The Definitive Book on Period Furniture.......2007-08-12
This is the most thorough, extensive, well-organized, beautifully photographed book on period furniture and interiors on the market today. It should be a required text for all design schools as well as a treasured resource for collectors, historians, and lovers of furniture of all kinds. Well worth it at twice the price.
A Must Have .......2007-05-13
This book is amazing, and needs to be on your shelf if you are involved in Interior Design, Historical Renovation, miniatures construction, film making, etc., etc! What I like best is that it treats less-expected styles, such as Scandinavian and Russian, which are often difficult to locate. The photos are outstanding. The quick Elements of Style at the beginning of each chapter are nut-shell explanations of how to identify a piece as belonging to a certain era. Well worth the price.
Furniture: World Styles From Classical to Contemporary.......2007-04-05

The Seventeenth Edition.......2004-01-06
As a whole it is fantastic. But, by not listing the men's by name, such as "Leather"; it caused me a lot of time and trouble trying to find it.

Must Have for Rare Coin Investors.......2003-06-26
As a professional rare coin dealer, this is one of the books I recommend to new investors as well as investors and collectors who are trying to gain as much insight and information into numismatics "before they invest". In-depth and informative, Breens encyclopedia is a must have for any investor or collector of rare coins.
Walter Breen's Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. & Colonial Coin.......2003-03-05
Perhaps only a coin collector can realy appreciate this book for what it truly represents, but anyone that wants to know about a coin variety can use it !! This book is a one stop shopping coin variety encyclopedia. Variety of coin means nothing more than coin variations, the different things done in manufacturing throughout a coins life that differentiate from any other of the same minted coins in series. The Lincoln cent has been minted for almost 100 years; and there are litteraly 1000s' of Lincoln cent varieties, ie: 1909, 1909s, 1909svdb, 1922 plain no "d" weak obverse & strong reverse, 1960 lrg. date, 1960 sml. date, 1955/55 double die, and on ....... These variations hold true for all coins ever minted in the U.S. The pictorial examples of these variations, not to mention the research that went into them, is surpassed by none !! Its always been difficult for this writer to acquire this book do to its cost, but Amazon.com not only priced it right, " it made it possible ", Thanks Amazon
Highly Recommended.......2000-02-18
If you collect US coins there is simply no better referrence than this book. It is absolutley full of useful and vital information for the serious collector. Its expensive, but worth every penny.
Get it.
The most important numismatic book in the world........1999-02-05
This is the ultimate book on American numismatics, and I use it almost every day. Walter Breen was the most dedicated researcher imaginable. There are hundreds of mistakes in the book, but there are millions of things he got right, so the errors are mostly insignificant. A++

The 22nd edition of the world's most trusted baseball card price guide. A comprehensive source for checklists and prices of virtually all major manufacturer baseball card sets produced from the 19th century to the year 2000. Thousands of new items are included in this new edition!
Customer Reviews:
Useful but not what I wanted.......2007-08-29
This book essentially is a Beckett PLUS (which comes out every 2 months) with more details (such as every card in each set is listed). There aren't really any oddball sets priced, which I guess is what the Beckett Baseball Almanac is for. Overall the book is very useful since it gives complete checklists and some extra details about each set. I just wish more oddball sets were listed so I wouldn't have to buy the Almanac book as well.
Beckett Baseball Price Guide.......2007-05-22
This was received in a very timely fashion and when it was suppose to arrive. Amazon is a great company. This is not the first item ordered from Amazon and it will NOT be the last.
Not thorough enough.......2007-04-15
I had not bought a Beckett guide in six years and was disappointed with how many sets have been left out. No longer can you find prices on odd-ball sets such as Coke, Hostess, Kelloggs, Post, Burger King, Squirt, etc. The guide is still sufficient for the main brands (Topps, Fleer, etc.), but for me the former should be included as well - it is not like it takes up many pages. Also the checklist style (with the box) is not used. If you have oddball sets, this is not for you.
Beckett Baseball Card Price Guide.......2007-03-11
For the most part, the guide did me well. I couldn't find some Topps All Stars Sets that I have, other than that it was right on!
What a waste.......2006-04-24
They decided to leave out a great many sets. No UD any year, any set: no Playoff any year, any set: no Upper Deck Pros & Prospects, Classics, Pro Sigs, or Leather & Lumber, Origins, Topps Turkey Red. These are just the sets we found missing so far. According to Beckett, this book has "Complete checklists and pricing for every important baseball card set from 1909 to present", yet they skip some of the most actively traded sets on the internet. Seems they are either totally out of the loop to what is important, or else are hoping to add more customers to their Online Price Guides. This book really doesn't even rate 1 star. If you want complete pricing, better look elsewhere.

