Book Description
Perhaps nowhere is the American obsession with beauty and glorification of youth more prevalent than in gay male culture. Aging, however, is an inescapable fact of life. Negativity and prejudices about this inevitable process can often result in a midlife misspent in self-loathing and despair.
Noted gay psychotherapist Dr. Harold Kooden draws on new research and his vast professional experience to separate facts from fears, as he examines aging and its impact on key areas of gay life: body image and sexuality; physical and spiritual health; work and play; friendships and relationships.
For the first openly gay generation in the U.S. entering a new life stage, this remarkable book offers help, strength, support, and direction-revealing how the skills mastered in a hard-won struggle for survival, recognition, and respect can play an important part in every gay man's empowerment and acceptance of his self in midlife.

Jerry Baker is known as America's master gardener--millions of would-be gardeners have warmed to his folksy PBS appearances and made bestsellers out of The Impatient Gardener and The Impatient Gardener's Lawn Book. Like Baker's other books, Flower Power is inexpensive and accordingly short on pretty pictures, but long on good advice, simply presented. For example:
In spring, generously apply wood ashes from your fireplace all around your perennials, several inches deep. This will help to enrich the soil. You can also use dried dog food for the same purpose. It contains many of the same nutrients found in organic fertilizers, such as blood meal and bone meal.
Flower Power gives no-nonsense directions for growing annuals, perennials, bulb plants, roses, and flowering shrubs and trees, with Baker's enthusiasm bursting through on every page.
Customer Reviews:
This book covers almost everything!.......1999-09-30
Although there isn't an index entry for Jerry's various tonics and sprays, they're almost all there. As a Master Gardener, I appreciate his informal style, the ready availability of the products he suggests using, and that he doesn't condescend in his choice of plants - this is more than a beginner's book. I have seen gardens enhanced by his methods, and they work!
Book Description
"All Journeys Are Sacred" Journey with Louise StrongBear into shamanic realms of healing. Meet her teachers as she wanders through middle earth, the lower world, and the upper world, following the path of her heart. Begin in the East, and circle the Medicine Wheel to the North, finding yourself along the way. This is a heroine's journey, correlating with the journey of the fool in the major arcana of the tarot. It is also a story of finding lost soul parts, and finding your way back to your home in the stars. It is about magic, miracles, power animals, angels, witchcraft, shamanism, and shapeshifting. This is Louise's story, the one she knows by heart. And it is your story, too-the one that you forgot. "Remember You Are Magic"

I would recommend this book and any in the future as well as her readings and conversations. This book will open your eyes and change your life for the better. Jump in the adventure and enjoy the senses. Thank you Louise for everything, you are a true inspiration to me and I love you for it.

Beautiful.......2007-04-01
I found this book to be a very moving experience. I enjoyed every page of the journey. I've told all my friends about it. Thank you Ms. Strongbear for sharing with us all.
Enchanting & Engaging.......2007-03-16
I found myself traveling along in the enchanted world. Knowing how close you can be to the spirit world in your dreams is a wonderment. I know there are answers in your dreams if you just look and pay attention. Thank you Louise for guiding me through. This is a book everyone should read. Buy two and give one to a friend.
Spellbound.......2007-03-13
Unlike most reviewers, I COULD put Journey by Night down - as when you
are spellbound by a beautiful dream - and you don't want it to end....
My journey through this book took me to a completely new place. I read
and reread lines, passages, poems and chapters. As with anything practiced, it got easier...
to capture a glimpse of what can be possible
on ones own personal journey.
I evolved from an onlooker in that solitary night, to a seeker.
This book and its wisdom will be my bedside companion.
Let us hope there will be many more to come.
I would give this 10 stars if I could!!!!.......2007-03-06
You would have thought Ms. StrongBear wrote books for years. Journey by Night was very inspirational. This is one to remember...come and be a Wayfarer, as Wolf states: "Wayfarer is one who travels by foot, one step at a time. This is a way of learning. Human steps." If you feel lost and alone in the world, travel with StrongBear and meet her animated characters. Once you meet "Jimmy the Leprechaun" and feel his comedic charm, (as he tickles you and himself) but his passionate soul will let you know how similar we are with other living creatures. If you are not satisfied with his cleverness, stroll down the page and take a whimsical retreat into Pegasus world. His world is not filled with long-term suffering and illness; the aura is pleasant--letting you know that the grass is greener on the other side. After reading this book it will answer your question and have you asking questions...you would want to learn more about magic!
I would like to thank you Louise StrongBear for opening up my thinking to a whole new world. I am inspired and I believe you are a healer with the ability to capture your reader. Capturing your reader to make them believe they were there with you while in fear, afraid; but yet, having the courage to find out who you are. Hesitant but eager to connect to helpful strangers; with the question--"Haven't we met before?" Questioning should you give up, but kept your feet planted on the ground as you trotted to your destiny.
Thank you once more for bringing your iridescence as you journey by night. The stars and moon are shining bright for you. Thanks for creating an uplifting story.

