Book Description

What do these major record-setting events have in common?

• The ten costliest insurance events in U.S. history • The twelve costliest hurricanes in U.S. history • Three of the four largest tornado outbreaks in U.S. history • The two largest terrorism events in U.S. history

All of these major catastrophes and many others occurred or began on the very same day or within 24-hours of U.S. presidents Bush, Clinton and Bush applying pressure on Israel to trade her land for promises of "peace and security," sponsoring major "land for peace" meetings, making major public statements pertaining to Israel's covenant land and /or calling for a Palestinian state.

Are each one of these major record-setting events just a coincidence or awe-inspiring signs that God is actively involved in the affairs of Israel?

In this book, Bill Koenig provides undeniable facts and conclusive evidence showing that indeed the leaders of the United States and the world are on a collision course with God over Israel's covenant land.

"And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem" (Zechariah 12:9)

This book shows how dangerous it is to base political decisions on fundamentalist religious ideas. Aside from the Black Plague and the Spanish Flu, nothing caused more pain, suffering, and death than nutcases who rampaged the world clinging on their absolute belief of right and wrong...
It's a really scary thought that the Middle East is being reshaped on both sides by lunatics.

5 out of 5 stars Very Eye Opening and an excellent read.......2007-06-11

The book starts with a lot of history and it seems that I keep picking it up when I am not 100% in the mood to learn history and that I have to keep going back over areas already read. This makes it hard to keep moving! I am enjoying learning about where we have come from and where we are headed. The book relates so much current information with the reality that if things do not change, then we are headed for a real eye opening on American soil. God bless you for reading this...it is time for America to open their eyes and understand truth.

5 out of 5 stars YOU CAN'T PLAY AROUND WITH GOD.......2007-06-01

When I wrote to the USA for Bill Koenig's book I knew I was going to receive a blessing! The author's spiritual perception intrigued me and often when cross checking his Scripture references I kept discover more "gold" in God's Word. Sad to say many Christians brush off the authors interpretation of the consequences of dividing the land of Israel. In the light of this unique book I can now understand why Britain no longer "rules the waves". Her treatment of the Jews and Israel has been a disgrace historically. Many nations are heading in the same direction! You can't play around with God! Israel is the apple of God's eye.

5 out of 5 stars Eye to Eye is Certainly an Eye Opener.......2007-03-22

This book follows the history of Israel and the effects of this history on various nations and their leaders. His thesis, well researched, is that God watches Israel and all who interact with her. It is a point of view that most news persons never investigate or consider. The book underlines God's promise to Abraham: to bless those who bless his seed and curse those who curse him.

4 out of 5 stars EYE TO EYE.......2007-03-19

I have not begun to read this book. I received two others in the same time period. However, the sub-title Facing The Consequences of DIVIDING ISRAEL. This title and the material in this book has historical, current and prophetic signifance as found in such Old Testament Passages of the Old Testament, i.e. the book of Zechariah especially chapters 12 and following.

I want to thank you for carrying such books which are of great importance for the believer, the seeker and the unbeliever who is willing to explore some Eternal Truths.

Thanks for this opportunity,

Harold E. Grubbs

Book Description

Immigration is perhaps the most enduring and elemental leitmotif of America. This book is the most powerful study to date of the politics and policies it has inspired, from the founders' earliest efforts to shape American identity to today's revealing struggles over Third World immigration, noncitizen rights, and illegal aliens. Weaving a robust new theoretical approach into a sweeping history, Daniel Tichenor ties together previous studies' idiosyncratic explanations for particular, pivotal twists and turns of immigration policy. He tells the story of lively political battles between immigration defenders and doubters over time and of the transformative policy regimes they built.

Tichenor takes us from vibrant nineteenth-century politics that propelled expansive European admissions and Chinese exclusion to the draconian restrictions that had taken hold by the 1920s, including racist quotas that later hampered the rescue of Jews from the Holocaust. American global leadership and interest group politics in the decades after World War II, he argues, led to a surprising expansion of immigration opportunities. In the 1990s, a surge of restrictionist fervor spurred the political mobilization of recent immigrants. Richly documented, this pathbreaking work shows that a small number of interlocking temporal processes, not least changing institutional opportunities and constraints, underlie the turning tides of immigration sentiments and policy regimes. Complementing a dynamic narrative with a host of helpful tables and timelines, Dividing Lines is the definitive treatment of a phenomenon that has profoundly shaped the character of American nationhood.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Well-written and engaging.......2005-04-20

This book will be useful to students of immigration, history, and political science. Tichenor shows us the complex set of connections between political institutions, interest groups, and political actors that combined to produce policy outcomes.

One of his most interesting findings regards the unusual fact that while most Americans favor tighter restrictions on immigration, politicians nowadays rarely enact such laws. Instead they usually increase immigration levels despite broad public opposition. Tichenor argues that this is because a "policy regime" has been structured over time, encompassing the immigration committees in both houses of Congress, and including the preferences of strong pro-immigration interest groups, that pushes for liberalization of immigration laws.

Only rarely in American history do restrictionists succeed in limiting immigration, most notably from the 1920's until the landmark 1964 law that set off the wave of immigrants from Latin America and Asia we still experience today. Tichenor's work is easily accessible, well-written, and thought provoking.

