plenty of information.......2007-07-30
I like it because it has plenty of information about the Bionicle world. It tells you the name of old and new islands along with its history and map. I recommend this book for bionicle fans.

Book Description
"Goodnight, Max," says Max's sister Ruby. But Max can't get comfortable. First he spills a glass of water. Then there are all those itchy cookie crumbs in his bed...and the moon shining through his window. Will poor Max ever fall asleep? Rosemary Wells' beloved Max and Ruby are back in an irresistibly touchable book that is also a satisfying bedtime story. Toddlers won't be able to resist all the tactile elements--fourteen tempting things to touch, move, even smell--while a gently humorous story makes this the perfect book for bedtime, naptime, or anytime!
Customer Reviews:
Mischevious Max makes for great stories.......2007-07-19
The stories of mishechvious yet charming Max and his older sister Ruby makes great reading especially for boys, but also for girls too. My kids really delighted in reading these books, and I'm sure yours would as well.
My toddler's favorite.......2007-05-20
We received this book as a gift and it was my toddler's first introduction to Max and Ruby. She loves this book and will ask for "Max" at bedtime. She enjoys the interactive aspects (the window that goes up and down, the blanket, etc.) and it has a cute storyline.
Perfect Bedtime Story.......2006-08-23
My 2-year-old son, Max, LOVES this book. He insists we read it every night, immediately followed by _Max's Toys_. The touch-and-feel areas are very small, although it doesn't seem to bother him. He just loves to open and close the window.
GOODNIGHT MAX.......2006-03-27
It's a very sweet, short story-good for 2's and 3's. A great book? No. A cute story with two rabbits? Yes!
You have to be a fan.......2001-07-30
I bought this book after reading all the great reviews. It is a nice book, bright colors, lots of attention to detail, silly story line, but I didn't think the areas for the child to feel were large enough. The sticky candy in Max's pajamas is just about the size of a child's fingertip, the lace curtain is just a thin slip of fabric, the lightning is a skinny zig-zag of foil and the "cookie crumbs" sandpaper is only about a quarter-inch high. There are other touch-and-feel books that provide a much larger exploratory surface. Still, this book does contain a good variety (sticky candy, rough crumbs, fur, smelly sock, etc.)I'm not sure why, but that smelly sock always seems to be such a hit!

Book Description
Ahoy! Here We Go
Around the World
with 10 Little Rubber Ducks
"Ducks overboard!" shouts the captain, as a giant wave washes a box of 10 little rubber ducks off his cargo ship and into the sea. The 10 little rubber ducks are swept away in various directions. One drifts west, where a friendly dolphin jumps over it. A whale sings to another. But, as the sun sets, the 10th little rubber duck is left all alone, bobbing helplessly on the big wide sea. Small readers and listeners will empathize with the little duck's plight -- and will rejoice at the heartwarming surprise ending.
In this poignant and funny story, illustrated with strikingly designed collages, Eric Carle also takes readers on an exciting voyage of discovery. Following the little ducks as they float to all parts of the globe, young explorers can see for themselves the meanings of directional words, and learn simple math concepts such as counting and the use of cardinal and ordinal numbers. Each creature the ducks meet is seen in its own habitat and behaves in a true-to-life manner, offering a very simple first view of biology and geography.
All aboard for a world of learning and fun!
Customer Reviews:
Love it!!!.......2007-08-23
Very impressed with the book. Arrived in pristine condition. Love the rubber duck squeaky sound box on the back cover.
A minor hit at home.......2007-08-07
Not as good as some of the Eric Carle classics; I can't see it being read as much as "The Hungry Caterpillar" in our house but it's still a good bedtime story standby.
10 Little Rubber Ducks.......2007-03-09
I purchased this book for my three year old grandson. He loved it! We read it several times together and he giggled and had a wonderful time looking at the wonderful pictures. Another Eric Carle master piece!!!
Wonderful story.......2006-08-14
This book is simply a delight! I bought it for my granddaughter who is 9 months. She loves for me to read it to her. We just love it!!
