Congratulations, you're expecting a baby! What you may not be expecting is all of the requisite gear you "need" to look after your dear bundle. Fear not. Denise and Alan Fields, authors of Bridal Bargains, are here to tell you what's super and what's silly, and how to find it at the best price. You'll learn all about how (and where) to shop for a crib and dresser (including how to get European styling at reasonable prices), what you need in bedding and what can be skipped (a hint: no baby requires the $200 quilt!), which clothing brands are safest and least expensive, and how to shop for monitors, toys, car seats, strollers, books, videos, and more. The authors have field-tested every major brand (and several of the minor ones), and they provide star ratings and annotations at the end of every chapter. A helpful feature in each chapter called "Wastes of Money" will steer you away from $35 Baby Air Jordans and frilly diaper stackers that match your bedding. If that's not enough, they offer a money-back guarantee: If the book doesn't save you at least $250 in baby expenses, they'll refund the price of the book. Well researched and written in a witty and comfortable tone, Baby Bargains should be required reading for every safety- and money-conscious parent-to-be. --Rebecca A. Staffel
Book Description
One of the thorniest questions new parents ask themselves is, How are we ever going to pay for this? With the average cost of a baby topping $6,000 for the first year alone, expectant moms and dads need all the creative solutions and cost-cutting ideas they can find. Baby Bargains is the answer. The book lists great deals and money-saving strategies for a wide variety of must-have items, from maternity wear, baby clothes, and diapers to furniture, bedding, and toys. Extensive charts allow parents to compare and contrast name-brand cribs, strollers, high chairs, child safety seats, baby monitors, and more. Now in its seventh edition, the book has been completely revised and updated to include new sections on toddler topics like potty training and booster seats;the latest news on hot strollers, including new models from Europe; new reviews on ultra-modern nursery furniture brands; extensive charts that compare and contrast name-brand cribs, strollers, high chairs, baby monitors and more; and a special section on Canada bargains, with expanded reviews on Canadian brands and discount sources.

