doll book.......2007-06-28
Very helpful book - have really been enjoying this book as I have wanted this book for years, finally got it!
Very disappointing!.......2007-05-13
I bought this book to help me determine the value of a collection of high quality dolls that my aunt wants to help her sell. Our of five doll designers, only one of the designers was even listed in her book. This was a waste of my money, for sure!
Doll value.......2007-05-07
I am formilair with this book. It is a great book IF you know the name of your doll. If you don't it is not a good one for you.
Blue Book Dolls and Values, 16th Edition (Blue Book Dolls and Values).......2006-07-17
THE resource for all your doll questions on values and dolls.
Misses the mark in several categories.......2006-05-10
Although the Blue Book is the avid doll collectors' favorite price guide, it contains numerous categories that have not been updated for quite a number of years. China, parian, papier mache, and wooden, some of the earliest dolls in existence, have been gaining in popularity for several years now and the market prices, both at auction and online have been rising considerably. The Blue Book has not caught up with this trend.
Also, it would be extremely helpful if there were a comprehensive section that described the methods used in compiling the information as well as the sources of this information. Some of the prices are so far off the mark in actual market prices realized, that it makes the professional wonder if the numbers are merely picked out of blue sky.
The book is well structured and is the easiest to use on a daily basis, of all the price guides, however, serious updating and a description of the price compilation process, would improve it immensely.
Book Description
This new reference features over 650 color photographs showing details of individual houses, several hundred pieces of furniture made of metal, wood, paper and plastic, and delightful full sets. Thoroughly researched information is provided for more than one hundred dollhouses, which date from 1900 to 1990 and range in size from the miniature Marx Newlywed model to the large Mego Walton Farmhouse. The biggest names in dollhouse manufacture are well represented -- from Bliss, Converse, and Schoenhut to Strombecker, Kilgore, Tootsietoy, Built-Rite, Renwal, Ideal, Plasco, Marx and many others. The book also includes a list of sources for securing dollhouses and furniture, addresses of publications in the field, and a comprehensive price guide.
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic! I love this book!.......1998-11-27
This book filled my burning desire to know everything about dollhouses & furniture from the last 50 years. There are no gaps of missing information or omitions of important items in this detailed and comprehensive book. Quite a relief after seeing an army of inadequate collector books flood the market. I'll have hours of fun reading this. My only complaint is some of the photos are dark or of poor color quality. I want to view these things in their full glory.
A walk down the memory lane of my childhood!.......1998-08-07
This book is jam-packed with useful info, great pictures, and a very enjoyable writing style. I found myself constantly saying "I had that -- I remember that -- my friend had that one!" The book has been my constant companion ever since it arrived. What's more, it has sparked a new interest in collecting the old tin litho houses from the 50s and 60s -- items I had all but forgotten when I moved on to 1" scale wood miniatures. Thank you for a truly remarkable book, one which many of my friends will be enjoying, too.
The BEST comprehensive book on contemporary dollhouses........1998-07-21
Zillner has actually answered burning questions I've had on dollhouses and their furnishings. This is by far the BEST reference I've seen in 25 years of collecting. I highly recommend the book.
A must for a collector's reference library!.......1998-04-15
Informative, well written, well illustrated. If you're a collector, this book is a great reference.
Superb reference book, one of a kind in its class........1998-02-10
After searching for a reference book of this type for many months, I finally discovered this book through the internet. I have over 50 collectible reference books in my library and this one I would rate at the very top. A comprehensive, beautifully photographed, helpful reference guide.

