Book Description
Weaving tiny glass seed beads into jewelry is an ancient form of jewelry making dating back to early Native Americans and prehistoric African tribes. Today, "seed beading," also known as "bead weaving" is extremely popular. By combining traditional seed bead techniques with a variety of other jewelry methods, jewelry makers can dramatically expand the type of seed bead jewelry they make. From learning established seed bead stitches to mastering a few simple wire and stringing steps, this book shows beginners through advanced bead weavers how to make seed bead jewelry with a designer flair.
Beginners will find enough detailed instructions to help them get started with the craft while more advanced jewelry makers will find it helpful because it will provide new ideas for using stitches in different ways, allowing them to incorporate stone and crystal beads instead of using seed beads alone for their jewelry designs.
The author takes the reader on a tour of bead weaving including providing information about the different kinds of seed beads including sizes and types, plus descriptions of the various supplies needed. She doesn't limit her discussion to only two types of stitches, but provides instructions for ten different stitches before delving into the how-to's for ten different breathtaking jewelry projects, including diamond coral and gaspeite earrings, a lacey emerald anklet, radiant zircon earrings, and much more.

Seed Bead, Stone & Crystal Jewelry.......2007-01-17
All of Tammy Powley's books are filled with helpful information and instructions. This book is no exception. Beside the many interesting and unique designs, she offers invaluable information on seed beads and related techniques. The instructions and their illustrations are very clear and easy to follow.
Serene Introduction to a Wonderful Style of Making Jewelry.......2006-08-19
I loved this book! I make jewelry, but I don't make seed bead pieces. Therefore, I was curious to explore a book which carefully and mindfully explained how to weave with seed beads, from start to finish.
Tammy Powley has provided me with a great beginning and I feel certain that I will not get confused or lose my way when I try the projects in the book. In addition, the incorporation of stones and crystals is a wonderful incentive to me to try the projects! I like the concept she has written about concerning the peaceful feeling you get when seed beading weaving. I could use some of that!
The book is beautifully photgraphed. It offers a great introductory set of chapters, for neophytes like me, and also a great gallery of beautiful projects at the end. I recognize and enjoyed seeing many names in the gallery of some of my favorite jewlery designers.
I know I will refer to this book frequently as I make my way through the early stages (and the later ones as well) of seed beading.

This has very easy instructions to follow with lots of pictures and diagrams to help even the beginner to make beautiful jewellery.
One of my favorites...waiting for a second book!.......2006-03-15
I bought this book in its french edition on a trip to Paris last year. I don't speak a word of french, however, I could understand it completely (imagine it in english)! Really clear and easy to follow graphics, beautiful photos, amazing projects (most of them are complete jewelry sets) for earrings, rings, necklaces, brooches and and even an ornamental comb.
This book has everything a beader can ask for and I definitely recommend it.

Beautiful Crystals.......2007-08-23
The book is well put together with wonderful pictured examples of the pieces. There is alot of wire work which I am not particularly interested in as I am a bead weaver.
Great catch all book if you love your sparklies!.......2007-06-18
The first 20 pages contain the usual newbie information on weaves, making loops, terminology, etc. As an experienced beader, I tend to skip those pages but wanted you to know this book still has great information if you love crystal and think this might be your first book to get started learning.
I can see myself wanting to make and actually wear 21 of the 36 projects on the remaining pages in this book. That's a FANTASTIC and unusual ratio in my opinion!! You know how it goes, usually you buy a book of 101 ideas and only actually like 10... and 5 of those you plan to make for someone else. ;-)
The other reason I consider this book a rare buy is all the different techniques. I was expecting mostly thread weaving/netting or plain bead stringing. I'm overjoyed to report some really cool wireworking & wrapping in here! There's also cab wrapping in seed beads (capturing a swarovski crystal rivoli, but you can do cabochons too with what you learn here), a fiber/ribbon necklace, crystal beads made of crystal beads, even a jig pattern for some awesome chandelier earring components.
You're getting a bunch of beautiful sparkly designs that cover a broad range of techniques. An excellent catch all book!
I have 2 complaints/comments for later editions, the picture on the "Superstar" necklace, pg 38, and the squared cube necklace, pg 68. The stars are done with black pendant bicones which I thought made it hard to see what the end result would really look like. Those stars are alternated with 5 beaded stranda kinda going around a cube? Sounds wonky to try to get 5 strands to rest nicely around a 4 sided cube, and the picture doesn't give you a view of 5. But the directions are clear enough to modify the design on your own, I still like it so I guess I'll figure it out when I try to make it!
As for the squared cube necklace, I'd suggest redoing that picture/design with an odd number of columns so it can come to a point on the bottom. The even number/off kilter rows have the abstract free form look of a kid's drawing... or maybe that's the point?

