Book Description
This is a mind-boggling book. For the enthusiast intent upon restoring his Corvette to the look and condition it enjoyed when it left the factory, it is absolutely essential. For the enthusiast desiring to learn everything - every detail, every nuance which made one Corvette different from another, at model-year changeover, at mid-model, early model-year production, late model-year production - it is the ultimate reference book. This is the history of what happened to the Corvette on the assembly line from 1953 to 1962. It is the story of every Corvette that was produced for a decade. Its engine. Its chassis. Its body. From Powerglide to Positraction to Power Team Combinations. From ignition shielding to hose clamps to identification labels. From windshield wipers to door latch controls to taillight assemblies. It's a bit like a mystery book too, and could almost be recommended to aficionados of that genre regardless of their interest in Corvettes or even cars for that matter. To write this book Noland Adams had to become something of a Sherlock Holmes.

Customer Reviews:
Chilton book just O.K........2004-04-11
I have just started doing multiple maintainance projects on a 94 coupe. Chilton helps but since the book spans the complete C-4 generation it can be confusing depending on which engine you have. There is a critical error on spark plug gap. The books gives .035 for all years. The later models take a .050 gap. Double check your year before install. It is difficult to get the plugs in, you don,t want to do it twice. The graphics in the book are not great and the black and white pictures seem hard to see in some cases.
for the arm chair mechanic only!.......2000-05-09
While this book gives overall information, it is lacking much of what is needed by the wrench that is doing the hands on repairs. If someone else is doing the work and you want to know what is being done then this book will suffice.

The Corvette book of the year.......2007-02-16
I own a C4 Corvette and try to buy every Corvette book that comes out. I was given a truly bad Corvette book for a Christmas gift this year ("Corvette: America's Sports Car: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" by Jerry Burton), a cheesy, vinyl-covered tossed-together collection of factoids and tired photography. I went out and bought this one myself. This is the book all Corvette owners should own. It is a well-written history of the Corvette that is so complete it serves as the ultimate Corvette resource book. Best of all, it's filled with 100s of never-before-seen photographs from GM Design's archives. That alone is worth the price of admission. If someone got you that low-rent red vinyl Corvette book as a gift, bring it back to the store and exchange it for this one.
Just the One.......2007-01-29
This was a birthday gift for my brother...a lover of Corvettes, old and new!

This is a solid update to earlier black book editions which are a standard reference for identification and verification of Corvettes; it should be on the bookshelf of any Corvette enthusiast or potential buyer.

very helpful for the novice. would have liked more photos of the vettes, but all in all a ghood place to start
Corvette Black Book.......2007-05-24
After reading about this book elsewhere, I decided to buy a copy. If you want facts about any and all vettes, this is a very detailed book with a lot of information. I would have preferred more pictures of the cars, from different angles, but all years were represented, right up through 2007, and I'm sure the book's being updated to include the 2008s. If you're a true corvette lover, you should enjoy this book. Also a handy guide, if you're looking to buy a vette, which is the reason I bought the book, and have since found just the right vette!
NEED FOR SPEED?.......2007-01-09
This book is essential as a quick reference on Corvettes. Whether you are buying, selling or just interested in this car The Black Book will give you the basics for every Corvette ever made.

Golden Era The History of Group C & IMSA GTP (2 volume set)
Manufacturer: Gryfon Publishers
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Hardcover
ASIN: 0970325991 |
Product Description
After the great sports prototype era of 1962 through to 1971, auto racing fell back on the use of GT machinery until, with the coming of the 80's , a new golden era commenced on both sides of the Atlantic.
In Europe, the new Group C regulations set in motion a series which was ruled by fuel efficiency as well as speed. In America, the fuel efficiency factor was disregarded - brute power, speed and close racing being the objective in endurance racing.
From 1981, IMSA GTP racing in America saw first Lola and then March rule the roost. The coming of the Porsche 962 in 1985 saw this car dominate the series until the arrival of Nissan and later Toyota.
From 1982 in Europe, Porsche was instantly dominant, first of all with the 956 and later with the 962. There, Mercedes, in the guise of Peter Sauber's Company and Jaguar (with Tom Walkinshaw Racing) would beat Porsche until a new 3.5-liter "atmo" class took over in 1991.
With the coming of the Wold recession in the early 90's, this form of manufacturer-based racing ground to a halt. Sports prototype racing in Europe died in 1992, to be followed in America at the end of 1993. Today, these cars and races are remembered with great fondness by most racing enthusiasts around the World.
In this book (set of books actually) can be traced the events leading up to the Group C and IMSA GT formulas, together with a description of every race of both series and a complete description of every car that raced in the series. 300 black and white and color photos. 2 volume boxed set.

