Miracle: A Celebration of New Life.......2007-08-23
most incredible....Wonderful photography....I gave this as a gift to my expecting daughter...WE have loved wandering thru the book and enjoying the memories a mother and daughter make along life's path, some day her daughter will have the same experience..... WE LOVE IT !!
She calls this a miracle?.......2007-08-16
Some old fart blows his beans up her muff and the end result is a 'miracle'? Give me a break. If that's a miracle, so is taking a dump...which is pretty much equivalent to the entire recorded output of this overmarketed, overrated, so-full-of-herself commercial twit.
What a precious book!! And beautiful music........2007-02-22
This book and CD are so soothing. I LOVE to look at this book cover to cover. I think it's the most beautiful thing ever. I pop in the CD and look at this book and I'm so filled with awe on the miracle of life. These babies touch your heart, and are captured so beautifully in this book.
Anne and Celine have given me such a gift!!!
Great for new mothers.......2007-01-03
I received this book as a gift about 1 month after the birth of my first child. I loved it! I was so amazed with babies and how perfect they are when they are born. This book uses newborn babies in the most beautiful photos. You can look at the photos and appreciate what a miracle little babies are, especially if you have just given birth to one. The music CD has many songs that I sing to my baby when he is going to sleep. Many of the songs are remakes of classics, some are her originals. Again, as a new mom, I appreciate the words of these songs and they capture how much love I feel for my new little peanut!
Only God can create life.......2006-08-06
This book is truly a celebration of life. If you read this book and still think that allowing abortions on demand is okay, then your heart has grown too hard. dls
Book Description
Just as a little boy named Sam and an old man named Henry remind the town of Easterville, best-selling author Melody Carlson reminds us as well that the true meaning of Easter is not Easter bonnets, baskets, colored eggs, candy, or decorations. It is the glorious story of a cross on a hill and an empty tomb, and the wonderful news of forgiveness that the Easter story brings us.
Customer Reviews:
Easterville.......2007-06-10
My three year old liked this book a lot. We were trying to find activities that we could do that would lead up to Easter. This is going to become part of our Easter traditions. The illustrations are a little strange but that seems to be the norm now. Other than that the story is good and does point to the reason for Easter.

Can't praise this book too highly..........2007-02-22
This story is very touching and historically accurate (it's set in a time when death of spouses and children was not uncommon). At the same time, though, the message is full of hope and joy, expressed through the mutual instruction of a small boy and a hardened wookcarver. Throughout the tale there is a wonderful, gentle explanation of Christmas through a little boy's interpretation of how each creche figure should look because of its part in the Christmas miracle.
My children (now 12, 12 and 7) listen to this book on CD almost once a week. THe drawings are exquisite. It's a shame the edition available today has reduced the drawings in size and distracted from them with some unnecessary borders. I've probably given this book as a gift over a dozen times -- to people both with and without children. Even in this new, less lovely edition, it is a gem of a book.
Jonathan Toomey book / CD.......2007-01-22
It arrived quickly and in geat shape.... no shipping problems....The story seened good and has a point to it..it was a gift for a family with children..very approbriate.. they are Irish....
Touching Christmas Tradition.......2007-01-20
This sweet story of new beginnings brings tears to my eyes each year when I read it to my students and my own children at home. Listening to James Earl Jones narrate the story with the lights dimmed, a cup of coffee in hand and a blazing fire in the woodstove makes for a truly touching Christmas tradition that I love to share with family and friends alike.
Our Favorite Christmas Book.......2007-01-15
Reading this book has become a family tradition at Christmas. It is absolutely beautiful!
glorious story.......2007-01-09
it is hard to say which offers the greater charm in this book~the illustrations or the story itself. the simple but touching story reaches out to both children and adults. it will become part of your holiday tradition!

Tapenum's Day: A Wampanoag Indian Boy In Pilgrim Times

Book Description
This entertaining and historical story shows that the actual hero of the Thanksgiving was neither white nor Indian, but God. In 1608, English traders came to Massachusetts and captured a 12-year old Indian, Squanto, and sold him into slavery. He was raised by Christians and taught faith in God. Ten years later he was sent home to America. Upon arrival, he learned an epidemic had wiped out his entire village. But God had plans for Squanto. God delivered a Thanksgiving miracle: an English-speaking Indian living in the exact place where the Pilgrims land in a strange new world.

