Customer Reviews:
A WONDERFUL, "must-have" book for young girls!.......2007-07-23
Rarely do I ever just go on and on about a book as I read tons and our family/kids love to read as well, but this is the most precious book for young girls and their relationship to God you will EVER find. It is a WONDERFUL, WONDERFULLY touching book that is full of truth and may have you in tears as the love of God for your daughter just pours out of each page.
Each page is set up with God's letter from Him to her on the left side along with a verse, and her prayer in response on the right. There are quite a few pages and it is bound well and beautifully printed.
Perfect for reading at night to your child rather than just giving to them to read on their own, it's one-page 'chapters' are perfect for bedtime, or before prayers, or as a mother or dad devotional time with your child. My daughter actually asked me to read it with her at bedtime - Me reading the God portions and her the prayers in response.
You might worry that this is just another "Prncess-marketing gimmick book" to make money ala Disney, but that couldn't be farther from the truth! This is the meat of God's word and His desire to know your little girl...It will cause her to read the Bible and want to know God better. I too, worried a bit that it would follow that same, self-centered, "You are my princess" theme that we are always fighting against, but soon realised that this book offers many of it's own correctives to this kind of thinking. Good of the author to realise this and address it early on!
We are so looking forward to the boys version, "God's Mighty Warrior" that should be coming out soon by the same author. If you have boys it will probably be as good as this one! Buy it, read it, give tons of them away. It is easily the best $$ I have spent on a book in a long time.
His Mighty Warrior: A Treasure Map from Your King
Thank you Sheri for a wonderful book!!!
A Treasure!.......2007-05-09
An invaluable tool to teach a girl to love the Word of God. Each section is a letter from God (the King) to his daughter (the princess). Each is based on a scripture that teaches about Godly character and ends with a prayer. I've found it a wonderful way to teach my daughter to understand God's Word and treasure it as well. A must-read for every true princess!
EXCELLENT!!!!.......2007-03-08
What a great book! Tell your little girl that she is God's little princess. NOT A PRETEND PRINCESS! We are all God's princesses! My twin girls love it, they are 6 years old. It's almost like a bible study for little girls. A++++
His Little Princess.......2007-01-21
I would highly recommend this book for young girls. Very encouraging and uplifting.

A Wonderful Book.......2006-12-12
We love this book! The pictures are stunning, the story is amazing. We've read it over and over to our kids. It is a must for a family or for any person. A special book to have.
Where Angels fear to tread..........2003-09-08
Tim Jonke is also the illustrator of "A Tale of Three Trees."
Please read my comments concerning that book,
titled, "Story Good. Illustrations Bad."
I feel that the subject matter here is too sacred to write
about. Too sacred to even dare try.
I bought this book, read it, and wish I hadn't.
NEVER GIVE A CHILDREN'S BOOK AS A GIFT TO
SOMEONE BEFORE READING IT CAREFULLY
YOURSELF.
While that may sound like common sense, sometimes
people don't stop to think.
A Beautiful Book about Self-Sacrifice.......2003-08-22
The 'Little Rose of Sharon' is a lovely, poignant story about a rose who grew in a field of other flowers and trees. Nearby the rose was a fig tree where a family of doves lived. It was a time of when God's creation was of pure innocence and glory. The rose admired her beauty and hope the Creator loved her lovely red petals and sweet fragrance. The Creator smiled on the little flower. One day a terrible storm came. The little rose swayed in the wind, but she survived. But the little dove egg that was in the fig tree fell to the ground by the rose. Night came and it was cold. The rose thinking that if the baby dove was unprotected it would die. So the lovely rose shed it's beautiful red petals over the baby dove egg to keep it warm from the cold night. The parents of the baby dove saw the movement underneath the red petals and out came their newborn. The little rose was happy she did a wonderful thing. The Creator saw what the Little Rose of Sharon done and told her, "My Son will one day do the same for all mankind. He will give of Himself and sacrifice His love just as you have done." A wonderful story about the great lesson of love and self-sacrifice that surely will be appreciated by all ages alike. The illustrations are beautifully painted in a pastel-type renderings. Exquisite!

