Book Description
From Michaels--America's largest specialty retailer of arts and crafts merchandise and the place to get supplies for painting, floral and home décor, needlework, scrapbooking, and more--comes an extraordinarily big, beautiful, and encyclopedic collection of techniques and 175 projects. Whatever a crafter's pleasure, it is in here, from beading and woodworking to glass and fabric crafts. The 30 subject areas are divided into 9 chapters that all feature a basic instructions section packed with plentiful color pictures and designer tips; 5 to 10 projects; and a two-page spread of gallery photos of additional projects for inspiration. What's included in this unequalled treasure trove?
* Beading: wire and bead jewelry, wire crafting, and decorative beading
* Clay: polymer and bread dough
* Painting: stenciling, faux finishing, and gold leafing. With the gilding techniques, even the simplest box can look like an heirloom.
* Paper: memory books and cards, decoupage, rubber stamping
* Floral crafts: dried flowers, silk flower arranging, potpourris and sachets. A rose floral silk pillow brings springtime indoors year-round.
* Glass: glass painting and etching. The lovely flasks with stars, leaves, and swirls would make a beautiful display.
* Home decorating: candlemaking and decorating (including gel) and soapmaking
* Wood: wood finishing and burning, plus clockmaking
* Fabric: painting on fabric, tie die, and sun painting
An appendix covers basic materials and techniques, including typing the perfect bow, lettering, and basic mat cutting.
Whether you want more projects using your favorite craft, or are interested in learning a new one, this volume is a must-have.

Great Reference Book!.......2007-05-13
While I'm not a "crafter," I do enjoy some of the great items and techniques that many crafts offer. I bought this more in the hopes of finding a nice jumping off point for getting into some areas of crafting. I found that and MORE! This book has not only many different types of crafts, there are also several projects for each type that walk you through them, step-by-step. Additionally, there is discussion of different techniques and tools used in each of the crafts.
Lastly, the very best part of the book are the short photo galleries at the end of every chapter showing other projects that have been done using the techniques from the book. This is a fabulous resource for creative ideas!
While the book as a whole may be a a bit rudimentary for a regular crafter, if you are just getting started and want a great reference tool along with some well photographed inspiration... THIS is the book for you!
Good overview, but needs more illustrations........2006-11-02
This is a beautiful book to page through. The pictures and techniques described are extremely inspiring. The only issue I have with the book is that it's very wordy in some places. I would like to see more pictures of each step, instead of paragraphs explaining what to do, with only the final product to look at. A very small quibble, though. This is an excellent book, and I definitely recommend it.
Yeaaaaahh, I'm the first one to write a review for this book !!!!!!!!.......2006-01-22
This is a solid book with great crafting ideas. It's ideal for someone who may want to learn a new craft. There are lots of ideas and instructions for a variety of crafting topics. There are also variations on the ideas that they give you. Some topics are candlemaking, soapmaking, mosaics, jewelry making and lots more. I'm a little surprised that currently Amazon is not offering the book at a cheaper price as that's why I usually buy my books on Amazon. But at least you get $25 worth of tips and ideas. Although my favorite crafts are scrapbooking, cross stitch, wreath making and home decor, I'm always looking for that something extra to learn about. This book is a great all around craft book. Enjoy.

In the best-selling tradition of How To Draw Pokemon, this new title in one of Troll's most popular series teaches kids how to draw their favorite Nintendo heroes and villains, from Donkey Kong and Mario to Luigi, Link, Princess Zelda, Yoshi, and more!