Great story for your children.......2007-09-20
We got this book when my son was 3 years old and he loved it. It tells the story in a way that brings glory to God in the midst of difficult circumstances. Highly recommend!
GET ANOTHER PIECE OF THE PUZZLE.......2007-01-11
If you want your kids to really know the full story of the first Thanksgiving, then you cannot forego this book. Squanto is one of those stories that has not remained at the fore front of Thanksgiving tales. And, that fact is a crying shame. This story will not only speak facts, it will teach several moral lessons that the child in all of us needs to learn. It is a reminder of how we can be thankful no matter what life hands us in the way of trials. Read this book to your kids and inspire them to live their best lives!
Very nice.......2006-12-02
This is an excellent book for teaching the history of Thanksgiving. The story is well told, and the writing is well crafted. The pictures are remarkable; you can spend a lot of time looking into the faces of the characters, which are rich with emotion and humanity and realism. This book is a great investment.
Beautiful.......2005-09-30
This was an incredibly beautiful rendering of Squanto's life. I highly recommend the book to all ages.
Excellent Thanksgiving book!.......2003-10-24
This is an excellent resource to teach children the true meaning of Thanksgiving and how much God loves each of his children and has a wonderful plan for all of them. I would definitely recommend this book!

What a sweet, sweet message this book has...describes in a unique way just how much a child is loved.
You Are My Miracle.......2007-01-19
!!!!!!Wonderful "lyrics" and beautiful message- reads like a song. This is a beautiful gift from any parent to a child who brightens your life. This would also be a lovely gift to a new parent.
Sweet book.......2007-01-19
Wonderful book at the chirstmas season, to help parents take a moment and read with their children. It is such a sweet book.
Highly recommend.......2007-01-10
As a psychotherapist, I would wish every child would have the opportunity to inscript this message on their heart; moreover, to have someone in their life who feels this way about them. It is a precious and worthwhile book for every family.
Sweetest Christmas book EVER.......2006-12-13
I love this book, and I'm on Amazon to buy copies for my own parents for Christmas.
This book embodies everything the relationship between a parent and a child is, and it has become a Christmas tradition at our house, to read it together on Christmas Eve. The best part is, my son Benjy enjoys it now, but he won't entirely understand until he is grown and has children of his own.
This is a beautiful book, and I highly recommend it. I don't have a copy of "You Are My I Love You," but if it's a tenth as good as this book, I'll need to get a copy of that book as well.