Corvette C6 (Launch book)
ASIN: 0684808544 |
Book Description
No other American car has the mystique and romance of the Corvette. It has been a legend for over forty years. Early in 1997 General Motors unveiled the fifth-generation Corvette. All Corvettes Are Red is the inside story of the people who made that Corvette from drawing board to assembly line.
The gap between the fourth- and fifth-generation Corvettes (C4 and C5, in GM lingo) was the longest ever, and the Corvette program came close to dying. Just as serious design work was under way, GM suffered the worst losses in its corporate history, and the C5 program was put on hold. The Corvette was saved by a fiercely dedicated team of designers, engineers, and executives, who pulled together to keep their dream car alive. They overcame internal politics and company-wide budget cuts to produce a new Corvette that is better engineered, better built, and less expensive than its predecessors.
Author James Schefter was granted unprecedented access to every part of GM, including areas that were off-limits to many company vice presidents. He spent eight years witnessing the C5's journey from drawing board to clay model to prototype to production vehicle. He accompanied test drivers across scorching deserts and into snow-packed mountains. As a result All Corvettes Are Red is not just the most authoritative book ever written about the Corvette, it is the most revealing account of the inner workings of the U.S. automobile industry.
Customer Reviews:
perfect gift for a car lovin' guy........2003-08-27
I given this book to guys of all ages who are interested iln cars. They really enjoy all the details, as only car buffs can.
For all Corvette lovers.......2001-12-13
Excellent behind the scenes of General Motors; unbelievable detail in what goes into bringing a new car to market; all the office politics withing GM; all the secret stuff you always wondered about are now exposed. This book provides the history and the detail all car enthusists will want. Anyone that owns a Corvette must read this book. Anyone thinking or dreaming about owning a Corvette should read this book.
A Scary Look Into the Birth of a Clasic.......2000-03-03
I don't know exactly what I expected when I purchased this book, probably a fluff piece with lots of GM furnished pap and glamour shots of the car and people. I guess that was OK with me.
What I got was a far different story, a scary walk down the halls of a giant corporation that I only thought was some kind of standard to measure the overall management prowess of other firms. The author does a magnificent job of detailing the warts of GM without seeming ungrateful for the opportunity to do so.
The new Corvette was five years late and probably wouldn't have happened for another three years were it not for a very small number of dedicated individuals who had to work like Green Berets in enemy territory to get out a new car in their own corporation.
Don't expect fluff or coffee table graphics. This book is a masterful chronicle of the making of a new car in an environment of overpowering resistance to the concept of movement. It is a real eye opener to everyone who believes that large firms know what they are doing - or even that they recognize the differnce between moving or not moving.
This book could very well be a case study text in the Organizational Behavior/Development classes took in grad school.
A must read for car nuts or students of the American business scene, but not for the Vette nut that wants a promo piece on the new wheels.
Great, great reading for Corvette enthusiasts.......1999-03-19
I rate it 4 stars; a little too much time spent on early industrial design situations, but excellent care of details throughout. The book provides, in appropriate detail, particulars of the automobile design and test process. I have a C5, I can relate to the results of decisions made by Engineering.
This Corvette team never gave up; through a number of senior staff shake-ups, budgetary problems, technological risks and sleepless nights. The biggest problem I had with this book is that it ends prematurely; there is little mention of the product announcement, public response or the results published in the press. I'll be reading it again. The book fortifies my belief that the Corvette is one of the best engineered automobiles available today, at any price.
PZeditor replies:.......1999-03-14
I certainly don't want to start slinging mud with Jim, however I have to dispute his continued insistance that Dave McLellan did not complete the C5 chassis before he left GM. Dave has told me on several occasions that the C5 chassis was done when he left in 1992. Jim insists on painting Dave as the villian in All Corvettes Are Red, and that's a shame. McLellan was tough to work for but no one can question his vision or his genious. I still contend he is not portrayed fairly.
As far as the other points that I took Schefter to task on, I stand by my sources and the first hand information they gave me.

