Vague.......2002-04-06
I was not happy with all the items marked NA(not available), RI(recent issue), etc. The book, in my opinion, is not up to date & has very little value to someone who wants to price out their collection
Collector Plates Guide.......2002-02-26
This book is one of the few out there that is of any value in regards to Collector Plates. Although it doesn't always give you an indication on todays current price, it does tell you what the issue prices was, and gives a guideline as to whether the plate is now worth more than what was paid for it, the same, or less. I deal in Collector Plates personally and as a business, and I do use the book as a reference tool pretty often. I do recommend this book as a general guideline to those interested in collecting or selling plates.
A great reference for plate collectors!.......2001-11-19
This book is a great reference for plate collectors. Although an update is probably due, the book still offers information that holds in today's market. After pricing and selling some 200 collector plates, I have found the prices in the book to be "on the mark". Don't hesitate to add this to your resource collection.
Official Price Guide to Collector Plates.......1999-11-27
Disappointed, Was not up to date. Did not have complete listings of series. Plates as far back as 1993 are listed as recent issue. secondary prices don't seem to be updated.
Book Description
This book features photographs of marks alongside their actual pieces for perspective. Other books simply show line drawings, but this massive encyclopedia educates collectors and researchers on what the marks actually look like on a piece of pottery or porcelain. Over 7,500 photographs of around 4,000 marks and items, from Abingdon to Zsolnay, are featured in this huge publication. Organized alphabetically by company, this book is the most user-friendly marks book you'll find, telling readers quickly what it looks like, when it was made, and who made it. Appraisers and dealers will find this guide extremely useful; they can learn a little bit about many different marks, rather than having to weed through extensive historical information on the thousands of marks produced. As an added feature, cross-referencing indexes are provided, by date, shape, and company. AUTHORBIO: Chad Lage is an appraiser of antiques, collectibles, and residential contents, and owner of Hidden Treasures Enterprises in Evansville, Indiana. He has been accredited by the International Society of Appraisers and has been an appraiser for the PBS television series, Antiques Roadshow. Chad is also involved in his local prestigious antiques show as a dealer and porter, and volunteers for the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science. REVIEW: This book is the first book on marks that is a pictorial reference, with actual photographs of marks alongside the pieces they appear on. Arranged alphabetically by company, this massive encyclopedia educates collectors and researchers on what the marks actually look like on a piece of pottery or porcelain. Over 7,500 photos of around 4,000 marks and items from Abingdon to Zolsnay are featured.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent reference book.......2007-09-07
Excellent resource book for china & pottery marks, quality photographs of many marks, well organized. Highly recommend.
Sorry, but it's not all good.......2007-05-23
The idea of putting a picture of an item together with its mark is admirable, and the book is useful in this regard. It is not a complete guide, but then again, no book of marks is.
However, the date information given for some pieces (for example, Syracuse China) is very inaccurate, and there are misidentifications that should not have happened in a book of this type. I would not rely on the dates shown in any way whatsoever.
The unfortunate part is that there are sources that could have been consulted to obtain the correct information (including titles from the same publisher).
best book out of all WOW!!!.......2007-03-16
I would write forever about how great this book is But I will do this I am looking everywhere for more books like this and I cannot find anymore. This book Is one I take to every auction and flea market Well IT stays with me all the time never know what I might come up on. This is the best book pictures are great and sooooooo HELPFULL worth a goldmind to me. I do not know how to live without it. I think because there are no more like this I am going to make a book of all my stuff . Who has time to read and read when you are on a journey of finding the treasures out there. THis book has helped me make so much money too. I await to find another book to help find plates etc etc. BUY IT worth more than what I paid.
PERFECT.......2007-01-05
This book is what I have been looking for for quite some time now. It gives a VERY comprehensive overview on marks from all over the world, and their usage years. If you are, like me, a seller of antiques and vintage items....need a quick reference for your research to pin down the dates? THIS IS IT! This book will NOT give you company history and prices. It will however give you the first step in identifying that piece that you found in grandma's attic years ago. Excellent photos for EVERY piece mentioned. Also, it is in alphabetical order, VERY easy maneuvering.
5 STARS all the way!
NICE PICTURES AND MARKS.......2006-11-07
THIS BOOK IS GOOD FOR THOSE OF YOU WANTING NICE COLOR PICTURES AND CORRESPONDING MARKS. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT A PRICE GUIDE AND THERE'S VERY LITTLE HISTORY. IT WOULD BE HARD TO FIND YOUR MARK IN THIS BOOK.
Book Description
This book contains more than 550 color photographs, as well as illustrations and original catalog pages of fine Dresden, Meissen, and KPM porcelains. Background information on the town of Dresden, the companies, and the manufacturing and decorating processes are provided, as well as sections on Helena Wolfsohn, Carl Thieme, Donath Company, A. Lamm, F. Hirsch, and R. Klemm. For each studio discussed, the authors provide historical information, style, forms, marks, and photos.2004 values. AUTHORBIO: Jim and Susan Harran, antique dealers for 18 years, specialize in English and Continental porcelains and antique cups and saucers. Information is included on what Dresden porcelain is, how it is made, and how it is decorated. A history and marks of the six largest Dresden studios, a representative sample of their products, and a realistic fair market value range are provided. Catalog reprints and an index are also included.