Must have for expecting parents.......2007-10-10
This is a great guide for parents and soon to be parents, or anyone looking to find the best deals and best products for baby. My wife and I were very surprised at some of the reviews and information in this book and have found is very helpful in not only getting good deals, but making sure we have the safest product. More often than not the most expensive is not the best one (strollers and baby monitors were especially helpful).
We both highly recommend this book.
Great book for first time parents.......2007-10-06
This is a great book for first time parents! I was clueless on what to get for our first baby, and this book was a lifesaver. I even took it with me to register, so that I could refrence it.
Great book.......2007-10-06
Having a baby is stressful enough without the shopping experience, when it is time to buy is the whole experience is overwhelming, everybody has an opinion, the baby store gives you a big list of items which you might not need but they want you to buy, it is even worst if you are having your first baby, this books answer these questions: what to buy? when to buy? how much money should I spend? totally worth it.
Great Book.......2007-10-05
This is a great book and really helped us as first time parents figure out what we did and did not need. It is a must have!
Don't leave home without it!.......2007-10-03
I received this book as a baby gift before my child was born. We took it with us to register as well as when we'd go to the store on our own. It was an excellent resource. Also it really helped because my husband wanted to get used or hand me down items to save on money, but this book really tells you what you need to buy new, so that helped settle that disagreement for us! Our baby is now 4 1/2 months old and I still reference this book from time to time. I had it with us when we were in the store picking out a crib and a couple was having a hard time deciding on a mattress, so I showed them the book and she thought it was a great book as well. Excellent buy!
Book Description
From renowned pop-up masters Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart comes an awe-inspiring tribute to the world's most beloved extinct animals and their 180-million-year reign on our planet.
Open this book and a massive T. REX springs out, flashing a startling jawful of jagged teeth. Turn the next spread and a ravishing raptor unfurls and appears to fly off the edge of the page. Inside the amazing ENCYCLOPEDIA PREHISTORICA: DINOSAURS are "shield bearers" in full-body armor, creatures with frilly headgear, and weighty, long-necked giants. There are even amusing tidbits on the history of paleontology itself — like a pop-up version of a Victorian New Year's dinner in the belly of a dinosaur model, or a pair of scientists locked in a literal tug-of-war over bones.
Full of fascinating facts and lighthearted good humor, this breathtaking book includes fascinating, up-to-the-minute information about popular dinosaurs as well as many lesser-known varieties. With each of six spreads featuring one spectacular, large pop-up as well as booklets of smaller pop-ups and text, ENCYCLOPEDIA PREHISTORICA: DINOSAURS is a magnificent display of paper engineering and creativity — an astonishing book that will be read, admired, and treasured forever.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome, fun and educational!.......2007-10-10
Bought this on a whim for my 4 1/2 year old son. He loves it! There are so many pop-up dinousaurs. The verbiage is a little too scientific for his age group, but he loves hearing it anyhow. We like to read the section on meat-eaters over and over again. It's fun to look at, and is very educational. I learned a thing or two about dinosaurs myself.
so cool.......2007-10-10
I still can't get over that I got this awesome book for only 6 dollars. It was so worth it!
Domosaur PopUp Book.......2007-09-29
This book was absolutely amazing. The detail of each and every dinosaur was just phenomenal. I purchased several for Christmas presents. My 5yo grandson is soo crazy for anything dinosaur. I know it will make a big impression on him if no one else. Recommend child shoukld use this book with some adult supervision due to the intricate popups. The price was good too.
Really cool book.......2007-09-26
My six year old loves this book. She keeps it on a special shelf so it does not get "messed-up". The pop ups are really detailed and this book has alot of information. It is not all about the art work. This is a really cool book for dino lovers.
Fantastic Dinosaur Book.......2007-09-23
This is an incredible book. The pop-ups are beautiful and intricate and the text informative. I can't wait to give it to my son for his 6th birthday. The only draw back I see is if my 1 year old gets his hands on it.
Book Description
A timeless tale by the incomparable Kate DiCamillo, complete with stunning full-color plates by Bagram Ibatoulline, honors the enduring power of love.
"Someone will come for you, but first you must open your heart. . . ."
Once, in a house on Egypt Street, there lived a china rabbit named Edward Tulane. The rabbit was very pleased with himself, and for good reason: he was owned by a girl named Abilene, who treated him with the utmost care and adored him completely.
And then, one day, he was lost.
Kate DiCamillo takes us on an extraordinary journey, from the depths of the ocean to the net of a fisherman, from the top of a garbage heap to the fireside of a hoboes' camp, from the bedside of an ailing child to the bustling streets of Memphis. And along the way, we are shown a true miracle — that even a heart of the most breakable kind can learn to love, to lose, and to love again.
Customer Reviews:
Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.......2007-09-23
This book was a request from my 9-yr-old granddaughter which I read before sending. I was delighted to find that it was a well-written and beautifully illustrated story that hooked me from Page 1. Edward Tulane is a non-feeling, sort of snobby, stuffed rabbit, who in a series of adventures and after being passed from home to home through no fault of his own, finds his heart...and love... and finally understands that even in the worst of circumstances there is always hope.
Maybe not for kids? A bit depressing..........2007-09-16
The story was beautifully written but chapter by chapter I became more and more depressed. Actually, I wanted to put it down and just not read it after a while, but I continued. After such a dreadfully painfull and heart-breaking story I would have liked more than one page for a happy ending. Would I recommend it? With some hesitation... Would I read it again? No...
Great Story!!.......2007-09-12
I love this story. It is an interesting tale of one pompous rabbit's journey in learning to love. Very sweet and teaches that there are good and sometimes not so good people in all walks of life.
This Book Will Deepen You.......2007-08-18
At first I thought this book was a sappy emotional rollercoaster. Good grief, win, lose, win, lose, win, lose...what is the point?
The trick is, I was getting hurt and hardened just like the main character. I was sucked right in to the author's evil scheme.
By the end of the book, I was ready for the same victory as Edward.
I'll tell you what happened at the end.
I was crying and laughing and had to re-read the last page because I couldn't believe it.
My wife looked over from her chair and said, "Are you crying?"
I said, "Yes. Promise me you will read this book, and not just skip to the end."
"Before I go to bed?" she said. It is 10:45pm.
"No, but you have to read this book. It's incredible."
So there you go. Check it out. She is reading it now, and I'm going to go lie down and look out the window at the stars and name the constellations!
A great read for anyone with a heart.......2007-08-07
"Edward Tulane" is a parable about learning to love, learning compassion, and then learning to love even knowing that it could lead to being hurt. DiCamillo is a marvelous story-teller, excercising tremendous control of the story. "Edward Tulane" reads like the layers of an onion being carefully and deliberately peeled back as Edward grows in his ability to love. A wonderful book to read with your late-toddler to pre-teen child, but also a great read for anyone with a heart.