Between the covers of this elegant volume dwells a thorough and thoroughly engrossing compilation of stories, songs, recipes, artwork, prayers, and commentary on the beloved Jewish holiday, Passover. Eric A. Kimmel, acclaimed author of more than 60 titles for children, including the Caldecott Honor Book Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins, outdoes himself in this mother of all Passover books, going well beyond the typical retelling of the Passover story. Using the seder, the ceremonial Passover meal, as a starting point, Kimmel walks readers through every step of the holiday, using ancient and modern stories and illustrations to explain the legends and history behind the rituals. He includes contributions from writers such as Nina Jaffe, Debbie Friedman, and Rabbi David Schaps (a.k.a. Grandma Tirzah), and stunning artwork that spans 3,000 years and four continents, for a truly beautiful, comprehensive treasury that will be brought to the Seder table along with the Haggadah for years to come. (All ages) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
In this rich and fascinating compilation, beloved storyteller Eric A. Kimmel presents every element--from beginning to end -- of this ancient holiday through stories, songs, poems, prayers and art. Reflecting three millenniums of Jewish life around the world, the book will not only make this multi-layered holiday accessible to people of every background. But it will also make this timeless-ever changing holiday relevant to today's readers. (continued on next page.....)
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful art, uneven stories and scholarship.......2007-03-23
This beautifully presented book, with its lovely art printed on fine paper, seduces the buyer into thinking that it will be a perfect Seder companion. But, though it has useful information, its scholarship is only randomly reliable. Kimmel is unaware of the primary symbolism of the roasted egg, imagines that Ashkenazic Jews refrain from serving lamb at their Seders only because it was absent from their diets in eastern Europe and, in a misbegotten stab at ecumenism, makes the astonishing assertion that "the
Exodus is as important for Christians as it is for Jews." The book can make a pleasant addition to the Passover meal if it's served with a grain of salt.
Wonders and Miracles.......2007-01-05
This beautiful and unique guide to the Passover Seder, and winner of the National Jewish Book Award, will enchant anyone who sees it. It is a compendium of stories, songs, poems, prayers and commentaries on the ancient Jewish festival of freedom that will surely make its way into the homes of Jews and Gentiles alike. Jewish families will happily use it annually at their Seders, relishing in the lush detail, simple explanations, and outstanding artwork, while others will enjoy it for the beautiful compilation of story, song and historical art that spans three thousand years.
"Seder" means "order" in Hebrew and, as anyone who has ever participated in one knows, the order of the prayers, songs and stories recited there are prescribed in the book called the "Haggadah," which means, "The Telling." There are dozens of different styles of Haggadahs, but all of them follow the same order. However, not all Haggadahs (especially ones used by families with small children) come with clear explanations and commentaries on the various rituals associated with the holiday. Kimmel understands this perennial situation and it is here where this book truly shines.
Kimmel spent seven years compiling this book. He has illuminated each aspect of the ritual Seder with a poem here, an explanation there, and glowing throughout the text, gorgeous paintings or illuminated manuscript reproductions that have been chosen with perfection. Short stories or songs by noted authors and musicians are included, and will surely be a welcome addition to any Seder where squirmy children are in attendance.
The book's opening entices the reader with Kimmel's original prose poem entitled, "Night Journey".
Get ready. We are going on a journey. It will last only one night, but it will take us a long, long way.
We will travel from slavery to freedom.
From sorrow to joy.
From a country not our own to the land given to God to our ancestors.
For this is the night of Passover, the night when our ancestors left Egypt, the House of Slavery.
They left on foot in haste, carrying their belongings on their backs, driving their flocks and herds before them.
We are going with them. Our journey is called the Seder. Our guide is a special book called the Haggadah. It tells the Passover story.
Get ready. We are leaving soon.
Our journey is about to begin.
Child or adult, who can resist that opening? This is a book destined to become a classic of Jewish children's literature.
Award winner from the Association of Jewish Libraries!.......2005-01-26
This book won the National Jewish Book Award from the Jewish Book Council and was named a Sydney Taylor Honor Book by the Association of Jewish Libraries in 2004. In addition, Eric Kimmel was named the 2004 Sydney Taylor Body-of-Work Award winner for his overall contributions to Judaic children's literature.
This "Passover companion" follows the order of the seder but inserts explanations, background information, interpretations, and illustrative stories that flesh out the meaning of each traditional step. The book provides a very complete package, and the author explains that it should be read before the holiday and used as a resource during the seder, as it is too long to be used as a haggadah.
The reader is immediately struck by the sumptuousness of the illustrations, which are reproduced in vibrant color from many sources. We see details from medieval haggadot, photographs of Judaic ritual objects, paintings, and even a few modern book illustrations. Captions tell us the source of each illustration and explain the significance of the objects or actions depicted. The book's design includes thick paper, plenty of white space, and decorative elements in gold.
Most spreads include an illustration, but there are a few that are somewhat text-heavy. Some of the longer sections, especially those that retell the stories of Joseph and Moses, are a bit dry. The text is clearly written but frequently employs sophisticated vocabulary; the book is aimed at families rather than at child-readers. Older children and teens (and adults) will come away from this book with a deeper understanding of Passover and its rituals.

