Book Description
The Dutch had Tulip Mania in the 17th century. Victorian England had its own equivalent with "orchidelirium," an obsessive passion for orchids that has carried into thepresent day. Orchids remain among the most beautiful, hotly debated, and passionately collected of all flowers.ORCHIDELIRIUM presents Harold Feinstein's breathtaking pictures of orchids--dozens of different varieties and shades of them. In the tradition of the critically acclaimed gift book One Hundred Flowers (Bulfinch Press, 2000), this new volume offers images of staggering detail and subtlety. Nobody has been able to match Feinstein's mastery of flower photography, and nowhere is his remarkable talent as evident as it is in these pictures oforchids, nature's most delicate and variegated creations.

great mother's day gift, or mother's bday present........2007-06-08
my mom loves it. beautiful images. great gift idea.
Gorgeous coffee table book on orchids.......2007-04-21
This book has stunning photographs of all kinds of orchids. If you like the front cover, you are sure to like this book. The book is large, not only coffee-table size, but also very thick (and heavy!). With the gorgeous pictures, it would make a wonderful gift for any orchid lover. Unfortunately I haven't seen the main competition, the book "Orchids" so I can't say how they compare, but I can't imagine going wrong with this book.
My brother loved it!.......2007-04-06
I bought this book for my brother for his birthday. He was floored by its beauty.

Bring magnifying glasses.......2007-09-30
This book is too big for your pocket and way too small for a normall read. I gave it a few days but just couldn't get used to squinting. Regardless of how much good info it may contain, its just too painfull. By the way I have 20-20 vision... I was so annoyed by the miniature font that I decided to return it.
WHOLE OF INFORMATION.......2007-08-27
Though over 1200 species is a lot of orchids to be growing in the same conditions and in the same house (or greenhouse), this Masterpiece Book of the orchids culture is all that an orchid grower have ever expected.
And the most important fact is that all the orchids been shown here have the proper scientific name according to Royal Botanic Garden, Kew. Alejandro Taborda, ARGENTINA.
Excellent book.......2007-03-08
It's an excellent book and it tells a lot of all kind of orchids. It's easy to take to the orchidshop to buy new plants.
This is one of the orchidbooks that anyone who loves orchids should have.
Botanica's ORCHIDS.......2006-08-15
This is an excellent book and should be in the home of any orchid enthusiast that enjoys species. There are over 1200 species listed with color photos. This helps make identification much easier.
Since I have had my book for only a few days it is still in excellent condition but others I know who have purchased this title have had a problem with the paper cover coming loose. Also, some of their pages have seperated. Hopefully the quality of this one will be better but even if not then I would purchase it again.
Quality.......2006-07-09
While the contents are very informative and extensive the quality of the book itself is far less than expected. I had been using it for less than two weeks when the cover started detaching from the core. Now it is in such a condition that is nearly unmanagable without constant extra carefulness not normally associated with a well made book.

Book Description
"Lani opened her eyes fully, straining to see something, anything. It was as though she swam in a black sea that blacked out all light, all visual sensation. 'I can't see,' she whispered. 'I can't see!' Her shriek rose and echoed off the blackness."
A seemingly random shooting at her aunt's coffee farm has left Lani Tagama blind. Now she must learn to navigate in a world of darkness. With the help of an embittered ex-cop, Ben, and a half-trained guide dog, Fisher, Lani discovers she can regain a shadow of her former independence.
But strange and dangerous secrets lurk behind the beauty of this seaside paradise. Suspicion grows that this was not a random shooting, but an attempted murder, one with its roots in a hippie commune burned over thirty year ago. Lani realizes she is a target, and that she must find the shooter before he strikes again.

