Great Instructions!.......2007-03-07
The author does a great job of explaining over 30 decorative techniques in a step-by-step format. I definitely recommend this book for beginners in applique, embroidery, embellishment, crazy quilting, etc. What I especially like is that this book is about technique and not about specific projects. At first I considered returning this book because I am already familiar with most of the techniques featured, however, I found the beautiful pictures of the finished quilts to be very inspiring. Overall, I am happy with this book and highly recommend it to those who are new to these decorative techniques.
This little compendium kicks crazy quilting up a notch!.......2007-02-13
Any book that has "quilt" and "embellishment" in it, now THAT'S a book I would take a second look at. And buy!! I love the idea of crazy quilting with its fancy stitchery, but I also like the concepts of layering and 3D. This book definitely kicks crazy quilting up a notch, and really gets my imagination zinging.
There are 33 "chapters" here. I use the quotes because some are only a page or two long. Topics include the expected (fabric crayons, embroidery, photo images) and the unexpected (mirrors, charms, found objects, tassels). My favorite unexpected topic is "trapping", where embellishments are arranged under a mesh.
Because each chapter is brief, you get a quick overview of a lot of different methods, yet you have enough detail to completely make a project without getting overwhelmed. The introductory chapter on tools/methods is similarly brief, and gives just enough info on tools, fabrics, stabilizers, and threads.
The only somewhat negative thing I can mention is that the overall dimensions of the book are small at just under 9 inches square. There is a ton of info and detail packed into these 128 pages, and larger pictures would have been greatly beneficial. This publication could have been a real knock-out at a larger size, but as it is, it is a valuable compendium without being encyclopedic.
If you love fabric as much as you do working with found objects, I think you will be pleased to own this book.

Book Description
Digital TV Over Broadband: Harvesting Bandwith offers a clear overview of how technological developments are revolutionizing television. It details the recent shift in focus from HDTV to a more broadly defined DTV and to the increasing importance of webcasting for interactive television. Digital Television examines the recent industry toward a combination of digital services, including the use of the new bandwidth for additional channels of programming, as well as some high definition television. The book discusses the increasingly rapid convergence of telecommunications, television and computers and the important role of the web in the future of interactive programming. This new edition not only covers the new technology, but also demonstrates practical uses of the technology in business models.
A thorough but easy-to-read explanation of the new digital and HDTV technology
Discusses the convergence of TV with computers and telecommunications
Covers the business models and scenarios of DTV adoption, webcasting, and the rollout of interactive services
Book Description
This is the most comprehensive and most practical book on this subject. It examines the total process of K-12 curriculum development, including planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum with a strong emphasis on the district and classroom levels of planning. Each issue is translated into specific curriculum examples that are found at the conclusion of each chapter. And, because gifted children are more likely to be integrated into general education programs today, the book consistently focuses on gifted education in relationship to general education. Provides cutting-edge ideas for teaching language arts, sciences, social studies, and mathematics, plus a range of strategies in less traditional areas such as thinking skills and the arts and humanities. New to this edition is a chapter on learning and cognition, an expanded chapter on teaching strategies, content chapters that provide up-to-date issues related to general curriculum reform, and a new leadership chapter. Curriculum coordinators, teachers, and administrators in gifted education classrooms and schools. A Longwood Professional Book.

Book Description
This book examines how military space activities might best contribute to US national security in the new millennium by analyzing key current and future issues such as missile defense and how to organize for military space. It is composed of essays written by eminent participants in the realms of space, politics, academia, and national security. The book focuses on the issues raised in US Space Command's 1998 report, Long Range Plan: Implementing USSPACECOM Vision for 2020, and is divided into four parts: current military space issues, space and military defense, organizing for military space missions and future military space missions.
Customer Reviews:
Not Bad for a Military Space Book..........2006-03-26
When first spotting this book, "Spacepower for a New Millennium" on my grad school book list, I rolled my eyes and wondered if I could find a cheap, used copy somewhere. After being force to purchase a 'new' copy, I was pleasantly surprised at the topics covered in this book. The text covers a wide range of space related areas: military space law, politics and force application for the present and future. It provided a good view into Military leaders' thoughts on how space is viewed and how it *should* be viewed.
One great part of this text is the coverage of Space Doctrine. Not many print publications cover the different aspects of "Sanctuary/Survivability/Control/High Ground" theories of space. While this book uses dated terms (USSPACECOM is dead, and THAAD now stands for "Terminal High Area Air Defense" not "Theater"), the concepts are still valid even if they're not being *used* properly by the U.S. Military.
If you can find the book at a good price, buy it. It's paperback, and will probably be completely dated in two years, but right now, it hits the high points of the "High Ground." CSP's won't be disappointed.

