Product Description
Once again, those noted lesbianologists Stefano Mazzotti and Vincenzo Silvestroni have taken another hot and steamy journey into the jungle of girl-on-girl action, only to bring back more tantalizing images! Nice work if you can get it, and these boys certainly know their way around. See lovely ladies in the throes of passion, letting their lustful ways burst into torrid and forbidden love. The first volume of this series was a not-so-surprising hit for SQP, so this follow-up edition will surely arouse more than mere bi-curiosity!
Book Description
The doorman. The gatekeeper of the night. These silent observers see it all, yet say nothing. Until now. In Confessions From the Velvet Ropes Thomas Onorato lets you into this exciting world. From Adrien Brodys birthday party to backstage at Kimora Lee Simmons fashion show, Onorato has seen it all. Part Party Monster, part How to Make Love Like a Porn Star, this is a tell-all with style, including humorous side-bars and tips to make it past the ropes: Always go with Stella McCartney (or in Stella McCartney). If Stella isnt available, Alexander McQueen or Marc Jacobs are acceptable plus one (or ensemble) choices. Try this: Walk up to the doormanwho is almost always busyand apologize for interrupting him. Apologize again for your very existence. Follow his instructions closely. If the doorman says, If youre on the list, go stand in line #4 or If youre not on the list, please fill out these forms in triplicate, it would be in your best interest to comply. If youre going to resort to name-dropping, know the right names to drop. Do drop: The Name of the clubs owner or the club promoter. Dont drop: The name of the club janitors drug dealer, the bartenders girlfriends manicurist or Paris Hilton (EVERYONE thinks theyre friends with Paris).

Insightful and Funny!.......2006-08-15
The author of this book has a keen observational eye for the details of New York nightlife and its denizens. He takes what might first appear as a frivolous or superficial subject and manages to extract some real anthropological significance from it. But you can still read it at the beach.
Very Cool Book.......2006-08-14
I really enjoyed reading about all the amusing people in this book. It's sort of like a better written, funnier, more detailed version of the Warhol Diaries... except the Warhol Diaries is packed with boring old farts like Liza Minnelli and Bob Colacello, whereas this book has mental cases like Courtney Love and that tacky thing who does the Baby Phat clothes -- you know, the former model who thinks she's Tyra Banks but is really just Jocelyne Wildenstein in Beyonce drag. Anyhow, you know that when you've got Kimora and Courtney in the same book, you're gonna laugh (and if you've got them in the same room, bring backup... as you'll see in Confessions.)
A Well-Weaved Saga of New York's Underground Nightlife.......2006-08-08
If you want to know first hand the inner-workings of New York's most famous parties and the people who make them happen (along with the clubgoers that help make them famous) go read "Confessions from the Velvet Ropes" now. This raw telling weaves significant and interesting nightlife history, including interviews with the people who lived it, with tales of current scenes and connects them to give readers an untainted view of the underground world of NYC parties, fashion, social change and the fabulously outrageous characters that embody them. Along with colorful personal anecdotes and fun, sarcastic sidebars with topics like "Thomas's Top Ten Tips for Getting Past the Ropes," Glenn Belverio with the help of personal commentary from famed doorman, Thomas Onorato, makes this book a must-read for anyone interested in NYC history, social scenes and celebrity gossip. Whether you're from NYC, just moved there or follow the scene with a curious eye from afar - you will not be able to put down "Confessions from the Velvet Ropes" until you have devoured all the edgy and eccentric pages in their entirety. And you will be thirsty for more...
New York energy condensed to a book.......2006-07-30
I was pulled into this book from the very first page. Not only does it paint the real life experience with every word but it is written in such a lively manner that the sizzling times in NYC just pour through you. I especially loved the Heatherette piece. Could not stop laughing. Looking forward to Glenn's next book. Five Stars from Paris.
My favorite book this summer.......2006-07-24
I love to read NYC celebrity gossip columns mainly because I love to imagine all the excitement going on in the Big Apple. I've heard about nightclub line ups and doormen and the horror of rejection. This book not only made me feel like I was standing next to the doorman getting an insider's view, but by the end of the book, I felt like I really knew Thomas and that I really had been there. I can't think of another book that's been able to make me forget I was reading a book. I laughed out loud - this book made me laugh out loud. It made me see that anyone can feel like a star - the glamor is in the attitude not the pocketbook. Confessions of the Velvet Ropes is like a guidebook to cutting edge NYC nightlife complete with tips on how to pull off a look, to get into the club and how to have a wild time without getting hung up on being an outcast from NJ. It was a thoroughly fun book to read.