The story behind the story is more interesting.......2006-06-27
This book is simply not that great. The rubber ducky sound at the end is cute but nothing to applaud. The art is borderline awful and, while the story behind the story is cute, it just did not come out great as a children's book. I must confess, I am not an Eric Carle fan though, with the exception of The Very Busy Spider, which I enjoyed. To put it simply, don't bother. The two redeeming qualities of this book are 1) it teaches counting well (the first rubber duck, the second rubber duck) and it exposes the kids to animals you do not see every day (octupus, flamingo, pelican).

EXCELLENT!.......2007-03-21
My daughter has been listening to this audiobook every night at bedtime for 2 years now. She will only listen to this going to sleep (or the Doll People also). If your daughter is 6-12 she will love it.
Fantastic!.......2007-02-28
This is a fantastic book! It is not just about moving and talking dolls but it is also about friendship and family. It was so good that I didn't want to put the book down! I love the characters, settings and events in the story. My favorite character is Annabelle because she is exactly like me. I like the school setting because it made you feel like you were actually there. I think that the best part was when Nora played Miami Beach a-go-go.
It all began in the attic of Kate and Nora Palmer's house. Auntie Sarah Doll and the pair of best friends (Annabelle Doll and Tiffany Funcraft - all dolls) went to the attic to find a spider that Auntie Sarah had been wanting to see. When they tried to return to their owner's room (Kate) she wakes up so the dolls had to hide because dolls can't be seen moving by humans or they would go into doll state or worse permanent Doll state. So Auntie Sarah hid behind the attic door and Annabelle and Tiffany hid in Kate's book bag. Kate brought her book bag to school that day. The two friends then got out of the book bag to explore the school. When it was time to go home Annabelle and Tiffany jumped into the wrong book bag accidentally. The book bag belonged to a boy named B. J. He took his book bag home that night and Annabelle and Tiffany got out of it. They realized they were in B. J.'s room. There they met a lot of other dolls. The dolls they met belonged to B. J.'s sister Callie. They came into B. J.'s room to hide from Mean Mimi. Mean Mimi was an ordinary doll who was always dressed up in a purple princess dress. She wore a crown on her head and in her hand was a magic wand shaped like a star. She thought that she was Princess Mimi Queen of all the dolls. She forced dolls to do what she wanted them to do. Annabelle and Tiffany stayed all weekend fighting Mean Mimi's battles. Then on Sunday night they got back into B. J.'s book bag. B. J. brought his book bag to school the next day. When no one was looking they got back into Kate's book bag. (They made sure it was Kate's and not someone else's) When they got home that day both the Doll and the Funcraft family were in the doll house. When the two families saw Annabelle and Tiffany they ran up to hug both of them. When everyone had gotten back into the doll house, including Annabelle and Tiffany, they heard a noise coming from the book bag and realized Mean Mimi had followed them home. Will Mean Mimi meet her doom? Read the book to find out.
The Meanest Doll in the World.......2006-11-30
Annabelle and Tiffany can't be seen moving by an adult or they will go into doll state. They ran into a backpack and Kate took her backpack to school.Annabelle and Tiffany decided to go exploring. They looked around for a while and when it was time to go they went into the wrong backpack. They came to BJ's house and helped the dolls their fight Mean Mimi and her crew.Mean Mimi rolled metal cars down a race track to hit the dolls. She told Sandra to run after them. Finally Mean Mimi lost because her crew went to the other side. Tiffany and Annabelle went back into BJ's backpack and returned home safely.Mean Mimi followed them and tries Kate see them moving Nora saw Mean Mimi moving and she went into permanant Annabelle and Tiffany were happy that she couldn't move.
The Greatest Book in the World!!!!!!.......2006-11-23
After reading The Meanest Doll in the World, I was unable to look at my dolls in my doll house the same way again. True, dolls are not alive, but one can never know. The only thing that may be scary to a younger age group is the thought of a horrifying doll walking around a house plotting disasterous schemes to jepordize not only herself but all of her kind. That kind of frightened me but I remebered that dolls are not alive and if a doll did something to me it wouldn't be all that harmful. So, as you can see, The Meanest Doll in the World is a great book that shows how even dolls can work together to conquer an evil villian and shows the meaning of friendship between Annabelle and Tiffany, two of the dolls in this book.
