Ahhhh.......2007-08-16
I visit the book store several times a week to look at bead books, but I haven't actually bought one in months because nothing seemed to be really different or exciting. This book is different. I have been experimenting with beaded flowers using off-loom techniques for a while now, and I've had to compile patterns and techniques from various sources. This book has all of those techniques in one place so I can stop looking for projects and get back to the good stuff (beading!). I can't wait to get started playing with these gorgeous flowers.
Awesome Beading Book!.......2007-08-13
I have owned my copy of The Beaded Garden for two years, and absolutely love creating these beautiful little gems. Every flower I've made from Diane Fitzgerald's clear, concise, and easy-to-follow patterns has turned out wonderfully. I have worked with many bead patterns over the years, and find Diane's directions to be among the best laid out, clear instructions I have found. The step-by-step patterns are extremely well written and easy to follow.
Not only is there a huge variety of patterns in this book, there are ideas and encouragement to branch out (excuse the pun!) on your own. After beading a few of these delightful flowers, you will find yourself studying every flower in your garden and thinking about how to recreate them in beads. I find myself unable to pick up my bead needle for other projects because there is always another flower I want to try....or need to replace because I've given away so many from my beaded bouquet! You will be amazed with the flowers you create. They make great gifts, embellishments, and even refrigerator magnets (glue a magnet to the back of a rose!).
If you love to bead, will LOVE this book!
Inspiring and Fun!.......2007-07-08
I have been beading for many years and found this book one of the easiest and most fun to use. I wish I would have had this one when I started out. I have made all the flowers in the book and have been inspired to try a few not in the book. Her instructions are clear and easy to follow and once you learn a few techniques you can create your own fantasy flowers. I highly reccomend this book to all level of beader.

This is an amazing book filled with lots of great floral beading projects ranging from the realistic to the whimsical. I especially enjoy the awesome (and inspirational) gallery of photographs! I recommend this book to anyone who wants to create beautiful beaded flowers using needle and thread! I'm also impressed with how quickly I received my order from Amazon.com!

Different from other beaded flower books.....................2006-11-05
I found this book to be more unique than other beaded flower books I have and I have 5 at this time. Some real different flowers than the norm.
Fabulous!!!.......2006-10-20
I am absolutely THRILLED with this book and will be purchasing the others. Not only are the projects simply stunning and unparalleled, the diagrams are the best I've come across. I am a medium-experienced beader and enjoy trying new stitches and techniques. The diagrams may look a bit scary at first glance, but, after careful and deliberate study, they became quite clear and easy to follow. The "word" instructions are much less detailed than the diagrams, which made the learning process a bit more challenging for me (I tend to rely more on written instructions than pictures), however, the diagrams are really so well-laid out and clear that, after taking the time to study them, I was able to work fine with them. Indeed, after carefully dissecting the diagrams for one project, the other directions/diagrams were very easy to follow. My one recommendation to the author (if she happens to read this feedback), would be to expand upon the written directions (i.e. adding written instructions for the start of each necklace to identify how many beads you intially string on and where you make the initial turns), instead of trying to glean the information from the diagram). I love that she includes time estimates for the pieces (I've never seen this done before), and I love that she encourages people to bead with whatever materials they can find/afford, without necessarily having to purchase the most expensive beads. I would recommend this book, even for beginners, AS LONG AS YOU ARE PREPARED TO INVEST SOME TIME READING AND STUDYING THE DIAGRAMS AND INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE STARTING A PROJECT. Prior to starting the Apple Blossom necklace I'm now working on, I read and studied directions for several of the other pieces, making sure that I could follow the diagrams mentally. I had a bit of a slow start when actually beginning the beading, but in short order I was able to figure out what I needed to do and it was like a "light" when on and I understood her diagrams clearly. Now I feel confident to tackle any of the designs presented in the book.
Nothing special .......2006-09-04
It looks like a magazine rather than a book. Only few projects are nice but it's not worth it to pay $21 for those projects.
The instructions aren't that clear and neither the graphs, I would not recommend it to anybody since there are much better books out there (e.g. The beaded garden - Diane Fitzgerald).