Customer Reviews:
For the beginner.......2007-05-04
This book is just right for the beginner. It gives a bit of history,a price range on some pieces and some lovely pictures but not many identifying marks. It looks lovely on your table, but if your looking for identifying marks, and dating your dresden this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Good book to get into know the quality of the porcelian art........2007-04-03
You can reach to know the value and identification of the arts.

A Hit as a Gift.......2007-05-07
Purchased this book as a gift for my wife, who has some Limoges dinnerware. She loved the book and has been able to identify much of her collection with its help.
The Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain.......2007-02-08
If you collect Limoges Porcelain this is an excellent reference book, with a large section on marks and their dates. The colour pictures identify many patterns, along with a detailed section on manufacturers and a history of Limoges porcelain.
Do not recommend.......2006-08-14
I purchase books online based on the reviews so lets be honest. Debby DuBay's book Antique Limoges at Home is the book to purchase. Gaston's book has terrible photographs & just can not compare to DuBay's books.
Gaston and Dubay my favorite authors have collaborated........2004-04-27
Mary Frank Gaston wrote the foreword to Debby Dubay's Antique Limoges at Home and the introduction to Collecting Hand Painted Limoges Porcelain and I'm thrilled. Two experts collaborating to give collectors all of the info they require to collect successfully. Please write a book together.
Thanks to Gaston found Dubay's Collecting Hand Painted Limog.......2004-04-16
Gaston recommends Debby Dubay's trilogy: Collecting Hand Painted Limoges Porcelain Boxes to Vases and Antique Limoges at Home. She wrote the intro for Collecting Hand Painted Limoges Porcelain and the foreword for Antique Limoges at Home. She calls Dubay's shop a porcelain's paradise - and she was right. Thank you Ms Gaston for supporting author Debby Dubay!

Very happy arrived quickly .......2007-09-13
The book was exatly what I was looking for, a very no hassel transaction which makes it a real pleasure. We have found Amazon to be a very honest company. Nothing else to say. Cheers Chris
Collecting Lladro: Identfication and price guide.......2006-02-20
As a Lladro collector of more than 25 years I found this book to be most informative. Even though I have read much about Lladro there were topics covered that were new to me. A new addition would be most welcome.
A good read for Lladro enthusiast.......2005-10-25
Good book to read about Lladro porcelains but it's pretty outdated and doesn't contain samples of the newer Lladro pieces. But then again, Lladro related books are so rare, this itself is a jewel. Majority of the pictures shown here are the 'official' photographs of piece by Lladro themselves. It would have been great to see pictures taken by the author or owner as it would give a different angle and view of the pieces. I'm an avid collector and was thrilled to see many of the older pieces and read a short history about them in this book. Perhaps the author would consider to publish a newer edition?? And also source out Lladro examples from a more varied selection of collectors. A view of how they are stored in display cabinets at individual homes would be great too, to give a more personal and homely touch to the pieces. This is a great book and I'm sure it took a lot of effort to come out with it.... I would recommend it to anyone and hope that new editions will be published in the near future.
A Fantastic Resource!.......2004-04-18
For anyone who is interested in learning more about Lladró, the company, the history, the incredible artistry, "relatives" such as NAO and Zaphir, collecting and becoming better at collecting, and how to care for your collection, this book is fantastic and I highly recommend it! Peggy Whiteneck is truly an expert in this field, and has a passion for collecting Lladró that shows in every page. This second edition includes updates and new information as well as even more photos. Lladró collectors will not want to miss this!

A Comprehensive Guide to the 20th Century's Top 500 China Patterns.......2006-04-24
As a fan of mismatched china, whose collection has been profiled in the Denver Post, I recommend DINNERWARE OF THE 20TH CENTURY to both expert dealers and novices who love to entertain in style.
Organized alphabetically first by manufacturer and then by pattern name, this guide is illustrated with hundreds of full-color photographs. And it contains all the the information you will need to buy, store, care for, display, replace and value every known piece of the 20th century's top 500 china patterns.
Complete with a glossary of dinnerware terms and a brief history of every manufacturer, DINNERWARE OF THE 20TH CENTURY is a highly recommended reference book for anyone who appreciates a well set table.
- Regina McMenamin
An excellent reference book that I turn to every week........1999-11-06
As a novice dealer of new and antique dinnerware, this book has been an invaluable resource for identification and valuation. You will not learn a lot about any one manufacturer in this book because it focuses on the most desirable PATTERNS, featuring clear photos and basic pricing information. I find myself leafing through it often, even when I'm not looking for a particular pattern. If you don't specialize in one manufacturer's wares, but buy and sell a lot of different patterns, you really shouldn't be without this handy reference book. I hope Mr. Rinker will team up with Replacements to produce Volume II - The Top 1000 Patterns, 501-1000.