Wonderful!!.......2007-09-08
Colleen, you did it again. Every book in this Aloha Reef series just kept getting better and better. More mystery. More intrigue. More romance. Is this really the last book. I want to read more. Thanks for the series.
Great Series!!.......2007-06-11
As a person who loves the Hawaiian Islands, this series of books from Colleen Coble has been a refreshing way to transport myself from the mainland to the islands by just picking up the books and begin reading. I love the fact that the places she references in the stories are real and accurate in her descriptions. I am able to actually visualize what she is speaking of through the characters. I am sad that when I finish Midnight Sea book #4 in the Aloha Reef Series that I am at the end! I hope Colleen writes a 5th book!
First book review, but there's no more deserving story!.......2007-05-09
I enjoyed the first 3 books in this series, and this one is wonderful! The characters are people that I want to know more about, plus there is a connection to characters from the other books. Once I started reading, I had to keep going to find out what happened, so start this book when you have a good chunk of time to spend with it!
Must Read!!!.......2007-02-28
I love Colleen Coble's books and this one certainly doesn't let you down. If you love intrigue with a splash of romance, this is a must read.
Rich and Complex Romantic Suspense.......2007-02-27
In this book, Colleen Coble crafts another tight suspense plot filled with twists and turns and rich characters. She transports readers back to Hawaii, the setting for her Aloha Reef series. While this book stands completely on its own, if you read and enjoyed the Aloha Reef series, you will enjoy the reappearance of characters from that series.
Lani is faced with something I think most of us fear - she wakes up one morning unable to see anything. In the midnight sea of darkness, she must learn to cope and strive for some independence. Ben reluctantly agrees to help her learn how to use a guide dog and adjust to her new world. However, he's heard too much about her to be drawn in by her beauty.
The characters struggle with real questions about how their faith can sustain the circumstances of life. And they are brave enough to ask the questions many of us would love to scream to the heavens. As they wrestle with the mystery and their doubts, they also develop a relationship that could extend beyond friendship if they could let go of their pasts.
The book is rich with layers of characters and plots. And Coble does a fantastic job bringing all the layers together into a cohesive and compelling book. And if you're looking for a book to transport you to the beaches of Hawaii on a cold afternoon, this book is the one for you. Coble again creates a vivid setting and a story that could only be set in Hawaii.

Book Description
These so-called 'jewels of Africa' with their sparkling flowers, distinctive growth habit and floriferous nature are much prized and this account, the first to include the angraecoid orchids of both Africa and Madagascar, is long awaited. It brings together, in a single volume, descriptions of all 690 species in this intriguing group of orchids and will be the essential reference for all angraecoid orchid enthusiasts for years to come. Stewart, Herman and Campbell have all spent time in various parts of eastern and southern Africa and precise ecological information relating to habitat, altitude preferences and flowering season of individual plants will be particularly helpful to growers. The diagnostic features of each genus are illustrated and over half the species are accompanied by exquisite photographs taken in both wild habitats and in cultivation.
Customer Reviews:
Long overdue.......2007-08-15
At last, a more recent revision of this group of orchids, incorporating numerous changes that have occured since the last major work by Hillerman.
The descriptions are accurate and comprehensive, with cultural advice etc. This book is a must-have as a refernce work and general addition to any good orchid library. My only negative impression was that there were a number of species with no line drawings or photos - I always find that a book with a larger variety of pictures of the species is of greater use to the general orchid grower. Nevertheless - this is a book any orchid grower must have, especially as it covers a large selection of these wonderful African Orchids.
Angraecoid Orchids: Species from the African Region.......2007-01-11
I found this text to be most informative and easy to read and to understand. The layout was logical. For a grower relatively new to this genera the insights provided by Joyce Stewart helped me understand the limitations that my growing conditions place on successful culture of this group.
I believe that any serious grower of orchids would find this a welcome addition to thier reference library.
Review on Angraecoid Orchids.......2007-01-09
Excellent reference book for the Angraecoids. This is a huge work to list the many species, habitats, and culture.
Great color photos of these beautiful orchids.
A book for all the african orchid lovers.......2007-01-05
A very nice book with beautiful fotos. A complete review of the genus Angraecoid.
Artwork in orchid books.......2007-01-04
I love flowers with green and white colours; of course the angraecoid orchids have to be one of my favourites. It was a more than positive surprise to see the pictures of Bob Campbell: I never have seen more perfect pictures on orchids. The whole book is monographically organised, a well of information on morphology and ecology of the species, and with a lot of information on culivation of the species. Great!

I purchased numerous other "beginner" orchid books and this is by far the best one. Basic information and plenty of pictures to illustrate various situations. This has become the book I refer to first when I have a question, need advice or are interested in purchasing another orchid.

Book Description
Straight from the heart of New York Times bestselling author Jude Deveraux comes a story of love, tragedy, and mystery in a small North Carolina town brimming with secrets.
Have you ever lost someone who meant more to you than your own soul?
Ford Newcombe has. For years, he loved his wife, Pat, more than anyone -- and anything -- in the world. She came into his life when he was just an inexperienced college student with big dreams of becoming a published author. With love and humor, she guided him down the path that would eventually lead him to more success than he ever dreamed possible. Since Pat's death six years ago, Ford has lived a life of solitude, barely able to put pen to paper, and rumors are flying that it was Pat who actually created the books the world so loved. If there's one thing that Ford needs it's inspiration, and it finally comes in the guise of Jackie Maxwell -- a smart, sassy university researcher with just enough attitude to match Ford's sharp intellect. But it's her intimate knowledge of the story of a young woman's friendship with the devil -- and what the townspeople did to her -- that persuades Ford to hire Jackie as his assistant and to move to Cole Creek, North Carolina, where the story is said to have taken place. They soon learn that even though the inhabitants of Cole Creek try to deny it, they are still plagued by the consequences of the otherworldly tale of passion and death. As Ford and Jackie work to unravel the truth, they discover a connection between their lives and the past, a connection that not only helps them solve a long-ago crime but offers the promise of new love.
Loved by readers and critics alike for her "golden touch" (Publishers Weekly), Jude Deveraux has once again created a story that pulls at readers' heartstrings, titillates their imaginations, and uncovers a long-buried passion that far surpasses the boundary between life and death.

