independant stylist review.......2007-01-05
Lots of great Marketing with little to no cost. Perfect to get the wheels turning when you are just starting out or are needing a spark!
101 Media & Marketing for salon owners.......2006-06-29
It was short and to the piont. Finished it the day I recieved it.
I wondered while reading this book, if it was for the salon bussiness, or politics.
Just a group of very basic ideas.......2005-11-16
My wife and I own a couple of hair salons in Cincinnati with 24 awesome people who work with us. I was hoping to find some creative ideas so that we can better promote the folks in our salon who aren't as busy as they'd like to be.
I really felt like this book fell short of any of my expectations. This is a very thin and small, unsubstantial book that really didn't have much to it. Nothing more than 101 paragraphs, not chapters that described really basic ideas for marketing.
I also bought Fun, Creative & Profitable Salon Marketing by Aleen D'Angelo. 67 Chapters with at least 5 - 20 suggestions in each chapter toward understanding marketing.
Brandt Junker
PS: Sometimes I wonder if some of these reviews aren't written by friends of the authors, or the authors competition. I bought both books and don't know Allen D'Angelo or Nanette Miller!

First published in 1982, The Silver Palate Cookbook was an instant smash. It offered 350 stylish but easy recipes that reflected and helped cement America's burgeoning interest in quality cooking. It acquainted cooks with "gourmet" ingredients, just beginning to appear in our markets. And it helped many a host to shine.
The collection, whose recipes range from hors d'oeuvres to sweets, now arrives in a 25th-anniversary edition, which reproduces the original text and adds color photos throughout, often dropped into the text pages. All the old favorites, including Marinated Eggplant Livia, Chicken Marbella, Blanquette de Vaeu, and Blackberry Mousse are present, along with information about ingredients, menus, quotes, and other asides--all the things that help make the book such a pleasure. It's hard to imagine a cook--and especially one who entertains--not owning Silver Palate. This printing, which includes a retrospective foreword, offers more satisfaction still while reiterating the reasons for the book's enduring appeal. --Arthur Boehm
Amazon.com Exclusive: A Brief History of The Silver Palate Cookbook by Sheila Lukins
Twenty five years ago seems like the distant past but we still make ratatouille the same way and who would have ever dreamed that so many people would say to us, "I had Chicken Marbella at a dinner party last week and I just loved it." It took slight madness to open our little store in 1977. Florence Fabricant was writing an article on the renaissance of Columbus Avenue, where our shop was opening, we needed a name, she was on a deadline and called and said, "What are you calling your store?" We didn't know. "Why don't you call it The Silver Palate," she said. We loved it. It took sheer bravery in 1982 to write our book--who would need to buy food in our store any longer once they had all of our recipes? But that never happened for one hour. In fact, it helped us go national even further. Here we are, 25 years later, celebrating with a brand new edition of our book that finally highlights our recipes with vibrant color photographs. I once picked up the phone and someone on the other end said, "Sheila, I just baked the Decadent Chocolate Cake and my cake doesn't look like the drawing." I didn't know how to reply. I assured them the taste made up for the looks. It's bittersweet, but those problems are solved forever. While different, the color adds an exciting new dimension to the cookbook that has been a treasure to so many cooks for two and a half decades. Julee and I had a fantasy food partnership and the publication of this book has given us the opportunity to spend some wonderful time together.

A Springtime Menu for Amazon.com
When the weather warms us up, there is no more welcome beginning to a meal that a light swirl of noodles tangled up with crisp spring vegetables. Follow this amusing starter with a succulent roast leg of lamb, the meat we all long for in the spring. Serve our Swiss Gratin Potatoes and some haricots verts alongside. A delightful finale to this springtime luncheon is a moist carrot cake with cream cheese frosting or a delicate strawberry mousse. --Sheila Lukins and Julee Rosso Miller

absolutely brilliant.......2007-09-28
the anniversary eddition is wonderful and the photos are stellar!
Thank you Silver Palate
Wonderful edition!.......2007-09-21
I love the color photos in this silver anniversary edition and all of my favorite recipes are here! Definitely recommend it.
Excellent Cookbook.......2007-09-18
Excellent cookbook. Highly recommend, few of the recipes are a little complex and do require prev cooking knowledge.
Just what I was hoping for.......2007-08-23
I recently heard an interview with the two authors of this book on the Diane Ream show on National Public Radio. I could not resist purchasing the book after hearing about its history, not to mention hearing all of the phone in callers! So many people called in to share stories of their life and experiences with this book.
I have never seen the original, but this 25th anniversary edition has lovely photographs and the recipes are as fabulous as those described on the radio that inspired me to purchase it in the first place.
Though some of the recipes are a tad complicated, I still think it is the PERFECT cookbook for a newly moved out daughter or a newlywed. It is one that will be sure to be with you a lifetime.
Some great recipes.......2007-08-14
This cookbook really has some great ideas in it. It's a little bit labor intensive, but I have found that the results are worth it. The Chicken Mirabella recipe is fantastic! I highly recommened it if you want to impress your dinner guests.