best info on boudoir dolls.......2005-09-17
there is no other book that gives so much information on bed dolls called boudoir dolls. This is like a "bible" for doll collectors. You do not need another book if you have this one.
Packed with ideas crafts and collectors alike will appreciat.......2004-07-16
In Dolls Of The Art Deco Era, dollmaker Oroyan provides a survey of the history, makers and collectible items of the art deco era, providing both a step-by-step set of instructions for reproducing the style of doll popular in the era and covering the history of dollmaking during the era, and restoration techniques after. Packed with ideas crafts and collectors alike will appreciate.
Thoughtful, inspiring: Another Winner by Susanna Oroyan.......2004-03-26
For those of us who admire, collect, make and renovate 1920s and 20s-inspired art dolls, Susanna Oroyan has written a thoughtful volume focusing on boudoir dolls from the Art Deco period. Although the topic is covered better visually in another of my favorites, "The Magic and Romance of Art Dolls" by Stephanie Farago, the strength of this book is in Oroyan's excellent research, writing and wonderful storytelling ability. Her fresh and fun-loving writing style shines in this book (the illustrative drawings also are quite good.)
Unlike her other fine books, which focus more directly on the art, design and mechanics of doll-making, this book is a loving tribute to a period, aesthetic and style of doll that she very much values, appreciates and knows well. And for that we can be thankful, as Oroyan has contributed so largely to the doll-making world, with her vision, her instruction, and her art.
Highly recommended as another fine book to add to the resource library of "students of the doll."
superb.......2004-03-19
a real authentic and easy way to understand and MAKE dolls.
mrs.Oroyan must be a magician to write so many books,so variabile & so full of culture & reserch that is related to the art, craft, etc...
the book is reach, easy and wonderfull for the dollmaker! even

Beginner Barbie Collector- Excellent Book! .......2007-09-05
I mainly purchased this book to remember some of my childhood toys- I wasn't expecting the detail and page after page of pictures that made me interested in collecting Barbie's as well-
This thick hardcover book has colored photos of each Barbie both in the box and then a close up of the face. The Barbies are presented in chronological order by year by doll type- so i.e. Barbie from 1950s til 90s then Skipper from 50s-90s, then Ken, etc.
The book also has friends of the infamous Barbie and Ken couple; many of which I have never seen or heard of!
If you are looking for a nice photo array and price guide of Barbie and Friends. Truly the "Ultimate" Barbie book.
Ultimate identification guide.......2007-08-08
This is the best Barbie identification book out there. It's useful to identify those thrift store and garage sale dolls and their outfits. Each item is also described with identifying marks, etc. I have owned this book since it came out and it's the one I go back to the most, for complete Barbie information.
This is a Beautiful Barbie Doll Book.......2007-07-11
I love my new Ultimate Barbie Doll Book. I still have my first Barbie Dolls from the early 60's along with Ken, Midge & Skipper. I have over 100 dolls and found them all in this wonderful book. The photos are beautiful. The Barbie novice to enthusiast will truly enjoy this book.
The Ultimate Barbie Doll Book.......2007-01-13
If you're looking for help in identifying your Barbie doll and friends then this book is for you. I collect old barbies and I have found this book to be most helpful.
Fantastic!.......2007-01-10
All models in just one big book! Buy it now! If you like barbies this is the best one!

I got this for my daughter who collects dolls, especially Madame Alexander dolls. She uses the book frequently and likes it very much.
I recommend it although it doesn't have every doll made by Madame Alexander.
An A-Z listing of the dolls and their latest values.......2007-06-09
Linda Crowsey's MADAME ALEXANDER: 2007 COLLECTOR'S DOLLS PRICE GUIDE #32 is an updated collector's price guide no Madame Alexander doll collector should miss. It packs in an A-Z listing of the dolls and their latest values, and while it includes some small color photos, its value lies in the latest updated prices collectors need to make informed buying and selling decisions.
Madame Alexander Collectors Dolls price Guide.......2007-05-21
I was hoping for more pics of antique Madame Alexander Dolls, but it is good information.

This is by far always one of the best reference books around for Madame Alexander Doll Collectors. It gives you a great guideline for what your dolls are worth as well as exquisite photos of dolls that you may never have the opportunity to own or even see in person. I will be a yearly buyer for as long as they keep puplishing!

A MUST FOR THE BARBIE DOLL COLLECTOR!!.......2006-11-10
For any serious collector of vintage Barbie doll, this book is the best resource available. I have many other books on early Barbie and her fashions, but this volume is the one that I consistently use. It is an accurate, comprehensive chronology of Barbie doll, her family and friends from 1959 through 1967. The photographs alone are worth purchasing the book. The colors are vibrant and crisp. Each fashion is pictured with all of its original components. This is of great value to the collector in putting together an outfit. I keep this book by my computer for reference when making vintage Barbie doll purchases or bidding on online auctions. I cannot imagine collecting Barbie doll items without it!