Since the first edition of Collectors Encyclopedia of Depression Glass was released in 1972, it has been Americas #1 bestselling glass book. Gene and Cathy Florence now present this completely revised seventeenth edition with 156 patterns and almost 400 beautiful color photographs. With the assistance of several nationally known dealers, this book illustrates, as well as realistically prices, items in demand. Dealing primarily with the glass made from the 1920s through the end of the 1930s, this beautiful reference book contains stunning color photographs, vintage catalog pages, updated values, and a special section on reissues and fakes. In addition, for the first time all the pieces in the photographs are identified and cross-referenced with their listings. This dependable information comes from years of research, experience, fellow dealers and collectors, and millions of miles traveled by full-time glass dealers Gene and Cathy Florence, Americas leading glassware authorities.
Customer Reviews:
An Essential for New Collectors.......2007-09-06
Like many people who collect depression glass, I stumbled into it while breaking up housekeeping in my grandmother's house last summer. As we went through her cabinets and packed up the things she couldn't take to her assisted living facility, I found numerous pieces of pretty colored glass that I took simply because I enjoyed the various colors and patterns. When my mom suggested that some of it was depression-era glass, I went to the library and found a previous edition of the Florence's book and went nuts when I saw what these pieces were worth. My grandma did too! Later that fall, the book was indispensible when we were cleaning out my great-grandmother's house to put it up for auction. I found 5 large boxes full of glass. This book was very useful in helping catagorize what I had, and how much to insure all of it for.
This edition of the book is great because of it's photographs of each pattern. It makes it very easy to identify a lot of pieces just on sight. It also contains extremely useful information on reproductions which is fantastic to have when looking for glass, particularily at flea markets, estate sales and online where a lot of people mislabel patterns. The pricing is also helpful so you can see when people are simply trying to make a huge profit, rather than asking a reasonable amount.
The reason I only gave this book 4 stars, though, is because there are many patterns that are not included in this edition. In the foreward, it's stated that not all patterns are contained because it would cause the price of the book to increase. However, by excluding several patterns, you are forced to purchase another book which means spending more money as well. The book is also difficult to bring along to antique stores because of it's size--most stores won't let you bring in a large purse or bag. But overall, if you are a new collector or looking to become one, this is an important book to have in your library.
depression glass.......2007-09-06
If you are interested in depression glass you will love this book! It is full of useful information.
Review for Collector's Enclyclopedia of Depression Glass .......2007-06-26
The book has a well written narrative for each pattern along with photographs so that you can identify the dishes you have in your collections. There also is a guide provided to give you an idea of the value of your dish. A very useful product for the average consumer if you are estate sale shopping or having a garage sale.
Not what I would consider an Encyclopedia.......2007-05-13
In my opinion, this book was a big disappointment. I was expecting more of an "Encyclopedia." The book provides incomplete lists of what specific pieces make a complete set in a particular color/pattern. The photos are lacking in detail making pattern identification difficult and/or just plain lacking so you can't determine what a particular piece to a set should even look like. A better title would be "Examples of Depression Glass and Values."
Nice compliment to Warmans Field Guide.......2007-02-16
Good information, especially on how to spot reproductions. I also like the extensive photos of different pattern pieces.

