Warman's McCoy Pottery..........2007-09-22
...is a great source of many of McCoy pieces. Good photos with year made, brief description and appraised value as of I believe 2004 (which still seems to be the going prices in 2007.) Book is divided into specific chapters: Cookie Jars, Crocks, Dinnerware, Experiments, Flower Pots, Jardinieres and Pedestals, Jars, Kitchenware, Lamps, Loy-Nel-Art, Misc. Pet Feeders, Planters, Signs, Vases and Flower Holders, Wall Pockets and Catalog covers.

Book Description
Bob Sharon Huxford The authors of our popular Roseville Pottery and McCoy Pottery books are back with a new edition of their bestselling guide to Fiesta ware. This book showcases over 1,000 colorful pieces of Fiesta and features the colors and shapes of the 'post-86' line as well. There are more than 50 new photos, including some rare, never-before-seen pieces. The popular Harlequin, Riviera, and Kitchen Kraft lines are also featured. Kenilworth, a line which has not been included in previous editions, and striped Fiesta are both well documented this time, and the Art China section has been expanded and will include many wonderful new photos of this early line. The authors have also included experimental items from the Homer Laughlin morgue, as well as the historical information so many collectors crave. Finally, current values are addressed and changes have been made to better reflect today's market on both the vintage and post-86 lines.

I am a newbie to Fiesta.......2007-09-27
I am brand new at collecting Fiesta Ware. I really enjoyed this book. Great pics. It has been a wealth of info for someone new like me.
FIESTA.......2006-07-27
This is the third book in this series I have purchased by these authors. I like the book a lot.
A jumbled up mess.......2006-01-24
One of worst of the newer "collector" books out there. There isn't even a color chart with the names, you need to deduce them by flipping through all the pages and guessing at collections of variuos colors and doing a process of elimination. Fakes are mentioned, and the author says "you'll know them when you see them". Thanks alot! All the marks aren't even listed. What about newer peices versus old?
Some Encyclopedia, more like ramblings of a collector. The medium green issue is already covered by others, the book mentions it everywhere but gives very little evidence of it (maybe the author has medium green envy?).
Not worth the bargain price spent on it. Certainly not a reference book.
p.s. I give other collector books 5 stars, so I'm not just a grump.
Huxford's Fiesta 10th Edition.......2005-08-06
I just received the 10th edition copy of Collector's Encyclopedia of Fiesta, and other related items. The new layout and design are exactly what this edition needed to set it out above the previous ones. It seems the forward is a bit lengthy. Each page is framed in the turquoise color. The new pictures are numerous!! And for those who collect New Fiesta (produced since 1986, the pages for this are expanded to include up thru Scarlet and quite a few of the pieces produced thus far in color pictures. I rate this book at 4 stars for one reason. I feel the prices are inflated and out of line. Yes, there will always be some "rare" items at high prices. There are a fair share of pictures that are the same as previous books as well.
A Good Beginning.......2005-07-10
The title of this book "Fiesta" can be a little misleading to the novice or seasoned collector. Beyond actual Fiesta and Fiestaware by Homer Laughlin the author's detail company history by delving into Harhequin, Riviera, Mexican lines, Kitchen Kraft, even promotional items and advertising.
For Fiesta identification pieces the pictures and Plate descriptions are very good. Pictures, specifically are very clear and concise while the page quality is excellent. In particular, this book will provide a very wide range of history and the wide variety of products offered by Homer Laughlin Co. over many years. Although the title suggests a book on Fiesta, this portion is limited.
If your looking for price comparisons or rule of thumb the book is weak in this department, it does not effectively handle all colors preferring to provide information strictly on the "hot" collector pieces such as 'medium green.' Of course, prices quoted in books are strictly "guides" as the internet, antique malls and live auctions mix up values on a weekly basis. Current research and personal perspective will be the true guides for market value at any given time.
Fiesta is covered in the first 73 pages of this book (pre/post 1986) and then moves on other topics or products produced. This book would be a fine starter for the novice but additional resources will need to be added for a complete library on Fiesta and Fiestaware.