Most Precise and Knowledgeable Hummel BIBLE on the Market.......2003-11-29
I have all, since the first publication, of Robert Miller's Price Guide to MI Hummel Figurines, Plates, Miniatures and More.
Mr. Miller has all the knowledge one would expect & want to find in his books after much research and many trips to Germany to gain this knowledge. This is THE HUMMEL BIBLE! I highly recommend this book to all Hummel collectors or to anyone interested in the collecting of fine arts. Very well written with explicit details about Sister MI Hummel's life in Massing, Germany & her schooling. Each known Hummel is pictured & tells of the Master Artist who molded each three dimentional figurine from the drawings by Sister beginning in the 1930's to the present TMK markings. A great investment for Insurance purposes when appraising your figurines by The Hummelking!
Hummels are Great!.......2002-03-03
This book is very well illustrated, well layed-out, easy to use, and the pictures are very beautiful. It's full of information, explains more than I expected, and it is a MUST for Hummel collectors.
Great resource.......2001-10-11
not only is this a complete guide -- but it is so easy to use -- anyone owning or buying Hummel's should have this -- I only wish I could find Guides like this for my other collectables --
Excellent for Amateurs.......2001-09-25
Even though it's proclaimed by expert collectors as the absolute source of information about Hummel figurines, Robert Miller's reference work is easy for amateurs as well. He provides insightful guidance in determining value and quality as well as interesting tidbits about production and variations in the figurines. His work is referenced by many sellers in internet auctions, but is also helpful in figuring out just what you already have. As a rank beginner, I had no problem in following his material and ascertaining the value of an inherited collection. It was also useful in helping me determine additions that I wanted to make to the collection.
Customer Reviews:
Most useless book ever............2007-09-16
Revlon Tv adds can be bad enough, Now they are selling Dolls? Right, and Sears has a good auto repair service.
Revlon Dolls and Their Look-Alikes.......2005-09-07
This book was like a trip back in time. I saw pictures of dolls that I played with and dreamed of owning. Recently I have been purchasing some of the dolls of my childhood to collect and display. The book is essential to help verify the authenticity of what I am buying. Is a dress truly a Revlon outfit or a copy? I enjoy referring to the book on many occasions. Kathy did an excellent job in documenting the history of Revlon dolls for doll collectors.
The 1950s, as portrayed by fashion dolls of the era.......2005-02-14
As a collector of 1950s fashion dolls, I can't buy a doll lately without checking this book -- for authenticity of outfits, identification of obscure companies, or comparing original dolls with "knock-offs." The Revlon information is the most complete available anywhere, in print or on the web. The additional info on similar dolls produced by competing companies is just as valuable. (No Madame Alexander info, but there are volumes of Alexander books already on the market.) And, like browsing a 1950s Sears catalog, it is just a hoot to see authentic '50s fashions in idealized miniature versions. Good for nostalgia, fashion research, and to prepare for browsing Ebay!

This is a very good refence guide to use to find out information and value of all Ideal dolls. Lots of nice pictures!!
Guide to Ideal Dolls.......2007-01-11
I am a Shirley Temple Collector. I use this book all of the time to identifiy valuable dolls and outfits. I have learned so much from this book. A must have for anyone who collects dolls.
In a word.....SUPERB!.......2006-07-12
Judith Izen has hit another homerun with this excellent book for collectors of Ideal dolls. There are literally hundreds of wonderful color photos throughout the book. It is a pleasure just to leaf through the high quality, glossy pages. Even if you are not a collector, it would still be interesting to have the book as a conversation piece. Anyone who ever had a doll when they were young would love to look through to see if their favorite dolly is here. The book is also very well written with plenty of information about individual dolls and the different types of dolls. The 5 stars are well deserved.
Judith Izen knows Ideal Dolls.......2006-03-02
I have several of Izen's books and I'm never disappointed with them. I especially like the section on the PlayPal family group; I found a couple of variations that I don't remember seeing before. There are a few I'd like to have seen more pictures and info on, but I guess something has to be saved for the next book.
