Book Description
Popular quilting expert Ricky Tims presents an imaginative new piecing technique that quilters will adore! Convergence quilts feature two or more fabrics cut into strips, sewn together, then cut and pieced again. They may look complex but are fun and easy to make. Four projects walk you through the process, and Tims shows how to add appliqué, beadwork, and other decorative touches to achieve an infinite number of looks from one ingenious technique!
Customer Reviews:
Ricky Tim's Convergence Quilts.......2007-09-11
One look inside and I just couldn't wait to make won of these. Easier than they look. They can be so very pretty.
An easy technique that makes everyone say WOW!.......2007-08-25
Some quilting books show gorgeous quilts that you know you'll never make. The techniques are complex and time consuming, or the writing fails to give you confidence that you understand the steps involved. Perhaps it'd make sense if someone showed you just once... but the instructions are confusing.
Ricky Tims avoids these pitfalls, with a book that is *incredibly* well written -- and yields brilliant results.
Just how easy is this? I made my first convergence quilt top in two or three hours, while I was also watching a baseball game, using 4 fat quarters that I already had on hand. And I'm no quilting wiz.
Since then, I've made two additional convergence quilts, and I'm sure to make several more (the holidays are coming, after all). As a quilting instructor pointed out, these are like potato chips, in that you can't stop at one. I've loved every quilt I've made, and so has everyone who has seen these quilts.
Do note that the basic quilt is very small -- perfect for a wall quilt but not much more. I think you could create several of these as blocks to turn into a bed quilt, but you'd be on your own to do so. The quilt is so easy to make and I like the results so much that I am tempted to give it a try.
This would be a great book for someone who is fairly new to quilting. I wouldn't suggest it as your very first book (you should do at least a few small traditional projects first), but the forgiving nature of the techique is sure to give you a quilt to be proud of. It's all straight lines, and despite the appearance of the quilt it has no complex piecing. What fun! Highly recommended.
Convergence Quilting.......2007-06-07
This book is a fantastic starting point to creating your own convergence quilt. The step-by-step instructions are very clear and the examples so varied and intriguing that you are inspired to step outside your comfort zone and create something totally unique and different. If you're ready to try a new and exciting technique, this book is for you!
Simple but spectacular.......2007-04-05
What a fun concept this technique is for both beginning and experienced quilters. It is basic strip piecing and takes advantage of some of the fabulous batiks and hand-dyed fabrics available today. Most of my quilting friends who've used this book took their basic Convergence pieced quilt top and embellished/appliqued them to the nth degree. It is a contemporary look to say the least.
This Book is FUN!!.......2007-03-06
Once again I will sing the praises of Ricky Tims and his "think outside of the box" tips & techniques. He understands we are not all degreed artists, and some us are a bit more creatively challenged than others. He, once again, shows some simple, yet at times a bit daring, techniques that will yield results to impress even the best artists. (I know because I was able to WOW a couple of pros with Masters Degrees in Graphic Art.) Anyone can do this, even children. You just need to be able to bring yourself to sew it together then cut it apart, a phobia you will quickly get over. Ricky actually shows you how to "break the rules" and live with yourself for doing so, because the results are amazing & totally unique every time! These techniques work with any fabric or color choice. (I intentionally put together 3 fabrics that normally would not work with each other- purple, orange, and green- just to see, and had fantastic results!) You can't go wrong, no matter what choices you make, and best of all, you don't waste fabric! It takes only a little to "test" your idea, and even that becomes a work of art all on its own. I HIGHLY recommend this book... It is FUN!!!!!

9-Patch Pizzazz: Fast, Fun & Finished in a Day .......2007-09-18
Very easy pattern, good for a beginner or someone wanting to do a quick easy quilt.
Is this really quilting?.......2007-06-29
It's a book about using large-scale fabrics and nine-patch blocks placed here-and-there to give some sort of effect. Sorry, but I just don't think this is quilting. Just sloppily putting together fabrics. It's easy to finish these projects in a day because there are not many pieces. The nine-patch blocks are thrown all over the place. It's like either making a cake with a box of Duncan Hines cake mix and canned frosting or making a cake from scratch with home-made frosting that takes time, care, and lots of love. That's true with quilting too. A quilt should be made with time, care and lots of love, not something thrown together like the patterns in this book.
Great Options.......2007-05-13
I debated a long time before buying. Then someone told me about seeing a quilt made using the book and she was really impressed. The concepts are basic, the detail of the information and the explanations of best fabric use, colors, etc., are invaluable. It truly makes it possible to make a gorgeous quilt in a limited amount of time--and one to be proud of. And eases your mind about buying those gorgeous large-patterned fabrics. A very good book and well worth having in the library.
Excellent Used product.......2007-05-09
This book was like new and did not have any defects. I was glad to get this product from the "bookstore".