The Meanest Doll in the World.......2006-06-02
Have you ever read a book where dolls come alive at night when everybody is asleep. We'll here it is, part 2 of the doll people.
This book is about Annabell and Tiffany, two dolls and their Aunt Sarah. They go on a hunt to find interesting things. When all of a sudden the mom of the house wakes up ....... what if she discovers them walking around the house? It would mean that they turn into regular, lifeless plastic dolls. The question throughout the book is whether the dolls get back safely to their doll house or get caught and lose their special gift of life?
I recommend this book to kids ages 8 through 13, however, this book can be read by anyone because it is a good book. This book has detailed illustrations of the doll house and each doll. You can also get your own "Meanest doll in the world" by calling the number in the book and ordering the doll.

The World of Pooh Review.......2007-06-04
I think that "The World of Pooh" was a wonderful book. I especially liked it because I love Winne the Pooh. He is so funny, and with his friends by his side they can do anything. One of my favorite parts is the part where Pooh gets stuck in Rabbit's Rabbit Hole. And when everyone throws a party for Pooh and Eeyore thinks the party is for him. The World of Pooh is a great book and it is funny as well. I could not put the book down. It is just simply amazing. Piglet and Winnie the Pooh are best of friends.
Winnie the Pooh.......2007-03-29
I love this book. Written well, the drawings are great, I takes me back to a wonderful place to be.
For the Gopher fans, Gopher is not in this, he came later in the tv shows.
Everyone should own this.......2006-12-27
If you have a kid, a grandkid, a neighbor kid, or are considering getting any of those, you should buy this book.
Get a copy to keep in the car in case you are away from the main copy at home. It is a truly great book, and you will never regret purchasing it for a single second.
An Escape From the Real World -- (written by my sister)........2004-08-25
This book is good for kids and adults. It is a great way to escape from the daily depressions in our world news. Unlike other books, it provides a fun, innocent adventure that still has the appeal to people of all ages. After a hard day, this book allows you to forget all bad - there is no evil, there is no wrong. highly recommended!
Illustrated in color and black & white by E.H. Shepard.......2000-10-07
The World of Pooh is better read aloud. Milne's characters are charming and lovable. Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends are alive in this book every time I read it, and Shepard's illustrations are so pleasing. I've read these stories so many times and still each time I can hardly wait to find out what adventures Pooh and his friends will have.

An Okay Book that My Son Ripped to Shreds..........2007-05-08
This book is fragile and my son destroyed it almost immediately after purchasing it. Overall the photography and theme is okay, but if you are dealing with curious, active hands, then you need to expect this book to be in the trash within a week - unless you insist on always handling it yourself.
Flimsy flaps.......2007-04-19
The books itself is colorful and exciting to my son, but not very durable. I've already done a fair amount if taping and we hven't had it very long.
For the Little Ball LOVER.......2007-03-30
I bought this for my 18 month nephew who LOVES balls and this is his all time FAVORITE book. The book is less about Elmo and more about all the different balls. It is not a literary work, which is why you have some parents who gave it poor reviews..... but a HUGE HIT for that little one who has a love and fasination with balls.
Balls!.......2006-05-16
My 16-month old would not sit still to read a book. I have been trying for months. I have to turn the pages very quickly and talk about the pictures so that we can complete them. Once I showed him this book last week, he will sit and let me read the whole thing and then he likes to go back and re-read all of the pages and point to the balls for me to identify them.
The flaps are a bit flimsy for his age-group. But, if I help him, I know that they won't tear or bend.
Decent book for Elmo lovers.......2006-02-24
We've learned the names of all the balls with this book. It's a good one with a "door" to open on each page. Not too busy and a good quick read.

So Crazy Japanese Toys!
ASIN: 4770030177 |
Book Description
Plastic Culture explores the world of toys: why we love them, what they represent, and why there is a growing market for "designer" and "art" toys aimed at adults. In this book, British author Woodrow Phoenix takes a look at our relationship to toys in the twenty-first century, with particular reference to Japan--an exporter of both merchandise and ideas. Plastic toys based on Japanese comics, movies, and TV shows, from Astro Boy, Godzilla, and Gatchaman, to Power Rangers, Sailor Moon, and Pokémon have had a powerful effect on the imaginations and markets of the West, and have kick-started trends in design and pop culture that have crossed from Japan to the West and back East again. Brimming with lavish, full-color illustrations of cult and limited-edition toys, and with an in-depth look at the work of Japanese artists Takashi Murakami and Yoshitomo Nara, Hong Kong trendsetters Eric So and Michael Lau, and many other leading players in the world of designer toys, this is a book that will appeal to a wide range of readers: from those interested in the latest trends in contemporary art, to toy collectors, and to anyone with an interest in Japan's influence on contemporary pop culture.