How to Draw Nintendo Heroes and Villains by Michael Teitelbaum.......2006-11-10
This book was purchased for my 10 year old son for his birthday. He had a Mario party, so I had to create the pinata (a 1 up mushroom) and invitations, a pin-the-hat on the Mario, etc. all from scratch because you can't find any good Mario party stuff anymore.
The drawing book was an attempt at finding stuff to give him for his birthday that was Mario. I also purchased a DVD with Mario cartoons, and the movie The Wizard on DVD. The drawing book has not been used yet, so I'm not sure how much he likes it but he said it was really cool when he opened it.
best book ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-10-31
they are easy to draw and fun too!!!!! if you don't buy your missing out.
Saddened........2006-07-04
I am so disappointed.
I thought this book was going to teach me to improvise characters using Nintendo's style, not just teaching me to draw a few of their characters...now I have to actually think to get their style down right =(
booky.......2005-12-10
If you haven't met me before, I'm Skullface Mcfireball (sfmf for short). I have this book, and I wouldn't reccomend it. It shows how to draw Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, Toad, DK, and more. But no Bowser! Krog is the most silmilar to him, but I can't belive no Bowser! Who is Krog anyway? whatever, see ya peoples!
Nintendo Needs Work on How To Draw Books........2003-06-10
I found this book very enjoyable, but the books seems to short. I could use more pictures on some of the characters that lacked a body tutorial. Like Wario, the book only teaches you to draw his mug, and I want more than that!
Some characters needed more poses, and some were just plain excluded from the book. Like Lanky, or Funky, or Cranky from Donkey Kong 64. Do not get me wrong, I love this book, but it is somewhat lacking in the selection of poses.
This book has tedious drawing instructions, but if you are a Nintendo fan, and are persistent, this book is for you!

Customer Reviews:
Too much for younger kids, too simple for older kids........2004-01-05
This was a pretty good book - I almost gave it 4 stars. The book has some useful info and the advice is sound (based on other 1st aid books I've read), so I don't think it would be a waste of anyone's money. The stated reading level is 9-12 but I felt it was a little too ambitious for most kids under 12 and too simple for kids over 12. I read this book to my 7 year old and most of it was over her head and had too many "steps". MY 12 year old also read it and she too thought there were too many "steps" in the instructions on what to do in an emergency. The sections in each chapter called "GET HELP!" were confusing to both kids. If you're looking for a Safety/1st Aid book for someone under 12 I would highly recommend "The Safety Book for Active Kids" (also sold by Amazon). If the reader is someone over 12 then a Red Cross First Aid Course and an adult first aid manual might be a better use of your money.
The Kids' Guide to First Aid.......2002-03-19
This book is perfect for kids and not bad for adults either. It is very clearly written and has outstanding illustrations. The health strategies and tips provided are done in the context of prevention... But things happen, accidents occur, kids get hurt. This book helps you and your children learn/know what to do in these situations. A fun, interesting, read.
You are never to young to learn!.......2002-03-09
I have 2 young children (ages 5 and 9 yrs old) myself and helping them understand what happens to their bodies when they hurt themselves is tough to do. Not to mention what to do when they are injured. Sometimes it is more "scared about the unknown" than anything. This book really helps the child research and learn how their bodies tell them when they are hurt and how to take care of the simpler injuries themselves. Plus, the format of the book draws them into learning about their bodies before an injury occurs. The illustrations are funny and help drive the points home in a kids kind of way. Great book and my daughter is already trying out the different first aid techniques in advance. Teach the child and you have taught the adult forever!