Customer Reviews:
Great book!.......2007-07-21
What a wonderful way to "read" a book with a young child.....sharing the pictures and thoughts together is a great way to fire up their young minds, by putting their own thoughts into each picture. Love the story's moral as well.
Absolultely Brilliant and Beautiful.......2006-11-25
Anyone who has looked thru my precious book always gives it back to me with tears in their eyes.
What a heartwarming story -- a fairy tale that could almost come true; and you kind of wish it would!!
The illustrations in this book come alive with a powerful simplicity.
The artwork is the kind that leads your eye into all its multi-faceted (yet simply rendered) details, and each time I look at it, I am rewarded with more details that I had missed before.
I can almost hear the anticipatory almost-sacred hush on that village's cold, snowy, almost deserted streets on this very special, last day before Christmas.
A VERY special book!!
A VERY MOVING CHRISTMAS STORY.......2006-10-06
The women at work called this book to my attention: a tale of a poor woman who suffers injustice, rights wrongs, and is rewarded in an extraordinary way. My co-workers had all gotten copies, loved the story which moved them to tears, and planned giving them as holiday gifts to the people they knew. I confess tearing up a bit myself. As Christmas approaches my thoughts turn back to this story which I would like to recommend to you all. It is the first book I've seen consisting of pictures without words. And that opens up the delightful possibility of sitting with your child and telling the story in your own words, or even better letting the child tell you the story. Children seem to be more observant of the details in the pictures than adults. The book is obviously useful for all sighted people regardless of their language or literacy level. A great "read" and a great gift to give at the holidays.
The Best of the Best.......2005-12-05
I am delighted to see that this book is back in print. When I first discovered it, I wanted to buy a copy for everyone I knew. Unfortunately for me at that time, it was no longer available!
This book is a fresh delight for me every year when I bring it out of storage and "read" it to my youngest children. Its beautiful artwork and powerful message bring tears to my eyes without fail. I love to hesitate at the crucial page, and ask my littlest "who will help her? who will help the poor old lady?" and see what answers he/she comes up with (I have a different "littlest" every year, with 11 children). Not a single one has ever been able to guess the delightful truth, but every child has laughed with delight when the page is turned.
Buy this book. Savor it. Buy it for others. It deserves to be better known than it is!
A SMALL MARVEL.......2004-02-01
I was so happy to find a Christmas book that is really about
Christmas instead of toys, Christmas trees, and Santa Claus.
This book not only addresses Christmas but the real meaning
of Christmas as the old woman undoes the wrongs that have been
done by vandals. The fact that it is a wordless book makes it
possible for children of most ages to help make up the story
line too, which is a plus. Then they also can interpret the
Christmas story.
Amazon.com
Lovingly reproduced to match the original 1947 printing, this handsome hardback edition of Miracle on 34th Street comes in a gift box with a painted wooden tree ornament.
Screenwriter Valentine Davies's film classic has been so thoroughly enshrined in the Christmas canon that it's impossible to read this book without picturing Maureen O'Hara and Natalie Wood as the harried Macy's parade organizer and her precocious daughter. But what makes this gift-box edition interesting is a short note describing the book's production, which happened at a frantic pace--Davies fairly credits director David Seaton for much of the book's inspiration, and over 400,000 copies were rushed through to premiere simultaneously with the film.
Other print versions of Miracle on 34th Street might be more fun (including one illustrated by beloved kids book author Tomie de Paola), but for that '40s, old-timey appeal, this gift box can't be beat (not to mention it being a safe, easy go-to for stuffing stockings and bringing gifts to holiday parties). (Ages 9 to 12) --Paul Hughes
Book Description
Generations of believers in hope and goodwill have made Valentine Davies’ Miracle on 34th Street a treasured part of their holiday traditions. Millions of copies of this award-winning story have sold since its first publication in 1947, delighting readers of all ages. A facsimile edition of the book is now faithfully re-created, offering a new generation--and fans of the original--the beauty of the classic 1940s design. Details of how the book came to be written, and made into a beloved film, are included in a brief historical note.
Customer Reviews:
Great book if you liked the Edmund Gwen movie........2006-04-02
I bought this book because someone here reviewed it as "Better then the movie" Well it is exactly the same except for an extra line once every 20 pages or so.But is is a great book.
Possibly The Best Christmas Book Ever Written-.......2005-11-29
Wow! I love this book... and even now as 18 I still read this book to get me into that "Christmas spirit" I so desperately want to be in... I read this book every year it's one of my regulars on my holiday reading list.
Valentine Davies weaves such an impressive story that it will make the most skeptical child believe and it will make us that no longer can- wish we could. This is simply the perfect holiday story- one a parent could read to a child before they go to sleep or a story that a moderate second grade reader could read on their own without any difficulty...
I love reading this more than I do watching the classic version of the movie for Valentine Davies makes this book more magical than the movie could ever hope to be. All in all if you want to buy a book for the holidays- for someone on your shopping list this is definately one to buy! Or even own for yourself!
Miracle on 34th Street - LD NY.......2004-03-11
I read the book Miracle on 34th Street by, Valentine Daviesý. It was a fabulous Christmas fiction book. The main message or theme that I got from the book was anythingýs possible-you just have to believe.
Doris Walker is in charge of running the Macyýs Day Parade, which takes place on Thanksgiving Day. When her Santa Clause slacks off last minute she finds Kris Kringle and hires him to do the job. Kris does an amazing job. The only bothersome thing is he really and truly believes that he is Kris Kringle-Santa Clause. Doris doesnýt believe him, and thinks he might be insane. Along with Doris not believing in Santa Clause, nor does her 6 year old daughter Susan. Kris however wants to change that, he wants to make them believe..he believes Christmas is all about believing. Doris and her boss think Mr. Kringle is insane so they send him to a mental institution. Mr. Kringle then worries-what is going to happen with Christmas? How could he disappoint millions of kids all over the world? He some how has to find a way to save Christmas!
I loved the book. I read it around Christmas which seemed to make the book even better. It was a memorable book that I will remember constantly throughout the holiday season. It was so good I might read it every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It would be nice to have a tradition like that.
This book didnýt really relate to my Christmas Holiday Season. As a child I always believed in Santa unlike Susan did. My parents encouraged the belief of Christmas and Santa Clause until my brother and I started questioning and figuring things out. Still till this day I believe Christmas was always better when I was young and believed. It made the Holiday Season seem so magical.
Read Miracle on 34th Street to see if Susanýs Christmas was magical!

