It's easy with Linda Hetzer's detailed step-by-step directions and illustrations. Using cloth or paper napkins, create standing triangular-shaped folds (the "Tavern") for dinner parties. A few accordion pleats transforms a piece of cloth into the "Poinsettia." Need festive ideas for a children's birthday party? Make "Sailboats" or "Paper Airplanes." Graduate to more intricate designs that combine napkins with silverware, flowers, and wineglasses.

The Simple Art of Napkin Folding.......2007-01-26
Helpful book has many ideas for those who still like to set a nice table and actually use cloth napkins.
Great book.......2007-01-13
I like this book. It has a lot of cute folds, it is easy to follow and the book is laid out well. It even has a section on some folds for children. The only thing that could possibly make this book better would be if it was in color.
easy to follow.......2006-11-03
I bought this book after considering several others on line, and now I won't need to buy another. I wanted something that was easy to understand and follow to make the dinner table a little something special for my wife after she comes home from work. Having dinner ready was just not enough for me, and thought about the napkin presentation. This book has more than you will ever need, and each one is clearly drawn out and easy to understand. Money well worth spent.
Love it!.......2005-09-27
This book has easy to follow instructions and is very informative about the history of the napkin folds. My husband smiles when he sits down to eat. It's fun decorating the table now.
Somewhat palatable.......2003-06-20
Being a napkin enthusiast, naturally I'm quite an avid fan of Linda Hetzer, however, I find it immensely unnerving that she inexcusably has omitted several key napkin folding solutions. Apparently, she just wouldn't make the effort to list 100 Fancy Folds, just only 94 - how revolting.

Book Description
As sweet as a love note, as welcome as a holiday, as easy as pie.
Take simple squares of cloth, succinctly written directions, and clearly photographed steps and create fantastic napkin folds that transform your table into a showpiece.
Mixing whimsy and elegance, celebrity event designer David Stark fashions stylish setups for every occasion. In Napkins with a Twist, Stark turns his unerring eye to the art of the perfect table setting, focusing on the quick, inexpensive, and creative.
From everyday to evening, children's parties to black-tie affairs, a clever napkin fold turns any gathering into a memorable event. Classic folds such as the Tuexedo Fold, together with Stark's own innovative designs—including the wildly fun Fortune Cookie and Sushi Roll folds—make setting the table a no-brainer.
Folds from Buckingham Palace and the Kennedy White House, New York's Pierre and Napa Valley's French Laundry, reveal how royalty, the rich and famous, the world's legendary restaurants, all put just the right touches on their signature starched linens.
Along with its array of napkin folds, Napkins with a Twist spills over with useful tips, how-to lists, etiquette reminders, table settings, and surprising suggestions for how a napkin fold can become the starting point for designing an entire occasion.

Great for beginners .......2007-06-04
I bought this book many years ago and I still use it today.
(I'm the kind of learner that needs a how-to book on napkin folding.I can't just look at a napkin and do it)
So,if you need a book with great step-by-step instructions on napkin folding, then this book is the book for you.
PS: Plz note that this book was written in the 1980's. The photos are mostly in black and white.
Good, Simple Instructions.......2000-12-17
I had no problem using this to fold napkins for Thanksgiving. I did the cardinal's hat (on the cover) and the one that makes a pocket for slipping the silverware into. They came out great and added a lot to the table setting. Small book, maybe 25 different folds -- more than enough for me.
pas cher et très bien expliqué!.......2000-04-26
Ce livre est très bien fait. Il a 22 figures. J'ai beaucoup aimé: rabbit, swan, boat with sails, laddy's slipper.
Book Description

More Than Just Folding..........2007-01-16
This book is very well laid out. Background information on table setting, napkin etiquette, simple instructions, and large color photos make this book an excellent choice...especially for a novice like me!
The book contains not only napkin folding techniques, it gives information on various napkin fabrics, basic sizes used for each meal, napkin etiquette, information on napkin care & storage, and stain removal tips. Also, there is a page containing proper table-setting etiquette.
The book contains forty napkin folds divided into three categories; Elegance, Charm, and Whimsy. Included in the types of folds are designs for holding items such as place cards, flatware, or food (the "Duchess Crown" is photographed holding a muffin). I have practiced most all the folds and I especially enjoyed making "Sunset Sails" as well as the heart-shaped "A Little Romance" folds. My "Bread Box" fold was a little wimpy as I practiced with napkins that aren't well starched.
Instructions for the napkin folding are given in simple, easy-to-follow steps and a picture of each step is included. A large color photo of the final outcome is included. Most of the folds are done in three or four simple steps. (A few contain up to five steps whereas the "Bread Box" and "Duchess Crown" each contin seven steps).
I found this book delightful in that it was easy for the novice to use and supplied that little extra something with its tips for table setting and napkin etiquette as well as storage/care of linens. I plan to share this book with my friends who like to host dinner parties.

