I have been looking for a collector's guide for the last several years and stumbled across this. As soon as the book arrived I could not wait to check the secondary prices for all my "friends".
This book will be a wonderful help in getting an extra rider on my homeowners policy to cover my friends should anything happen to them.
The pictures and descriptions in the book are outstanding and the supplemental information is invaluable. I have several friends that have multiple looks and it helped me to distinguish between the bears that have the same name but slightly different looks.

I thought the guide was pretty good but had missed some items. The pictures were not real clear or true color to the real item.

Book Description
The new Second Edition of "The Artist-Signed Postcard Price Guide" is the 11th book on postcards by author J.L. Mashburn. It was written specifically for collectors and dealers interested in both U.S. and Foreign artist-signed cards issued from 1898 to 1950. It has 480 pages, lists over 2,300 artists and their works with related values, and contains 730 great photos. This new book can be a valuable asset for all postcard enthusiasts.
Customer Reviews:
Another wonderful book from the expert..........2000-07-07
Mashburn writes terrific books. His Postcard Guide is the best general book out there. He also does specialized postcard books such as this one. Anyone who collects artist-signed postcards will want this book, no question about it.
It is filled with hundreds of pages and pictures of all our favorite artists, like Harrison Fisher, Philip Boileau, Earl Christy, as well as the more obscure yet fabulous artists like Lupiac and others. He covers a variety of categories, like Beautiful Ladies, Beautiful Children, Nudes, Blacks, Sports, and Comics. He includes a reference section in the front which goes over important information such as how to determine the age of a card, grade a card's condition, and so on. My only quibble with this book is that all the inside images are in black and white, and I would have loved to see some in color. Perhaps in the next edition.
If you're looking for a comprehensive reference on Artist-Signed postcards, this is the book to buy.

Customer Reviews:
New Edition is Way Better.......2006-01-23
I'm a multi sport athlete who trains all year round regardless of what sport I play. I bought a few of these Ultimate Guide to Weight Training books, and they definitely helped me train specifically for the different sports that I play. Then about a year later I received an email from amazon that there was a new edition out. These upgraded editions are even better than the originals, with more articles and a lot more sport-specific information. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who plays a lot of sports or wants to specifically focus on training for one sport in particular.
Very useful.......2003-10-29
After i finished reading this book, i put it in the front of my collection of running books. This is the most functional and practical book i have ever seen on strength training for runners. the tips on how to weight train for muscular endurance are priceless as i'm beginning to see with my longer distances and lower times. this book has earned my recommendation.
Exactly what I needed.......2003-10-27
After reading through this book, it is clear that it is just what I needed. While running, I usually begin to experience fatigue in my muscles as opposed to my lungs. This book has very good strategies and tips on how to improve muscular endurance- which is exactly what runners need. My leg muscles as well as my upper body muscles have become more durable and I'm able to last much longer without getting tired. The programs in the front of the book provide a tremendous starting point for my weight training. This is a guide, that I recommend to all runners.

Customer Reviews:
Best Guide Yet.......2007-09-28
Ted Hake, the King of Collectibles, has issued a book on Disneyana. I am very excited that this book is on the market. For novice collectors there are lengthy features regarding the history of different aspects of Disney collecting that will bring you up to speed. The articles also work for advanced collectors for detail reminders and a quick, all-in-one reference for those pesky details that will clear that bet you made. This book is hefty, and I know if Ted could have included even more he would have. Each inclusion features a very handy full color photo, detailed description, and a price break-down for varying conditions and parts (i.e. box value AND item value). The book is divided into sections for each character(s) or particular items (posters, four-color comics, Walt Disney, etc.)and items are listed in chronological order making the tome extremely easy to reference. Each section begins with a history of the characters or items, making dating items particularly easy. Prices listed are realistic, fair market value; however you have to make up your own mind what you would sell/pay for any item. I am a Disneyland collector so I especially appreciate the sections on Disney Park items. Perhaps in the future the Disney Parks sections can grow...or perhaps a book only on Disneyland collectibles...! But that is only my own desire, not a complaint. This is the first reference book I reach for these days. Every good Disneyana fan or collector should own it!