Book Description
A compendious anthology of women's writing on film.
As viewers, actresses, directors and writers, women were centrally involved in cinema throughout the first half of the twentieth centuryindeed film-going was the most important way in which women participated in the era's urban mass culture. However, the significance of women's early contributions has until now remained scant and dispersed, eclipsed in historical opinion formed through the texts of men.
In magisterial scale and including extracts from Woolf, HD, Flanner and others, Red Velvet Seat restores this film culture to visibility, using women's written accounts to understand the significance of cinema for them.
With birth control pioneer Marie Stopes, novelist Virginia Woolf, social reformer Jane Addams, Imagist poet H. D., New Yorker correspondent Janet Flanner, black actress Fredi Washington, labor organizer Mary Heaton Vorse, psychoanalyst Barbara Low, suffragist Lillie Devereux Blake, and lesbian activist Barbara Deming.

Oh, what IS it about two beautiful women locked in a forbidden embrace that just makes guys go a little crazy? Maybe it s that silly idea they'd invite us into their little lovefest. One can always dream, or look into the pages of this new art collection by the team of Mazzotti and Silvestroni. An erotic series of stories, each accompanied by a steamy full color painting, this first volume of lesbian friction is sure to raise more than eyebrows!
Customer Reviews:
Not that impressed with so few pages. .......2005-12-29
If I had no other books from SQP I think I would rate this a 2, or 3 so that's what I'll review it as. Usually with SQP books like this you get a collection of detailed pencil drawings of half clothed women, monsters, fem pirates and so on. This book is a bit different. There is a sketch (very rough) on the first page, and it's painted, and complete on the second. It's 48 pages total so if you buy these books to scope for pencil drawing reference your only getting half a book, and the pencils in this volume are at a very early stage at best. If you buy for the painting I've seen both better, and worse.
It seems like half of what is usually a short book to me. The sketches I could have done without, and probably would have given it a better review if it were 48 different pages that were all painted, or a collection of various artists doing detailed pencil drawings on the subject as many of the SQP books are. As it stands I think it's closer to a one than a three, but I'll leave it at three.
Mostly Art.......2005-11-30
This book is described as, "An erotic series of stories, each accompanied by a steamy full color painting, this first volume of lesbian friction is sure to raise more than eyebrows!" Well, only part of that description is true.
Each page spread has a color plate on the right. The left side has sketches related to the plate as well as the so-called story. There is only one real story in the bunch. Some of these are less than five lines long. Most of the ones I read had little to do with the actual art. If the idea of a sketchbook with stories is what has you interested in this then you will be disappointed. It really is just a sketchbook.
For sketchbook fans the art is clean wild. Some of the plates cross over into the hardcore zone which is not too common in the sketchbook (except those by Rebecca where it is the norm). A nice selection of artists take a swipe at trying to create an erotic work involving Sapphic love. There is certainly plenty of nudity and some hard action but whether you will find it erotic or merely titillating depends on your own taste.
Again, if you are looking for stories, avoid this one. If the pictures are what you want then this one is pretty good.
GIRLS ON GIRLS!.......2005-10-19
In the first in a new series of collections from SQ Productions, Velvet Love explores erotic girl on girl love. Stefano Mazzotti provides the outstanding art and Vincenzo Silvestroni provides the prose in this combination of sensuous art and evocative verse. Stefano Mazzotti was completely unknown to me before I saw this collection. I'm not sure how much of his work has been collected previously but he is one supremely talented artist. His women are drop dead gorgeous and if these pieces don't give you at least a tingle you must be on life support.
Full Color paintings alternate with pages of black & drawings. The text of Sivestroni accompanies the black & white drawings. The works are sumptuous, sometimes quite explicit, and always beautiful. One of the first pieces I love is found on page 5 showing a lovely redhead about to be shaved by another woman with a straight razor. This is a voyeur's dream! Pages 7 - 11 feature a series of paintings depicting girl on girl sex between cheerleaders.
