Selling Handmade jewelry........2007-10-05
This was an easy read....I enjoyed the suggestions on marketing and creating your own "uniform" look w/ tags, packaging materials, mailers ...etc. I was hoping for a more detailed section that covered internet sales and ideas for successful e commerce.
This book covered more ideas for successful customer relations and general business ettiquete.
Vikki shared some helpful information. This is a good place to start..if you are just starting you jewelry business.
Great book. Excellent ideas.......2007-08-06
This is a gem of a book. It has a lot of great ideas on how to build up your company and get things moving. Being a graphic designer by training I know all about branding and creating an image. So that was the one of the first things that I did. But most of the other ideas were new to me and very useful. I have a large room in which my workshop is situated, but I hadn't really considered turning a portion of it into a gallery. But it's a great idea and I am now in the process of doing just that. The advice on getting into boutiques is also very good. I would say this little book is well worth the price and I recommend it highly to any aspiring jeweler. I would also say that the advice is probably good for other crafters and artisans.
Informative.......2007-07-21
This book was incredibly informative! Aside from Viki Laureau's firt-hand experience, the examples of other artists' portfolios, ideas, etc are very helpful. She did a great job of writing this book for the layman who might not have a strong background in business/economics. It's a nice step-by-step guide to get you on you feet.
Really useful.......2007-04-24
This book has heaps of useful information. I found the information very helpful when I was setting up my jewelry site and planning for my marketing strategy. Inspiring and well worth the money.
Fantastic book!.......2007-04-12
Easy read...very inspiring!! I read the book in less than 2 hours and now I feel like I know what I need to do to start selling. Great resources at the end, too!

Publish Your Patterns.......2007-04-07
This book was much more then I expected. It walks you thru step by step from conception to completion and all the variations. Great book.
I wish I had this 25 years ago.......2007-04-06
I had been designing for needlework, craft and quilting magazines on and off for over 25 years when I decided the time was right to start my own pattern business and take my hobby seriously. One of the first things I did (on the recommendation of several professional designers) was to purchase this book. I can't say enough good things about it. Through the years I've read literally dozens of book on selling your arts and crafts, home businesses, and the like, but this is the ONLY book I've ever seen that gave designing one's own patterns more than just a couple of vague sentences, and specifically addressed the questions I had.
Not for Garment Designers.......2007-03-31
This book should properly be titled "Publish Your Craft Patterns". There is no information on garment drafting, grading, sizing, and nothing on getting the actual patterns printed. It's a decent book, as far as it goes, but it doesn't go nearly far enough.
A gold mine for any designer.......2006-03-19
OK, I'm not a quilter. And I have no plans on self-publishing paper patterns.
Still, I have a learnt a LOT of useful things in this book! My copy has paper clips on many pages, to mark the chapters I want to refer to in my work.
A very interesting book for any textile designer!
Publish Your Patterns.......2004-07-14
I am a new designer and have been struggling with the seemingly mountainous task of getting launched in the designing business. I have read countless books, most of which just bring more questions to mind! Enter THIS book, which is without a doubt, the single best resource on the market. In fact, pertaining specifically to pattern design, there is no other resource on the market that you need waste your money on!!!

Creative Cash.......2006-11-24
The words Creative Cash caught my attention since I'm a creative person. Excellent book. Alot of great information. I accidentally came across this book while searching for something else and had to have it. It came in a nice timely manner and in excellent condition. This is my kind of book.
the title sells it all.......2005-05-06
i think this book is very informative. Barbara knows how to market, and can give you tips on how to do it yourself

A wealth of information!.......2003-07-09
Creative Cash by Barbara Brabec is THE book to have if you are considering turning your crafting hobby into a business and/or profession.
The book is written for a wide and general audience, with basics on the craft business industry, sales/marketing/promotion, legal info, even computer systems/information! The chapters are written in such a way that if you don't need to read one (let's say that a particular chapter might not pertain to your situation) you can skip it and move on without missing a beat! Brabec writes in an easily comprehensible form, in digestable segments, and gives lots of clear cut examples and success stories.
This book works as a great starting point and reference tool. Highly recommended for adults of all ages, for both genders and long-time or newbie crafters/artisans!
Marketing your crafts - even hostess party plans!.......2000-02-13
Hi - My name is Opal Leasure, The Apron Strings Country Home Party Lady. Barbara's book, Creative Cash is chock full of helpful hints and downhome advice on getting your crafts business going and growing. As one of the small business entrepreneurs mentioned in the book, I feel the author does an excellent job of showing others "how-to" sell, market and otherwise, expand, their home based business endeavors. Creative Cash outlines hundreds of ways to market crafts including party plan (hostess) selling, home shows and boutiques. It also reflects on how one thing can lead to another, in life, and your own small business. Many listed, myself included, went on to self publish their own how-to books. I was very happy to note in the book, that Barbara included a resource section listing the professional crafters mentioned in the book. This is a good way for readers to benefit from the talents, ideas and creativity of many people. I urge others to order Creative Cash - it helps readers realize how gifted they really are and gives them incentives to get started with their own home based business plans. With Barbara's easy to read text, the book is a plus for every crafter's reference library.
Crafters take Note....This one is a must read........1999-03-08
Barbara Brabec does it again in her usual easy to absorb style. A Crafter's diagram for success. In this very readable book you will find years of experience in various facets of crafting. Not only will you find the real-life experiences of others in the business, you'll learn what mistakes to avoid as well. Mrs. Brabec covers it all. Included is a section on "Crafters and Computer Technology" which can give some insight into how other crafters are incorporating computer technology into their businesses. This one is truly a gold mine of information.