Customer Reviews:
Not Very Useful.......2004-07-01
I guess this book is useful if you want to know such insightful things as it gets hot in the summer in Washington DC and kids are not in school, or, that it gets very cold in the winter (imagine that). Other gems include that you can take a cab from the airport to your hotel, and to wear comfortable shoes if you plan to do a lot of walking. I picked this up before a trip to the nation's capitol, and was underwhelmed with the information. Luckily one of my buddies had a different much more comprehensive guide to the Washington DC, so we opted to use that.
Don't Be A Dummy. Pick A Better Travel Guide........2004-07-01
I've read through several Washington DC. travel guides, and this one was, by far, the worst. It's very far from comprehensive, and spent far too much time on things like "How to get to Washington, DC", and very little time talking about hotels (a negligently small listing), restaurants and nightlife (a few paragraphs). Book is black and white with no color photos, no color maps (so no different colors for each of the metro lines), actually very little in the way of maps, and no photos to speak of either. Poor. Frommers Washington DC guide is a far better investment. Even Fodors is better. Possibly the weekend section of the Washington Post would be more useful than this paperweight.
Washington DC for Dummies.......2004-04-01
My family just returned from a wonderful trip to DC. As a mom who always researches our trips, I have bought a lot of books that help give info and advice on what to do and see on trips. This was one of the better ones I saw in the stores on DC. After purchasing it and reading through it, I found that the info was acurate and up to date. It gave a lot of tips that I wouldn't have known any other way. It saved us time and money. It was also a neat way to share info with my kids while we were at different monuments that didn't have tour guides available. I am a fan of the "Dummies" books!
DC for Dummies is a smart book!.......2003-04-11
I'm the editor of this book (and hired Tom Price to write it) so I know it VERY well. Mr. Price is a longtime DC resident, and welcomes the reader into his home town in a way that is both informative and funny.
Price covers a lot of ground in a book that's not a long slog: he hits the high points like the new Spy Museum, compiles lists of attractons for people who love museums, architecture, the outdoors, and gives the pros and cons of visiting our nation's capital in each season.
DC is a momumental city, and it can be daunting to fit it into a short visit, but you CAN make the most of your time there with Price's expert guidance.
The Book That May Put Me Out Of Work.......2001-06-06
As a concierge at one of D.C.'s finest hotels, I was shocked and humbled by the wealth of knowledge in this book that I should have already known, but didn't. While there have been some minor changes in regards to some restaurants and hotels, the book was remarkably accurate with its information. I have two copies; one at home for visiting friends and one at my desk for quick reference. Anyone working in the travel industry should keep this nearby for an essential job tool.

With over 60,000 values, it's easy to see why the Autograph Collector Price Guide has become the definitive Bible of autograph collecting.
Customer Reviews:
THANKS!.......2002-11-21
This book is exactly what I've been looking for!!? It lists the values of names I couldn't find anywhere else, as well as displaying informative data on collecting!!
DISAPPOINTED!.......2002-05-08
This book was a huge disappointment. Sure, it lists prices for thousands of autographs, but the "facsimiles" section is a joke. I highly doubt anyone is losing sleep wondering if their "Peggy Moran", "Bill Withers" or "Marjorie Ann Kent" (who?) signatures are authentic or not, yet space is wasted with these names, while more famous, more collectable ones (Garland, Astaire, etc.) are left out. And to top it off, some of these examples are captioned with glaring typos: "Michael Cain", instead of "Caine", "Kristy MacNichols", instead of "MacNichol". And this guy's an expert?
Great book for celebrity autograph collectors........1999-11-05
The book is great in showing the values of many famous people's autographs of pictures, letters, or just signatures on index cards. The only downfall of the book is that it doesn't have any sports athletes listed in the book.
OK as a reference.......1999-07-14
Hundreds of pages listing values. I would have liked more information on each auto. Also more inforamtive chapters. And more examples.
INFORMATIVE, EDUCATIONAL & ACCURATE!.......1999-05-06
This is the best autograph price guide available! I like it because it is published by the leading autograph entity in the world! Autograph Collector magazine is great, and the publishers have been putting out the magazine for over 12 years! No one has better access to current, up-to-date data than the publisher of this book.

Great book to have when looking to go yard sale shopping.......2000-06-04
This is a wonderful book to have if you are a rookie like me and don't know junk from treasure. Doing alot of yard sales, I come across items that look like junk when in reality, they are a piece of old treasure. This book will help you know what to look for when going to yard sales, "junk" stores, etc. I bought this book looking to get educated on some past collectibles and really got ALOT more information out of it than I expected. This is the only book you will need when trying to sort through what's really worth $$ and what't worth only pennies. WELL worth the money to buy this book. :)