Useless to collectors.......2007-10-10
The book states it is a price guide. The author had pictures of as many as 9 pieces being auctioned and vague discriptions of some with chips. Another example is a Donatello jardiniere (with chip repair) & pedestal $180-$220. A picture of a Donatello bud vase on the same page just over 6" is listed at $180-$220.Yet another jardinier on the same page (smaller than the one that includes the pedestal with a rim chip is $200-$250.Auction prices for multiple pieces & damaged items need to be kept separate.
Warman's Roseville Pottery.......2006-09-05
I am not happy with my recent purchase of Warman's Roseville book. It does not provide a complete listing of suggested prices and many of the pictured pieces are described with damage along with a price. For example, hanging basket with "chip on handle." For a serious collector the book is not of much use and for the inexperienced collector the book is misleading--damaged pieces do not sell for anything close to what mint pieces sell for.
Great Beginner Collector's Guide.......2005-07-13
Great book for a quick overview on Roseville pottery, the different patterns and price ranges. Not a complete book but a good quick reference for those just starting to collect.
buy this for the beautiful color photos!.......2004-07-15
Though by no means a complete showing of every shape made for each design, it IS a very generous sampling of each design, with beautiful studio photographs cover to cover. That makes it a must-have for any Roseville lover- none of the ugly black and white catalogue page reprints. NOT so great for pricing information. The pieces are priced with their existing blemishes, which would make a perfect piece of the same design worth ?? how much ?? Also has price listed for the whole set, if the photo includes more than one piece. That is just not helpful when you want to put a value on one piece.
If not for the vague pricing information, I would rate this 5 stars- especially compared to other Roseville guides. Very helpful visuals in this one!

Recommended by Debby DuBay Author of Antique Limoges.......2004-02-16
I found this book after I went to a appraisal in Dallas Texas where author Debby DuBay was speaking on antique Limoges porcelain. I purchased DuBay's book Antique Limoges at Home and then purchased American Limoges by Ms. Limoges to help me with my American Limoges pottery. I found out by reading these reference books every thing I needed to know about my grandmothers "Limoges" Thank you to two wonderful authors who have published two very useful and valuable reference guides on the subject.
Recommend American Limoges and Antique Limoges at Home.......2003-01-27
I found American Limoges after reading Debby Dubay's "Antique Limoges at Home". If you want to know the difference between antique Limoges and American Limoges I highly recommend Antique Limoges at Home! For more info on American Limoges recommend this book.
Good basic reference on American Limoges.......2001-05-30
Full-color photos on every page and current price values for each item are the pluses in this book. Many items are not actually identified, however, and names given to the pieces have been coined by the author. Even so, this one serves as a handy reference and guide to those wishing more information on American Limoges, the history and major pieces. I wish there'd been more examples of Viktor Schreckengost's connection to the company and designs made by him for American Limoges but that is a personal preference.
A necessary tool for the collector of American Limoges china.......1998-07-08
Do not purchase any Limoges China, (american) without this book. It is a priceless resource to be carried with you as you explore antique shops. I wish that I had it with me before I gave away my American Limoges China, thinking that it was worthless. Raymonde Limoges has done a great job in assembling this book.

REVIEW: This book is an identification and value guide intended to help you identify a piece of Red Wing Art Pottery and given an average price you can expect to pay for the item. Weller Collector's Reference.......2000-05-25
This book was very helpful to me - I just started collecting Weller pottery since the beginning of this year. Although this book couldn't possible have every piece of Weller pottery photographed or drawn it is still a very useful and appreciated guide for any Weller collector. I am very pleased with my copy and would recommend it to anyone considering starting to collect Weller pottery or interested in placing a "ballpark" value on their Weller collectibles. There are some beautiful Weller pieces out there available for the discerning collector - with this book you are an educated collector. Good luck and enjoy collecting some Weller pottery - maybe our paths will cross?
Excellent resource for the Weller collector.......1998-08-22
This is the only book I know of that is dedicated solely to Weller pottery. It includes a very detailed history of Wellers conception and demise. A section on the prominent Weller artisans and all the known markings of the pottery is very helpful.
The main reason I bought this book though is for the color photographs of the different Weller lines. They are beautiful and it makes identifying pieces much easier. Besides a copy for myself I also gave one to my Mother-in-law for her birthday. We both love it!

Marvelously complete reference book for collectors..........2000-04-02
This is an excellent book. The Mangus' have put together an exhaustive reference on this collectible pottery. They cover everything! From planters to figurines, from bookends to cookie jars, from the design lines to the kitchenware, it's all here.
They include an extensive history of the pottery and its people (owners, designers, employees). They detail the various production methods used to produce the wide variety of wares. They include a wonderful section of photos of the various paper labels used by Shawnee (they used few, if any, backstamps or marks, other than the common "USA".)
My only quibble with this book (and it's a teeny tiny one) is that the prices shown are high in today's market. However, that's not the Mangus' fault, as it reflects the impact that online auctions have had on collectibles in all areas and markets. The bottom line is, if you're looking for a reference on this fun pottery, this is the book to buy!

An excellent addition to my library...........2006-09-09
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the authors for this wonderful reference book. I found the pictures to be of exceptional quality and the descriptions to be quite accurate.
For the experienced, as well as the novice owner/collector of American Pottery, this book is an invaluable guide. Take this book on your hunting trips... You will not be disappointed.