Customer Reviews:
I love this book! I just bought it!.......2005-07-11
I love to sew and sometimes I like small projects to have fun with. This is the best napkin book around! Every page has things to do and great ideas and I have even come up with my own ideas!
This is a great book to use for holiday gifts also. I am already planning to make napkins for every holiday and for family too.
Some books have a few great projects but this one has "all" great projects!
Instructions work!.......2005-01-04
Great book! Between the clear sketches and photos you can actually do these napkin folds. The use of colors is really effective - a good lesson to learn.
Worth it just for the photos!.......2004-10-23
The photography in this book is simply spectacular. Yes, the instructions are well-written and clear, but the reader can extract all sorts of ideas just by flipping through the beautiful pages. This book makes a great gift -- I've stocked up on 15 of them, just for that purpose.
Karen Brown, Seattle, Washington
Simply Napkins.......2004-08-09
Simply Napkins is a very informative book. What a simple way to dress up your table and very creative ideas to embelish napkins. As I do not entertain formally very often - the reference guides for table settings is a very nice touch. That will help me feel more confident on the occasions I do entertain formally. I especially liked the chapter entitled "Napkins As Gifts and Decor". Very neat ideas - even for people who don't sew. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Napkin Nirvana.......2004-06-04
Gail's first napkin book, "Quick Napkin Creations" changed the way our family eats dinner -- for the better -- and we haven't used a paper napkin since! Now "Simply Napkins" has raised the bar. It's really different from anything on the market, or previously published. Not just napkin folding (although the folds are uniquely easy, even for those of us with two left thumbs), but innovative. I love the affordable rings for any occasion, the fast, fun finishing techniques, the fabulous fashions and furnishings, and the all-new "Quilt-Lovers" section (who knew you could do so much with little fabric squares)? Also worth the price of the book are the napkin care and stain removal tips. So helpful. If you don't do anything else today, buy this book. You'll love it for the beautiful color pages and the clever and imaginative table settings -- it may change how you and your family eat dinner, too!

Customer Reviews:
Fun to read........1999-01-28
This is a fun book to read if you like symbolism, and even if you don't, it's fun to read the poems in the back. In this, almost every flower, clover and herb has a meaning and just about any flower you can you'll find in here. The illustrations are sweet, and this is a great reference if you're looking for something sentimental to give a friend.
Book Description
With easy-to-follow instructions and step-by-step illustrations, Napkin Folding shows you how to create ingenious napkin fold for every tabletop occasion. Forty-four unique designs include:
• The Lily — elegant when fanned out in a stemmed glass.
• The French Fold — insert a place card or menu between the folds.
• The Palm Leaf — perfect for showing off your napkin–ring collection.
• The Gondola — ideal for serving breakfast or fruit.
James Ginders, who has a repertoire of more than 180 folds, rates each one by degree of difficulty, ranging from elementary to advanced, and also indicates which folds can be done with paper napkins as well as linen.
This handy practical guide will help you add that special finishing touch to your entertaining table.
Customer Reviews:
NOT for Amateurs.......2004-12-25
This book is NOT for amateurs, but those who are striving to be the masters in any aspect of the restaurant, culinary, and food service business. Accordingly,
THINGS I LIKE ...
1. This is absolutely one of the cheapest reference books around that you'll ever find. It's a true bargain.
2. The black & white photos are excellent. They are really "presentation" at its finest.
3. The esoteric names for all the various folds are handy and valuable to know, connoting a real dedication to excellence in this field.
4. The one-page drawings are ok, but not for the "abstract-challenged." Better students of math will do better with them. Again, not for amateurs.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE ....
1. Color pictures would be nice.
2. Yes, only two pages per fold design is a limitation in getting it across.
3. Longer explanations would help even amateurs to grasp the steps. But then, that's the competition, right?!
Highly affordable, and thus recommended for anybody who has found this subject.
Some good-looking folds, but incomprehensible instructions........2004-03-28
I've been into napkin-folding for over 35 years, since first encountering some brief folds in the Vincent & Mary Price Cookbook, "Treasury of Great Recipes." While I find at least a couple of the folds in "Napkin Folding" compelling (not a very good percentage), they also seem to be the ones with the least comprehensible instructions. Ginders is fine when he's writing conventional text, but it seems like he's bent over backwards to make his explanations brief...to the point of uselessness.
Other books offer more ideas.......2003-03-27
Hmmm. Other, similar books offer up to 94 easy folds, so this may leave you feeling short-changed. Only buy if you know you're unlikely to need more than 50 types of fold.
Better books exist on the subject.......2001-01-13
As a chief steward on private yachts, I'm always on the lookout for good books on napkin folding. Unfortunately, this isn't really one of them. There are some good folds but, the instructions are difficult to decipher. Of the 44 different folds offered, I've used about two.
Poor instructions unless you like solving puzzles........1998-01-18
Nice black and white and a few color photos. Our family found the instructions nearly incomprehensible and frustrating. Many interesting designs if you can puzzle them out. Suffers in comparison to "Folding Napkins" by Gay Merrill Gross (1993, paperback).

Napkins 60 Easy folds.......2000-06-19
This is a very unique book with some great ideas. It gives those of us who have very little creativity something to start the ideas coming. I also applaud the author for her reason in writing the book. I am not a young person and I remember when the dinner table was special in the life of most families. The author has made it a fun and easy book to read and also to practice the different folds. The names are interesting and very appropriate to the fold. I've saved, what for me is, the best for last. The folds and the whole book is not formal like most books of this type. It would be a great thing if this book could put the American family back together at the table for dinner. Hey, Mom what fold should I use tonight.