Customer Reviews:
Useful and important for adding a tassel touch.......2001-01-24
Tassels provides step-by-step instructions for creating sixteen decorative tassels, covering everything from choosing threads to finishing touches. Any involved in crafts or arts projects will find this very specific guide useful and important for adding a tassel touch to a design or piece: the black and white step-by-step illustrations are very clear and the color photos excellent.
Another Winner from Susan Dickens!.......2000-07-28
Susan comes up with another winner - both beginning tassel makers and experienced designers will appreciate this book. This book is a sophisticated sequel to her earlier The Art of Tassel Making. Basics of tassel anatomy and construction techniques will ease beginners into this wonderful textile art. Among the most useful tips for experienced tassel makers are instructions on how to replicate vintage jasmine petal components, decorative strips and flower centers by embroidering over a sheet aluminum base. Also detailed are ribbon flowers, chevron wrapped and peyote stitched tassel heads, and beaded overskirts. The impeccably constructed tassels are simply but beautifully photographed, and Jane's illustrations are easy to follow. Seven tassels pictured are fairly basic in style and construction, with the remaining nine showing various styles of additional embellishment. This book is another "must have" for anyone smitten with the creative art of tassel making! On the negative side, be forewarned that the much-awaited Suppliers List does not contain any US suppliers; this was a major disappointment. Other than that omission, Susan's new book was another delightful read from beginning to end.
Book Description
Digital rights management (DRM) is a type of server software developed to enable secure distribution - and perhaps more importantly, to disable illegal distribution - of paid content over the Web. DRM technologies are being developed as a means of protection against the online piracy of commercially marketed material, which has proliferated through the widespread use of Napster and other peer-to-peer file exchange programs.
With the flourish of these file exchange programs, content owners, creators and producers need to have a plan to distribute their content digitally and protect it at the same timea seemingly impossible task. There are numerous books dealing with copyright, eBusiness, the Internet, privacy, security, content management, and related technical subjects. Additionally, there are several research papers, and almost daily newspaper and magazine articles dealing with digital piracy. However, there are only a few books and documents that bring these together as a basis for profitable exchange of digital content. Digital Rights Management can help content providers make money by unifying the confusing array of concepts that swirl around current presentations of DRM in newspapers and business publications.
* Learn from an award winning author and Emmy nominee
* Perfect for the non-technical decision maker, content owner or DRM implementation manager
* Details all the options from legal to technical
Customer Reviews:
Proofread?.......2007-04-28
The content in the book is current, useful and well researched.
However, in 40 years of reading, I have never seen a book so poorly proofread. There are spelling errors, bad grammar, incomplete sentences and such throughout the book... I will be writing the author to see if the next time she wishes to write a book, she'd like for me to proofread it free of charge... I feel badly for her. Somebody dropped the ball big time in an otherwise fine and useful work.
good overview of DRM ideas.......2006-10-17
Van Tassel gives an overview of current DRM methods. At a level understandable by a non-engineer or programmer. She describes why DRM is so important to many media companies. Or, in fact, to any company that has assets in digital form. If you've never dealt with DRM, her book is a useful introduction.
Some more technical readers might want to check out an alternate book - "Multimedia Security Technologies for DRM" by Zeng et al. That book goes far deeper into the mechanics of the various DRM methods.
Customer Reviews:
The absolute best source for info!.......1999-01-29
After reviewing all of the books available on tassel making, this was the ONLY one I found with easy, illustrated instructions. There is some history, background, etc.--but reading from beginning to end will have you ready to make the most decorative of tassels. It is a beautiful book--almost coffe-table quality. The split pages which allow the reader to pick and choose styles from many tassels to make an original design are effective and clever. Great list of sources for materials, too---it's all there!
Excellent sourcebook for tassel making.......1999-01-10
The best source for instructions and samples of glamorous tassels. Complete and easy-to-understand instructions for creating and designing all sections of tassels, from cord to skirt. Thanks to the authors for providing this book for tassel lovers.
