Book of Interest.......2006-07-17
I purchased this book to read portions of it to my class. The reality of new ideas is that it takes hard work and lots of practice. Many of the ideas came from the result of what was viewed as a "mistake" by the inventor. The process of invention is as important as the product. This is an important concept to share with young students who will only try to get the "right" answer, they have to be taught to undetake challenges and see mistakes as the opportunity to learn. These types of stories inspire them to take chances.

Great Intro to Physics!.......2007-06-11
My nine year old son loves this book! It has some great projects to do (using easy-to-find materials) while also introducing famous scientists and scientific principles like the laws of motion. We were following the The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home, Revised and Updated Edition and found this book to be much better than the books it recommended for Physics.

What a great book to teach children about WWII while having fun at the same time! I highly recommend this book to parents (and teachers!)who want to involve their children in entertaining, stimulating activities that engage the mind as well as the hands. This interesting biography with excellent illustrations and primary source photographs provides facts and fun! An excellent index and table of contents provides easy navigation. The chapters are well-written, beginning with a interest-grabbing first chapter describing Edison's introduction of the electric lights to the public. Historical events and settings build a broad understanding of the lives and times of inventors and builders who paved the way for modern times.

This book allowed me relate stories of kid inventors to my classroom students. These stories were easy for them to relate to and showed them that we value their ideas and contributions. They can be used to inpsire the next generation of kid inventors.

Brainstorm! is a great book about child inventors. Children in grades 3 through 6 will enjoy it. Each chapter -- averaging 2 to 5 pages -- focuses on a child and his or her inventions. There are plenty of female inventors, and the book includes some inventions that are modest as well as ground-breaking. This book will inspire children to have confidence in their ideas.

This book gives loads of ideas and stories to inspire kids to become inventors. Almost a hundred examples of kids inventing are featured along with advice on each step of the invention process. The author shows that its a fun and a potenially Money Making activity. Kids Inventing! can change a child's life!

I really love Kids Inventing!, THE handbook for young inventors. Written by that expert on invention (also see author Susan Casey's excellent book, Women Invent!), this is a book about inventions by kids, and it's written to be read and used by kids.
Easy to read, full of first-rate practical advice, with lots of good photos and charts, this book will be especially useful not only for all those young inventors out there, but also for their teachers. I'm a teacher myself, and am always on the lookout for books that encourage children to think big, to explore what could be, to use their imagination...and Kids Inventing! is exactly this kind of inspiring book.
The advice on patents and trademarks alone is well worth the price of the book. There is a great deal too, of interesting history throughout. The sections on awards, invention fairs, science fairs, contests, camps...all of these add to the completely practical aspect of Kids Inventing! Author Casey guides the reader step-by-step, always encouraging, always guiding with a sure hand.
Kids Inventing! is sure to be a big hit with the brightest, highest achieving students....but I believe that it will also be of plenty of interest to most kids. This one ought to be in every school library...shot it ought to be in all the classrooms! Highly recommended.

The "Codename: Kids Next Door '2x4 Technology Handbook'" is one of the ultimate books in KND knowledge. (The other is "Sooper Secrets and Boomerang Bloopers".)
This book, presented by Numbuh Two, has SOME of the KND inventions used in episodes like "Operation: L.I.C.E." and "Operation: S.H.A.V.E.", and others you've never seen before ! Each gadget, weapon, and vehicle has the inside info on what it's used for and what it's made out of for their full potential. Also, each invention tells quite a story or two; especially with the fact that more new episodes are being aired.
So if you want to know about some of the KND doohickies and thingamabobs used in the TV show are, get this book and be amazed. Though I wish they'd put in more inventions and other stuff in there because I am surely more than certain there's many, many more than that !
