Super Catalog of Baseball Cards.......2007-02-15
An excellent and quite comprehenwive listing of baseball cards and their values. In fact there is only one set I know of, reviewed by Mr. Lemke a year ago in Sports Collectors Digest, that was not included in the catalog. Still, I would recommend it most highly.
Not all cards are listed, pages were out of order.......2007-02-10
The book is better than most, of course, but it doesn't list many cards. For example, in the 2005 issue, there were cards listed, but in the 2007 issue, those cards were removed for some reason. Plus, in my initial issue, the pages were out of order in about 100 page increments. Thank goodness Amazon replaced it for me and the second issue was correctly paged.
Disappointment .......2007-01-19
I ordered this for my baseball card collecting husband and am very disappointed because the pages are not in order. There is a very large section of pages out of sequence. It makes it very difficult for my husband to rate and price his cards. I would love to return this defective book for a correct one! Then perhaps my confidence in ordering through Amazon would be restored.

About as good as I see out there..........2007-01-10
The 2007 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards has the greatest breadth of any of the baseball card valuations that I've seen on the market, including Becketts. It gives approximate worth for diverse cards in Near Mint, Excellent and Very Good condition, and includes quite a range of cards from the old tobacco cards to card brands that are yet existent. There are numerous items that I'd never heard of, but have stumbled upon, and this catalog has helped 'ballpark' their worth. That being said, there are cards that I have not found within the catalog, but this has been a relatively rare occurence and has not significantly impacted my pursuance of this hobby. There is some occasional disagreement with Beckett's, which perhaps reflects a degree of relativity in value/pricing issues for cards considered by such books, but its diversity of information and almost biblical visage are impressive!

Useful but not what I wanted.......2007-08-29
This book essentially is a Beckett PLUS (which comes out every 2 months) with more details (such as every card in each set is listed). There aren't really any oddball sets priced, which I guess is what the Beckett Baseball Almanac is for. Overall the book is very useful since it gives complete checklists and some extra details about each set. I just wish more oddball sets were listed so I wouldn't have to buy the Almanac book as well.

Not thorough enough.......2007-04-15
I had not bought a Beckett guide in six years and was disappointed with how many sets have been left out. No longer can you find prices on odd-ball sets such as Coke, Hostess, Kelloggs, Post, Burger King, Squirt, etc. The guide is still sufficient for the main brands (Topps, Fleer, etc.), but for me the former should be included as well - it is not like it takes up many pages. Also the checklist style (with the box) is not used. If you have oddball sets, this is not for you.

For the most part, the guide did me well. I couldn't find some Topps All Stars Sets that I have, other than that it was right on!
What a waste.......2006-04-24
They decided to leave out a great many sets. No UD any year, any set: no Playoff any year, any set: no Upper Deck Pros & Prospects, Classics, Pro Sigs, or Leather & Lumber, Origins, Topps Turkey Red. These are just the sets we found missing so far. According to Beckett, this book has "Complete checklists and pricing for every important baseball card set from 1909 to present", yet they skip some of the most actively traded sets on the internet. Seems they are either totally out of the loop to what is important, or else are hoping to add more customers to their Online Price Guides. This book really doesn't even rate 1 star. If you want complete pricing, better look elsewhere.

The book was what I wanted. But it was slightly bent and twisted when it arrived. The package didn't look to be damaged just the book.

I went with this book because of the name and when I started to get into my cards which there are about 3 thousand of them I relized that this books only has specific years of specific brands and sets. I started off looking for 1992 Dunruss which I have the complete set and they are not in it for example, then i wanted to check my Leaf cards and it jumps from 1946 up to I beliebe 1999 or 2001 either way Over 50 years not listed in Leaf. I will not go into what is in there for upperdeck. in short if i were looking for a book with a close to complete set of prices for cards it would not be this book. Spend your money on another book and get what you need.
DISAPPOINTED WITH THE DOCTOR.......2006-05-14
I recently received this book. I was surprised to see how many brand issues were omitted. Try to find various years of Stadium Club or Fleer Ultra for example. Many are missing. I am not sure if this was intentional or accidental. This book still has a lot of value, but not Dr. Beckett and company's best effort. I would look elsewhere for more complete and thorough compilation.

Serious editorial screwup--price columns not labeled.......2007-07-18
The Beckett guides have 2 prices listed for each card. However the meaning of those prices depends on the set under consideration. For a 1950s set the 2 prices may be for EX and NM; for a 1980s set they may be EX-MT and NM-MT. In previous editions these columns were labeled so you knew what the grades were. Those labels are missing in this edition. Unless you have a previous edition, this guide is not intelligible.

the 2005 edition of Beckett Almanac Of Baseball Cards And Collectibles, which even includes Canadian cards from 1912 to modern times - and coins, pins, stickers, team yearbooks and more. There are thousands of photos which lend to easy identification even in black and white, there are card grading tips and guides for beginners, and each section is introduced with a specific set of notes or collector's tips. Conclude with a glossary of hobby terms and series indexes and you have a top pick which represents a virtual 'bible' - and a must for any serious baseball card collector.
Great Reference, Why Publish The Beckett Annual?.......2003-10-17
An absolute must for the advanced collector.
This comprehensive volume combined with Krause's Annual Standard Catalog Of Baseball Cards, are the two most important tools for anyone serious about baseball card collecting.
My only gripe is Beckett simultaneously publishing their inferior 'Baseball Annual' at the same time. It's clearly inferior to their Almanac and borders on customer abuse offering a "lite" version for the ignorant just to make more money.
Still, that problem issue aside, the Almanac is a must-have if you're going take your collection to the next level.
The Bible of Baseball Cards.......2002-02-16
If you collect baseball cards you absolutely must have this book. It catalogs virtually every baseball card ever made, including variations and errors.
Why only four stars and not five? Subtle reasons, mostly. The main reason is that this book, despite being released recently, does not do a very good job of covering the professionally graded baseball card market. This is even more surprising as Beckett does have a grading service of their own. As such, the sections covering the history of baseball cards and how to grade cards is lacking and is pretty much a reprint of what's been appearing in Beckett books like this one for over fifteen years. They really could have done a better job of modernizing those sections.
However, as a reference book to help identity cards and give approximate values, this book cannot be beat. Buy it now!
It's ALL Here--Almost.......2000-09-05
This almanac continues to expand -- and become better. Each year, it has added more sets, more details and more areas of collectibles. It is about to ``outgrow'' its covers. But that will be a long-range bonus for collectors. Beckett and able company will be forced to split the book, probably taking out minor league cards. The editors have become particularly adept at adding team-issued sets. A complete checklist of McCarthy baseball cards -- rumored for No. 6 -- would be a great addition. The only improvement I would like to see would be for more details on some sets and certain variations in a set (how to tell them apart). If you are a serious collector of baseball items, this is one of the few MUST books for your book shelf. And it's getting better and better with each edition.

If you're a card collector, this is the book for you. Every set imaginable is listed by card #, example photo, and value. It even shows card set variations. For example, the 1916 Altoona Tribune set is actually the same as the 1916 The Sporting New set with a different back.