Customer Reviews:
Recommended by Debby DuBay Author of Antique Limoges.......2004-02-16
I found this book after I went to a appraisal in Dallas Texas where author Debby DuBay was speaking on antique Limoges porcelain. I purchased DuBay's book Antique Limoges at Home and then purchased American Limoges by Ms. Limoges to help me with my American Limoges pottery. I found out by reading these reference books every thing I needed to know about my grandmothers "Limoges" Thank you to two wonderful authors who have published two very useful and valuable reference guides on the subject.
Recommend American Limoges and Antique Limoges at Home.......2003-01-27
I found American Limoges after reading Debby Dubay's "Antique Limoges at Home". If you want to know the difference between antique Limoges and American Limoges I highly recommend Antique Limoges at Home! For more info on American Limoges recommend this book.
Good basic reference on American Limoges.......2001-05-30
Full-color photos on every page and current price values for each item are the pluses in this book. Many items are not actually identified, however, and names given to the pieces have been coined by the author. Even so, this one serves as a handy reference and guide to those wishing more information on American Limoges, the history and major pieces. I wish there'd been more examples of Viktor Schreckengost's connection to the company and designs made by him for American Limoges but that is a personal preference.
A necessary tool for the collector of American Limoges china.......1998-07-08
Do not purchase any Limoges China, (american) without this book. It is a priceless resource to be carried with you as you explore antique shops. I wish that I had it with me before I gave away my American Limoges China, thinking that it was worthless. Raymonde Limoges has done a great job in assembling this book.
Book Description
Over 1,900 companies with over 8,000 marks, logos, and symbols divided equally among the old folk potters, studio potters, dinnerware manufacturers, distributors, and decoratorsfill this massive hardbound encyclopedia. No values. REVIEW: This thick hardcover book is packed with text and illustrations, the sheer measure of which admittedly took the author nearly a quarter century to research and compile. The book is an indispensable aid for properly identifying pottery, porcelain, and clay pieces. The various manufacturer listings contain paragraphs outlining the history of each company as well as interesting "insider" information. Both the novice and veteran collector can ID their merchandise quickly and easily.
Customer Reviews:
Book on U.S. Marks.......2007-06-14
This book is about U.S. marks.
.... So, if you need a piece of U.S.A pottery identified, then this book probably has the mark. (Please note that this book is not about finding markings of European pieces. As stated on the cover, this book is strictly about U.S. marks).
Vast collection of pottery marks.......2006-11-27
This book is prodigious in scope: the pottery marks (with huge varieties within each company) and historical information are both invaluable and interesting. However, the indexing is weak, which leads one to thumbing through pages trying to find an elusive mark. This is such a well-researched, vast collection of marks, however, that laborious searches are rewarded.
A Very informative book........2006-01-30
This book is jam packed with pottery marks, a great value for the price. I had no idea that there were so many. It is extremely informative, giving a brief history, manufacture dates and much more information for each company listed. I would definately recommend this to anyone with an interest in collecting or selling pottery.
ExtensiveýBUT Not Easy to Use!.......2002-03-06
This book has a LOT of information! When you do find what you are trying to research there is extensive information about the company. HOWEVER, the book is not indexed well. The index is down right skimpy. When trying to look-up certain words or wording found in a mark there is no reference to these things in the index. So a tedious process of looking through each page many times insues.
I also would like more dates associated with the marks. I realize this would mean more research on the author's part but that would make the book more valuable to me if I could verify dates more readily. The current way the marks are identified is in paragraph form associating the illustrated mark with a number. Locating these numbers within the paragraphs is difficult and time consuming. It make the research tedious. Thus, this is NOT my first choice reference to go to when trying to identify a new mark.
I would like to see this book updated and improved by doing three things (PUBLISHERS are you listening?)-1) A more comprehensive index, 2) more research on the individual marks (dates associated with each), and typographicly improve the association between marks and comment text about the marks.
And So It Was Done.......2000-09-10
Years ago I hunted high and low for a book on American ceramic wares, a genre who's time I saw closing fast. It was suggested once that I write one. I am glad I didn't take the challenge as my work would surly have paled severely in contrast to this marvelous, all inclusive work. Lois Lehner gives the subject the depth, scope and respect it deserves. This is 'the book' on American marks on pottery and porcelain its authority is never questioned.
Customer Reviews:
Terrible Reference Book.......2003-09-23
This book is a wast of time. There are marks with no explanations and explanations with no marks. The book skips sequences almost like there are pages missing. Trying to use this book in dating a piece is hopeless.
Please save your money and don't buy this book.
1100 Marks on foreign pottery & porcelain.......2002-03-06
Very good if your looking for very old marks
Worthwhile for older markings.......2000-06-14
This book has a terrific layout. The right page has 50 or more markings while the left page lists easily referenced details. Unfortunately, the details can be sketchy. For example, (one listing) Paris, some factory, Charles Phillipe or (another listing) Sceaux? or Bourg la Reine? Doubtful.
I bought this book to accompany me on my European flea market travels. It is a reprint of a book originally published in 1937. So all of the markings are for things that are much older than I'm likely to find in our local flea markets. However, should I come across one, I'll be ready for it. :)