Tracey Ullman has been known for almost 20 years as an award-winning comedian, actress, writer, and producer, well-loved for her eccentric and iconoclastic humor. Complete with sidebars and vibrant color photographs, the book also relates Ullman's personal stories and reflections on her life in knitting. This one-of-a-kind brainchild of two perfectly matched creatorsone a master of knitting, the other a master of witis sure to delight veteran and novice alike.
Customer Reviews:
Great patterns.......2007-10-11
I am a novice knitter (just started this summer) but I love the patterns in the book, especially the Lacy Hug-Me-Tight. I can hardly wait to start working on it.
Inspiring and fun.......2007-09-30
I am a timid knitter, plus Tracey Ullman being part of the writing team put me off. I was happily surprised to find the book inspiring and easy to use plus having fairly contemporary patterns. I'm so tired of the multi colored sweater patterns and this has none of those stuffy old looks. A pleasure!
Knitting Two Together.......2007-09-21
I was looking forward to this book. I am very disappointed. The book was nothing like what I had expected. I'm sorry to say, but I would not recommend purchasing this book.
Bargin at $5.50. Nice beginner book.......2007-09-14
I saw this book on display at my local yarn shop with the authors coming in for a book signing but I unfortunately missed it. When I saw it for only $5.50 on amazon I figure it would be a bargin. I like Tracy Ulman so I enjoyed the little blurbs scattered through the book. Some of the designs in the book are completely cute and I would love to make, and some that were uninteresting. However some of the tips and the colors and pictures in the book were worth at least skimming through the book at a library if you can find it.
KNit 2 Together.......2007-09-06
This is a wonderful knitting book filled with exciting patterns and ideas. Be aware however that unless you live within the USA you may have difficulty finding the suggested yarns!

My 8 year old grandson loves this book that we got him for Christmas. He works on it all the time. Would like more Canadian stuff in it but not really a huge problem. Would buy this for the others when they are older.

My 9-y-o and 6-y-o children LOVED this book! They are a bit on the "geeky" side but also typically quite boisterous. Very diversionary.

I bought the Sew Fast Sew Easy book for my girlfriend and she's been making all sorts of stuff. On the company website they have online classes. She took the men's underwear class and now I'll never run out of briefs. She also did the lacy tanga panty video for herself. Thank you Sew Fast Sew Easy! So I got her this book to move onto. I hit a home run with it. She now watches project runway with a new appreciation.

I love this book. I'm totally stoked on the projects I've created with it. I've learned a lot from this book unlike another boring sewing book my mom gave me, "Sewing for dummies". This is a rad beginner book as well as alterations and fittings. Any level of sewing should be able to get something from it. I also think the Sew Fast Sew Easy book is a great book to have first.

This is a really fun book, I enjoy the cutting and pasting stuff. I am 10 so I am not really challengend on some of the crafts. The DVD crafty fun is really good for my age, I have learned how to make christmas stuff, iron-on tote bags, necklaces and other really fun stuff.
Creative fun when you are short of your own ideas.......2006-11-06
I could tell my little three-year-old boy was bored and needed some new stimulation. I used the ideas from The Little Hands Big Fun Craft Book and together with my boy created many colourful artworks including an aquarium, mail pouch, masks, flags and scrapbooks. My boy enjoyed cutting, pasting and coloring involved in the process and we together had a great time doing role plays afterwards. It is a good, easy-to-follow fun book for boys and girls!
Little Hands, Big Fun.......2006-07-19
This book is perfect for your little ones. My 2 1/2 year old daughter loved the crafts we have already done out of the book. I also work with children as my job and also at my church. I highly recommend this book to all you parents, grandparents, Aunt & Uncles, All care givers, and even the expecting parents. A+ Book.