A great step-by-step guide!.......2003-09-03
This book is an amazing tool in turning your hobby into a profitable business. The author covers everything from 'the idea' to actual business laws, regulations, finances and workings.
As someone who has no business background or experience selling wholesale/retail, I found this book exeptional in its detail and content!
Highly recommended!

Gets to the point.......2003-02-25
This book is great for the crafter with little to no business experience. Not only does it tell you how to get your product out there, but it tells you how to run your craft business. This book includes sample forms for the upstart entrepreneur and delves somewhat into internet presence. An excellent resource for any crafter intersted in selling.

Now for the bad news.......2005-12-20
I recently inherited my father in law's stamp collection. My wife wants to sell it, to raise some much-needed money. I bought a current Scott catalogue and determined that one of the U.S. plate block albums is "worth" $350. My wife was told by a stamp dealer that he will only pay about 10% of catalogue value. That would make the album worth $35.
I read Top Dollar Paid. It says that only certain stamps are good investments. Those are the stamps that were already rare and highly priced collectibles when they were first purchased.
In other words, if you go into a stamp dealer and buy a 3 cent stamp for $500 because it is rare, that is exactly the kind of stamp that is a great investment. It is the type of stamp you can leave to your children or grandchildren, and its value will rise as the years and decades go by.
But if, when your father or grandfather was a child in the 1930s or 1940s, or (God forbid) in the 1950s or 60s, he went into the post office and bought mint stamps, plate blocks, or sheets, and had a beautiful and complete collection, all of those old and pretty stamps are worthless. If all you want is the cash for them, use them for postage. They aren't worth a damn thing. If you bought a hot dog in 1963 you wouldn't expect to sell it for $50 today would you?
There are interesting anecdotes in this book. There's the Hungarian boy who hoped to sell Hungarian stamps in the U.S. at a profit. (No way!) There's the author's meeting with Gerald Ford and his stamp collection. There are stories of stamp collection owners who try all the tricks that you yourself would have thought to try, and just where those tricks got them.
I'm glad I read the book. Now I think I'll just add some of my father in law's stamps to my own collection. After reading this book, I would guess that the collection I inherited might sell for $100. Big deal.
The moral of the story is .... your stamps aren't worth a thing. This is the worst investment there is. Put your money under your pillow and you'll be better off.
Before reading this book, I figured that stamp dealers will generally low-ball you and buy your valuable collection for peanuts unless you know the value of it yourself. After reading this book I understand that stamp dealers have incentive to tell you what your collection is really worth to them, and make a fair offer, but it's going to be a small fraction of what you expect, because stamps are a God-awful investment.
Great Book on an uneasy subject for collectors.......2005-09-19
This book does two things well:
1) How Stamp dealers go about determing how much a collection is worth.
2) Keeps you entertained by showing the human qualities of both the dealers and the sellers. The latter are usually the heirs of the collector. They are almost always non-collectors and have some very interesting misconceptions.
It is funny and sad to see the reviews complaining they wanted the book to tell them how much their collection is worth. Mr. Dalz repeatedly tells you exactly how much a collection is worth. It's worth what the dealer can pay for it. You need an appraisal by someone who knows both stamps and the market.
This book can save you money.......2001-06-01
I'm not planning to sell my stamps - but this book has saved me money by giving me some insight into what kind of stamps will never be worth the time or money spent on them! I also love Datz's vignettes of life in the stamp trade!
More about stamps.......2000-08-05
Funny anecdotes, but where is the beef? Undoubtedly this writer is an authority on stamps, but very little of that knowledge emerges in the book. The title therefore is misleading.
stamps.......2000-05-27
I would like you to put a description of what these books really tell. I am looking for a book that tells the value of the stamps I have.
Customer Reviews:
For someone starting out its.............2006-10-05
A very good resource. I myself have just started writing and bought this book to help get a better understanding of the screenwriting world. Yea it dose not have material for an advanced screenwriter but it dose get the novice a better understanding of it.
Falls short of expectations.......2005-05-25
The tone of this book is condescending to say the least, and compared to other screenwriting books does not equip the reader with the confidence to write a screenplay. The "e-alerts", "e-facts" and "essentials" sidebars are simply present to fill out the book and do not complement the text at all. This, and other similar books, could do well to invest more time in the sample scripts included.
