several more trolls afterwards. At the end, she manages to trick all the trolls again at once, and gets back her mittens, gloves, hat, sweater, skis and of course, her dog!
The illustrations are absoutely beautiful, and really bring life to the story.
Trouble with trolls.......2002-10-31
This book Trouble With Trolls is a great book for both readers young and old. It is about a girl named Treva who decides to take a hike over a mountain to see her cousin. On the way up the mountain Treva runs into some trolls who want her dog,but she tricks them by giving them her boots and things like that. In the end she gets away with her dog and all her stuff back. I enjoyed this book alot myself and if you have kids I'm sure they would enjoy it to.

Book Description
When Emma and her beloved frog-turned-prince Eadric travel to Upper Montevista to ask for Eadric’s parents’ blessing on their marriage, they find his homeland in chaos: Eadric’s annoying little brother Bradston has been kidnapped by trolls! Worse, his mother won’t let Emma use magic, even to rescue Bradston, and Eadric seems suddenly a bit too fond of the girls from his past. But as they travel through unfriendly lands, battle sea-monsters and vampires, and find allies in unlikely places, Emma just might come to see her Eadric for the strong and loyal young man that he is.
With a dose of bravery and a few clever tricks both magic and not, Princess Emma takes center stage again in this utterly charming and surprising addition to E. D. Baker’s fantastic Tales of the Frog Princess.
Customer Reviews:
Princess Emma and Prince Eadric have been through a lot in their relationship over the last three books..........2007-08-12
Princess Emma and Prince Eadric have been through a lot in their relationship over the last three books. Their friendship began as frogs, when Eadric's Frog Prince curse backfired on Emma when she kissed him, and they joined forces to escape the swamp, as Emma finds that learning to hop and catch flies is harder than one might imagine. Next came the quest to turn her aunt's love back into a human (he was an otter at the time), and after that the curse that was destined to turn Emma into a mean ...uh... *witch* after the age of sixteen if she ever touched a flower.
That last one involved a bit of time traveling to fix. Along the way, Emma and Eadric have come to realize their love, as well as find a few odd friends, such as the bat, Li'l Stinker, her vampire mate, and a young dragon named Ralf.
After all of that, even Eadric's parents' hatred of magic isn't going to be enough to stop these two from getting married. Still, Emma would like to have their permission, or at least be able to say that she tried. His mother is less than pleased, however, to find out that her son is still determined to marry her. There are bigger problems in Eadric's kingdom, though, as his younger (and rather obnoxious) brother has apparently been taken by trolls. Afraid to use magic because the trolls can track her through it, Emma must help Eadric find his brother through the use of her wits instead.
This is the fourth book in the Frog Princess series. While the book is very enjoyable, I would recommend reading the first three books before this one. The series has maintained an entertaining tone through four books now, and each book does stand on its own. This one is no different, but there are lots of little things that will be more enjoyable if you know the series.
One thing I appreciated about this book and the series in general is that the romance is well constructed, even after four books. There are some side couples, but the central two are Eadric and Emma, who met in the first book as frogs, and now in this book get married. Their friendship and relationship progress through the books and reads as realistically as a romance can when you're turned into a frog, sent back in time, and suffering from curses.
Unlike the earliest book in the series, No Place For Magic doesn't draw on any particular fairytale origins. Instead it takes place in a world that works by fairytale rules. Fairies attend the wedding, trolls kidnap Eadric's brother, and witches practice "good" and "bad" magic.
This book takes Emma into Eadric's kingdom where magic is feared and gives her new prejudices to deal with. Back home, she is the Green Witch and respected by the citizens-they know she will protect them in times of need. Here magic is avoided, and she must hide her normal usage of magic and learn to rely on herself instead. In typical fairytale fashion, Emma and her magic skills are accepted once she saves the kingdom, just like Rudolf got to play with the other reindeer once he saved Christmas.