Customer Reviews:
now i feel much smarter This book is great .......2007-03-23
All the cool pictures of toys I can't have are nice. But it's really better than all the other toy books becuase it explains all about toys and how come they are so cool. I know it was for adult level reader but I learned a lot that my friends don't know! It wasn't hard to read and I wish it was twice the size. My only problem is There was not enough Blythe information even though she's on the cover.
Urban Vinyl.......2006-09-06
Ah, what a wonderful invention plastic is! Nearly limitless possibilities, able to be shaped into almost any form, take on any color, and endure across the centuries. As functional as it is fantastic. Of course, it was only a matter of time before artists took this malleable material into their capable hands, and created something that the inventors of the plastic would have never imagined. In this case, it is toys.
"Plastic Culture: How Japanese Toys Conquered the World" supposes to tell the story of plastic, and its journey from function to fantastic, from commerce to art. Supposes to, because unfortunately the book seems to have fallen victim to a loss of focus, or possibly a conflict between writer and editor. Instead of this history of plastic, and their connection to Japanese culture, what the writer wanted to write about was an artistic movement called Urban Vinyl, originating in Hong Kong and then spreading to Japan and the US. That's his passion, and it shows.
The first half of "Plastic Culture" is rough. It begins with a very brief history of plastic's invention, and its use in toys across the years. There is some brief connection with Japan, introducing the Kaiyodo model makers who perfected the garage kit. There is a half-hearted section on using toys for marketing purposes as mascots, mainly mentioning McDonalds Happy Meal toys and the Olympics. Trying to swing the story back to Japan, Sanrio is covered with their successful line of Hello Kitty figures and other characters. These articles are all short on text, and heavy on pictures, jumping rapidly from section to section without much logic or interest. Its pretty boring, and not very well researched. Then, on page 43, author Woodrow Pheonix begins the section on Urban Vinyl. And it all changes.
The Urban Vinyl movement began in Hong Kong, with a couple of young talents started taking apart GI Joe figures and putting them back together street-style, dressed in the latest Hong Kong fashions and with an attitude that GI Joe never imagined. These two, Michael Lau and Eric So, exhibited their work at galleries, and inspired other artists to see toys as a medium of expression, rather than just playthings. The movement jumped across the water, to Japan with its ingrained toy culture, and then to the US underground comics scene, where artists like Dan Clowes ("Ghost World") and Archer Prewitt ("Sof' Boy") began teaming up with Asian designers to produce unique figures combining all of their talents and visions. Into this comes Takashi Murakami, famed for his Superflat exhibition and one of Japan's greatest modern artists, who sees the concept of creating original works of art in toys, rather than just reproducing existing works in plastic. Yoshitomo Nara, another prominent Japanese modern artist, follows suit. Its fascinating.
If this book had been called "Urban Vinyl," and started with Lau and So in Hong Kong, then been given enough depth to explore the artistic movement completely, it would have been incredible. Woodrow Pheonix has a real passion for this movement, and a deep insight into what makes it tick and how the pieces fit together. His interviews with Murakami and Nara really made me reconsider the way I see toys, and it was great to here these two giants of modern art put forward such opposing yet complementary viewpoints on Urban Vinyl.
But it wasn't, and so "Plastic Culture" is really only half a great book. That second half is really something, and worth picking up the book for. It makes me want to learn more about Urban Vinyl and hopefully someday Pheonix will get to write the book that he should have. I will be first in line to pick it up.

Book Description
Taken from the highly acclaimed Oxford Ibsen, this collection of Ibsen's plays includes A Doll's House, Ghosts, Hedda Gabler, and The Master Builder.