Book Description
With the new-generation Corvette C6 on the market, the previous body style, the C5, will become more affordable and will be modified in greater numbers by style- and performance-minded owners. Corvettes in general have always been ideal for customizing and performance upgrades, and the C5 presents a great platform for modifications, both cosmetic and performance-based.
Customer Reviews:
Useless waste of paper.......2007-06-05
This book offers absolutely no advice or guidance for actually carrying out any of the projects listed. The section on brake pad and rotor replacement for example gives some pedantic theory on brakes but never gives clue one on how to remove/install pads or rotors. A total waste of money.
Some good info, but..........2007-03-29
I was disappointed with this book because it lacked a lot of detail thet would make the projects easier to complete. Also, the author spent way too much time explaining why the mods would not have any possitive results. If that is the case, why are they in the book?
There are a few pearls of wisdom but they are few.
Not worth the excitement.......2006-08-04
I eagerly awaited the release of this book. Unfortunately, it did very little to live up to expectations. The book LS1 has much better advise and guidance if you are looking for knowledge in support of your 'mod' appetite.
Another Great Book.......2006-05-18
Newton has written some outstanding Corvette books over the years. This book on the C5 continues that tradition. He gives us good honest advise about the things we can do to make our Corvette experiences enjoyable.
He's always been honest and tells use the truth about parts and accessories for our Corvettes. Up until now we were dependant on the Corvette magazines for C5 information. Now we have this great book.If you have a C5 you need this book. It's great.
Harold Flager
A Great Book.......2006-03-29
This is a great book for the C5 owner. The information is honest and helpful. Corvette magazines give people a totally false picture about C5 performance. This book tells you what you can expect from a modification and how much your performance can be improved. This book can save you a bunch of money.
The instructions for each of the projects are very well laid out. If you have any mechanical ability at all you can take on just about every project in the book.
If you own a C5 you should get this book. It'll help you decide what to do next with your C5. After all half the fun of owning a Corvette is playing with it.
This is a great book

Just a little problem........2006-10-25
Received this book as a birthday gift and am truly impressed with the information and pictures.
Just a small problem. The copy I got had blank pages in place of 394,395,398,399,402,403,406 & 407.These were in the specification section.
You might want to check if you're going to buy a copy that it has these pages.
Fabulous!.......2006-03-08
I bought this book for my brother's 50th bday, who happens to own a 50th anniversay corvette. The photography is absolutely fabulous. Page after page of beautiful color photos. Also has all the specs from each year. Very interesting read also. I highly recommend. A great book for an inexpensive price.
wow.......2005-07-14
if you are a corvette fan, or just an auto fan, you must have this book. it covers corvettes from 1953 to 2003 with entries of the designers and their drawings and models, dream and show cars, race cars, and production models. it covers all these with beautiful color photos and in-detail descriptions. it even has each model years statistics. this being a 50th anniversary edition will only make it more valuable as time goes by.
A must for C5 owners.......2004-08-05
As a proud owner of a new C5 Corvette, a friend of mine bought this book for me. After a few hours, I finally set it down only to see his 3 year old daughter spill a glass of milk all over it. So I had no choice but to immediately buy another!
I thought I knew everything about Corvettes, especially the beautiful C5. This book taught more then I could ever learn by mere Corvette ownership alone.
This has production figures for every year, numbers produced with different options (ex. 454 with convertible top with A/C and 4 speed) and a very well detailed history of every model ever produced.
