Customer Reviews:
Good book.......2007-09-23
It's a good book on project management. I wish it was more in line with the standards from PMI. Also covers some advanced topics such as portfolio management but not in much detail.
Good Book for a beginner.......2007-01-19
If you are a practicing project manager, you may not find this book very useful. If you are new to Project Management (or planning to move to Project Management), then this book can help a lot. This book in my opinion is a text book (and a very good one). Book covers critical aspects of Project Management and explains planning and scheduling in an easy-to-understand fashion. I found the examples for backward pass, forward pass, constructing network diagram etc very useful. Author has used real-world examples so reader can co-relate to similar scenarios from their professional life.
Buy this book if you want your team's project to succeed.......2006-10-01
Don't buy this book if you're memorizing answers for some PMP exam.
But if you've got a real software project you need to deliver, and you've got a team looking to you for answers ... this is your book!
It's clear, it's practical, and it's packed with excellent ideas for managing just about any project, of any size.
It's great - buy it!
it is not good.......2006-08-11
The title is very attractive. however the content is more common. maybe it is good for beginner. most of content is focus on Traditional. nothing or very little useful information on Adaptive and etreme. if you want to learn how to deal with the adaptive and extreme project. just buy another one
Good material but not enough coverage.......2006-06-08
This book covers the fundamentals of project management but lacks details. It also lacks simplicity and consistency. The Critical path example discussed on p. 132 to 134 is confounding (especially the part explaining the difference between free and total slack). Better and more lucid examples demonstrating the various topics covered in this book would have made this book a 'standard' must-have.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent pattern book.......2006-10-19
I have this book and have referred to it many times and have used several of the patterns. There is a nice variety and the patterns cover a broad collection of interests and tastes. Excellent book and a must have in the stained glass studio.
It is Ok but..........2005-07-19
The designs are wonderful;however, they are all in black and white.. I expected more...
great designs abound.......2003-09-14
Not only were there great traditional designs, but I also found some beautiful and unique nature designs which I hadn't seen in other stained glass books and I was definitely pleased. The contemporary designs range from fairly simple to complex, but do not contain patterns that are unrecognizable as some stained glass patterns books do. This book definitely has variety, variety, variety.
A regular source of inspiration for me.......2000-11-22
I have used a good number of the designs presented in this book for my own creations. Lots of contemporary floral designs and some traditional victorian patterns. Projects range from relatively simple to very complex - designs that fit very well in homes as in commercial establishments. I have adapted one design in this book to be placed in a piece of furniture that I created. All is in black and white, no pictures of completed projects.