My parents encouraged the belief of Christmas and Santa Clause until my brother and I started questioning and figuring things out. Still till this day I believe Christmas was always better when I was young and believed. It made the Holiday Season seem so magical.
Read Miracle on 34th Street to see if Susan's Christmas was magical!
When You Believe.......2002-01-02
Doris Walker works at Macy's. She's in charge of choosing people to be in the parade, but when her Santa Claus shows up drunk she fires him and hires Kris Kringle on the spot. Kris believes he's Santa Claus, and Doris not believing in anything ignores his insistent opinion.
Of course, Doris has her 6 year old daughter Susan thinking there's no Santa Claus either, and Kris makes sure he changes the little girls mind. But trouble begins when he is admitted to Bellevue, a mental institution, and now with the help of his friend Fred, he must try to get out or Christmas will be ruined for everyone. Especially little Susan.
This book is truly wonderful, and it shows that if you just believe anything is possible.
Book Description
Around the world, Jews celebrate the miracle of Passover with a Seder. In this follow-up to last season's acclaimed The Miracle of Hanukkah, Josh Hanft retells the story of the Jews' exodus from Egypt, explaining both the history and modern traditions of the Seder. From the story of Moses and the exodus from Egypt to the description of the Seder plate, the significance of one of the most important holidays of the Jewish calendar is explored.
Inventive lift-the-flaps will engage and inform young readers, and Seymour Chwast's luminous artwork truly brings this holiday to life.

The Miracles of Passover.......2007-08-06
This book offers a straightforward retelling of the Passover story for young children with eager hands. Illustrations are colorful and the "lift-the-flap" element offers delightful visual surprises. A double page spread of the fleeing Jews at night is compelling, and when Moses' staff turns into a snake just to eat the magician's staff, the result is indeed miraculous in composition and humor. However, the story is recalled in a neutral, omniscient voice, which does not give the reader any emotional sense of the dramatic story. After retelling the story of the Exodus from Egypt, Hanft uses the last pages to explain some of the history of Seder and the special foods on the Seder plate. He concludes with the traditional wish, "We wait for the time when Elijah will announce the day of peace for everyone. We end the seder with these words, NEXT YEAR IN JERUSALEM." For ages 3-6.