On the downside, the series is not overly unique. It takes fairytale conventions and turns them around, sometimes in different ways, and other times in the same old ways. Emma is your standard "doesn't want to be a passive" princess and Eadric is a sweet, "charming" prince, who cares as much about where his next meal is coming from as fighting, and likes to flirt with Emma (though the flirting might be as much for the fact that it unsettles her and makes her blush, as for other reasons). The other characters that surround them are also fun, but this is a fluffy book. It's a "having a bad day and need something to escape reality" read. I do think that as the series goes on, the books find more interesting turns and twists to throw in, and the characters grow a little.
Pure Magic.......2007-05-09
No Place for Magic was a magical book. The ordeals Emma and Eadric have to face are both funny and frightful. Even though I'm a little old to be reading these books I can't help but continue. Eadric and Emma find that they are still in love even after all the trials they face. A perfcet read for someone who likes magic, romance, and tons of fantastic creatures.
No Place for Magic?! It was a magical book!.......2007-04-17
No Place for Magic is the fourth book in the Tales of the Frog Princess series. It is a Fantasy book written by E.D. Baker. No Place for Magic takes place in a world where magic, giants, and dragons are nothing out of the ordinary. The story follows the life of a young princess of Greater Greensward named Emma. The thing is that she's also a very powerful witch. She's known as the Green Witch and is responsible for protecting the land with her magic. Her fiancé, Prince Eadric, lives in Upper Montevista, a kingdom that is not as accepting of magic as Greater Greensward. Eadric's parents, especially his mother, disapprove of Emma because of her powers. But when Eadric's younger brother, Bradston, is kidnaped by trolls Emma and Eadric must set out on a quest to find and bring him home.
E.D. Baker has a way of writing where she challenges your thinking in some way or another. In one of the scenes in particular she tests your trust. Aldrich and Emma had just arrived from a long journey to a small town very close to the trolls' castle. They needed rest and one of the residents invited them into their home to eat and stay the night. Emma immediately finds it odd that they live so close to man-eating trolls and when one keeps eyeing her quite suspiciously, she and Aldrich discover their true identity. After finding this they are forced to choose whether or not to trust someone they know who could potentially kill them, or ruin their friendship with one of their companions. This scene made me feel like I was the one who had to choose and kept me completely glued to the book.
No Place for Magic was very fun to read. It flowed easily, but kept me interested. Unlike many fantasy books I've read it really was a comedy. It made me laugh, but also worry. Reading the previous books in the series gives a much better understanding of the characters, but you can follow it either way. Anyone in the mood for a lighthearted book that's not too long or short, and enjoys the "once upon a time's" and "happily ever after's" will enjoy this book.
Cute, Cute, Cute.......2007-03-11
This is a adorable romantic comedy. The writing style is simple yet elegant. The characters are lovable and strong. The story is lighthearted yet not shallow, and a lot of humor is achieved by parodying traditional fairy tale elements. This novel is the best so far is the Tales of the Frog Princess series. If you like this book try Runaway Princess by Kate Coombs.

The U.S. gets a tremendous treat with the introduction of the Edge Chronicles, a fantastic boy-meets-world saga from British author-illustrator team Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell.
An un-traditional coming-of-age story, the Edge Chronicles begins with Beyond the Deepwoods, in which our put-upon protagonist, Twig (a misplaced human boy who's being raised by woodtrolls) gets a hint of his true heritage, sheds his Deepwoods upbringing, and does the unthinkable: He strays from the path. Alone for the first time and surviving by his wits, Twig must surmount all manner of perils to pursue a destiny that is whisperingly, mysteriously promised to him "beyond the Deepwoods." From one frying pan to the next (but never quite into the fire) Twig either bests or befriends a ferocious, Carroll-esque menagerie of Deepwoods denizens--from foul-mouthed halitoads and red-faced slaughterers to galumphing banderbears and piranha-Tribble wig-wigs.