Bondage fans will be big fans of Velvet Love as there are several fantastic pieces in this vein. One shows a woman, bound in chains providing oral pleasure to her leather booted, whip-wielding mistress. Another features a lovely blonde captive on her knees, tightly bound with leather straps and at the mercy of a nude, brunette wearing a fashionable leather corset. Then there is the painting of a leather masked dominatrix, riding her captive like a horse and spanking her backside with her riding crop.
In Velvel Love you'll find cowgirls and Indians resolving their differences in a most pleasurable way, wealth socialites enjoying the care of their French maids, and tattoo covered biker babes enjoying each other's bodies. For any man, or woman, who enjoys girl-on-girl sex, Velvet Love from SQP is required viewing. Another great collection!

Book Description
The Velvet Underground is arguably one of the most influential American rock bands ever. Based on interviews with former members Lou Reed, John Cale, and Sterling Morrison, as well as others from Andy Warhol's circle of artisitic collaborators, this book is the definitive oral and visual history of the band and its revolutionary, avant-garde music.
Customer Reviews:
Outstanding photos, inside dirt.......2007-10-10
This book has contributions from several of Warhol's factory insiders (Victor Bockris, Gerard Melanga) who were personally involved with the Velvet Underground's groundbreaking shows in NYC (in addition to their status as card-carrying members of Warhol's film-and-silkscreen juggernaut). Their recollections, letters, and photographs from their time with the band paint a vivid picture of a beautifully chaotic scene peopled by colorful, indulgent artists and hipsters in a shimmering New York. The city is a character in its own right; an actor of nearly perceptible intent.
The photos alone are worth the price of admission. They are beautiful and artful records in black and white of the band and the surrounding Factory maelstrom through the most vivid and productive period of their shared existence. Despite the insider access of the photographers, they do little to deflate the Velvet's dark mythology. Rather, they distill perfectly the self-created mythology of the band as they birthed it.
There are great stories here, too, that could only have been told by firsthand participants. They offer rich portraits of the band and supporting cast, with intimate details of the band throughout their existence. From Lou Reed's early influences, to Warhol's insertion of Nico as the band's icy continental seer of doom, to accounts of their wild psycho-sexual art-rock shows, to their uncomfortable role on the fringes of fame, to the deterioration of the relationship between Reed and Cale, this is an essential text for any serious fan of the Velvet Underground.
As perfect of a document as we are likely to have.......2006-09-21
Some 20 years after it's first publication, UP-TIGHT remains the definitive history of The Velvet Underground, and is also one of the essential glimpses into the social and creative world of Warhol's Factory.
Very well illustrated, with many black and white photos documenting the era, Bockris compiles and edits an oral history of the time, with valuable input from all of the key players.
Highly recommended for those with any interest in the Velvets, or Warhol, and an essential snapshot of America's 60s cultural landscape.
-David Alston
Invaluable sourcebook.......2004-07-26
UP-TIGHT is an invaluable sourcebook for VU fans and those simply curious about the band that inspired their mere 10,000 fans to start 10,000 bands of their own, as the cliche goes. I'm delighted to see that it is back in print.
Bockris wisely lets the participants speak for themselves, for the most part. Since virtually all (save Lou Reed) had retreated from public life (that is, gotten straight jobs) at the time the book was written, they provide a refreshing perspective as compared to what one usually sees in this type of book.
The standard of writing and research here is much higher that your typical 'rock book'. Not only does it give Velvet Underground the serious treatment they deserve, it is also a worthwhile resource for those interested in Andy Warhol.
Intelligent & entertaining approach.......1999-06-17
An intelligent and entertaining approach to one of the most influential (read: they didn't sell a lot of records in their heyday)rock bands ever. Great pix too. The Velvets epitomized a time when artists didn't feel narrowly compelled to practise any ONE discipline, but rather people were less afraid to combine ideas, cross genres and disciplines. The spirit of the time, to me, suggests Possibility. Yes, Warhol et al. could drift into pretention, but that's the price (and it's really not such a costly one) you pay for being daring. You may go too far sometimes, and by today's (stupid?) standards, perhaps some of the VU "happenings" might appear contrived. But I don't think so! Altogether, VU rules. Way ahead of their time, and before it too. And beside it.
