I use this book as a year-end treat for the students I tutor in reading. The book touches on aerodynamics and science with fun-to-make paper airplanes as the theme. My students enjoy the challenge of folding, tweaking, and flying the airplanes. The paper that is included is sturdy and eye catching. Both boys and girls enjoy the projects in this book which range from simple to difficult. Each plane is different and demands that the student read and fold carefully. The vocabulary is stimulating.

Looking for something to do with your child? This book is it! I got this for my son who is 5. My husband made these planes with him and they both had a lot of fun! Some of the planes are for indoors and some are made to be taken outside. Our 5 year old can not make the planes by himself but his cousin who is 11 can. The book comes with interesting paper to make the planes with, however any scrap book paper or regular copy paper will work.

I bought this book for my five year old son, who has been totally into making paper airplanes lately. This book is great! It comes with clear, easy to understand instructions that are simple enough for a child to understand (he's still a bit young to do it himself, but he loves to watch them being made, and loves flying the end results!). The book comes with some great paper, too! It comes with ten different paper plane instructions, with a rating of difficulty on each. I also like how sturdy the book is- it's made of some heavy card stock material and comes with great pictures and illustrations on where to fold, how to fold, etc. The whole family has enjoyed this book- I highly recommend it!

Great pictures and diagrams of how to exactly build each airplane. My 5 year old son and I can really make some great airplanes with this book. The paper at the back is a bonus, but we haven't even used it yet and still love the book.

My son, 8 years old loves this book. The instructions are clear and made it easy for him to jump right in and start making airplanes. He even took the book to school and taught some friends how to fold different planes at recess. Having the paper, and a very good amount, included is great.

Perfect, in that it reflects the fascination of small children with the things that loom large in their worlds (like buttons) and the reassuring happy ending with Corduroy going home with the one little girl in the world whom he was meant to love.
Board book version is disappointing..........2007-06-13
This book is basically a primer about the bear; there's no story to speak of and the little African American girl is not in the book at all. I bought this book because I was looking for a more durable version of the original Corduroy for my toddler. I am seriously thinking about returning this as I was looking to add to our library of children's books featuring African American characters. Bottom line: this is a completely different book than the original Corduroy. Don't be fooled like I was.
That having been said...it probably is a pretty good "learn to read" book, the pages are nice and big and the illustrations are cute.
The bear every child wants.......2007-05-24
This book is about sweet, honest, slightly battered teddy bear who longs for a home. Although he lives in a grand shopping center filled with fabulous wealth, this is no substitute for the warmth and affection of a mother. I like this story because it stresses the importance of not only receiving love, but also about giving it. Corduroy is lucky enough to find Lisa, a little girl who is thrilled to offerhim a home. Corduroy is exactly the bear every child wants...
The book is a certain winner for your child. Another great reading that I recommend are Why Some Cats are Rascals, Book 1, "Why Some Cats are Rascals, Book 2", Why Some Cats are Rascals ( Book 3), The Giving Tree, Love You Forever and anything by Silverstein.
Old favourite.......2007-05-11
I bought this book as we had had it in our family as a paperback until it wore out. Seeing Amazon.com was offering it as a special discounted hard cover copy I bought it to share it with my granddaughter and hope she enjoys it as much as my own four boys did. It is a very poignant story about love and acceptance which, despite its unsophisticated illustrations, touchs the heart straight away. Recommended to all parents.

Kids love this one for it's low-octane "conflict," easy artwork, and happy resolution. This one belongs in any parent's library of the 100 books that will be on the kids' shelf.

This might be the only book on doll clothes you'll ever need........2007-03-13
Before buying this book, I would buy patterns for doll clothes. Sometimes I bought patterns from big companies like Simplicity and sometimes I bought patterns from small outfits. Of course, they were very specific patterns for only a few outfits for only a few limited dolls. Ms. Dodge's book is like owning every pattern for every doll ever created! She provides many basic pattern pieces in a variety of sizes. It will be up to you, however, to design your doll's outfit. Don't worry--the book will show you how! You will also make your own custom pattern pieces in order to get the right fit. This book covers baby dolls, girl dolls and even boy dolls. The only doll that is not represented is the womanly-figured modern fashion doll, but once you have mastered what is covered in this book, you will be able to dress those dolls too. The author provides lots of good, detailed photos and beautiful line drawings of possible outfits to inspire you. My confidence in dressing dolls has increased a hundred-fold. Now I know that if I can dream it, I can achieve it. And you can too!