The unknowing progenitor of a whole generation of self-help books, Wally Piper's The Little Engine That Could is one of the greatest tales of motivation and the power of positive thinking ever told. In this well-loved classic, a little train carrying oodles of toys to all of the good boys and girls is confronted with a towering, seemingly impassable mountain. As nicely as they ask, the toys cannot convince the Shiny New Engine or the Big Strong Engine--far too impressed with themselves--to say anything but "I can not. I can not." It is left up to the Little Blue Engine to overcome insurmountable odds and pull the train to the other side. The Little Engine That Could is an entertaining and inspirational favorite, and the Little Blue Engine's rallying mantra "I think I can--I think I can" will resonate for a lifetime in the head of every child who hears it. (Ages 4 to 8))
Customer Reviews:
Great classic, beautifully illustrated, with a few suprises.......2007-10-12
There are many versions of this story and I had read several to my 23 month old son when I decided to have his 2nd birthday theme be trains. I wanted something other than Thomas and remembered this beautiful story about the kindness, persistence and rewarded effort of a little blue engine. My son, like most, loves trains and now asks for the "Little Blue Engine Think I Can" story almost every night. If you appreciate original illustrations and timely references to toys gone by, you'll love this book. Surprise - the trains are female - no big deal just different from the norm. Also, the original version is much longer than others, (no so good for 2 yrs.) so I skip over or shorten some of the sentences and will read more details as he gets older. It's a great classic.
Too Small.......2007-09-21
I wish I would have looked closely at the dimensions of this book. It's so small!
Classic Children's Book.......2007-09-15
This is an all-time classic because it is such a classic, and as much fun to read aloud as silently.
Curiously small size book.......2007-04-18
Be sure to check the dimensions of this book. It's smaller and thinner than the typical children's book, and it's even smaller than most board books. It's a cheap price and good size for travel, but you may be surprised how small it is.
I can-I can!!.......2007-03-29
This is a very good book and it teaches a very good life lesson. It is a book that can be enjoyed by any type of public. I would especially read this book to a person who is giving up. It will be a very good idea to read this to an infant or a child when they are learning new stuff. This will enourage them to do may more things in life. When I first read this book it taught me that if I propose myself a challenge and I give some of my time and that I never give up I can do anything in life that I want to accomplish.

Customer Reviews:
The best!.......2007-10-08
This book has been my baby's favorite book from age 3 months to now (11 months)!
Great first book for baby.......2007-09-29
As mentioned by other reviewers, this is a flap book that teaches babies different body parts by playing "peek a boo" and hiding the babies' mouth, feet, belly button etc. This was the first book my baby ever focused on when he was around two months (I think it is due to the movement of the flaps and the bright pictures). At four months he still enjoys this book over most of his other books.
Bright and Colorful.......2007-09-17
I had never heard of Karen Katz until I came across this book last Christmas and decided to buy it as a gift for my then 9-month old son. One of the best decisions I've ever made. He loves it just as much now (almost a year later) as he did when I first got it for him. I have no idea why this book tickles him so much, but anything that keeps him happy an laughing is a permanent hit with me. We've since purchased more books by Karen Katz and he enjoys them all, but "Where Is Baby's Belly Button" is by far his all-time favorite!
Flaps hard to open.......2007-09-16
I bought this book based on rave reviews and recommendation for my daughter. While it's a great concept and the colors are eye catching, the book was a real flop for my daughter and I because the flaps were so hard to open. My daughter would lose interest between "Where is Baby's mouth?" and the time it would take for me to reveal the body part. When she was older, she also had trouble opening them, and we had to bend a few flaps to make it easier. I really try to avoid this book during story time.
Fun Read.......2007-09-13
Our son's only 3 months old and even though he probably didn't get a kick out of it we did....can wait until he can understand it!! HEHE

BE CAREFUL!.......2007-10-01
My baby loves the pictures on this book, but be EXTRA CAREFUL! The flaps can easily be ripped off. My baby chewed the flap on this book and vomitted!
Cute first book.......2007-09-14
This book is good for babies around one years old. It is a nice change from all the animal books available. The reader can pull parts of clothing away from the book baby to reveal a nose, hands, toes etc. and the baby can compare his body part with the one in the book. The only thing that was a little off-putting to me was that the the babies in the book were mostly girls and I have a boy.
Loves It.......2007-08-27
My little absolutely loves these books. I have to read one or more of the everyday.
Very happy with this book.......2007-08-14
Very cute book that keeps my 7 month old daughter still and quiet when putting her down for a nap. She always fights sleep and it's hard to get her to lie still, but when I pull out this book, she is mesmerized while I read it to her. The flaps are easy to tear off, but I have so far been successful at keeping her from pulling on them.
better for older child.......2007-08-13
My toddler likes this book but has torn a lot of the flaps. I prefer the flap books that have a stronger flap not just paper.