Customer Reviews:
Touching, especially for those who've lost someone near to them.......2007-07-22
This was one of Deveraux's best. The first half of the book was amazingly well written. The book alternates view points by chapter of the two characters points-of-view which is really interesting and makes the book even more fun to read. The first chapter will tug at your heart if you've ever lost someone dear to you. Ford is the most real character Deveraux's done. The relationship between Ford and Pat's dad is precious. If you are having trouble getting past the whole devil part of the story line, just jump in - you won't regret it. There is so much more to the story - I was a little dissapointed about this element too, when the rest of the story was so rich and real.
I finally read it...........2006-12-20
...and I'm glad I did. I've had it sitting around for a while now and could never convince myself to start. A mistake on my part. I enjoyed the different points of view in each chapter (Ford vs Jackie), and while some of the secondary characters could have been better developed, it would have been difficult in this format. Not your typical romance, but an interesting and worthwhile read. It's on my keeper shelf to read again.
An unforgettable, enchanting story.......2006-09-01
Wild Orchids
by Jude Deveraux
Reviewer: Pamela Ackerson (author Home of the Braves trilogy)
Be prepared to live in this story. From page one to the very last sentence, you will feel as if you are a character in the book. You will experience and observe, as an innocent bystander, the changing scenes ... as the pages flip past your fingers. Your heart will race with the fear, passion and the excitement of the characters that surround you. This is a powerful and memorable book. Ms Deveraux has written an unforgettable, enchanting story that will stay with you for a very, very long time.
Disappointed.......2006-08-31
I have thoroughly enjoyed other books written by Jude Deveraux, but Wild Orchids was truly a disappointment. The attempted use of separate chapters written from each of the main characters point of view was boring and badly done. Each chapter reiterated the other for at least a page. I did think that the novel had an interesting & unique plot, but would suggest reading another Deveraux work before this one.
terrible end.......2006-08-06
First I thought, I might give this book a try since it was half the price and although I quite liked the béginning and the author shows that she can touch your heart, the end was so very disappointing I still feel quite annoyed about how you could possibly find such a far-fetched outcome to the otherwise o.k. plot. What a shame!

Illustrated Guide on Identifying Caribbean Orchids.......2002-01-27
A beautifully organized guide, "The Orchids of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands / Las Orquideas De Puerto Rico y Las Islas Virgenes" by James D. Ackerman and Maria Del Castillo is a botanist's delight when it comes to identifying orchids commonly found in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Published by the University of Puerto Rico Press, this hardbound, bilingual book allows readers who are admirers of the islands' ecological systems or anything else related to them, to clearly identify the many forms of orchids found on the Eastern Caribbean islands.
The book, which only can be obtained via special order, is beautifully designed and features paintings of many orchids, which I found unique, because it definitely captures the essence of flora more so than a photograph. The book will make an excellent gift to anyone who is fascinated by the island's and their contents. Overall, this is a beautiful, informative book for botanists or botany lovers out there.

Book Description
Bess, George, and I are heading down to Key Largo, Florida, to enjoy some fun in the sun with my old friend, marine biologist Delia Duke. But it seems that Delia's state park is clouded over with mystery: Someone has been poaching the park's rare butterfly orchids. Their future depends on us!
George seems more interested in searching for treasure in the Catalina, an old sunken Spanish galleon, than in hunting for an orchid thief. My hope is that George, Bess, Delia, and I can save two priceless treasures in one fell swoop.

the ORCHID thief & the TREASURE theif!.......2007-02-27
THIS BOOK WAS EXCELLENT! IT WASN'T ONE OF THE BEST. STEALING BUTTERFLIES AND RARE ORCHIDS IS REALLY DUMB, BUT I IMAGINE IT CAN BE DONE. MY FAVORITE PART WAS THE TREASURE SEEKING! THAT'S WHAT MADE THE BOOK A 5 ***** BOOK! THIS BOOK IS WORTH ADDING TO YOUR MYSTERY COLLECTION OR YOUR NANCY DREW COLLECTION!
GOD BLESS!