Beautiful, easy-to-make projects!.......2007-08-16
I just finished making the necklace, earrings, and ring for the "Romance" project of this book, and had to sit down and write a review to say how fantastic this book is. Every project in this book is just lovely, and the authors do a wonderful job of providing clear directions that are very easy to follow!
One of the strengths of this book is that it provides coordinated pieces of jewelry, if you like to wear matching sets, as I do. Each design/color combination is given a name and has several coordinating jewelry pieces that you can make for that design (earrings, necklace, etc.).
Although I've been beading for three-and-a-half years, I have to admit that I was a little nervous when the book first arrived since several of the projects called for using two needles, which I'd never done before. Using two needles was very easy, though, since the authors provide not only diagrams, but also a clear list of instructions. In the past, I've been frustrated by Japanese books that only use diagrams since they can be hard to follow, but this book has excellent diagrams that are fully complemented by the detailed written instructions.
Another strength of this book is that the authors give a very specific list of materials at the start of each project. They list the exact color of Swarovski crystals used, which makes it very simple to order the exact crystals you need to make an identical piece. Of course, you can always use different colors than those used in the book, but I always enjoy having a good starting point with color selection. The authors also use Japanese clear thread, but using waxed Fireline seemed to work just fine.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this book, and I highly recommend it! I'm already looking forward to making my next set of pieces with it!
Beautiful, quick and easy jewelry.......2007-05-16
This book features many projects using Swarovski crystals. The projects are easy to accomplish and quick to make, involving weaving the crystals and other beads together. The final results are gorgeous, and you will be proud to wear them or give them as gifts. Both teens and adults of all ages will enjoy wearing the jewelry made from this book. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. I highly recommend it.
Beautiful Projects.......2007-03-30
My friend just got this book and now I'm buying it too. The projects are beautiful, there are instructions for sets of jewelry, and the instructions are clear and not too hard.
Better than their first book.......2007-02-07
This is a good example of the French way of beading using crystals and nylon thread. I plan on using c-lon or fireline with a beading needle. Before the projects are a few pages explaining the materials and method.Everything is clearly explained step by step with good illustrations and color photos. The projects are in sets; e.g. ring, bracelet, earrings, necklace, etc. There are 13 sets. Instructions call for two needles when beading with needles. My favorites are Ocean lace, romance and southern stars which is a 6 point star. Color choices are lovely. Both this book and her earlier one highly recommended. Very reasonable book well produced.

Crystal coffee table book.......2007-08-29
I love the beauty of the pictures of the crystals out in natural locations. They are breath taking. The energy discriptions are short and to the point with the usual hardness and vibrational information. I greatly appreciate information regarding the misrepresentation of some stones as other more expesive or rare stone too. This book just plane feels good. There is a definate Christian spin to some of the energy discriptions.
very heartfelt..........2006-11-13
but otherwise a little lacking.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book; it really comes from the heart and has themes that differ from other book that encompass this topic. The entire book contains very encouraging, spiritual messages, and many are of a very Christianized nature, which gives it distinction from the traditional books. Nothing is inherently exclusive, so the messages presented are very open to all people of all traditions.
The weaknesses that prevent this stone from getting a five star rating really lie in the incompleteness of the work. Many very unusual stones are discussed, and all but very few have pictures to accompany them, though most of the unusual stones have very little information regarding their uses. The book does a beautiful job of including so many different gemstones, but their origins and mineralogy are totally left out of this work. Locations from which they come and the chemical formulae are found with each page, but there is insufficient data concerning any other of the scientific aspects of these stones. Some things, like relative refractive indices or easily identifiable physical properties would make identification of cut gemstones so much easier.
This book is not unlike a textbook; it is a sturdy volume meant to be treasured like its subjects. I am sure you will enjoy this one!
Great Book!.......2004-09-07
This book is awesome! It tells all about crystals and what they do. It shows a great picture, composition, hardness, color, and the source! I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves gemstones and would like to learn about the effects that they have on people!
Excellent Book!.......2000-03-20
This book contained vast amounts of information on every gem topic there is. It helped me tremendously in learning about gems. It also saved me a lot of money when I went out and purchased a ruby bracelet for my mother and diamond ring for my wife. I probably saved at least a thousand dollars just from using the knowledge obtained from this book. It is a great book and I recommend everyone buying it. It is a great investment!