Book Description
"Please" and "thank you" are fun and easy to remember with Excuse Me!. Simple and repetitive, it's the perfect way to introduce those magic words that all little ones should know. From burping to breaking a sibling's toy, toddlers will love seeing these appealing babies in situations they know all about, and they'll have fun lifting the flaps to discover the right words to say-"Excuse me!" and "I'm sorry!"
Customer Reviews:
good start.......2007-09-15
we learned the book by heart and have been using the words in our daily life, beautiful book, awsome drawings, very interesting, and is on our daily reading list.
Positive reinforcement.......2007-08-22
I agree that there is nothing more heart warming than a polite little toddler. The illustrations are a colorful blend of good behavior. Although I believe the best way to teach a child is to lead by example, this book is a fun reminder of good manners!
Nothing like a toddler who has manners.......2007-07-22
Don't have time to put your darling little one in a dress and pig tails? No problem, there is nothing cuter then a toddler with manners. When my daughter says "Thank you" to waiters, or "Your welcome" to a thank you, or "I bupped mama, suse me." it melts hearts! The most amazing one of all is "Bess you!" when she hears a sneeze. I won't fully credit this book for that, but it is wonderful reinforcement. She loves knowing the answers on the other side of the page. If you are into manners, get this book. There is nothing more precious then a polite toddler. (It doesn't mean they will start listening)
SIMPLE--CUTE--PERFECT FOR TODDLERS!.......2007-06-15
I was excited to see how simple it was, and am hoping my little ones will focus on the manners! Very large letters, for easy teaching!!
big flop.......2007-05-16
I purchased this book hoping to teach my child basic manners when the appropriate time came. To my surprise the book was inaccurate in all but the first page. The colours are bright and the pictures are nice and big but in the copy I received the pages were duplicated and the responses did not match the statement. My book has no page teaching sorry, thank you or excuse me. I have a product I can do nothing with.

- The Vortex Launcher—a projectile shooter that uses air bullets for ammunition
- The Clothespin Snap Shooter—the PG-17 version of a clothespin gun that fires fiery projectiles

Another Gurstelle Great!.......2007-04-24
I just received this book in the mail and was so excited that I did a quick scan to see what I could "put together" NOW! There were so many fun things to do in this book. Very inventive. I love the way Gurstelle gives praise to the past by creating a steam cannon designed by DaVinci (which was inspired by Archimedes). I can't wait to build even more!

Have you ever dreamed of being locked in a department store at night? The endearing story of Corduroy paints a picture of the adventures that might unfold (for a teddy bear at least) in such a situation. When all the shoppers have gone home for the night, Corduroy climbs down from the shelf to look for his missing button. It's a brave new world! He accidentally gets on an elevator that he thinks must be a mountain and sees the furniture section that he thinks must be a palace. He tries to pull a button off the mattress, but he ends up falling off the bed and knocking over a lamp. The night watchman hears the crash, finds Corduroy, and puts him back on the shelf downstairs. The next morning, he finds that it's his lucky day! A little girl buys him with money she saved in her piggy bank and takes him home to her room. Corduroy decides that this must be home and that Lisa must be his friend. Youngsters will never get tired of this toy-comes-alive tale with a happy ending, so you may also want to seek out Dan Freeman's next creation, A Pocket for Corduroy. (Ages 3 to 8)
Book Description
Don Freeman's classic character, Corduroy, is even more popular today then he was when he first came on the scene over thirty years ago. These favorite titles are ready for another generation of children to love.
Customer Reviews:
A classic children's tale.......2007-08-07
Perfect, in that it reflects the fascination of small children with the things that loom large in their worlds (like buttons) and the reassuring happy ending with Corduroy going home with the one little girl in the world whom he was meant to love.
Board book version is disappointing..........2007-06-13
This book is basically a primer about the bear; there's no story to speak of and the little African American girl is not in the book at all. I bought this book because I was looking for a more durable version of the original Corduroy for my toddler. I am seriously thinking about returning this as I was looking to add to our library of children's books featuring African American characters. Bottom line: this is a completely different book than the original Corduroy. Don't be fooled like I was.
That having been said...it probably is a pretty good "learn to read" book, the pages are nice and big and the illustrations are cute.
The bear every child wants.......2007-05-24
This book is about sweet, honest, slightly battered teddy bear who longs for a home. Although he lives in a grand shopping center filled with fabulous wealth, this is no substitute for the warmth and affection of a mother. I like this story because it stresses the importance of not only receiving love, but also about giving it. Corduroy is lucky enough to find Lisa, a little girl who is thrilled to offerhim a home. Corduroy is exactly the bear every child wants...
The book is a certain winner for your child. Another great reading that I recommend are Why Some Cats are Rascals, Book 1, "Why Some Cats are Rascals, Book 2", Why Some Cats are Rascals ( Book 3), The Giving Tree, Love You Forever and anything by Silverstein.
Old favourite.......2007-05-11
I bought this book as we had had it in our family as a paperback until it wore out. Seeing Amazon.com was offering it as a special discounted hard cover copy I bought it to share it with my granddaughter and hope she enjoys it as much as my own four boys did. It is a very poignant story about love and acceptance which, despite its unsophisticated illustrations, touchs the heart straight away. Recommended to all parents.
A Pleasant Classic.......2007-04-23
Kids love this one for it's low-octane "conflict," easy artwork, and happy resolution. This one belongs in any parent's library of the 100 books that will be on the kids' shelf.