Papillon central.......2006-09-05
This is an excellent book to carry with you when you are scouring for Arts and Craft pottery. It's full of hundreds of amazing color pictures for easy indetification as well as suggested prices. This book focuses on specific brands and highlights some big name brands to watch for. It is a great reference for both collectors and resellers. You will not be disappointed as The Hanson's are a true asset to pottery collectors. Be certain to check out their other books as well they are equal in all aspects. An easy gift giving idea for this coming holiday season!
Thanks for putting out this much anticipated guide!
Sharp, Clear and Concise.......2006-09-01
The Hanson' book on American Art Pottery is a most useful and easily read book of its kind. The photographs are sharp, clean and show the pottery, their shape, color and design as they were meant to be seen. Also, the production of the book presents itself well to the viewer. Although not a long time collector, I'd say this is a "must have" for new and seasoned collectors. I'd give this five stars.
Hansons deliver another outstanding collecting guide!.......2006-09-01
This book has wonderful enlarged photo details that are essential for accurate identification and are invaluable to a pottery collector. For example, the book has photos of every glaze produced by Nelson McCoy which really goes far beyond most of the books I've seen. The summaries of the pottery makers give essential details (that other books do not provide) on how to identify a potential work of art. The updated pricing guides are very helpful as well. Thanks!

Not the Most Comprehensive Guide.......2007-05-12
Nice enough book, but it is so hard to really provide a complete guide to such a broad subject. I was looking for information about Brayton Laguna blackamoors, and the offering was sparse, nothing more than a line in the index, and a brief description in the text. Maybe the author will do a book on Brayton Laguna blackamoors one day. Anyway, I returned this book because it did not fit my needs. It is hardly an encyclopedia, but rather a pretty picture book with some expanded captions as text. If you want a real tutorial on California pottery, work the search engines at eBay or Google...you can spend hours reading and looking at pictures.
California Pottery.......2007-01-15
This is an excellent book that I use often to identify pottery pieces. Not only does it contain beautiful clear photos of pottery it also provides a wonderful brief, well written, history of the various potters and potteries. Very informative indeed! I also reccommend California Pottery Scrapbook by this same auther.
Exceptional Resource.......2005-12-03
Great guide that covers a good majority of California Potteries with a good selection of works from each potter. Values are not too inflated and color pictures are wonderful. A must if you need a general guide to vintage California Pottery, a hot item right now.
Great reference for California pottery !.......2003-08-10
Being that I live in Ohio, the big pottery names here are ones like McCoy, Roseville, and Weller. I knew nothing about any of the West Coast pottery companies. I desperately needed a source of reference. I chose this book and I have not been disappointed. It covers 28 companies, gives a biography of each, shows examples of the marks used, and very clear photos of items made by each.Descriptions and values of the items shown are also included.I highly recommend this book for any pottery buyers library.
An excellent book for any California pottery collector!.......1999-11-08
I would recommened this book to anyone interested in collecting California pottery. This book has a large selection of photos of the various types of pottery produced and the different markings used on the pottery.

Maybe.......2007-07-13
I really thought I was getting more of a descriptive guidebook, rather than a photo book. Lots of pics but nothing to say about them.
Van Biggle Art Pottery.......2007-05-16
A liitle hard to use and slightly out of date. But a very good resource to start valueing your Van Briggle.
Top Notch Guide.......2000-08-23
This book is fabulous. I can't begin to say how many times I have read it and flipped through the pages for information. It is clearly written and the information is presented in such a way that even the novice collector can easily find details from glaze color and dating to prices. Price guide being located in the back is rather annoying (rather than the value being listed directly with the photo) but this a small price to pay for such a fabulous resource. For the more advanced collector, I recommend Scott Nelson's "A Collector's Guide to Van Briggle Pottery".
An excellent reference for the collector of this art pottery.......2000-04-01
This is a great book. It contains just about everything a collector of van Briggle might need to know, with the exception of a truly accurate price guide. Online auctions have rendered price guides in most reference books of this type obsolete, so this isn't really a flaw. It gives one a jumping-off point, but be aware current values online are often less than those listed here.
That being said, this book is very effective at providing information about this wonderful art pottery. The authors provide us a history of the potter and his work, with a number of historical photos. There is an extremely useful section showing various marks (backstamps) used, allowing one to identify and date pieces. There are hundreds of well shot photos of pieces, giving examples of techniques and glazes used. All in all an excellent value and sure to please.
Best Van Briggle Reference I've Seen..........2000-03-05
This reference provides a history of the Van Briggle Pottery, with a focus on the early history. The tips for dating pieces by glaze color, clay texture/color, and bottom condition are invaluable for new collectors. This is a must-read for anyone interest in Van Briggle, especially since it's really the only reference book on the market!
