Good Designs but no color guides for clarity.......2006-06-27
The designs are very good. The problem I see with this book is there no finished designs or color guides. If you are new to stained glass it could be difficult to visualize a finished design. But all in all a good design book.
Interesting designs but the title is misleading.......2003-09-15
I found some very interesting nature patterns in this book, but almost a fifth of the book contained designs (at least 12) which I found unrecognizable as anything belonging to nature or anything else. If you are into these abstract designs, then this is an added bonus. I was disappointed and would rather have had traditional nature designs as pictured on the cover.

Stain.......2007-08-02
stain glass is my favorite and I look at this book long ago when I am little. This book is really good for stain glass projects.
All designs need to be enlarged.......2001-04-16
The only reason I gave this book a 4 is all designs need to be enlarged, and there are no pictures of the finished designs.
Below is a portion of the publisher's note within the book, that will give you some good information.
"Bevels and glass jewels add sparkling points of interest to any stained glass project. This book includes 83 floral, geometric, bird, butterfly, fish, Art Nouveau and Victorian style patterns that have been specially designed to highlight the faceted and shaped glass pieces that appear within them. The patterns appear in square, rectangular, circular, octagonal and free-form shapes and can be used for lightcatchers, door and window panels, box tops and glass projects. Bevels and jewels are no more difficult to incorporate into a pattern than regular stained glass sections."
Later in this same section they go on further about the contents of the book.
"The illustrations on pages 4-7 show the true size (and in some cases two views) of all the bevels and jewels that appear within the patterns on pages 8-64. The patterns, however, appear within the book at half their actual size and will need to be xeroxed at a 200% enlargement in order for the bevels and jewels to fit. The measurements that are printed next to each pattern give the dimensions to which it will be enlarged when doubled in size."
My impressions of the book, as I just received it are positive. There are some pretty nice designs inside from the tradition looking door insert types to some pretty intricate bird, fish and flower designs. None except for the cover are shown as a picture, all are sketches and drawings. Inside both covers are drawings with suggested colors of 11 of the designs within, but the rest only have the patterns in black and white. All patterns have other patterns on the back side.
Some details are:
8 butterfly designs (some with flowers)
3 birds
3 fish
7 flowers (distinctly flowers and not stylized geometric renditions)
The bulk of the book, is stylized flower or geometric designs. Really neat looking ones. This is not surprising as the bevels and jewels are limited to specific geometric shapes.
All in all a decent book.

Using this book is a breeze........2001-05-05
Although this book has few color examples in it the patterns are all top notch. I like it. I will adapt some of the patterns, as I do all book patterns, into something more from my brain. This is a good idea resource book. The piece counts my make it more of intermediate use rather than for beginners.
Patterns Translate Well to Today's Application.......2000-04-19
This is one of my favorite source books for designs. I use them in computer application so the line size and clarity are important. Like all Mr. Sibbitt's books, the image quality is high. The designs also lend themselves well to a little adjustment in width or height adjustment. Many of the designs have similar components in them allowing one to use them for matching pieces for both transoms and sidelights.
Good Flower Patterns.......2000-03-25
There are a lot of clear patterns with around 50 pieces. Many Flowers and a few birds. I am looking for transom and fan light patterns that feature birds and found only one pattern in this book that I could use. However, the flower patterns have really caught my eye.

Quality Images.......2000-04-19
My application of Mr. Sibbett's designs begin with their being scanned. As with all his books the quality of the images in this book are very good. I appreciate the slight similiarity between some images that lend themselves well to making matching items. A variety of designs from simple to more complex are offered. At most their are two to a page making them easy to work with.

Customer Reviews:
there's much better available.......2001-08-15
This is an alright book for absolute beginners, but not up to the standard of the many other books available. I would recommend 390 Traditional Stained glass designs by Hywel Harris as a much better choice.
Large patterns for once!.......2000-11-22
This book has a relatively good coverage of Victorian era designs. The patterns are large, so photocopy and enlargment is easy and clear. Designs are also relatively simple (I would consider this book for the advanced beginner or intermediate). There are few very intricate patterns traditional of the richest stained glass panels, but you surely have a lot of very nice patterns for your home.
Author Provides Patterns for Today's Hobbiest.......2000-04-19
The first step to my using Mr. Sibbett's designs is to scan them. He provides clearly defined, good quality images that scan well at high resolution. The quality of images is not always apparent to the naked eye. The images are large enough to duplicate well without loosing detail. For my purposes the max of three images a page at most works well. Other books may have more patterns but they loose quality when made larger.
Book Description
Simple, elegant designs, easily adaptable as templates, most in elongated rectangles, with some half-circle fanlight designs as well as ovals and circles. The subjects range from trellised roses, soaring birds, and bouquets of tulips to geometric and abstract designs. Publisher's Note.

Beautiful designs.......2007-01-10
I love this book! They're all either floral and/or curvy designs. Just what I was looking for to do a sidelight in a doorway. I highly recommend it. It's in black and white so you have to use your imagination to color it. I just wish they put more designs in this book.
Excelent book and great designs!.......2006-07-06
This book has great patters for doors that could be used in other applications. The only problem I found is that it does not show any colors.
Good Variety.......2000-06-09
This volumn contains a good all-around variety of patterns and schemes. Most designs are three to a page (8.5 x 11). They require enlarging. The range of difficulty varies, most look intricate in the small size on the page but when enlarged to window size the number of peices per square foot is reasonable.
The patterns are (or can be) grouped into coordinated window sets, for example: a doorway with matching sidelights and a fanlight. Most of the patterns include flowers, but not all. Some the the themes include hummingbirds (very nice) blended with flowers, a dove, herons, sea gulls, callas, irises, daffodills, roses, tulips, morning glories, grapes with vines, dogwood (geomatical), parrots, landscapes (sailboat, sunsets with a bird and water), and geometrics (good for bevels).
I have used some of the flower details extracted from the overall patterns.

Good range of difficuly levels.......2006-08-04
I really like the patterns in this book. The designs range from simple patterns that could be used as suncatchers to more elaborate designs with over 100 cuts a lot of which are concave. Some patterns would look best with jewels and seemed to be designed for them.
Some of the patterns presented are just variations of one another. So, there aren't quite as many patterns as the product descrption might imply. However, there was a lot of variety packed into this book.
I feel like this book was a good value.
Nice Range of Complexity in Design.......2000-04-19
As with all Mr. Sibbett's books, the images translate well to computer application when scanned. Most designs are two to a page with three on some pages. There is a nice range of complexity in the designs from simple to very detailed. Some designs too are scaled to produce items where the image needs to be large, for instance when you would want the image of only one or two flowers on the side of a box.