A great jewelry book!.......2007-02-06
I borrowed this book from the library and I already like it. There's a ton of different styles,so that you'll never get bored. For the most part the jewelry looks pretty easy to make. There are some harder things too though. The instrucions are easy to follow with black and white pictures to show you how different techniques are done. There's a section in the back that tells you the basic beading tools and beads you need to have, what the tools are used for, techniques, and other helpful stuff. The jewelry is really cute and not old fashioned or anything. A lot of the stuff looks like something you'd buy at a store. I'd give this book 6 stars if I could! If you want to make jewelry I'd diffently buy this book!
Introduce girls to the world of beads.......2003-12-18
This is a book of real beading techniques, using authentic beading supplies to introduce the world of beads and jewelry-making to young teens. There are lots of projects to choose from, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, headbands, ponytail holder, hair clips, etc. Most of the projects use seed beads, but many other beads can be used, too. Techniques show beading on jewelry wire, memory wire, and thread, and the use of standard supplies and tools such as crimp beads, clasps, pliers, and wire cutters.
There is only one true-life photo that shows the finished jewelry, and it's on the cover in color. However, in the photo, the teen model is wearing a ton of jewelry, and the details and styles cannot be seen. The same photo is shown enlarged on the first page of the book in black and white, but still does not give a clear idea of the finished products. The book would be so much more motivating if the projects were shown in color photographs. The black and white illustrated instructions are pretty good, simple and easy enough to follow, but the drawings result in a cartoon-like look, as if this is not an art, but "crafts for kids".
For girls (or boys) who are really interested in learning the art of jewelry beading, the book is really a great start. The book itself is not "pretty" or motivating, so the young beader will need to be able to envision the end product and follow the instructions and diagrams carefully.

Exquisitely Stylish and Innovative Book for All Lovers of Crystal.......2007-09-18
I love collecting jewelry design books. I pore over the ones I find to be good. I have the previous book, titled: Create Jewelry, Pearls, co-authored by the team of Marlene Blessing and Jamie Hogsett. I love it! Therefore it is not a surprise to me that, once again, they have created an incredibly stylish, fabulously photographed, fascinating to read(there are those great "did you know..." sidebars and facts, once again--I love those!) book filled with lovely, stunning, jaw-dropping projects.
I first started my designing career using Swarovski crystals in many of my projects because they are so beautiful to me, and there is no stinting on using them in this book. They are practically synonymous with the word crystal, although is it fascinating to read about the history of other, natural crystals, and special crystals such as Herkimer diamonds. I admit I love unusual stones and I find that project using Herkimer diamonds is particularly well designed, chic, and beautiful to look at!
There are fabulous historical facts, such as the carved cabochons of Essex ...we've all seen them, we just didn't know what they were! I am referring to those little dogs or horses painted behind bubbles of crystal, used for cufflinks or buttons. I loved reading about them!
I am so fascinated by many of the stories in the book, and I love how the authors, once again, managed to match the colors of the projects to the historical lore. The photos are intense, sensual, and beautiful! The models are gorgeous and the jewelry designs are totally exquisite.
This is top notch designing. I love so many of the projects! "Cosmic Jewels", a bracelet using Swarovski's new "cosmic" shaped crystals, is so fantastic! Jamie is a true artist! I adore "Brilliant Bangles" as well, and the history Marlene adds to that project is particularly intriquing.
There are super pretty linear earrings called "Catch a Falling Star", and a fantastic bracelet I personally wish to start off with...it is my favorite! Right at the beginning, it is the incandescent and fabulously sumptuous "Royal Tapestry." Of course, in looks, it resembles a rug (an oriental rug!). It is a cuff made of seed beads and crystals, and it is a knockout of a design! I want to make it first!
I think this book is spectacular! It's got pins, rings, lariats, and...well, beauty everywhere! It goes from the past, historically, to "fashion forward" styles, and is extremely fun to read and exciting to experience. There is a lot of seedbeading, but I am beginning to try my hand at that! I am a wire worker normally, but this book is so encouraging and beautiful that I am am falling for the seedbeadng projects hard! Jamie rules at that! And Marlene is so fascinating at narrating the facts she discovered while researching this book.
I give this book five stars plus! It is stunning and exciting to read and you will want to make the beautiful projects immediately! A great book!
For Crystal Lovers.......2007-08-19
Do your eyes sparkle at the mention of Swarovski? Then this book is for you. By Beadwork Mag Editors and the Interweave Press, which I think brings us the most impressive needlework books. Gorgeous, mouth-watering pictures, crystal shapes and color charts, diagramed techniques. Project Resource Guide in back tells us where they got the components so you can make exactly what you see. Projects are put into 3 categories, "Classic", "Special Occasion" and Fashion Forward". All projects are tasteful, brilliant color choices and well made. No skimping on quality. Us beaders know the difference - this is not a "craft" book. Info on Swarovski and some history of crystals makes a nice touch throughout the book. 20 projects, including a brooch and a ring. This is elegant beading with classic touches; no wire work, dichroic or art beads. And yes, there are some in here to die for!