I have seen many Russian books on beadings and there are much more interesting and worth to be translated.
Most Beautiful Beaded Flower Necklaces I've Ever Seen!!!.......2005-12-06
These are some of the most incredibly beautiful flower necklaces that I have ever seen!!! If you are not sure about whether or not to get it, make sure that you click on the second thumbprint showing the back cover with all of the necklaces shown -- absolutely amazing!!! Plus, these flower patterns could easily be used to decorate clothing, purses, or create vases of flowers!!!
Also, as another commenter indicated, if you need additional help, you can simply go to her incredible website, Jewelry by Varvara, and e-mail her.
I'm so glad that I found this book!!!
Many Blessings,
Crystal
PLEASE BUY The Beaded Garden : Creating Flowers with Beads and Thread INSTEAD.......2005-10-13
You won't be sorry buying this other book instead! It is in full color NOT like this book, 95% in Black in white. The instructions are not that clear for a visual learner like me. The other book: Creating Flowers With Beads and Theads allowed me to pick it up and start beading!
Customer Reviews:
Beautifully presented.......2007-07-26
The book is beautifully presented with exceptional diagrams and step by step instructions. There are many different varieties of flowers not found in other books, exotic orchics and beautiful butterflies. I love it.
I received my book very quickly, Amazon kept me informed via email that the order was received and when the book was sent. Great service.
And then there were three - or not .......2007-02-04
I've had Kelly's first book (as a section of a larger beading book) for a while and have had great fun with it. The flowers in this second book are just as beautiful. The instructions are clear and relatively easy to follow. I've already done a couple of the projects and they've turned out well.
Now for the caution flag. Kelly's first book is titled 'French-Beaded Flowers: New Millennium Collection'. This second book is titled 'More French Beaded Flowers: 38 Patterns for Blossoms, Leaves, Bugs & More'.
However, there is another Kelly book that you may see, titled 'French Beaded Flowers'. Be aware that this seemingly THIRD Kelly book is the UK's version of the second book. The only differences between the two books are the cover, the longer title and the publisher. The project content is exactly the same. Judging from the dates of the reviews written for the UK version, it seems to have been published first. Maybe the publishers of the U.S. version decided to add the word 'MORE' to the title just to be different. Or maybe it was some type of legal thing. The one thing it IS, is confusing to the consumer.
So, please don't be fooled by the cover, like I was and buy both of them. As far as I know, there are only two books by Dalene Kelly on French Beaded Flowers, not three.
Bead-Dazzling Garden of Flowers!.......2006-03-02
I've been working with beads for many years, and creating french beaded flowers for at least 20 years, and I STILL was very impressed with this book (which isn't easy to do!) The instructions are clear and the designs are wonderful! It's hard to say if a beginner would view it the same since I have been working with this art form for so long, but I believe it would be an excellent instructional guide, and a fantastic addition to every beading artist & hobbyist's library.
This book will keep you pleasantly occupied for a while.......2005-09-26
I bought Dalene's first French Beaded Flowers book and used it extensively. I was happy to add the second one to my collection. It is a very project-based book like the first one. I have made a number of the flowers already. The instructions are clear and concise. A good book for beginners.
Stop and bead the flowers!.......2004-04-19
Dalene's second book of French Beaded Flowers is a welcome addition to her first. I've already made several of the flowers! Her instructions are clear, and the flowers are just beautiful. Good work, Dalene!

Exelent.......2007-06-13
To beading flowers fantasist I recommend this book, because it has got a
lot of lessons about Flower beading. This is a book that one can't afford
to miss. Special thanks goes to Amazon.com for the presentation of these
products, which craft people finds them very useful
A Lovely Book But............2007-04-28
I buy just about every Beaded Flower book that comes along and have some rare older ones. Also I have been beading florals in tiny beads for about 4 years. While this is a beautifully photographed book and the diagrams for instructions are very well done, I find that the recommendations for wire gauges for these compositions is to light to provide long enduring work. If you want to use this book, substitute her recommended 30 gauge wire for 26 gauge wire and 28 gauge wire depending on the weight and placement of your components. If you are going to spend hours of time creating beautiful beaded work, it should be of a construction that will provide you and your loved ones with many years if not a life time of enjoyment. 30 gauge wire will not do the job.
well done.......2007-04-06
Your service is one of the best and fastest without doubts is reliable too . Well done !
absolutly fantastic.......2007-01-18
This book will gide you step by step with very colorful illustrations and how to acheive the wonderful blooms.