Customer Reviews:
Masterful Ibsen.......2007-07-27
Rather predictably, the first play offered here is "A Doll's House", the most famous of Ibsen's works. Strangely enough, this ended up NOT being my favorite of the four plays provided in this small collection, but I'll get to that in a moment. Next we have "Ghosts", "Hedda Gabler", and finally "The Master Builder".
"A Doll's House", 86 pages long, is also provided here with the alternate German ending. The ending was deemed so scandalous that Ibsen was forced to write up another ending, in which things go slightly differently. "A Doll's House", a play about a woman who rather does the unthinkable (in that time, at least) to help her husband and then once again to herself, is remarkably interesting. Ibsen plays are generally extremely fun to analyze, simply because there's always something there. Nobody would read dull plays, after all. The alternate ending provided is actually the most interesting part of all. It shows us what the impact of this play was on society at the time that it came out. Perhaps we find these things somewhat more "normal" (though they're actually not, and are still considered rather scandalous) and acceptable, so this ending really reminds us of WHY this play was so impressive and WHY Ibsen was such a strange character for his time. An intriguing play, though not my favorite.
No, that falls to "Ghosts". A play that once again touches on difficult subjects that are most intriguing, "Ghosts" chilled me from beginning to end. It was a more interesting play, overall, because it seemed to me more human. That's not to say that "A Doll's House" wasn't human (it definitely is), but there was something about "Ghosts" that touched me more than the other plays. At 73-pages and with fewer characters, "Ghosts" is an easier play to really read, and certainly an enjoyable one.
"Hedda Gabler" changes things a bit. The plot suddenly becomes a bit more interesting with a touch more mystery and intrigue. There are moments that positively creeped me out ("I'm burning your child") and moments where I just shivered. The ending is a bit more intense than in the previous plays, though less surprising. The play felt very different from "Ghosts" or "A Doll's House", though it was still clearly an Ibsen "morbid but interesting" play.
For me, "The Master Builder" is the odd play out. It's the one that, a. Bored me the most, b. Seemed to take the longest (though only barely longer than "A Doll's House, at 88 pages, and shorter than the 97-paged long "Hedda Gabler"), and c. Seemed the least realistic. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the ending wouldn't seem to work on stage. I felt like at some point Ibsen kind of forgot that he was writing a play and mentioned things that wouldn't really work (unless they have a complex blue screen, but those didn't exist in his time...). There are ways around it, certainly, and it's a minor flaw, but I found that "The Master Building" just didn't have that spark that the other plays seemed to have. No, it's not a BAD play, but it's not my favorite among these either.
While there are many options out there for buying Ibsen plays, this one is certainly a good buy. While the Signet edition also gives us four plays for a few dollars cheaper, instead of the incredible "Ghosts", we get the reasonable "The Wild Duck". For those few dollars, I'd opt for "Ghosts". Also, the book type itself is better in this edition as opposed to the Signet Classics one.
Highly recommended to anyone interesting in a good play to analyze and enjoy. Enjoy!
old but still good.......2007-01-10
it was an older book, but it was in good shape. good plays too.
A translation to beat all others.......2001-06-21
James McFarlane's and Jens Arup's translations of Ibsen have long been classics and are arguably the best. Although they were published in England almost forty years ago, they still sound remarkably fresh and will be in print for many years to come.
In "A Doll's House" (1879), Ibsen casts us into the world of Nora Helmer, a young Norwegian housewife and Nordic Madame Bovary. Highlighting the restricted position of women in male-dominated society, the play sparked such an uproar in Scandinavia when it appeared that "many a social invitation during that winter bore the words: 'You are requested not to mention Ibsen's Doll's House!'" In fact, Hedwig Niemann-Raabe, the actress who was to play Nora on tour in Germany, was so appalled at the ending of this play -- at this female "monster" -- that she demanded Ibsen write an alternative one in German, which he did (a "barbaric outrage", in his words). McFarlane has appended this German-language ending (and a translation in English).
Based on the theme, "The sins of the fathers shall be visited on the children," "Ghosts" (1881) is one of Ibsen's most riveting plays. Like "A Doll's House", it, too, was denounced on its début ("crapulous stuff", "an open drain", one London reviewer called it -- certainly a Victorian exaggeration). As in most of his plays, Ibsen probes the hypocrisies of patriarchal society, which he deems to be rotten at its core, and stultifying provincial life ("Doesn't the sun ever shine here?"). Typically, he also casts women in a favorable light.