Buy this book, but more importantly, buy into the Underground.

The perfect gift.......2007-07-28
This book is the perfect gift for the young (or older) artist in your life. I gave this to my 8 year old niece for her birthday and she loves it, but I could have happily kept it for myself. The pictures look almost professional when they are done thanks to the velvet. There is a variety of projects to do and they're such fun. An especially good bargain when you buy this from Amazon.com, since the book retails for $[...] at bookstores.
Awesome book.......2005-12-27
This book has the coolest pictures in it - appropriate for boys & girls. It also has more than just pictures - you can make a frame or ornaments etc. I bought it for a gift and my kids both wanted one.
Velvet Art......A Super, Terrific, Wonderful Gift!.......2003-12-11
My daughter just received this fantastic book for her birthday and we are already searching for more editions. I don't know what it is about velvet art, but kids love it! Forget the oversized ponies and unicorns from the grocery store, this book is so hip and is condensed down to normal book size. The velvet pieces are protected w/ cardboard and plastic and have all sizes, shapes and uses. We've got bookmarks, picture frames and all kinds of cool things to do with this book. My daughter just turned 8 and is quite the aspiring artist, although I have to say, her little 4 year old brother has had just as much fun. Highly recommend and at this price, buy it for all your kids friends and save them for the next birthday party your invited to!
Book Description
Status symbols, diplomatic gifts, artistic mediums, and economic treasures--figured silk fabrics were among the most powerful and most characteristic artistic products of the Ottoman Empire. Wars were fought for control of silk revenues, and governments devoted major bureaucratic efforts toward the organization, regulation, and taxation of silk production. Ipek: The Crescent & the Rose is the most comprehensive and magnificently illustrated overview of Ottoman silk textiles of the 16th and 17th centuries. Its lavish, full-bleed, six-color reproductions of fabrics from the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, and from lesser-known ecclesiastical treasuries in the Balkans, Sweden, Poland, and Russia, demonstrate the creativity of Ottoman weavers in rich detail, and will appeal to anyone with an interest in design or a general appreciation for visual delights. Accompanied by scholarly essays that shed light on the different historical, legislative, economic, and technological factors that determined the history of these textiles.
Customer Reviews:
Clothes as High Art.......2002-06-06
The silks and velvets featured in Ipek are amazing in their detail, brilliant color, and craftsmanship. I found it particularly interesting that Ottoman textile and Iznik tile designs were often identical - although not even Iznik tiles can compare with the textiles in Ipek.
One caveat: The essays are well researched and have interesting themes, but are as dry as July in Tucson.
A must for any textile lover.......2002-04-18
This is an outstanding book, an art object by itself and a serious scientific monography on Ottoman silk textiles of XVI to XVIII cent. CAUTION : no carpets, kilims or embroidery !Marvellous full-page color photos of about 150 silk specimens from the leading world collections plus many more b/w photos; all with descriptions. Very nice text, easy to read by non-professionals : history of Ottoman silk production, techniques, trade, history etc. etc. The only book matching the high standard of the " Ipek" seems to me " Seidengewebe des XVII jahrhunderts : Bizarre Seiden " by H.Ch. Ackermenn, Abegg_Stiftung, Bern, Switzerland.
The IPEK book is a jewel in my collection of textile books. I recommend it, the only flaw is that it does not show vestments or costumes in full, only close-ups.

Book Description
Asked to contribute to Artforum's "Top Ten" column, David Robbins used one of his entries for "Electricity: That we don't annually celebrate Electricity Day is unfathomable." That sense of whimsy, even amid an advanced critical sensibility, makes this collection of essays from the past quarter century a great read. A regular contributor to magazines such as Real Life (in the 1980s), Purple Prose (in the 1990s), and Artforum, Robbins is one of the first artists and critics to investigate the art world's entrance into the culture industry. His work reflects on the spectacle, the transformation of the position of the artist in the visual system, and the future role of the spectator in art. This publication also brings together his key interviews with Richard Prince, Allan McCollum, and Clegg & Gutman; his writings on television, Hollywood, and Warhol; and contributions to his "Institute for Advanced Comedic Behavior."