Absolutely love it!.......2007-01-10
This book was extremely well written and has many beautiful photographs. I admire her talent and the ease with which she makes her arrangements. There is much inspiration in this book. I have made quite a few of the products and return again and again to her patterns. The instructions are easy to follow and the pictures show you what the end result should be. There was only one pattern that I did that did not turn out like hers. I put some bigger ribbon in than she called for and it turned out okay. I would recommend this book to beginners and more experienced bead flower makers. I am quite pleased with this book and will use it for years to come! I hope she will write more books!

Pretty projects. Good instructions........2007-02-14
I bought this book because I saw some beaded flowers at a craft show and I thought I'd like to learn to do it myself. I had a little difficulty with the techniques in the beginning, but with practice and by frequently referring to the very nice, detailed pictures in the book, I finally got the hang of it and completed a fine looking poppy (if I do say so myself). I have since complete two other projects. I wouldn't go so far as to say the projects are easy or simple, but they are imminently doable. And last but not least, they provide the beader with a real sense of accomplishment.
Beaded Flower Excellence.......2007-01-04
The most beautiful & easy to understand beading book on this topic I've ever seen. I love it! Great pictures & information. Highly recommended.
Elegant little book.......2006-08-02
Photography is excellent. Very clear instructions. Good for new crafters as well as those with experience. Variety of patterns is excellent.
Very nice beading book.......2005-12-29
This was the first French beading book that I bought. As a beginner, it was a little hard to figure everything out at first, but with some practice and the detailed pictures in this book, I was able to come up with a nice finished product. The things I liked about this book, specifically, were how the first project illustrated the four basic techniques that would be used throughout the whole book. Once I fished the poppy, I almost couldn't believe it would be that simple! I also liked how each project was unique by demonstrating a new concept or some variation of the original four basic techniques (for example, striping the tiger lily and split loop for the dogwood).
What I didn't like too much about this book was that some of the flowers occasionally use previous techniques or ones that are covered later, and so a bit of page turning had to be done.
All in all, the concepts are explained really well, the designs are lovely and the book itself is quite pretty if you just want to admire the pictures, so I highly recommend this book.
Great for beginnners!.......2005-04-03
This was the 4rd book on french beaded flowers that I picked up and I found it to be the best so far. The instructions are very detailed with photos of each step along the way. More detailed than other books I have tried to learn from. If you prefer photos showing the steps as opposed to just hand-drawn diagrams, then this is the book for you!
The pictures of finished projects are gorgeous! Wonderfully inspiring, especially the "fantasy flowers" near the back of the book.
The only minor quibble I have regards the order of introducing new techniques. Some of the advanced techniques are introduced in later chapters, yet are referenced in earlier flowers. The instructions with say "see page such-and-such for this technique", and you have to flip several pages later in the book to find out how to finish your flower. I think it would have been better to have each new technique introduced in order. But that is just a minor complaint based on my personal preferences.
Overall, a stunning book, well worth the money!
Book Description
It's amazing that objects so beautiful come from such simple techniques! These French beaded flowers sparkle, shine, and surprise, and yet they're made just by stringing beads on wire and wrapping them around to form stems and petals. Some of these flowers serve as eye-catching ornaments; others are sublimely practical, such as napkin rings and tiebacks. Follow the well-illustrated instructions to craft wildflowers, roses, daisies, tulips, anemones, and hydrangeas. For each one, there's a "What You Need to Know" and "What You Will Learn" box as guidance. The dazzling items include Black Tie Candleholders, Forsythia Urn, Lamp Shade, Tulip Tin, Clay Pot Critters, and Mistletoe Ball. A Selection of the Crafters Choice Book Club.