"A Doll's House" and "Ghosts" established Ibsen's reputation as one of the finest playwrights in Europe, but his next two plays -- "Hedda Gabler" (1890) and "The Master Builder" (1892) -- gave him undisputed international fame. As McFarlane points out, the 1890s "were the years when the publication of a new Ibsen play sent profound cultural reverberations throughout Europe and the world." "Hedda Gabler" marks Ibsen's shift away from highly controversial dramas primarily concerned with social and sexual injustice to "domestic" plays that addressed the struggle of individuals to control each other, people who "want to control the world, but cannot control [themselves]." "Hedda Gabler" is a thoroughly electrifying drama about a married woman's devouring sense of decay and confinement. "The Master Builder", which Ibsen coupled with "Hedda Gabler", is his riveting look into sexual potency and the domination of youth by age.
These plays are not as dark and dirty as they might seem. Whatever reviewers may have said about them when they came out and whatever gloomy stuff psychiatrists have written about them since, if you're at all familiar with prime-time television, they won't offend you -- in fact, you probably wont even lift an eyebrow. Still, I found myself glued to them for hours and I've read them before. Find a copy for your shelf!
Four classic plays from Ibsen.......1996-10-31
Actually, I've only read two of these plays before but I did
want to list the names of the four included in this volume:
A Doll's House;
Ghosts;
Hedda Gabler;
The Master Builder.
Masterful social drama (to sound like a back-of-the-book blurb).
Seriously though, Ibsen's plays are wonderful.

Puppies!.......2007-10-09
Great book for kids. I already bought two and plan to buy more to share.
Follows Elmo's World format. - mostly.......2007-07-23
Cute short book showing that puppies need food, water, exercise and sleep. It also shows what dogs are feeling sometimes. The book mostly follows the format of the show where Elmo asks Dorothy and the reader questions. But, if you have a big Elmo's World fan then you will also be explaining where Mr. Noodle is after Elmo asks Dorothy a question. I also recommend "Where is Elmo's Blanket? and Elmo's Big Book" They are very interactive lift the flap books.
my16 month old daughter's favorite.......2006-09-23
By far my daughter's favorite book. She is 16 months and this is perfect for her. She does LOVE Elmo and puppies, so this is the perfect combination. The flaps are big, so she can do them herself which is great.
The story isn't really all that great, but she loves the pictures so much that the story doesn't matter.
Of course, it gets a lot of wear and tear just as any lift the flap book does, but I am amazed at how well it has held up.
Toddlers love Elmo and puppies.......2006-05-12
My 21 month old son loves this book. The flaps are nice and big and easy for him to open. It is a fun, short book with vibrant pictures. The book isn't going to last forever because the pages are fairly thin, but it's a fun book for the price.
How could you go wrong with doggies???.......2006-02-24
Great one for a 15 month old, especially if they like dogs, quick read and a "door" to open on each page. It took us a LONG time to get past the first page though since we had to really study the puppies. It was a while before she realized there were doggies on the other pages too since she loves to look at doggies so much.

My 20-month old loves all things Elmo- she has this book memorized. Great use of animal sounds and fun flaps to open and close. Get the whole series!
If your child is a fan of Elmo they will love this book........2007-02-17
Moooo, cluck cluck....my 18 month old loves this book. She is crazy over Elmo and is learning animal sounds from the book. The flaps are fun for her to open and discover what's underneath!
A Hit with Elmo lovers!.......2006-03-17
This is the 3rd Elmo's World book we have purchased and it is great. It uses the same format and language as the TV show. The large print and flaps are perfect for the younger kids. My son is 15 months and an expert with his Elmo books. He will crawl over and read them by himself. These are great book and the various topice are fun and interesting for the younger set.
It's excellent!.......2002-03-08
After reading this book, my 20-month-old son would follow what ELMO did in the book, pretending to be a cat, a lion, a worm. For example, he would "meow" and creep when he saw a cat in the book. It was fun for a baby boy to learn about animals in that way.