Customer Reviews:
Great for Beginners.......2007-05-02
I bought this kit for my nephews first birthday party, since we were doing a circus theme I wanted to be able to make balloon animals. The directions are easy to read and the pictures are great examples. Within the first night of practice I was able to make the stage 3 projects. I wish there were more projects but I figured out how to do other animals just tweeking some of the instructions. The pump and balloons are not the best, but they work and are good just for practice. I planned to be getting better balloons for the party anyway, so it was nice to have a practice supply
disappointed.......2007-04-07
The pump doesn't work at all. The balloons pop off while being filled, or the air leaks out. So disappointing to have the kit ready and then not to be able to inflate a balloon.
This is really just a book with balloons--you'll need to buy a separate pump.
The best balloon-twisting manual on the market!.......2003-05-06
As a professional clown, I am constantly in search of books and tapes that can help me improve my balloon twisting skills. The instructions in this book are both clear and concise. All terms used are defined. I was delighted to find easy to follow directions for a dinosaur! Up until now, I always told the kids that you can't make a dinosaur from a balloon.
Good book, disappointing supply.......2002-12-28
The book gives a very good introduction to making all kinds of balloon "figures". The directions are clear and easy to follow. My six year old can successfully make items rated 1 and 2 (e.g. the dog and the house) while my nine-year old successfully made something rated a three.
I have two gripes with the book. First, after a long spiel explaining why you should buy good quality balloons, they simply state that you can balloons from party stores or the internet. Now, while the balloons that come with the kit are okay, you as a buyer end up just buying balloons by trial and error until you find a good source. Fortunately, these balloons are available in several places so I am sure we will find a good supplier over time.
Second, I was extremely disappointed in the poor quality of the "pump" that came with the kit. It's sharp lip tends to tear the balloons that were supplied with the kit; it takes a while to inflate the balloons using the pump; and since you do not want to go past the sharp lip, once you are done inflating the balloon, you end up struggling to tie a knot at the end of the balloon. We remedied the problem by buying a very easy to use balloon pump from Wal-Mart for under $$$. If only the authors had included a better pump, this kit would have ended up with a 5 star rating instead of the three stars that it is getting right now.
Rated separately, the book would get a 5 star while the kit (the pump and balloons) would get 1.5 or 2 stars (the pump obviously lowered the rating).

Fabulous resource.......2004-05-26
I purchased this book along with Kids Crazy Art Concoctions. Both provide awesome ways for kids to become engaged with learning. This is a very hands-on science book that inspires kids to get mixing, thinking, and learning all through science-based recipes.
Not what I Expected!.......2004-01-11
I expected this book was part of the popular Kid Concoctions book series and quickly found out is was not. My children were bored with the outdated projects that seemed to have been put together with little creative effort.
way cool..........2002-09-02
...[Everyone loves] thumbing thru the book finding something to do. usually have everything on hand at a moments notice. this book is looking well worn and for good reason.
Excellent book!.......2000-12-15
What I love best about this book is that I can usually pull together the items needed to do the experiments. My 4 year old loves to do experiments and I can let him browse the book for a picture that looks interesting and then we can do the experiment. I do not have to worry that I do not have the neccessary items. In fact, many times you can read the directions to your child and they can do the experiment alone. This is such a great book that I stumbled on while browsing Amazon. I highly recommend this book as a first look at science for your child. Enjoy!
Fabulous, Easy, Fun, Cool, Amazing, & Creative!.......1999-06-25
This is an incredible book. The experiments are easy, fun, and cool to do. You and your child will be amazed at how easy these tricks and experiments really are to do. If you're a teacher, you'll love this book for your your primary classroom. My students have effectively completed these experiments and were simply amazed at how cool they turned out! This is a must have book. Really!!!

Fun for all ages.......2007-01-22
As mentioned in the previous reviews this book is for the entire family and for all ages. My three-year-old daughter loves the illustrations in the book and wants us to read the book to her. So with a little tweaking she enjoys the book and participating in word play with us. Michael Kline's creativity is incredible. This book will not only improve your verbal skills but also your visual imagination. If you have never had a creative block this book with certainly help you out. I use some of the word games in my classes to increase my student's abilities to visually communicate.
Fun and Engaging .......2005-12-13
Michael Kline has hit the hail on the nead with WordPlay Cafe. It's an invitation to look at and practice language in a completely different way. It takes some practice but I guarantee, once you let the imagination go, you will want to keep delving into the world of wordplay and punzles!
A Feast for Young Verbivores.......2005-11-19
In WordPlay Cafe Michael Kline's banquet of word fun and lively illustrations guarantee a feast of food for thought. This guy Kline says a mouthful. He knows language and he knows how to make children want to eat their words.

