Book Description
If you're primarily interested in finishing touches--the million creative ways you can use your favorite software to improve, polish, and add pizzazz to your images--this is the book for you! The first book devoted exclusively to the topic, Finishing Touches for Photoshop CS2 offers a treasure chest of creative finishing techniques. With chapters on frames and border effects, color and artistic effects, presentation, sharpening, and printing, this full-color guide covers everything from creative cropping to dramatic lighting, stock photos, collage ideas, combining black-and-white and color, selective blurring, storybook layouts, PDF presentation, and more. Each technique is a stand-alone tutorial, so you can jump in at any point without weeding through a lot of info that's not relevant to the task at hand. Even better, author Dave Cross' two-column format--with simple instructions in one column and lavish, full-color photos and artwork running alongside--makes the techniques instantly accessible. You'll also find several variations for most techniques as well as instructions for creating reusable templates.

Very Disappointed with redundencies.......2007-07-17
My primary disatisfaction with the book stems from the repetition throughout the book of the identical 2 pages of content to illustrate a particular feature. If it were better organized it would have eliminated at least 20 pages of redundency. The space would have been better used to illustrate additional photoshop solutions. Also, a traditional index in the front of the book would have better served the reader. Very much overpriced for the content provided
Excellent Photoshop instruction.......2007-05-12
This was my first exposure to Dave Cross - he is a consumate educator! I found PHOTOSHOP Finishing Touches to be chocked full of great tips, techniques and approaches to image manipulation. Dave's Finishing Touches goes far beyond the mechanical keystrokes to produce results - even though he does this exceedingly well. Gently nestled between the lines of names of Layer styles and menu bars Dave delivers critical information of great value to even the most advanced Photoshop users.
Finishing Touches has become my constant desktop companion.
Step up your images!.......2007-03-27

Most Excellent.......2006-12-23
I own 30 plus photoshop books and this is one I love. Cool effects.
Perfect Finishing Tips.......2006-11-27
I meant to write a review sooner, but every time I pick up this book, I find something new to try. This book is chocked full of detailed tutorials and variations to the tutorials. The book is divided into 4 sections: key concepts, frames and border effects, color and artistic effects, and presenting your work. My favorite part of the book is the table of contents - the TOC has pictures, so it's easy to find the exact effect that you are looking for. Another favorite - each tutorial has a short summary sentence or two, list of key concepts, and a sample picture of the end results.

A 'must' for any quilter who wants to add polishing touches.......2006-03-07
Choose from a range of designs and techniques to provide a professional finishing touch to a quilt in Bonnie K. Browning's Borders & Finishing Touches 2, a collection of ideas which uses an easy paper-folding technique to make all borders fit perfectly. Designs created by Browning use novelty bindings, scalloped edges and more to provide lovely quilt borders. Patterns, color photos, and suggestions for alternate uses of the bindings make for a 'must' for any quilter who wants to add polishing touches.
Great photos, how-tos and patterns.......2006-01-20
If you are looking for a good reference for techniques and also for some great patterns for borders, this is the book for you. Also, if you want to make that great Windmill Log Cabin as shown on the opening of Simply Quilts, Bonnie has included all of the instructions to make this quilt. I liked the border patterns especially ... some of them are borders from prizewinning quilters like Linda Roy's Best of Show quilt, Spice of Life, and Gladi Porsche's beautiful appliqued border in Keeping Autumn with Me. Bonnie has designed some new borders too. I'm glad to have it in my library.