Customer Reviews:
The DC COmics Encyclopedia.......2007-10-06
It's hard to determine the worth of a book, but don't judge this book by its cover. Why? Well for starters it is a great A to Z resource of DC characters packed in one book. There is not much else around so this book is fine. It does clearly address that the information may be outdated due to current depictions of these characters according to DC Comics. So the book is current up to 2004, but now outdated.
However in doing such a project there are errors that occur. The decision not to include characters altered or who never existed because of the Crisis on Infinite Earths was not the best of intentions, as it causes further confusion by ignoring the past, in particular if decisions by DC Comics are updated.
The layout of major characters in a 2 page spread, secondary characters in one page spread, and third place characters in half page spread, and minor characters in smaller captions were clear enough to read and refer to. However it would have been clearer and better if each caption for some characters who shared the same name were separate instead of labeled as I, II or III in the same caption. Some were, which was easy to read and clear, and yet some were in the same boxed caption which was hard to read. That part was annoying.
Now the decision to list a characters first appearance, despite revamps of origins or history were frustrating. Some had their actual first appearance correct, but others did not, and were listed by their revised appearance. Here is a list of the characters who appeared earlier than listed in this book: Angle Man; Circe; Dr. Psycho; Fire (Green Fury); General Zod; Giganta; Global Guardians; Hippolyta; Huntress; Jack O'Lantern; Leviathan (Colossal Boy); MÓnel; Peacemaker; Seraph; Spark; Starboy; Steel II; Steppenwolf; Timber Wolf; Villiany Inc.; Von Gunther, Paula; Zoom. Now if all characters were treated the same, that is the first appearance from their new history, then that would be fine, but this is not the case. For example Steve Trevor, despite the new history is listed as All-Star Comics #8, but Hipployta was listed as Wonder Woman #1 when in fact she too was in the same year and comic as Steve Trevor.
Now some characters were altered because of the Crisis or never existed, so revisions such as Prometheus III were mentioned, but I and II were absent, this is fine as it gives a reader knowledge there were other versions before hand. The rank in number implies there were previous versions. As a result there are notable errors such as Cheetah II (Deborah Domaine) who was omitted, so Cheetah II in this book should be III, III should be IV to avoid confusion. Silver Swan I (Helen) was erased, but in this book I should be II and II should be III. Otherwise who is Mirror Master II? Only Mirror Master I and III are mentioned in this book.
Characters such as Lump were not even titled properly, so you had to read the listing to work out who has been given a 'blank' entry.
Where is Etta Candy, Batwoman and Bat-Girl, Hawkgirl I, Queen Bee Zazzala, Red Tornado I (Ma Hunkel), Star Sapphire (the Secret Society version), Time Trapper, White Magician? Surely these characters are just as important, if not more so than some other minor characters listed.
Also the idea of not mentioning the Crisis is fine, if that were the case, but why show a back flash of Gaucho (page 123) with a pre-crisis Wonder Woman when they never met in current continuity? Pictures of the silver age JLA stating Black Canary was a founding member when it is clearly Wonder Woman in the pictures is just plain confusing.
In any case, due to the events of the Infinite Crisis of 2006, some of these entries are now void, as some silver age history has been restored. So in the end it was best not to avoid the "actual" historical listings of characters. By listing properly their actual first appearances, despite current changes would avoid any confusion. This way, even with revisions in current comic books, the encyclopedia would then be accurate enough.
In summary it would be great if they did an updated edition with a brand new cover and just stick to the historical basics and not base the Crisis as a starting point. List actual appearances as they were made, otherwise a reader who picks up a copy of say Wonder Woman Archives would note that Giganta appeared first in 1943 and not in 1998. If there are revisions in the entries themselves then that is fine as long as the historical appearances are accurate. Why then is Seraph listed as first appearing in 1982 when he appeared the same year as Ice-Maiden in 1977 who was credited correctly? It seems the author of this book was biased for some reason.
Again it is not a bad book, but only because there is no other encyclopedia with DC Characters such as this. Not bad, a little inaccurate, but not too bad.
price finder.......2007-09-27
I'm always looking for the best price. So while looking at the magazine ABC Distributing, I found this book and The Marvel Encyclopeda for only $16.95. So why would Amazon sell these book for a higher price? Even with tax and shipping the cost was under $40.00 for both. Always shop around before buying from Amazon.
Cant go wrong.......2007-08-17
It being the only DC encyclopedia that I know of in existance you cant go wrong lots and lots of bios but some are amiss and in some instances it could be more discriptive but great for any fan either way
DC Comics Encyclopedia.......2007-08-03
A must have for any comic book/superhero fan. Along with the Marvel Encyclopedia gives you details & a over-view of characters & plot lines. Very good read.