Paul Stewart lays the foundation for some pretty terrific storytelling in this first book--only hinting at what lies ahead in this world where rocks float and sky pirates ride the sky above--but the contribution of illustrator Chris Riddell can't be overstated. Whether in the jowly cheeks of the gyle goblins' Grossmother or the menacing gaze of the supra-evil Gloazgomer, Riddell (an accomplished political cartoonist) manages to match Stewart's descriptions blow-for-blow in evocative pen-and-ink. Grownups and kids alike will rush to the store to pick up the second adventure, the tantalizingly titled Stormchaser
. (Ages 9 to 12) --Paul Hughes
Book Description
Young Twig lives in the Deepwoods, among the Woodtrolls, but he isn’t one of them. In a brave attempt to find out where he belongs, Twig wanders into the mysterious, dangerous world beyond the Deepwoods. He meets a collection of odd companions, such as his wise guardian, the Caterbird; the Slaughterers, a peaceful race who butcher animals for their livelihood; and the vicious, bile-swilling Rotsucker. Always watching out for the horrible Gloamglozer, whose presence haunts the thoughts of all the inhabitants of The Edge, Twig steadfastly pursues his quest until he discovers his roots, not among the trees, but in the skies. . . .
Customer Reviews:
A fun, fast moving adventure story.......2007-08-06
This is a fun read with great detailed illustrations. The story of Twig and his adventures as he leaves his adopted Wood Troll family and travels through the Deepwoods is jam packed with unusual creatures and characters. There is some angst as Twig feels deserted by everyone, but do not expect much meditation here. There is just too many predicaments to get out of.
It's Bound to be Good!.......2007-07-28
There's something about the binding of certain books that leads one to judge a book by its cover. Something tactile in the unequally sized pages that - instead of shouting "sloppy, shoddy workmanship!" as one would if odds and ends of scrap material lined every ridge of a brand new automobile, one tends to rifle through the slightly mismatched pages for the sheer enjoyment of that feeling. Something of mystery, enigma, and power in the ragged edges of the page - as if one was uncovering a secret tome with deep wisdoms hidden within, and certainly not browsing through a commercial publication at a well-stocked bookshop.
Before a word has been read, you're already wandering into a fantasy land.
I could not imagine reading Lemony Snicket without just such a binding - the words would be the same and would still have their considerable charm, but the work would still seem diminished in a paperback format.
I actually think Beyond the Deepwoods would stand up to that challenge marginally better - but that's not a decision I would like to have to make.
I was absorbed in this work from the moment I first picked it up, caught and bound by the binding as it were, and no less ensnared by Chris Riddell's artwork. As everyone knows, it is not wise to judge a book by its cover, and so I skimmed through the book itself (the uneven pages demanded this, of course.) Line drawings abound, and really help bring you into the Edgelands. Certainly, when reading the actual words, the spell that has been cast thus far is not broken.
It is a simple work at its core - a boy on the verge of becoming a young man, in search of his parentage - but that does not detract. It is not that key plot that I focus on, it is the trappings and wonder of the world itself that is fascinating. I could visualize the flora and the fauna, and found myself enjoying the environment through which the aforementioned boy travelled more than anything else. Perhaps that could be explained by my own interest in things natural that surround me, but I tend to think a good part of that came from the style of writing itself. Like the binding itself, and like the light comic touch to the illustrators pen, the words helped to build the world and allow me to immerse myself in it.
And that, I believe, is the point of any work of art.
Not much substance.......2007-05-17
I can't speak for the entire series, only the first book. It starts great, introducing a strange new world filled with dangerous creatures and flying ships. Unfortunately, the strange new world is about all this book has to offer. The main character ("Twig") is interesting, and has a lot of potential, but doesn't develop at all over the course of the book. Twig's journey has a great beginning, but much of what happens doesn't amount to anything beyond a series of oddly patched together action sequences. Even then, it's difficult to understand how the world is connected geographically. Possibly these have a larger meaning in the scope of the series, but for this book, they seemed like a tiring substitute for an actual plot. There's no progression - Twig stumbles from one random danger into the next. The reader could literally skip all but the first and last chapter and still get the main plot of the book (which in itself is a fairly tired, somewhat hackneyd feeling cliche for this genre).