Customer Reviews:
Buy this magazine!.......2007-09-17
Pros:
* More interesting projects and "non-project" aritcles than Ready Made.
* I disagree with the reviewers who want more step-by-step how-tos... The editors trade inspiration for instruction a few times, to me this shows that they are assuming I am a creative, crafty type
* Healthy mix of "things I would like to try" and "who has all these materials laying around?"
* Lots of online resources, links, and advertisers--I like me some web surfing
* Great companion to Make, and I really appreciate that it doesn't scream "girl version"
Cons:
* Someone else already mentioned this, but it is a HUGE miss that the Jess H. robots on the cover aren't in the mag. I mean, come ON.
* Small format is good for carrying around, but this isn't really the type of mag that needs carrying around. Give me a bigger format and more diagrams
* Should come out more often!
Hurray for CRAFT!.......2007-02-03
The first issue of CRAFT is scrumtralescent! I can't wait for more! The ideas are fun and inspiring and make me want to get my craft ON. (Plus, I love the small, take-it-on-the-bus size.) Hurray for this great addition to the world of craftiness!
A must-read for any artist or crafter!.......2007-02-02
I was blown away by this innovative and captivating design and craft magazine. I am an all-around designer, artist and crafter always looking for my next obession. There were awesome ideas in here for any level of skill and really unique and cutting-edge things as well. I am hooked!
Craftastic!.......2006-11-20
This is a magazine for craft aficionados. The smaller size is perfect for crafters on the go and the paper stock and printing show that the creators care about details. The layout is clean and contemporary and the articles are short and sweet. The projects are innovative with simple instructions that even a beginner could follow. Even the ads are worth looking at in this fantastic addition to crafting culture.
Agreed with previous poster!.......2006-11-15
I agree with the poster below, what a rip off! I have been searching all over for the Jess Hutch booklet, and when the cover of this magazine showed the knitted robots and also the banner "Stitch a Robot," I figured I would pick the magazine up just for that... let me tell you when I turned to the page and it was a totally different robot that was CROCHETED, which I can not do... I was very dissappointed.
Total waste.
Book Description
The only book devoted completely to slicing today's ropes, this fully illustrated, step-by-step guide has been expanded and enhanced in this new edition and now covers wire splices, and splices in Spectra and Kevlar ropes as well as Dacron braid and traditional three-strand. The Splicing Handbook includes every splice project a boater will ever need.
Customer Reviews:
Review of "The Splicing Handbook" 2nd Ed by B. Merry.......2006-02-28
I bought the book because I wanted to splice high-tech yacht rope, especially the 12-strand braids like Amsteel. This review pertains only to splices related to such rope.
The photos are not always of the splice being described (p.84). The illustrations appear to have been cropped to fit the page, which is especially confusing for complex splices (p.88). The hollow braid splice on p.83 results in a weak splice with a bump at a vulnerable location - I believe this is a dangerous splice and that the authors have failed to grasp the workings of the Chinese Finger Puzzle principle mentioned in several places.
Conclusion: don't waste your money. Go to the web sites for Yale, Sampson, and New England Rope to get better illustrations and text for free. Also, study the test results from Layline.com on the importance of tapering the buried eye splice tail.
A good book.......2004-01-09
This is a good and inexpensive book. You'll find a lot of information about splicing, perhaps more than you will ever need.
The problem with a book is that you have to understand how the strands -- and which strands -- lie up next to each other. It's not that easy to figure out the first time around. I learned how by watching my Dad. That gave me an idea how splices are made.
Consider Amazon's software on splicing; ISBN 0970971419 if you just want to learn common splices. It's a software program for beginners to do the basic splices in front of a computer. It's more expensive, though.
The Best Damn Book in the World(about ropes anyway).......2002-07-18
Barbra Merry is a good friend of mine. Shes the one who got me started on ropes and knots and splicing etc... Anyway I have had a chance to skim through her book and read parts and excerpts from her book and it is really good. I've only known Barbra a few months but shes a really nice lady and if you ever have the chance to meet her make sure you make friends because shes the nicest lady you'll ever meet in your life. And if you ever have the chance to tie knots or learn how to splice or learn new knots I urge you to learn it because it is a great hobby and loads of fun. Thats my review about her book but its probably a review about the author.
Chris Anderson
Perfect reference book for professional splicers!.......2002-06-17
The Splicing Handbook is simply one of the best reference works for the working rope splicer and professional rigger. Barbara Merry has provided an excellent book to review rusty skills, to learn a new splice, and as a convenient compendium of splice history to settle any shipyard, boatyard, or construction site argument on how to splice a specific configuration of rope. Ms. Merry is held in high esteem for producing a book on the most difficult technique of rope work - making a proper end termination! Good for her!!
How to splice all sorts of line........1998-02-06
Brief, clear descriptions of how to splice all kinds of traditional and modern line -- braided, plaited, the works. If you're interested in splicing, this is an inexpensive way to cover a lot of ground. Good illustrations.
Book Description
“This book’s most outstanding feature is the section of colorful patterns for making one’s own hooked rugs....A gallery of exemplary hooked rugs by artists offers inspiration....Recommended.” —Library Journal. “Rug hookers of any level of experience will no doubt find something here that will inform and challenge them.”—McCall’s Needlework.
Customer Reviews:
Good starter book for beginners..........2004-02-12
I used to do very small counted-cross stitch for a hobby. First, my return to college interrupted it, then my eyesight got to be a hindrance to this 'artistic' endeavor. The final straw came when I developed peripheral neuropathy that makes it very hard to handle the small needles. So I went looking for something I could do that would take me away from my sometimes depressing bioethics/disability work, and my always depressing attempt to finish my Ph.D. in science education. My sister and I both reached a consensus that rug hooking would be the answer, as it is a rather large format of crafting.
This book provides a lot of information on how to start, where to get the implements, what to use, etc. Even though I enjoyed looking at what others have done, the rugs shown were a bit too abstract and simplistic for my taste. I'd rather hook something along the line of fine art when I get along far enough. The photos are great, and this is an easily accessible book for beginners.
Karen Sadler
An inspiring book.......2000-09-10
I found this book very exciting and has me ready to get into hooking rugs. It really covers it all from materials, dying fabric, choosing fabric, where to buy supplies, great designs for both traditional and modern, and good information on finishing projects. It gives lots of ideas for other, non-traditional materials that can be added to give your rug texture and that personal touch. If you are looking for a fantastic book on this subject look no further this covers it all. I just can't say enough. If you want to learn about rug hooking and you only buy one book.....this should be the one....it has it all!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good Solid Info, Nothing New.......1999-08-14
This book contains a lot of solid basic information, but doesn't really cover any new ground. It's still worth reading!
Good beginner's book with lots of detailed patterns.......1997-11-08
This book gives an overview of how to hook, the use of color and dyeing, and offers patterns in several styles, from primitive to traditional. It's
a great book for a rug hooker's collection. My first and second rugs are from this book! The only drawback is that the formulas for dyeing are a little brief.

Old and new coming nicely together.......2000-07-05
These projects are well graded for the beginner and the more advanced worker. The text and photographs are of a high quality, clear and not over wordy. Patterns are well crafted and will make good copies. Nice combination of traditional ways of working with more progressive ideas Easily understood for this beginner. I highly recommend this book to those looking for a bit of inspiration!

Another Darn Good Ribbon Book.......2000-04-07
Well here I go again, running off at the mouth over another beautiful ribbon book, but boy, it's another winner.
First off, when I locked my eyes on the cover of this book online, I had to immediately enlarge it - thanks for that privilege Amazon! After staring at the beautiful antique piece on the cover, I found my fingers typing in all the necessary spaces to buy this book.
Well I wasn't dissappointed (although I could have pondered over an additional 150 projects myself!) Yes, it's a bit different from others that show excusively new projects, but there are items in here that I still cannot tell if they are antique pieces or new projects in vintage fabrics/ribbons. Whatever....the instructions are colorized pictures of the stitches involved - quite clear to me, along with list of supplies needed. About the only thing missing is a supplier's list, possibly because this book originated in England - but hey we can by now access most of our supplies fairly easily today. So let's storm the flea markets, etc. for the vintage fabrics, go online for the rest of our supplies and watch the silk flowers bloom!