Good information.......2007-03-11
This book is a must for US stamp collecting. Use it often to find hidden information.
stunning.......2007-01-05
As a newcomer to American Philately I found this work to be
erudite, logical in its layout and, most importantly, very easy to
read.
Very informative........2007-01-05
This is a well put together book. It's very informative and entertaining. The full color illustrations are a plus. Overall great value for the money for any stamp collector, beginner or expert.
Stamp Lovers Alert.......2006-11-15
Encyclopedia of United States Stamps and Stamp Collecting is not intended to replace the requisite catalogue, but meant to supplement it. Its sixty-two chapters are divided into three parts. "Stamps of the United States" spans thirty-one chapters and covers definitives, commemoratives, special purpose stamps, and postal stationary. The first two chapters discuss postage before stamps and are well-researched and concise without being simplistic.
"History, Production and Technology" claims twenty-four chapters and covers the history of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, United States Postal Service, and technology of stamp production. The last seven chapters focus on related collectables such as first-day covers, metered mail, seals, and cancellations. Appendix A is a glossary of terms. It is unfortunate that this glossary is not available as a stand-alone publication as it would complement a catalogue well. Appendix B and C are print and web resources. Appendix D is a list of benefactors without an explanation of their generosity.
Each chapter has an almanac, a reference for additional information, and relevant quotes from that period. Some chapters have notes for collectors or examples of postal usage. All of these addendums serve to make philately more interesting for novice and seasoned collectors alike.
Curiously, this publication has no index making it difficult to cross-reference issues that are cited in multiple entries. The term "encyclopedia" would imply that the book contains detailed information on every US stamp issued (until its publication). In this regard it is a disappointment as some issues are not covered at all, and a large number are given perfunctory treatment.
Generally, an interpretative review of the socio-political factors that prompted an issue or public reactions to it is lacking in its depth of coverage. Technological factors essential in the production of stamps are adequately covered and well presented. While the glossy pages enhance the vibrant color reproductions, these pages are not conducive to writing personal notes.
One can debate if the book is truly an encyclopedia. However, it is packed with interesting facts and insights making it a wonderful companion to any philatelist's United States stamp catalogue.
Armchair Interviews says: Great for stamp lovers.

Customer Reviews:
My Favorite Book!.......2004-01-27
At first, I only wanted to see the new figures. But then I looked at the 60s figures and wanted the 40th Anniversary sets. I agree, the "prototypes" were fake but the book was still good. It is the only book I read. A great edition to your collection. Buy and Enjoy!
Fun photos, some fakes.......2002-10-11
This book for some reason includes re-creations of proto-types. How do you recreate a prototype? Sounds like a dumb idea to me. ...I don't know, but I liked the book mostly because of the interesting photos of GI Joes, and the information that it added to what I already know. The parts of the book (like the value guide) which I thought were garbage I just skipped over. There are lots of entertaining photos in the book, and interesting information too. Is it some kind of Collector's Bible for GI Joe? No, I don't think so.
Be Very, Very Careful!.......2002-08-28
While Santelmo's book is valuable for all the interviews with early GI Joe creators, collectors who have not had experience handling rare items can be easily misled by the many photos of so-called "prototypes" which were "re-created" for the book. Because the "re-creations" are not clearly marked there is significant concern that when these surface in collecting circles they will be thought authentic because of their association with the book. The price guide is also virtually useless as it undervalues some very rare pieces and wildly overvalues some more common ones. Buyer Beware!
Joemazing.......2002-03-23
This book rocks! I can't say enough good things about it. Very well put together and great pics. It makes me want to get my joes out of the attic.
A Very Good Standard Reference Guide.......2001-12-22
While some hardcore collectors and professional critics have found some small points to pick at in this book, most reasonable collectors will find it to be just what it purports to be: A very good standard reference guide to one of our all time favorite toys G.I. Joe. So find a comfortable chair, turn off the TV, flip open the book and get reacquainted with a old childhood friend G.I. Joe.