French Beaded Designs by Donna DeAngelis Dickit.......2007-01-12
Easy to use and understand for everyone. Excellent
Another great book.......2007-01-10
I just received this book a few days ago, and I can tell already that this will be up there on my list of greatly used books! This book also has wonderful pictures of the finished product with much inspiration. I have not sat down to do any patterns yet, but have several that I am working on assembling supplies for. The directions seem well written and thorough. I would highly recommend this book to any level of beader as she starts with basic patterns and builds on those as she goes.
A Magnificent Collection of French Beaded Flowers!.......2006-03-02
Though I haven't had much time since I purchased this book, to go through each of the projects, I must say, the Vintage-style Beauty of many of the Flowers is Wonderful! The designs have a classic style that exudes an ELEGANCE, which is often lost in the french beaded flowers that I see more commonly. There's a lot of competition out there with other french beaded flower books, and I think this one wholeheartedly makes a unique place for itself amongst the bookshelf where my collection of more than 30 french beading books rest. I don't think you'll be disappointed, and surely you will be INSPIRED...I know I was!!!
This book took me to the next level.......2005-09-26
This book far surpasses any other book I've found in explaining the little details that transform your flowers from the ordinary into the elegant and extraordinary. While it doesn't provide instruction for as many flowers as do the Dalene Kelly books, the ones it does provide are gorgeous, romantic beauties. And you learn professional techniques along the way: how to make a precise pointed petal tip. How to lace-as-you-go. How to create more natural-looking leaves than just the normal cigar-shaped ones. I highly recommend this book, especially for intermediate beaders.

All my Beads just hit the wall.......2005-08-09
OMG! This could not be harder to follow if it were written in a different language! Even the first basic leaf is not logical with three different wires being called for but only one in the directions..... The pictures are nice, some beautiful flowers, great ideas on what to do with the things once you get them done.... but I'm going back to the internet to get the directions... those are written step by step and easy to understand... I'll get those basics and maybe come back to this for ideas how to put together flowers from those petals....
A Clear Guide to an Old Craft.......2002-07-06
Those who have ever admired the tradional Victorian beaded flowers under glass domes - or who have seen on the net how new techniques have added to this fascinating craft - will welcome the chance to acquire a clearly written, well illustrated beginers instruction manual. Many species of flowers are included from exotic orchids to native favourites; hints on arrangement and display help newcomers make the most of their work. I really got enthused by the photos and followed up with a search on the net to locate clubs and suppliers. I recommend this book to anyone looking to make antiques of the future, or to begin a profitable new hobby.
Not Quite a Beaders "Bible" but close!!.......2002-05-16
While these weren't the first beaded flower patterns in my collection, it was the first book...and I've never regretted my decision to purchase it! It is a wonderful resource, with clear patterns and assembly instructions. The fact that she gives general recommendations for colors then leaves the actual color selection up to the crafter/artist is commendable. (I very rarely use recommended colors in patterns, preferring to go my own way and trust my own color choices. I am most appreciative of the fact that Ms Kelly doesn't try to "hold my hand" when it comes to my creative choices.)
I am currently designing my wedding bouquet, the bouquets for my brides maids, as well as the corsages for the mothers/grandmothers in the wedding party...So far, with the exception of the beaded wheat I'm working on, everything I'm planning on using has come from this book! (As an aside, Ms Kelly does have a beaded wheat pattern available, just not in the book. However, I had already found another pattern to use before I discovered that...) The biggest problem I've had is trying to determine which of her patterns to use, if I don't limit myself, my bouquet is going to be to heavy to carry!
a delight to own.......2002-05-07
A nice addition to my collection. There are plenty of projects. The pictures are nice, the instructions are easy enough to follow and my results with the finished product is very satisfying. This is one book worth having.
Class with Dalene.......2002-05-06
I have the honor of being able to take classes taught by Dalene making the flowers that are shown in this book. I have found the book to be easy to read and very helpful.
