Thank you. I received the product in a timely manner and the book was in excellent condition. I am enjoying reading it and will start the projects in the fall when I have more time.
Innovative.......2007-01-11
Innovative quilting techniques that really work. I wish the authors had included instructions for an actual quilt rather than just small projects. Special supplies are required for cutting, pinning, basting, marking and fusing. The investment in supplies is well worth it though, if you plan to complete multiple projects.

Excellent!.......2006-03-27
This book offers exactly what the title says - basic beading techniques for quilters. It tells you about supplies to get started. The pictures of how to sew in the beads are very clear. And it gives several examples of finished projects. I only wish they had more pictures of beaded projects. Other than that, the book was just what I was looking for and very, very helpful for a person who had never done beading on fabric before. I bought another book titled Beaded Embellishment by Clarke and Atkins. Together they are a fabulous pair!
Good Basic Book.......2006-03-16
Mary Stori is a self-taught bead embroiderer who works on fabric and quilts. This book contains a lot of basic information about kinds of beads, equipment, how to begin and end stitching, and is accompanied by loads of photos.
I would like to have had some drawings to show me where to put my thread through the beads and into the fabric, since I am not sure about my technique in some stitches.
Mari Stori does her bead embroidery differently than others do but the book is an excellent text for beginners. Lots of color and examples.
It's okay.......2004-12-05
It's got some cute ideas, but I was hoping it would be better than it was. I'll keep it anyway, though.

I would recommend this to anyone interested in hand quilting, whether a beginner or a long time quilter. Alex Anderson is one of the best teachers and supporters of quilting. She does an excellant job with her program " Simply Quilts". I would recommend all her books.

Alex Anderson, host of HGTV's Simply Quilts, makes quilting easy and appealing for first-time quilters. In this slim volume, Anderson explains about tools (from the rotary cutter to the iron to the sewing machine), fabric selection and preparation, and basic techniques needed to begin quilting. She then offers simple but good-looking projects to utilize your newfound skills. Once you've learned the preliminaries of cutting, pinning, stitching, pressing, and finishing, you'll be ready to make any (or all) of the six quilts in the book: Rail Fence, Nine Patch, Log Cabin, Friendship Star, Flying Geese, or Sampler.

Start Quilting with Alex Anderson.......2007-09-26
I used this book in a small group who met and got together to quilt. Since we are of all levels of quilting and sewing, we used this as our beginners project and are all glad we did. Turned out to be wonderful for all of us. Great instructions and photo's making it easy for those of us with all levels of experience. We all had a ball doing it too. Bravo to our group. We keep pushing ourselves on to do more and more and love it all the time.
Alex Anderson's quilts are fast and fun.......2007-07-08
I purchased Start Quilting with Alex Anderson: Six Projects for First-Time Quilters, 2nd Edition, and have made the first two projects. As a very beginner quilter, I found her instructions to be very clear and understandable. I look foward to working on the next projects in the book.
Great book for beginning quilter.......2007-05-21
I thought I knew a lot about home sewing since I've been doing that for over 35 years but I was always afraid to try quilting. I found this book and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to try quilting, but unsure quite where to start. The instructions are great and easy to follow. The text is well-written and easy to understand and the photos/drawings used for examples are great. The book gives you a great variety of starter projects to choose from, along with fabric and design suggestions . I'm proud to say I'm nearly finished with my first project from the book and I can't wait to try my next one.
Excellent!.......2007-05-12
This is a truly excellent beginner book. I had never quilted before and have just completed the first project-in four days! I'm so glad I bought this book, and I'm already choosing fabrics for the next project in the book. I have enough confidence now to upgrade it into a bed-size quilt for my daughter.
Terrific patterns and directions. . . .......2007-03-18
This book is an excellent resource. As soon as I received it, I wanted to make every one of them!

Diamond Quilts & Beyond.......2006-03-17
Great book. Very good directions. Just what I had been looking for.
An inspiriting collection.......2005-09-06
Jan Krentz's Diamond Quilts & Beyond: From The Basics To Dazzling Designs tells how to turn a quilt literally into a work of art, using Impressionist painting inspirations to translate to fabric with diamond patterns. Particularly notable is a gallery of quilts which feature hand-painted and diamond patterns, flowers and figures in diamond quilts, and much more. An inspiriting collection.
As much a Reference Book as a Project Book!.......2005-07-07
The Diammond Quilts & Beyond book has so much information that I've already re-read it three times. The project directions are well written and thorough. But the concept really inspires me to design an original diamond quilt - the "Beyond" in the title!
Dazzling Diamonds.......2005-07-07
Diamond shapes in many sizes and configurations dazzle the eye in this instructional quilt book by Jan Krentz. The directions, hints and tips for making a striking quilt with diamonds are easy to understand with Jan's detailed descriptions and photos. The gallery quilts are stunning and inspiring, and make you want to rush to the sewing room to start one of your own.
Customer Reviews:
great resource.......2006-03-04
if you like making 19th-century style applique, this is the book for you. even if you aren't interested in the 19th century style, there is a lot of good information on creating applique.
the author has analyzed the elements that give 19th century applique its charm and character. she offers many designs, her own and those of others, all of which are inspirational. there are almost(!) enough pictures of antique quilts.
her writing is enjoyable, and her suggestions and advice are based on a great deal of study and experience.
the photographs are excellent, and best of all, there are no 'decorator' views of the quilts--the kind that drape and arrange a quilt until you can't tell what the design is. the gallery is wonderful.
there are templates for the applique designs, but not for quilting patterns. the author offers a short paragraph on quilting and leaves the rest to the quilter. i think this is a plus, since it leaves more of the book for applique, which is what i wanted. i only wish space had not been wasted on a superficial quide to quilting. those pages could have been given to another wonderful pattern or more photos of quilts, and more complete instruction is available in the many fine books on the market for beginners.
definitely belongs in any quilter's library.
Lots of pictures.......2005-09-05
The author emphasizes that applique uniformity doesn't have to be perfect from block-to-block. I liked the section with directions on how to design your own applique patterns from foldling and cutting paper. The author often uses just her eye to place pattern pieces with beautiful results.