Words-A-Go-Go.......2005-11-01
First there were words. Then the words were made fun. And in Wordplay Cafe author Mike Kline shows you, oh so successfully, how to make more fun with words. This interactive book teaches kids of all ages the power of words and ways to be creative with their meanings and sounds. It's a great way for kids and parents to have quality time with each other.

Fun for the entire family.......2005-10-31
Kline has a wonderful sense of humour that can be appreciated by any age group. He really challenges kids (and adults) to look at language in a different way - the fun way! The book reads like a rollercoaster ride...or maybe a better analogy would pinball machine: it bounces off topics and tangents in a delightfully free-wheeling manner. Not for ADD kids, this book is meant for children who are willing to engage with subject matter for a wonderful reward. Kline's book belongs in the category of "children's books" the way that Bloom County belonged in the same comics section of the paper with Funky Winkerbean and Family Circus. This book truly works best when the whole family joins in on the fun. The activities are perfect for getting fun discussions going between children and adults. A highly recommended read for anyone (at any age) who wants to re-discover language and have fun along the way.

Teaching Resource.......2007-09-02
The Kid's Multicultural cookbook is a handy teacher resource when studying a unit such as multiculturalism in the primary years. It is full of recipes from around the world and ideas of things to do. The recipes are very simple and the most culturally orientated recipe for each land.
Around the world in your Kitchen.......2006-08-20
This is a really fun cookbook. It gives a sampling of recipes from numerous countries around the world. It is also sensitive to availabily of ingredients, nothing strange or exotic that isn't available at the local grocers. Our kids have enjoyed cooking with it and we have certainly benefited from their efforts! It's great to see them going beyond Mac and Cheese and actually learning about cooking. They are already finding it is a creative outlet, that just happens to meet the need of eating.
Taste the World!.......2002-06-01
Many of my family's favorite foods are "ethnic" so we thought we'd dive right in and discover what else the world is eating that we haven't tried yet. Just looking through the pages makes you want to start cooking! We'll be better prepared now, to dodge the familiar "What's for dinner?" with an enthusiastic response and a taste adventure. Children of all ages can prepare most of the dishes, and there are activities and trivia from several countries represented in the book. We decided to buy it after briefly looking through a library copy.
A great introduction to international food for young people........1999-09-22
Ms. Cook obviously put a lot of effort into this compilation of recipes and facts. She interviewed children around the world to find out about the things they eat, and pictures of some of these children are shown throughout the book. The book is divided into regions of the world by continent, and the recipes are rated for difficulty with spoons- one spoon is the easiest, and three spoons requires at least moderate adult help and supervision. Many of the foods turn out to be familiar dishes with different names (like Sherpa Popcorn and Ox-Eye Eggs), and there are ideas for theme parties (after-ski breakfast, ice cream buffet, etc.) throughout the book. I originally bought this book for my then-10-year-old sister, who was just beginning to show an interest in cooking, and now that she is 13 she still uses this book. A lot of these recipes are easy and quick enough to be used in a classroom or school cooking club. I bought a copy of this book for myself and think it is truly neat!

This author has actually met a child.......2007-03-13
This book is a fabulous text for introducing the beginning "meterologist" to the weather. My children adore the hands-projects, illustrations, and the cartoons added for comic-relief. As a parent, I loved seeing my three children work together on a project. The excitement created in my home was a joy to watch. As a homeschooling parent, hearing them jump out of bed asking, "Can we do science first?" was delightful.
good book.......2005-06-06
This is really good book about making weather tools, and learning about the weather. iits an awesome book!!!!!!
Kid's Weather.......2000-10-06
Fabulous! Mark Breen's new book helps kids and grown-ups understand how the weather works. He gives great instructions on how to build weather instruments. He gives lots of hints for predicting the weather, including looking out the window. The Weather Man's Song is a hit!
