Only in Japan.......2004-06-06

I bought this book hoping to increase my knowledge of turf grass disease identification. The book is very in depth and informative but most of the pictures are from golf courses in Japan. Since most of the disease I see is on residential properties, they dont look anything like the pictures in the book. Most of those were taken on putting greens on Japanese bent grass. Its a good book, but not if your working with tall fescue.

At long last, a fine book on the most complex species we manage on golf courses. Vargas and Turgeon do a great job of defining Poa annua and then exploring management and control. This book ranks right up there with Dernoden's book on creeping bentgrass. A must-have for anyone who manages Poa annua greens and/or attempts to control it on any fine turf.

The book, in handbook format, covers warm and cool season grass diseases, most of which have pictures. About the first ten pages are dedicated to sharing causes and diagnostic procedures. Another short section covers developing disease control strategies.

The book is a good material for learning about specific warm and cool season grass diseases, but it is more conducive to reference due to its handbook format. A limited ten page section covers causes and diagnostic procedures for diseases. A section on developing integrated disease control strategies is also included.