Book Description
From the experts at Hot Rod magazine comes this guide to engine swapping. Covers all critical areas to completing a professional quality swap - how to choose an engine, what to look for, engine bay modifications, engine mounts, drive-line considerations and more.
Customer Reviews:
A detailed look at engine swapping........2006-04-03
Even though this book is several years old now its still a good book that covers all the important factors to consider when planning any engine swap. There is plenty of information covering each topic. This will give you an idea why engine swapping can be expensive.Plenty of photos throughout. An old book but a good book.Good value. If you are thinking of modifying any car and considering an engine swap read this book first.
An Old Book In New Cover.......2004-05-09
This is a barely updated book published as a Peterson's title in the late 70s, and while the basics (as applied to RWD cars with front engines) haven't changed, the laws have and so have the reasons for swapping in most cases. The most popular subjects for engine swaps today are four wheel drive vehicles, particularly outside the USA where no off-road vehicle is taken seriously without a diesel engine.
A new edition of this book could be very good, especially if written with non-US readers as well as Americans in mind.
Rover Engine Swapping in the UK.......1999-12-17
Putting a Rover V8 into anything? Want an ideal starting book? This is the one! Little american bias but very very useful for V8 transplants.
Book Description
This book includes over 650 tips and more than 30 special techniques to make you a better woodworker. An important reference, Shop Tips will become the most used tool in the shop.
Book Description
Happy Shopping. NEW YORKS 100 BEST LITTLE PLACES TO SHOP is full of stores as quirky and diverse as New York itself. Its the guidebook for visitors and residents, out-of-town friends, and everyone who wants to know where to find the citys one-of-a-kind stores: stores that reflect a unique point of view, an intimate approach to retailing, and are only in New York, not in every mall in America. Lucky for Eve Claxton, she arrived from London and began to write about stores for Time Out New York. She got to know the city store by store. Stores are her landmarks and touchstones and here she shares her highly selective guide to 100 of the most individualistic in New York. (Hard pressed to limit the entries to 100, each one is followed by a while youre there... section so you dont miss any of the other interesting places in the area.)
These selections cover 50 categories and range from bags, books, and bulbs to wedding gowns, wigs, and witchcraft tools. They include everything from million collar couture, Jackie Os favorite scent, vintage American quilts, chic dog costumes, custom-made cowboy boots, Japanese fountain pens, collectible jazz records, affordable cashmere to chocolate cell phones, the revolutionary magic duster, and even a 200,000 year-old dinosaur bone.
From Nolita, Chinatown and SoHo through Midtown to the Upper East and West Side, this shoppers bible is organized by neighborhood with a subject index to make shopping pleasurable, practical, and easy for both tourists and New Yorkers.
Customer Reviews:
Great shopping guide for NYC.......2007-03-08
This book lists some of the greatest spots to shop in NYC. It conveniently breaks shopping down by location. It's even small enough to throw in your bag and go.
A great little guide, but this edition needs an update.......2005-01-11
I've had this guide for four or five years now, and still faithfully drag it on every trip to New York City, just in case I find myself in a strange neighborhood and want to check out some new shops. It's best for helping you scope out a few shopping gems in unfamilar neighborhoods of Manhattan (if you know the neighborhood well, you'll probably already be aware of the stores profiled in each section). This second edition is, however, starting to show its age. Some of the shops profiled have moved or closed. Perhaps more importantly, lots of new interesting places to shop aren't profiled. Hopefully, they will update this soon, but there are quite a few good NYC shopping guides out now, and I would start there.
Don't bother if you've already bought a Fodor's NYC guide.......2001-12-13
I purchased this book at the same time with Fodor's 2002 Guide to NYC. Fodor's had most, if not all, the stores listed with accompanying maps plus Fodor's did a better job with identifying the out-of-the-way bargain shops. Save your money and just buy one or the other.
Great guidebook!.......2001-06-01
I wish I would of had this book the first time I went to New York City! Not only will this book save you a lot of time from walking, but it also can help you plan where you need to spend your time. The stores are grouped by area, and this book will also tell you what else is nerby. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone visiting the city!
Absolutely Fabulous.......2000-09-29
This book saves a ton of time and footache by narrowing down the shops to visit. I personally love all of City & Company's New York Guide books. Each personalized little volume contains more useful information for savvy travellers than Frommer's or Fodor's. They tell you only the best places to see and the best things to do, without wading through all the general tourist nonsense. The thing I loved most about this book is that it grouped shops by area and gave useful information such as what else is nearby. The store descriptions were very informative. I highly recommend this book, along with FYI Fashion Source, for anyone interested in shopping NYC to its fullest!