Hopefully the series gets better, but why spend time on something that appears so thrown together when there are other great series out there that have wonderful character development and plot substance?
The Deepwoods have been entered.......2007-04-01
This book is very surprising, and leaves you on the edge of your seat. This story is about a boy named Twig, who learns that he was droped off in a village, and has to go through the Deepwoods before the Gloomglazer comes and kills him. There is alot of action in this story , but the main setting is in the Deepwoods. While in the deepwoods Twig strays from the path and meets strange and scary people he has never known about like the Goblins, wig wigs, and huge spiders. While he gets droped down a well, and get chased by unwelcome guests. But in between all this my favorite part is when Twig meets a Bander bear, and they become friends. That is until a very bad accident. There are alot of problems in this story but, the biggest problem is trying to make it out of the Deepwoods,by watching and making sure not to get attacked by Gloomglzers. In the end Twig gets tricked by a Gloomglazer, and also Twig gets help by an old friend. Yhe end of this book keeps you guessing. I reccomend this book to kids who like adveture.

A Polymer Clay Fantasy Figure Book.......2007-03-09
A cute book for anyone who likes to dabble in the fantasy world of polyamer clay.
Great step by step explanation.......2007-02-07
The characters in this book are somewhat goofy, however, the author provides excellent basics on armature building for creatures like horses and dragons. If you are looking for a lighter side to the fantasy world and would like to sculpt some fun creatures, this book is perfect. I think that kids will really love how achievable the sculptures in this book are for them.
One of the best art/craft technique books ever.......2006-12-04
Superb from start to finish. If you have any interest in sculpting fantastic creatures in polymer clay this is the best place to start bar none-- and it will take you far. I've done most of the projects in the book and am now very comfortable creating my own critters from scratch. The photos are fantastic with just the right amount of detail (no shots taken from halfway across the room!), the text is very clear (and funny!), and the book is simply a lot of fun overall. Can't recommend it highly enough for anyone interested in the subject.
Awsome Book.......2006-05-10
I love this book it is step by step. I made the first smiling chicken and he looked just like the pictures. Super book.
Gorgeous, but fantasy means trolls here.......2005-08-31
This book is gorgeous, with unique, detailed projects and explicit step-by-step directions. Just be forewaarned that it interprets fantasy to mean troll-like, so even Santa and the Easter bunny are trolls. I am therefore returning my copy, and just wanted to warn you what to expect. But it is an absolutely gorgeous, well-done book, and most people will love it.

Book Description
In this spectacular follow-up to their beloved Book of Norse Myths, the husband-and-wife team of Ingri and Edgar Parin d’Aulaire explore the uncanny reaches of Norse mythology, an enchanted night-world populated by trolls of all kinds—mountain trolls, forest trolls, trolls who live underwater and trolls who live under bridges, uncouth, unkempt, unbreakable, unforgettable, and invariably unbelievably ugly trolls—who work their wiles and carry on in the most bizarre and entertaining fashions.
With their matchless talent as storytellers and illustrators, the d’Aulaires bring to life the weird and wonderful world of Norse mythology.

It *IS* a worthy choice for pre-schoolers!.......2007-09-09
As someone who is trying to cultivate a love of literature AND a lengthy attention span in my homeschooled children, I *did* purchase this for my pre-schooler and he sat happily through the entire book (3 evenings worth of reading for us). The d'Aulaire illustrations were, as always, engaging, soft, and encouraging to the child's imagination. Detailed without taking over the telling of the tales. Basically, it covered all of my criteria to be purchased: well written and if it has illustrations they need to be worthy of the story and worth looking at.