1 out of 5 stars Biased by Faulty Presuppositions.......2006-12-21

This is far from convincing. It is sort of like when R.C. debated John MacArthur on infant baptism and began his portion by admitting that what MacArthur had said was the product of careful exegesis of Scripture, while his own argument would be from a "screaming silence" in church history. Hmm. While Dr. Gerstner's book is quite thick it nevertheless fails to meaningfully engage the myriads of relevant Biblical texts. His scholarship at this level is most disappointing. Gerstner presupposes incompatibility between a reformed (5 point) soteriology and holding to the biblical distinction between Israel the Church. However both are the product of a consistent interpretation scripture and a sound hermeneutic. If you take away his presupposition the rest of the argumentation falls flat. There simply is no animosity in holding a high view of God's sovereignty along with acknowledging a future plan for the Nation of Israel that He will providentially bring to pass for His glory.

1 out of 5 stars What can I say? This is a very bad book!.......2006-12-15

I am amazed by anyone who attempts to redeem this very poor book. Vindictive, inaccurate and yes, un-scholarly! Read the reviews by Richard Mayhew in the Master's Journal and David Turner in Grace Journal (both reviews of the original edition). Honestly, there are other MUCH better and fairler reviews of dispensationalism (Poythress' for instance). You don't have to agree with dispensationalism but PLEASE let us disagree without this sort of "purple prose." Kistler should have started from scratch rather than attempt to "fix" this really bad book!

5 out of 5 stars What divides us?.......2006-03-23

Great book for getting to the heart of the issues separating Reformed Christians and Dispensational Christians. Gerstner was a great theologian, and in this book he is able to demonstrate that in many ways those of us in the Reformed camp view the gospel much differently than those in the Dispensational camp. If you want to understand the beliefs that seperate the Dispensational Christians, from those in the Reformed camp, this is the book.

5 out of 5 stars Dispensing with Dispensationalism.......2004-04-03

Growing up in a "fundamental Baptist" church I received nothing but the "Bible Truth" of the "end times", i.e., the eschatological system called Dispensationalism. Always had a twinge of concern about what I was hearing--so often the Bible proof texts offered to certify tenets of Dispensationalism didn't seem to really say what my teachers said they said. But what did I know? I was just a kid, they were the smart adults...

Reading the Bible for myself, cover to cover, year after year (trying to, anyway) led me to deeply question and doubt much of the eschatological notions I'd received from my upbringing. But not until God blessed me by some meetings with the late Dr. John Gerstner did I encounter "Wrongly Dividing the Word Of Truth."

Reading this book confirmed for me that I had sound reason for all the disquiet in my soul. Much of what Dr. Gerster covered I'd sort of figured out for myself, from Scripture--but only in this work did I find a careful, historical and Scriptural demolition of the doctrine.

"Wrongly Dividing the Word of Truth" rewards careful study. The author spends much time showing the historical roots and branches of dispensational development. He also demonstrates its Biblical and historical novelty, lack of support in the Church, and its logical fallacies and inconsistencies. Some readers may find these topics dry--I didn't, but I like reading Church history and the study of ideas and their development.

Of greatest interest, I think, for the Church as a whole: Dr. Gerstner shows how the evangelical churches of North America have departed theologically from their Reformation roots. Many if not most of the "dispensational" churches arise not from the 16th-17th century Reformation but from the "holiness" movements of the 19th century. Those sects uniformly rejected the sovereign grace of God in saving dead sinners, in favor of a Finneyan/Wesleyan notion of man saving himself by his "deciding for Christ". If God no longer controls the eternal destiny of individuals (humanistic soteriology), then why should we assume that He controls the destiny of the earth? What we believe about God and about His work matters--at EVERY level of thought. Dr. Gerstner (a sound Westminster Confession adherent) demonstrates how dispensational unsoundness on basic theology and soteriology leads directly to unsoundness in eschatology. Dr. Gerstner quotes published works of dispensationalists over the years, showing their unsoundness in their own words.

That dispensationalism now recedes in the Church becomes plainer with each passing year. I like to believe that our Lord has used Dr. Gerstner's challenging book to produce at least some of that benefit. I heartily endorse the book to all serious Christian readers.

4 out of 5 stars Succinct and to the Point.......2001-12-08

Dr. Gerstner and Dr. Kistler have written a good response to the foundational problems of dispensationalism namely; it's hermeneutic (method of exegesis and interprestation) and it's philosophy. Rather than respond to every text that dispensationalists use to argue their interpretations, Gerstner and Kistler take the approach of following dispensationalist arguments to their necessary end and analyzing the ramifications.

Anyone who has been enthralled with "Left Behind" and "Late Great Planet Earth" mania ought to read where dispensationalist theology leads. The only problem with the book is that it spends too much time finding the roots of the theology rather than refuting more of the claims of dispensationalists from different angles.

The authors make the compelling argument that there are only two peoples in the world today: those of faith in God through the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us....and those who deny Him before man and are under judgement.

A very good read - give it uninformed friends.

I really like the book. Her research is done with a select population of women, most of whom went to private schools as children. Thus there is an inherent bias but I think it brings a tangible light to the real divide that continues to grow between classes in America. This was a required reading for a Masters in Education class.

2 out of 5 stars Review for Dividing Classes.......2006-05-09

Dividing classes reaises many questions regarding how the middle class views school advantage. Through interviews and personal experiences, the author describes her positive and negative experiences with the educational system. We found this book gives rise to many controversial issues some with which we agree as well as some issues we disagree with. While the author does give concrete examples, we believe SES is not the only predictor for educational success.

4 out of 5 stars Thought provoking book.......2003-11-16

This book is interesting because of the author's choice to focus on the middle class. Despite the fact that you may disagree with this approach (as i did in the beginning) it pushes one to think about the class positionality of the middle class and one's self as well. I would especially read this book if you are in the middle class and have children who will be or are in school now.

This the book to read if you want to learn about the Compromise of 1850. Nevins goes into great detail about the Compromise and the reaction to its passage in the two sections of the country.