A beautiful book about an undervalued area of collecting........2007-08-01
The Art of the Garden... introduces the beginning enthusiast to the wonderful world of antique flower prints and is an essential addition to the library of the established collector of botanical art.
The gorgeously illustrated book documents the magnificent flower prints produced by notable artists of the 17th through the turn of the 20th centuries. These celebrated artists include Basil Besler, Maria Sybilla Merian, Mark Catesby, Georg Ehert, George Brookshaw, Robert John Thornton, Pierre Joseph Redoutè, and many others.
Illustrated with over 300 full-color images of original and valuable botanical prints, this book fills a void in the literature, as few good botanical references remain in print.
The text recounts the fascinating lives and passions of the artists and their patrons, the technical advances in printmaking, and the discoveries and cultural influences that shaped the depiction of flowers, plants, and trees. Also discussed are many variables affecting the values of original antique botanical prints including condition, rarity, historical significance, and aesthetic appeal. A range of prices is included to guide you in your collecting and a section on framing, displaying, and proper storage makes this an indispensable reference. A fascinating book for collectors of botanical prints, gardeners, and those interested in the history of flowers.
Beautiful Prints.......2007-06-10
Some of the most beautiful AND important antique flower prints are reproduced in full color in this book. I was amazed at the amount of knowledge and history detailed so elegantly. The authors include even more artist information on their site. Fineantiqueprintsdotcom has striking images and examples. This book is an excellent reference.
Fabulous.......2007-01-06
This book is well written. Straight forward, informative and intersting. The reproductions of the botanical prints are stunning. The book is super reference for both the novice as well as the more experienced collector. A joy to read.

Book Description
First released in 1984, this book became an instant bestseller, and later on, a cult classic. Now updated and containing new material, it tells a brilliantly researched story of a group of idealists fascinated by the potential of LSD to improve the quality of life. Called a hippie mafia by police, The Brotherhood of Eternal Love came to symbolize the rise of LSD, the growth of the psychedelic movement, and the heady, optimistic, revolutionary days of the 1960s.

The Brotherhood of Eternal Love -- A Key History.......2007-10-11
This book is a must read for anyone who wants to gain insight into how the psychedelic movement of the 1960s and 70s developed. It suffers from a cop's-eye-view similar to that of Vicent Bugliosi's well-known "Helter Skelter," but it remains so far the only serious examination of this loosely knit group that became so influential in the movement.

Book Description
Saying it with flowers becomes a creative pleasure when arrangements are as original as they are beautiful. In
Flower Power, acclaimed author and flower expert Rebecca Cole explains how to create lush, hip, simple, and elegant arrangements to make any occasion memorable, from a dinner for two to a wedding attended by hundreds. Both exquisite and irreverent, her bouquets combine the classic with the quirky—sumptuous roses with crisp celery stalks, for example, or calla lilies with curly willow branches—and delight in the whimsical.
Rebecca’s step-by-step recipes and tips of the trade make it easy for anyone to re-create her inventive designs at home. She explains how to shop for the best blooms at a supermarket, farmers’ market, or corner deli and how to condition and prepare their stems for maximum longevity. She takes a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a florist and explores the international flower market.
Above all, Rebecca brings new life to the often predictable world of floral arrangements. Her Black Power bouquet combines black irises and black tulips with the brilliant green of euphorbia stems for a stunning effect, while a superb White Christmas bouquet consists of white amaryllis, narcissus, and ranunculus. She offers arrangements to suit a take-out Chinese dinner, a keep-up-the-good-work celebration for an office colleague, and a harvest party outdoors, as well as a Pepto-Bismol-pink get-well bouquet and an uncommon solution for using the most commonplace flowers. Filled with professional advice, helpful information, and nearly 400 gorgeous full-color photographs,
Flower Power is an inspiring and refreshing guide to the art of flower arranging, certain to add wit, flair, and beauty to any occasion.
Customer Reviews:
Not what I expected.......2006-03-25
Perhaps I did not read the description very well, but I thought I was getting a book about purple arrangements of flowers. I was surprised to see it was stationary when it arrived.
It's a great book for me.......2006-01-12
I like the beautiful pictures of the flowers, the recipe-like instructions on how to make the arrangements, and the writings from Rebecca Cole that encourages the reader to be creative, and skip the recipe if you'd like. I borrowed this book from the library to check it out, and I think I'm going to buy it to keep because it's such a beautiful, practical and inspirational flower book.
Ho-Hum.....Hardly!.......2003-07-05
ANOTHER book on flower arranging? Ho-hum I thought. But wait, the author is Rebecca Cole, the charismatic and incredibly talented floral arranger and author. A relatively tired subject is made crystal clear and amazingly new by Rebecca. The book includes basic flower care advice, excellent instructions and photography, and makes you love flowers almost as much as the author. As with her two previous books, highly recommended for the visual enjoyment as well as the writing, to say nothing of the incredible ideas.
Flower Power Rocks.......2003-02-22
This is the third book I've read by Rebecca Cole and they just keep getting better. Rebecca's new book is filled with cool concepts and writing. She talks about creativity, encourages it, and uses refreshing--sometimes even irreverent--humor throughout the book. Flowers are not too precious for this designer and this reader appreciates all of the tongue in cheek. The flower arrangement results are sometimes whimsical and always stunning. Funny, smart, and beautifully photographed and designed, Rebecca's book is my current favorite gift item.
Wonderfully creative!.......2002-12-31
I don't know how she does it, but Rebecca Cole delights, amazes and inspires me again! Her third book contains arrangements from the whimsical to sassy and she breaks them down step-by-step, like a big floral arrangement cookbook. I have attempted the Checkerboard Flower Box (about half the size of the one in the book) and it lasted nearly two weeks, thanks to the wonderful conditioning tips. My other favorite section is the Welcoming Windows, about making the all important first impression. Throughout the book, Rebecca Cole shares personal stories from her childhood.
Helen Norman's photographs are breathtaking - sharp and colorful - and there are a LOT of them. This great book helps a lot during long, grey winter days until my own garden begins to bloom again.

Flower Staying Power.......2005-03-29
I loved this book!! I really like cut flowers, but get discouraged when they die after a day or two. I've used some of the techniques cited in the book and my flowers last a lot longer. I've even tried drying one of my arrangements and it looks great. The table "101 of the Best Cut Flowers" is amazing and very useful. It tells you what the vase life for each flower is and how to prepare it. It's just awesome!