The down side to this book is that it is in some ways a long treatise on trolls that happens to include some stories as examples. This means that your child ends the book having been exposed to a lot of the folk beliefs of Scandinavian trolls, with a limited number of stories, and that it doesn't simple cut-off points for bedtime reading. On the other hand, it means it is a book worth revisiting as a child grows older; in our case so our children will be versed in the folklore and belief of their ancestors. A simpler bedtime book with lovely woodblock illustrations would be Lise Lunge-Larsen's "The Troll with No Heart in His Body." It is a collection of the stories with very brief intros that can be included or omitted according to the moment (at bedtime with my pre-schooler I tend to leave them out; when reading during the day I am more likely to include them).
I'm not really suggesting one book over the other. In a search for either cultural literacy or multiculturalism, both have their place and are both well told, well illustrated and will add to your child's imaginative landscape.
D'Aulaires' Book of Trolls.......2007-05-12
Thanks for the quick shipping! The book is in perfect condition as described.
Charmed.......2007-01-24
My grandsons loved this book. The illustrations are beautiful and the tales are quaint. We will be certain to treasure this book for years.
Roll with the Troll.......2005-08-03
A great read filled with colorful illustrations & all the usual excitement you'd expect to find in a troll adventure. Of course, there is also a beautiful princess to be rescued. I don't know why Amazon lists the reading level as "baby, pre-school"!!! No baby or pre-schooler would sit through the first page. Maybe the illustrations would interest that group, but the amount of reading is far too lengthy. As a "read alone" book, I would say it is best suited for grades 3 and up.
A work of art!.......2001-07-12
This was one of my favorite books as a child. I checked it out of the library over and over . The pictures just seem to come to life, the stories are enchanting. A must have for troll collectors. I purchased a copy at long last! Thanks Amazon

Tomten books are gems.......2007-03-15
Simple little stories with a nice repeating theme, great illustrations. A fine addition to any child's library.
The Tomten.......2007-01-18
A short but cute book about one of those loveable Tomtens. The illustrations are wonderful.
The Tomten.......2006-12-13
This is an English translation of a traditional Swedish childrens tale. I thought it was a nice little story, the illustrations could have been better though. This would be a good one to get for your kid if your trying to avoid the usual pop culture garbage.
Remembering "The Tomten".......2006-12-07
I had this book when I was very small. My uncle who was a librarian gave us a library bound edition hardback. I discovered it at my grandma's house when I was visiting about 15 years ago and almost cried. I could still remember it. I brought it home and read it to my kids and they all loved it. I agree about the picture quality in the paperback, sort of washed out and not as good as the old hardbacks. If you can get hold of an older copy, from a library or something, it will probably not be in pristine shape but will have the nicer paper and illustrations.
Poor quality printing but, great book........2006-11-27
Look for the 1961 version if you care about presentation. I bought this thinking I was getting a deal. However, when I got it, I was disapointed. It's missing some pages and it has an extra 8 blank pages all throughout the book. The paper and scanning quaulity were awful. I did like one thing about it. My son was 3 when we got this book and I didn't want him to see print at the time (for personal waldorf education beliefs). The print is on one page and the pic is on the other. This format was great for us because I could cover the print page and expose only the pic page while I told the story.

Great.......2007-08-23
I love this book it can be hard sometimes to find adult coloring books that are worth coloring but I love this one.
Beautiful coloring book.......2007-03-23
I have given this coloring book to my girls two years in a row. This is an excellent alternative to Disney characters and other more commonly found coloring pages. The creatures in this book are beautiful and contain enough detail to challenge and inspire creativity in an older child, while the quality of the paper can stand the abuse of a toddler. Highly recommend.
Love it.......2006-11-10
I love this coloring book, it has a small paragraph for each picture telling about the faeries. I use acrylic paints and it's great
The "Cool" coloring book..........2005-02-21
I have to say, of all the coloring books I purchased for a 2-3 year old this was the one most loved by the adults. The child was happy with all of them, Disney, animals, butterflies, and this in an equal manner... but the grown ups thought this was wonderful. If you have a child who likes fantasy themes, or a teenager who happens to enjoy coloring, or even if you just like coloring books this one is definately a must.