Excellent book with beautiful pictures. Leaves plenty of room to your own creativity. Desciptions are straightforward. It's hard for me to say if it would be good for beginners, since I'm trained in dressmaking and patternmaking, but it seems easy to figure out. I can't think of any book I'd rather use when making doll clothes - it has everything.

The Dolls Dressmaker Book is the most complete pattern book I have ever found. It includes everything one could want to dress their doll. Clothes, underwear, accessories, hats, shoes. Excellent instruction information on assembly, mix-n-match pieces. Great rcommendations of trims, laces, etc. All full size patterns grouped by size, easy access in back of book.

Fun book for little readers.......2007-08-13
My daughter got this book at 7 months old, and she has loved it from the beginning. She loves to feel all the different textures, and now that she is 11 months old she loves to "read" it on her own. The book is durable and colorful, and I recommend it.
Fuzzy, Fluffy, Squashy Fun.......2005-09-13
Our twin babies are enjoying these "That's Not My..." books. These are more engaging than some of the other touchy-feely books we've got. Some books put materials in the pages for the babies to touch, just for the sake of having them there - and the words don't seem to "match up" with the thing we're feeling, or they are so stretched for material that it barely makes sense what we're feeling. Many of the "touchy-feely" books simply lack story content. That's not true of these Usborne touchy-feelies. The text is simple and makes sense to toddlers, and gives them a wider vocabulary of adjectives -- especially "tactile" words, like "fuzzy," "fluffy," "shiny," "hairy," and even (in "That's Not My Teddy"), "squashy!"
For bigger babies (my babies are just one year old), it's neat to notice a cute little mouse who shows up on every page. That's one thing I love about Usborne baby books - even when the babies are tired of looking at the main story, there's always the cute little mouse to notice and talk about!
Our Son's Favorite! .......2005-09-09
Our son is now 5 months old and this is his favorite book. He loves trying to grab the mouse on every page and knows where to feel on all the teddies. He likes books in general, but you can really see him tune in when we pull this one out - he loves it! We can't wait to try out the others in this series!
Also, as the other reviewers mentioned, a very sturdy book compared to other touchy-feelies. It has thick pages and a wide variety of durable textures.

There are ALL KINDS of touch and feel books out there now, many more than there were 7 years ago during my prior go-round as a mother of a baby! I find the quality varies a lot. So far, this is the winner for me! The pages are very thick, so the touchable parts of them can be thick also, and really be something you can touch. When the teddy shown has a soft nose, it's truly soft fabric, and feels like it will stay that way. The shiny eyes on another are big enough to really be noticed. The pages are simple and uncluttered, and the story is basic enough to be understood by a young listener. I plan on buying more from this series!

This book does not only things too feel and touch - it has a very good story too. You get to follow the white mouse as it is looking for its teddy. My 19 months old likes to look in it and my 5½ years old reads it.

I purchased this book after reviewing several other similar books with CDs. This book has 4 stories and 8 poems. My son is almost 3 and keeps saying "Winnie the Pooh bear stories". He absolutely loves it! We were keeping the CD in the car so he could hear it on drives and we would read the book together for story time. But now he wants to hear it all the time! The female voice who narrates is wonderful and has a very soothing voice. I would highly recommend this book. It has quickly become our family favorite!
Extremely disappointed.......2005-08-27
I made an unfortunate selection in purchasing this storybook before a similar review (H. Hudson Aug 14) was posted. Had I waited I could have benefited from that review. Instead I must post a similar review. The most disappointing thing about this storybook is the CD does not let the child know when to turn the page. We also expected to hear familiar voices for Pooh and the gang rather than just a full narration. At this price there are much better selections if you are going to be turning the pages yourself.

I bought this for my preschooler and am very disappointed. There are no chimes or similar reminder of when to turn the page. She cannot read it without my continuous presence to turn the page. It would be okay for children who read, though.

I buy a lot of books from Amazon and the majority are always cheaper than I can find in the stores HOWEVER this book has a list price of $14.95 and it was at Costco for $9.99.
That being said, my two year old LOVES this book and CD. We've listened to and read it (feels like) a hundred times in the last two months. The stories are intermingled with rhymes all sung by a female voice that clearly enunciates each word. My 8 month old loves when I sing him some of the rhymes at bedtime.
We had such success with this book that I bought "Marsupial Sue" by John Lithgow. The music score is excellent but it is difficult for my toddler to understand the words -- so I am back shopping for the Disney CD Storybooks.