Book Description
Professional designers know that it's attention to detail that truly distinguishes an interior. Light fixtures, door handles, textiles, fittings, accessories: these are the components that can transform a merely stylish space into something more personal and unique. Without them, even the most professionally decorated homes can end up looking like a museum-beautiful, but intimidating and ultimately lifeless. Showcasing actual residences in hundreds of stunning, full-color photographs, this volume zeroes in on the critical fine points and finishing touches that give a room individual character. Through a casebook method of presentation that mirrors the way most of us approach home renovation-room by room-Trocmé emphasizes a practical design philosophy in which functionality is as important as pure form.
Representing a range of contemporary styles, the featured interiors reveal how real people have addressed a wide variety of decorating challenges. A directory of sources refers readers to manufacturers of top-quality materials and products.
Customer Reviews:
They were not kidding when they titled this book "Attention to Detail.".......2006-07-28
This is one of the most informative non-textbook on interior design I have ever read. The author goes into great detail on the items she chose and why she chose them-hence the name. "Attention to Detail" is split into three major sections with several chapters in each section. The sections are Casebook, Functional Detail, and Decorative Detail.
The chapters in the Casebook section represent each area in a house. There are several cases described in each chapter. For each case the author describes what the client's desires were, each item in the room, and how it incoporates the clients desires. There is a floor plan of each room. She also describes a concept and how the case illustrates that concept. For example, the first chapter is about living rooms. Case Study 1 is about Ralph and Ann Pucci's living room. They like their environment to be "neat, but easy." The concept this case illustrates is comfort. The author describes how the color, style, and placement of furniture, art, windows, books, etc. was done just so to evoke the feeling of neat and easy comfort.
The second section Funtional Detail contains the chapters surfaces, walls, floors, structure, services, water, heat, light, and storage. In these chapters the author describes different types of items and concepts in each category. For example in the wall category she describes inserting walls, bare walls, cladding, tile, color, and pattern. This section does not give you step-by-step instructions on how to achieve the effects-there are other books for that-it describes some examples in each category and why you might want to incorporate them into a room.
The third section Decorative Detail has chapters on accessories, such as furniture, soft furnishings, and art and ornament. There is also a list of resources for the book.
I like "Attention to Detail" because it not only shows great pictures, but unlike most interior design/decoration books, gives you the decorator's "assignment" and how she accomplished it. The interior design style is modern, but the information can be applied to any style. I think this is a great edition to anyone's interior decoration/design library

A reader from Minnesota.......2002-10-03
As the title of the book implies - this is a book about "finishing touches" and decorating for Christmas not a quilt book. In addition to Lynette's gifts as a quilt and fabric designer, she is also an accomplished gardener and decorator. This book reflects her insight and ability to put that all together. I use my copy as a "coffee table" book during the holidays.
I love Thimbleberries, but this one's a Stinker!.......2002-02-10
I am probably one of the world's biggest Thimbleberries/Lynette Jensen fans - I have made over 10 of her quilts and have several more in the works. I have five of her books and have enjoyed them all with one big exception - this one! It's just a bad rehash of photos from the "Christmas Cottage" book. No projects, no instructions, NOTHING! To make matters worse, all of the photos are taken in extreme close-up so there is no perspective on anything. Do youself a favor: spend your hard-earned money on one of the other worthwhile Thimbleberries books.