Little House.......2006-01-15
These books bring back my childhood. It's always good to be able to do that from time to time.
Rose becomes a Socialist.......2005-11-01
I found the book interesting but my 8 and 6 year old daughters - huge fans of the Laura years and most of the Rose years -- found it to be boring. Parents should be prepared to discuss some of the historical aspects of this books, such as, women's suffrage, discrimination, turn of the century working conditions, and socialism which are all reoccurring topics in the book. I was a little surprised that the case for socialism was presented without any counter arguments, especially in light of the adult Rose being so opposed to socialism. (I highly recommend Rose's The Discovery of Freedom" if you are interested in learning about her libertarian views.) I can't imagine Roger Lea MacBride (who died while this book was in rough draft) would not have offered up a character to counter the pro-socialist message. If your daughter reads this book, I suggest you also make available Rose's 1936 Saturday Evening Post article "Give Me Liberty" where she makes the case for liberty and individualism. It is an autobiographical account of how she almost became a card-carrying member of the Communist Party, but because of her experiences as an international reporter became convinced that socialism leads down the road to serfdom (See F. A. Hayek's Road to Serfdom.).
Got a Lot from this Book.......2004-03-29
This is definitely one of my fave books(i'm 14). I think I first read this book when I was 9 or 10, but I wasn't mature enough to really get all of it yet. Rose is definitly growing up, separating from her mother, making good and bad friends, falling in love, taking big risks and thinking about her future. Frankly she is dying to ditch her boring, ordinary life in her small Ozarks town, but she also has to decide what she is going to do about Paul, her first love, who is gone most of the time. Basically it is a coming-of-age story set in small-town turn-of-the-century America. I liked it especially for the historical value, and would recommend it to anyone who liked the Laura books, or likes historical fiction for young adults. ...
Rather Boring.......2003-10-03
This book was rather boring and so is the next one. I think it is because roger lea macbride didn't totally write this himself. He passed away before he finished these two books.
My favorite Rose book.......2003-07-27
ON THE BANKS OF THE BAYOU is a delight. It is the best of all the Rose books. Rose goes to a Louisiana academy, taking up her aunt's offer. She stays with her aunt, and slowly realizies that she is for womens' rights. She crusades with her aunt to help boost voting for women, and along the way she learns Latin and learns about Lousiana with a new Cajun friend, Odette, and her huge family. It is fun and inspirational, but Rose also learns the horrible truth of slavery and segregation in full. When she eats at an ice-cream parlor under cooling fans, she watches a black girl pay at a special window and sit on a dingy chair in the blazing sun. Rose learns more than Latin, Algebra, and geography. She learns what it is to live in the world.

Customer Reviews:
Should Have Been Longer.......2006-10-05
It seems that happiness eluded Rose.
Considering the other "Rose" books, this final book was far too short. Personally I would have liked it better if the author had written on about Rose leaving to go with Gillette Lane in the real estate venture. I'm one of those people who doesn't like to be left in the dark.
I read "From West to Home" a book composed of letters Laura wrote to Almanzo from San Francisco. From this book, we learn Laura visited Rose and Rose's husband Gil Lane in 1915. So we know Rose and Gil got married.
But actually it would have been better if Bachelor Girl had been longer or even another "Rose" book had been written.
I thought Paul was awful to Rose. He strung her along for so long and then left her to cope with the "damage" to her reputation and her character after she and Paul stayed out all night. It wasn't their fault the boat was late or slow, but people who knew her in town assumed she was trash after that and basically let her know what they thought.
Later in San Francisco, Paul visited Rose and stung her with a remark about her wearing makeup and went wild over Rose's remark about an egagement ring.
This book is entertaining, but I couldn't help wishing for a longer read.
Reads like a Harlequin Romance.......2005-11-30
The writing style is completely different than the other books. At times it reads like what I would imagine a Harlequin Romance would be like. The book is just dreadful and completely inappropriate for the target market, i.e., girls from 6 - 12. As other reviewers have stated (thorvald's and RoseFan's take below are spot on), Rose is no longer the self confident heroine but a confused follower. She falls in with the wrong crowd. I guess a parent who is reading along with their daughter could use this as a learning lesson, but the subject is too adult for the bedtime story age child. I suggest you avoid this book.
Bachelor Girl.......2005-03-17
As true Laura and/or Rose fans know, "Bachelor Girl" is simply a redress of Roger MacBride's 1977 "biography" of Rose Wilder Lane, which in turn was a rip-off of Roses's 1919 'semi' autobiographical novel, "Diverging Roads".
I feel this was a poor finish to the "Rose Years" series. Given that the MacBride family inherited the hugely successful and profitable "Little House" franchise from Rose, it's a shame that they've passed off this fictional account not once, but TWICE, as a true depiction of Rose's life as a young woman.
While the essentials and facts are mostly true, anyone who has read or researched Rose's life knows that Rose and Paul Cooley were never "engaged". And Gilette Lane was not the "dashing older man" portrayed in the books. In fact, he was one year younger than Rose! Evidence supports that they met while Rose was working in Kansas City and her subsequent move to San Francisco was likely to follow him there, marrying him the next year, BEFORE they sold real estate together.
My disgust with this book really lies in the fact that the owners of the Little House franchise (the MacBride heirs) should have shown more respect for both Rose and the fans of the series and ended the Rose years with a more accurate and honest portrayal of their benefactress.
The spunky characterization of Rose from the earlier books is gone here, and we're left feeling concerned about her choices and future. Nice example to set for girls of today who've read this series from the beginning!
Excellent portrayal of a young woman...seeing the real world.......2005-03-16
I think " bachelor girl" is excellent. It manages to portray an young adult's frustrations and dilemas almost accurately.
The way Rose felt frustrated about not doing anything useful, when she lived with her parents and then her struggle to work and support herself...May be this book is not appealing to children as it deals mostly with an young adult's mind...
and even the temporary loss of confidence in Rose is perfectly natural as any young and intellectual adult will go through that phase atleast once. I'm very impressed with this book.
Not a very good ending to the series.......2003-10-03
I've read most of the rose years. The books before this one are interesting. In this last book, I was very displeased. Rose leaves home and boards in a small isolated room which leaves her with no friends. Although she makes friends towards the end, she ends up doing things she shouldn't and loses her engagment with her childhood sweetheart because of her new friends. This book was a disappointment to me after enjoying the books before this. :(