As with all of the Corduroy Lift the Flap books (Easter, Christmas, Beach, Halloween, Firehouse, Zoo, Birthday--no longer in print, and Library), this one rates 5 stars......and we own them all! These rate as our absolute favorites in our book collection. The text is not lengthy and the flaps keep my two 1/2 year olds hands busy enough for me to read the text before he is on to the next page. For this reason, they were the only books we read for a long time. The illustrations are fantastic! The story takes you on the course of Corduroy's day-- packing for the beech, finding a spot in the sand, taking a swim, flying a kite, getting ice cream and going on rides on the boardwalk, and looking for treasures in the sand. Enjoy!

We bought this book just before we went on a beach vacation for our 18 month old. He loves Corduroy. This book has great pictures and the flaps make it very interesting. I looked really hard for a good beach book for my son. This one is the best!

This is a beautiful book, with lovely kaleidoscopes for inspiration. However, I am looking for a VERY beginning book for someone who knows absolutely nothing. This book isn't it. Nice to look at, though.
Not challenging AT ALL.......2001-12-12
I purchased this book after reading dozens of reviews, saying it was challenging and wonderful. This book is for small children, it's not challenging, and it only explains how to make 2 and 3 mirror scopes, it doesn't even explain the 4 and 5 mirrored scopes. Buying this book was a mistake, and it was a waste of money. This book was supposed to have informative and easy instruction to build complex scopes, I've never built one before, and just glancing at the pages, im grossed out. The bulk of each instruction is about how to decorate the scope, the only challenge is to add stained glass, or make a wheel. My advice to any serious student is to not purchase this, keep looking for something that is more about kaleidoscopes, and less about who makes the prettiest kaleidoscope and how to make the best scopes. That's a basic summary of this kindergarden level book. I would give it no stars, but I can only go as low as 1! This book is a joke, stay away!!!!
Very informative book.......2001-11-30
I have been making kaleidoscopes professionally for years prior to this book coming out. When I found it, I fell in love. It inspired new creations, yet also returned the excitement of simplicity of the designs. I recommend this book to anyone getting started in kaleidoscope making. Some of the references need to be ignored, butitis worth buying. Nice, easy to read, good images, instructions are easy to follow. One of my top two picks in books on kaleidoscopes (I think I should know cause my library of kaleidoscopes books is now at 15).

An Eye Opening Book on Kaleidoscopes.......2000-01-02
Thom Boswell has written a wonderful book on the art of Kaleidoscopes. It opens with a brief history and explanation of the science behind these magical instruments. Next follows a beautiful gallery of color images which highlights not only the splendor of the inside of the scope, but also the creativity and artistic skill of many kaleidoscope makers. The pictures taken inside the scopes are the clearest and most beautiful I've ever seen. And the artistry of the exteriors is beyond belief. Many artists are featured and their scopes displayed for your enjoyment. You will be touched by each as they work their own unique magic in designing and building some of the most wonderful scopes imaginable. Finally, Mr. Boswell provides you with plans and projects for building your own kaleidoscopes. There are designs for scopes made from PVC pipe, stained glass, wood, brass and other materials. Each project is fully explained and illustrated and even a novice will be successful at kaleidoscope building using these instructions. This section of the book was a real eye opener for me, as I had never imagined that I could create a kaleidoscope myself. After reading this book, I have become an avid scope maker (...). The Teddy Bear's Picnic was a fairly good book. I needed to read it two times to really understand it. It would be confusing for kids under 8 years old. The way the author and illustrator showed the humans dressed in teddy bear costumes was a clever contrast to the teddy bears wearing human masks. It kept this reader guessing as to who the real teddy bears were. The illustrations were vibrant in color and followed with the authors text. Overall it was a fun and playfyul book beautifully illustrated, but hard to follow.

If you and your child (or even if you don't have a child) love the song and story of the Teddy Bear's picnic, then you will adore this book.
The text is pretty straight forward - as well all expect it to be. But the illustrations are just delightful - full colour on every page, teddies everywhere you look and getting into all manner of interesting things. This is what is so charming about this book - the sheer delight of finding a bear and seeing what it is doing - is it eating cake? Climbing a tree? Falling asleep? Avoiding the children in disguise?
It may be a difficult book to find, but it is just lovely, and well worth the effort.

This is such a fun book to read to my kids! The rhyming verse has a nice rythem to it, but its the pictures we enjoy the most. They make you feel like you are peeking through the trees at this wonderful picnic! This book is a treasure!

My 1 year old son loves this book. I usually sing it to him. I find the illustrations to be most stimulating and rewarding. I highly recommend this book!!