Book Description
Step-by-step instructions and scores of illustrations show aspiring beadworkers how to assemble more than 50 botanically accurate specimens of African violets, hyacinths, sunflowers, miniature versions of irises, jonquils, tea roses, and many other glittering beauties. Also, helpful suggestions for creating table decorations, attractive bouquets, and festive Christmas ornaments.
Customer Reviews:
Underwhelmed........2005-09-26
The author may have been an innovator in her time, but the book does not hold a candle to the beaded-flower books of today. Large step-by-step color photos are almost a requirement for clear understanding of techniques. This book doesn't provide them.
Great book for beginners or experienced beaders!.......2004-12-13
I learned French bead-flower making from this book decades ago when it was first printed, and I still refer to it. This first Nathanson book gives you a good, solid grounding in the basics. The instructions are thorough and clear. Although there are not many close-up color photos in the book, there are now plenty of online pictures and groups to help with visualization of a finished product. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn this modern/vintage art.
new beader.......2003-08-01
Numerous projects!
But directions can be confusing as all the words and paragraphs are clumped together. More drawn diagrams to show directions would be more efficient than trying to explain it in wordy essays.
Since this book was kind of old, the photos will never do the beaded flowers justice.
Overall, I can't wait to start on some of the projects using the new techniques I've learned.
Second only to Virginia Osterland.......2003-06-29
This book is second only to Virginia Osterland's "Bouquet From Beads." I disagree with the previous reviewer who suggests that because Osterland was a student of Nathanson, therefore, Nathanson is superior. Virginia Osterland is the classic case of a student surpassing the teacher. However, Making Bead Flowers and Bouquets is an excellent book and I highly recommend it. It surpasses most of the newer books on the subject.
AWESOME! Still the best beaded flower book ever written!.......2002-04-12
I am thrilled that this book has finally been reprinted -- ...This remains the best beaded flower book ever written. (I recently bought Dalene Kelly's book, but was horribly disappointed; it doesn't hold a candle to this one.)
Virginia Osterland's book is also excellent -- but I understand that *SHE* learned from Virginia Nathanson, who remains the true master of this exquisite art. Beaded flowers are gorgeous -- breathtakingly beautiful. They make truly awesome gifts -- and this book also covers how to make beaded Christmas trees and ornaments, etc. But the flowers, alone, are all you need to know. With this book, you will know how to make the most gorgeous flowers imaginable to give as gifts, either alone, in a bud vase, as arrangements, as hair clips, wreaths, or whatever. You really can't miss. The directions are painstakingly clear, the color pictures gorgeous, etc. Since this is a reprint, it doesn't have as many color photos as more modern books -- but the diagrams and pictures are crystal clear, the directions painstakingly clear, and there are enough color photos to show you the gorgeous results.... -- I can't sufficiently recommend this book. If you want to learn to make these exquisite flowers, this is definitely the book for you. It remains the best beaded flower book ever written...

Bouquets from Beads.......2005-08-19
This book is a huge help with color, design and balance. Thanks.
This is a wonderful book for a beginner to have.............2005-01-15
Although it is dated from the 1960's nothing about this forgotten craft has changed. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The pictures, although mostly in black and white, are large, and show what the flower is supposed to look like when you are done. Each and every phase of the process of making French Beaded Flowers is discussed in detail. There is a section on arrangement and the kinds of containers you can use. I bought this book to add to my collection of books on this subject and was pleasantly suprised by how good it was.
The BEST book on beaded flowers that I have used!.......2000-09-15
This is a phenomenal book for the beginner or intermediate flower beader! I tried other "newer" booklets when I first started beading and was so confused. This book is very easy to understand with concise illustrations and instructions. This is a must have if you want to learn the beautiful Victorian craft of beaded flowers! Happy beading!
This book covers everything!.......2000-04-11
There are very few books on the market about this subject. Luckily, this one is excellent. The author covers all topics very extensively-- supplies, techniques, color theory. The variety of flowers is phenomenal, and the directions are easy to follow. Many of the illustrations are in black and white, but the color plates (there are 21 of them) are beautiful. If you are at all interested in creating lovely flowers from beads, you need this book.