A little shining gem !.......2002-09-20
I loved this book. I got a lot out of it. I wish I had read a book like this one when I was growing up : maybe I would've had a happier life. Every line is a word of wisdom and should be read and reread : a wonderful reminder about the important things in life. I've read it many many times. Shared it with so many many friends. I highly recommend this book to everyone - young and old. A great little gift.
Timeless, Simple, Powerful.......2002-06-04
As a first-time author of a non-fiction book
myself, I was starting to doubt my own
ideas and plans as a writer. Then this simple,
bright little book popped out at me.
This is not a "how-to" kind of book. This is
more of a "why-have-you-waited-so-long?" book.
It's a little friend who always loves and
believes in you! And who the heck doesn't
need that?
And hey... that metallic-winged guy on the
cover is irrestible! (I guess you could tell
that I really loved this book.)
Skeptical till I ... felt in love with it !.......2002-02-28
A very dear friend of mine gave it to me, I didn't know why. Now I know.......
This little book can change life, for a while, or forever : it changed the way I will look at my life for the rest of it.
Simply charming, healing, uplifting, inspirational, unforgettable.....

Young Pioneers.......2006-11-06
Well written . Being a fan of Little House Books, I enjoyed reading something written by Laura and Almonzos daughter.
good young reading book.......2006-07-10
This book falls right in line with the Laura Ingalls Wilder style and type of book. Any young person who enjoys reading fiction would benefit learning about our country's history and still be entertained.
The Little House Book Improved.......2004-03-10
This book is a tad more exciting then Laura's books, it gets to the point, I suppose. A reccomended read for those who enjoy adventure and historic fiction as well.
The best parts of the Little House books all rolled into one.......2003-08-05
The best parts of "Plum Creek", Little Town on the Prarie", "The Long Winter" and "Happy Golden Years" all rolled into one. Very exciting. I could not put it down. She gets right to the action, and leaves out all of the uneventful chapters on weaving, needlework and churning butter, etc., that her mother put into the Little House books. You can see that the best parts of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books were a direct result of Rose Wilder Lane's input. Her writing is vivid and exciting.
Very good.......2003-07-02
Wonderful story, but much harsher and bleaker than her mother's own writings about settling in the West. A stunning work about a struggle for independence I couldn't even imagine.
Book Description
Siblings everywhere will identify with this charmingly realistic story of Shirley Hughes’s Alfie and his trying but lovable little sister.
Annie Rose and Alfie have lots of games they like to play together, like being scary monsters or running their own store. But there are some things Annie Rose is too little to do, and even some things Alfie would rather do without her. Still, if Annie Rose is ever sad or cranky, her big brother is the only person who can make her feel better. This is Shirley Hughes at her best - warm and wonderfully observed illustrations and a touching text convey the special bond between siblings.

Wonderful little book!.......2000-06-04
I have had this little address book for about 4 years now and I love it! I have filled it up (I move alot and get to know new people all of the time) so I am going to order another one today so that I can re-do and reorganize my addresses. I have many Anne Geddes publications and this is one of my favorites!
Addresses-Fell short of Expectations.......2000-04-01
I was looking for a nice address book to give as a gift as a housewarming present and when i saw it I noticed what a waste of money it was. It cost much more than other address books. The cover is decorative but don't let it fool you.. Don't buy this book!

A Very Pretty Christmas Story That Doesn't Offend Anyone.......2007-01-24
Let me start off by saying that I am a Christian who knows that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ. That being said, this little book is about a new baby pony named Rose Blossom and her first experience with a Christmas party in Ponyville. Although it never mentions Jesus, it also doesn't mention Santa either, which makes it a nice, neutral story about a happy party taking place during Christmas. The book's cover is beautiful and glittery.