Customer Reviews:
Very useful, even if you'll never make one of the examples!.......2007-03-03
I recently learned the value of a quilt label. I made a quilt for my 10-year-old grandniece, a kid who hasn't had much to call "mine." She liked the quilt, but she _loved_ the label, which said, "Made just for [name] by great-aunt Esther." ("Look, Mom! Look what it says!") Yes, I included the date and my full name, but the "just for me" value made it obvious that this girl will keep her quilt until it wears out.
So yes: you really should label every quilt!
I've had this book for a couple of years, and I've been loathe to review it because I haven't actually made any of the charming quilt labels that the author teaches you to make. It feels rather like someone who makes pound cakes trying to review a fancy wedding-cake book. But after the aforementioned Label Experience, I feel compelled to suggest that you do get (or at least paw through) this book. I learned a lot, from just the first few pages; until then, I hadn't realized that there were options for ironing-on labels or print-to-fabric.
That single "aha!" helped me improve my label-creation skills immeasurably (the previous efforts involved really ugly embroidery). For instance, the label for my niece's wedding quilt included a printed (well, ironed-on) engagement photo of the couple. Yeah, that went over well, too.
This book has several delightful examples of innovative quilt labels, which include a fabric "envelope" in which the details of an older quilt might be stored. I've looked through the book several times without making any of them, but saying, "Oh, isn't that nice!" every time. I just stick with my pound cake, I guess.
If you're ready to make your quilts even more special, this book will definitely help you. But even if you aren't -- One-of-a-Kind Quilt Labels will help you improve your existing skills and it'll inspire you to make an effort to improve them. I'm glad I got this book; I think you'll like it, too.
One of A Kind Quilt Labels.......2004-10-26
What a treasure to find "One Of A Kind Quilt Labels". Thea Nerud brings innovative ideas with clear, precise directions and beautiful illustrations to make every label personal and beautiful. She has given us the templates to exquisitely personalize our own quilts. Recipients of my quilts are reminded of the love and care that was sewn into their quilt by reading their unique and informative label throughout the life of the quilt. Quilt artist, Thea, has inspired me to go beyond the ordinary, making labels that reflect my committment to quality quilting, and create a legacy for those I love and sew for. Bonnie Upchurch
Many cute, fresh ideas.......2004-08-06
Wow! what a fun book! I will never make boring labels again. I love the little three dimensional animals for children's quilts. The section on making labels for old quilts was wonderful, especially with the photos of the quiltmakers and the people who got the quilts. A large number of the labels in the book were printed on the computer. I will try that and I want to try the crayon labels also. Might even try the cross stitch one....
One Of A Kind Quilt Labels.......2004-08-06
I love this book! Ms. Nerud presents a wealth of unique ideas for all skill levels. The writing is excellent, the directions concise and easily understood, and the book itself is visually appealing. Her suggestions are easily adaptable for other sewing projects in need of a personal touch that only a one of a kind, specially created "made by.." label can provide.
Informative and attractive quilt labels.......2004-07-21
Quilts should be labeled so that they become heirlooms. Thea Nerud's mission is to get ALL quilts labeled, and offers several ideas for attractive and informative labels. Thea shows how to transfer photographs and lettering onto washable fabric labels that become a permanent part of the quilt. The lettering can be computer generated. She's done a great job and shows several tested and illustrated techniques.

This is a Great Daily Devotional!.......2000-11-12
I have tried other daily devotionals, but this is the best one I have found so far! I really like how each day has a scripture reference and a story that somehow relates to that scripture reference. I usually read the story first, then read the scripture reference, then think about what God might be trying to show me and how the story and scripture reference fit into my own life (sometimes writing in a journal). The stories and scripture references are often very applicable to life and are good to think about. Sometimes life is so hectic that there doesn't seem to be time to sit down and have a proper "Quiet Time" with God. I am currently on week 9 in this devotional and I find time each day read the devotional and scripture reference and to apply them to my life. It is a great way to start each day. I have found that this devotional keeps really makes me think and dwell into scripture more than some other devotionals I have tried. The devotional for the day might actually get me interested in reading more in my bible then the suggested scripture reference for that day. This devotional has helped me grow closer to God daily in my spiritual walk, and I would recommend this book to anyone of any age if you want a good devotional to help you get closer to God daily!

Amazing read!!!!.......2006-10-28
One of the best books I have ever read. It has all the elements of a future classic. The characters are well written and as the story goes on you become one of the characters. Scanlan can make you cry with the characters as they go through growing up and becoming adults, as well as showing what real friendship and love is all about.
It was an excellent book - a great read........1999-09-24
The book was basically about friendship between three girls - Cassie, Aileen and Laura.
Once I started the book I found it hard to put it down.
The book covered the three girls' friendship over a period of time. Patricia Scanlan is one of my favoutite authors - I have read nearly all of her books and love them all.

With stylish fabric choices and a tasteful approach, this handsome--albeit slender--guide avoids the overly precious look that tends to invade others of its type. Projects include table elements (napkins, place mats, basket liners), decor accessories (picture frames, lampshades, cushions, chair covers), and bath items (appliqued towels, shower curtains, vanity coverings). Also offered are explanations for making lace flourishes, fabric bows, and rosettes.