Purses and Handbags...got to love them!.......2007-07-06
I originally checked this book out at my local library, but since there were several projects in it that I wanted to try (and I have), I truly felt it worth the money to buy it. I loved the way she took the basic tote and showed the different variations for me to try. The directions were understandable and easy to follow.
Thanks!
Great First Purse Book. So Glad I Purchased It!.......2007-02-12
If you learn visually like I do this book has very good instructions and pictures. I'm not a very confidant crafter or sewer. This book however helped me start sewing again and to actually like what I made. I sewed the Hoop Handle Bag pictured above and although not without flaws, I was thrilled how it came out.
The first part of the book has basic instructions about tools and fabrics. Pages 29-83 has sewn bags, crochet, woven, photo transfer. Even a bag crocheted out of plastic bag strips. Good for teens. I use the instructions for the Oil Cloth Tote to make shopping totes any size and out of any fabric choice. Something I did do different from this books instructions: I do not trim the seams as much as instructed or trim off the triangle after sewing the bottom of the cloth purses. I think this ruins the integrity of the stitches. Leaving that little piece of fabric does not really add bulk. I use my totes for grocery shopping and they are holding up really well. (if you have trouble finding the plastic hoops for the Hoop Bag, search ebay under stores and you can find a wide variety of colors and sizes at good prices)
Pages 86-125 are all no sew and embellished bags. Honestly I will probably never make any of these bags but there are instructions for a cigar box purse, vinyl purse, tin can purses, book binding purse and more.
All in all having a little sewing experience will help and you may find you do alter some instructions a little, but this book is a great place to start making purses!
Great!.......2006-11-07
I order every one of Sherri Haab's books because she seems to be interested in everything I am interested in and all of her books are fun and fabulous. I would highly recommend this book if you are interested at all in making handbags of any sort.
Disappointed.......2006-10-13
I ordered this book because of it's 5-star rating. When it arrived, I found the purses to be more artsy/craftsy where I was expecting something upscale and designer-like. My fault, the cover photos should have given me a clue. Anyway, I was disappointed and ended up returning the book.
Great ideas from simple to intricate.......2006-09-03
This book had purses for everyone, sewers and non-sewers, old and young, small and large. The purses are hip and the patterns are easy to understand. I already had some of the patterns but they even presented them in a better way with great step-by-step COLOR photos.

Customer Reviews:
soap making for beginners.......2007-05-17
This book was very helpful with starting soap making
The delivery was on time. "thank you"
Great Resource For Beginners.......2006-12-20
In this book there are tips for making hand-milled soap, melt and pour soap and cold-pressed soap. It contains 19 soap recipes, some of which are illustrated in the middle of the book and look just like desserts - and no wonder with names like Chocolate and Coffee Lover's Temptation, Fresh As A Cucumber, Nancy Bee's Honey, Ron's Refreshing Raspberry, etc.
I was personally more interested in the first part of the book, but for those who'd like to make soap for profit, the second part of the book deals with business aspects, as in how and where to sell your soap, what to charge for it, how to go about promoting it and it covers possible legalities that is good to be aware of.
For me, an excellent book for beginners........2006-09-29
I am a beginner with soapmaking and purchased several soapmaking books prior to starting the craft. Of all the books read, this one was the simplest for me to follow. It was straight forward and provided one of the easiest and quickest methods for calculating sodium hydroxide and water. For the new soapmaker, I believe this is definitely one soapmaking book that you should read.
Not For Old-Time Soapmaking.......2005-08-28
This book is good for those who prefer to use the "modern" way to make soap, which is cold-processing. Why make soap in the first place if you are going to do it the simple way?
True soapmaking is done by cooking soap, and this book has no information on that process. The book does give helpful hints about specifics on oils and herbs to use, as well as other soapmaking knowledge - but don't get it if you want specific information on making soap the traditional way. James Herschberger is the soap GURU when it comes to classic soapmaking.
I'm so disappoint ........2005-08-05

Perfect!.......2007-10-12
I got this book and learned how to sew in elastic. I'm now making my own bathing suits. Living in Southern California I go through a lot of bathing suits and they're not cheap! I'm extremly happy with my amazon purchase.

This is one of the best sewing books that I've come across. I bought it for my 14 year old daughter who wants to learn to sew. Going over the projects and the information in this book, it covers everything you'll need to know to start sewing. My daughter loves it and is having fun with sewing. I'm getting her the Rip It! book as well. And nice job on the news video below!

A company that knows their stuff. www.sewfastseweasy.com.......2007-10-09
So I bought this book for my girlfriend who wanted to learn to sew after becoming obsessed with project runway. After receiving the book I did a little research on the company. They offer sewing classes to the public in New York City and have been for the past 15 years. I found that they had online video classes and my girlfriend took the men's underwear video. She wont stop making me briefs and I love it. She also made some lacy tanga panties for herself from another one of their videos. Thank you Sew fast Sew easy!!

This book is radical. My mom got me a couple sewing books. This is by far my fav. The other she got me, "sewing for dummies" was boring and didn't include patterns to work on. This book taught me a lot and I moved on to the Rip It! book which I also love. Do the skirt pattern and add a belt, it's so hot right now. I love wearing the clothes I've made to school. You won't be dissapointed
